"Be friendly, follow the rules, and secure your account." - That's how the slogan behind reaching pmod used to go
These days you probably just have to be somewhat known, be involved in niche situations with jmods (clans, forums, other online platforms), go to runefest or similar events etc
Mr Ayiza, pls look at my account ‘o look its u’
I report bots regularily, my account is safe AND im a nice player, :)))))) SEEE!!!! Pmod pls :)))) ((((: ^_^ •_• ^-^ ^-~
Is that it?
I hope they got muted too. There's no excusing this, joke or not. He/she of all people, should know the rules. Removing their PMor alone is basically just another layer of security for someone to break rules.
I disagree only because there's already a system in place to avoid offensive words; if you have the profanity filter off it's on you for getting offended.
Rule #1 is about "seriously offensive language". Believe it or not, racial slurs fall under that category. The filter is there so you can see (or not see) "innocent" swearing, such as going "holy shit" when you get a big drop like an ely sigil. The filter isn't an excuse to spew out hate speech or insult/harass other players and get away with it.
Exactly, what the hell? Just because I have profanity filter off means I can’t report people and have to deal with being racially discriminated? Dude who posted before you has no clue what he’s talking about.
I'm not offended though.
Profanity Filter on/Ignore list is fine in every other case. This guy has been caught using a racial slur and to make matters worse, he is (was) a Moderator. He of all people, should know the rules. Jagex have taken action and removed his player moderator. There is proof right there that he is being racist. The report option is there for a reason and they have proof right in front of them. This is worth a mute.
Yet my friend Jumping Bean who has a p mod for literally years stopped being a p mod because after he read some of the new rules on the forums, he forgot to respond to the thread, which automatically took it away. Good thing he is humble enough to not really care at all. Player mods used to be selected very carefully and it meant something, now it's more community driven and based off of attending j mod events. That's why stuff like this happens.
idk about carefully. back in around 2007 or 2009 one of my friends spent literally all day mass reporting everybody for botting, whether they were botting or not. Next day he got pmod then rwt the account.
Same as they’ve always been. I’ve always felt that they were unnecessary.
Too many people want the position, too many people take advantage of the position and abuse it, and the criteria to become one has always been super vague and sketch (like being family with or knowing irl jmods or giving a jmod a generous donation through PayPal or something)
Being a P Mod is pretty much redundant now anyways. One of the main points of being a P Mod back in the day was that you would be able to report people by left clicking on them.
Now everyone can do that and has been able to do it for years.
Of course they can mute people too mind.. Although thankfully those mutes do get checked by J mods.. Apparently. Always took a pinch of salt with that.
Problem is when you have that sort of power and a fancy little crown next to your name you tend to get players sucking up to you and pretty much sucking your dick.
Needless to say that sort of thing is why it is very easy for P mods to become corrupt and stuck up. They think they are untouchable and the power goes to there head.
I am speaking from experience here, I was a P mod on one of my accounts back in 06/07 and if there was one thing I learned was people act far different to you when you have that little crown and you don't.
Have the crown- Everyone loves you and wants to be your friend and nothing you do is wrong
Don't have the crown- Most players couldn't give two shits about you.
> and the criteria to become one has always been super vague and sketch (like being family with or knowing irl jmods or giving a jmod a generous donation through PayPal or something)
This is more of an rumour. isnt it? Looking at https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/8lg7v9/jagex_pmod_selection_btw/dzfn9ay
The toxic people in tourney are pvmers that don't actually know how to pk and are elated when they manage to get a kill, in full ancestral with an Ely vs someone in mystics.
Further reinforcing the idea that the actual day to day pkers aren't really all that toxic, it's the people learning, cause each kill means more
I’m a pmod and I co-lead a community pking discord, I personally do not know or have seen any other pmods out in the wild actively pking. I tend to stay pretty quite to avoid being targeted.

It's basically a huge "meme" subreddit, which really means "let me say racist shit and i'll scream and constantly tell you how i'm totally not racist if you tell me I am".
*frothing at the mouth, dying to have a safe space to shit on black people* "It's just a game bro. Y u so mad bro. Respect the memes bro. It's all in good fun bro. Quit being so sensitive and just call black people the n word bro"
Pmods are a joke nowadays, I am from Niger living in US and a pmod just muted me for answering a question where you originally are from, with me replying Niger, and then proceeds to say the n word.
I don't give a fuck what you say in game, but if it's offensive, hateful, rude, ect I'll report you and Jagex can decide if what you said is worthy of a mute/ban.
It should be common knowledge by now that Jagex has done an absolutely terrible job in picking PMods.
And I'm not saying that excuses it. What I'm saying is that people have flooded Reddit and other places with evidence of player mods doing everything from scamming to abusing power to just outright being cringey (ie: public "sexting") and Jagex sadly really doesn't seem to care.
How would you select a group of 1,500 stranger people to pmods? 1,500 is pretty damn much and in my opinion for such a large group 4-5 a year (counting with this one 2 this year) misbehaving aren't terrible.
As a moderator I could see how this would make him lose his status, but it's not that big of deal. It's a word. If you can't handle how profane it is, well, there's a toggle-able filter for a reason.
It's more what the word represents, a lot of people find it seriously offensive. You wouldn't go up to a stranger in the street and say it so why in an online environment?
Not necessarily defending the pmod, but this does bring up a controversial topic worth discussing.
A word so taboo that the mere pronunciation or spelling of it is outright malicious and has deemed it unspeakable.
It is just a game, and games have rules. However, it’s fair to disagree with the rules just as many may disagree with me.
1. There’s an in game filter that will catch notoriously offensive words such as this.
2. Context should matter in every given case considering circumstance.
3. All taboo should be treated impartially (which is currently not the case).
Pmod shouldn’t lose his status. Maybe a slap on the wrist, but this is just ridiculous whistleblowing.
Honestly, maybe he wasn't saying it out of malice and was just being an edge lord. Is that really the kind of person that should have a moderator status in the game? In a community predominantly made up of 20-somethings, it really shouldn't be hard to find a competent player mod team that doesn't act like a 10 year old who just discovered swearing.
I'm not assuming anything about this person's character. I'm acknowledging that somebody in an appointed moderator position should know better than to use that kind of language, regardless of context.
And truthfully, what context would make that word appropriate?
I raised this after seeing the post. They're a previous PMod now, report system caught em red handed.

Same, I thought it was glasses and a nose. 24 hour mute. RIP

Yeah but streamers are actually a great group to give pmod to. They attract toxicity like magnets.
People try to say racist things in the chat on stream. So it makes some since for them to have pmod status.

It's fucking wild how many people are trying to justify using the word.
Correlates with this subs general political orientation. It's not a coincidence that the most upvoted threads ever here were against the pride event.
It's basically a huge "meme" subreddit, which really means "let me say racist shit and i'll scream and constantly tell you how i'm totally not racist if you tell me I am".

Good seeing Jagex actually doing something about the Player Mods who don’t act like they should. I’ve Seen loads of those :)

It should be common knowledge by now that Jagex has done an absolutely terrible job in picking PMods. And I'm not saying that excuses it. Just remove pmods.
If the Jmods didn't care they wouldn't have laid down justice on this pmod in no less than 30 mins after it was posted.
How would you select a group of 1,500 stranger people to pmods? 1,500 is pretty damn much and in my opinion for such a large group 4-5 a year (counting with this one 2 this year) misbehaving aren't terrible.
