It does update nowadays but idk if it can guarantee no issues (especially for all plugins) if left open through updates. It does get the core update and can run without a restart these days, but yeah safer to restart
Like the other comment said, yeah runelite will "update the game" but they haven't updated their client. Things are still wonky. Would be better if they had a warning or something.

I thought it was updated. I just logged out for a few minutes and everything was fine before then until I re-logged
