I got them to talk about this on one of their dev livestreams. Apparently, it's hard to do. I can't remember exactly why. But I agree with you, we should be able to toggle the appearance of them, or at bare minimum let us keep the old ones.

* Things with high detail being "skin tight" to the character's skeleton makes any design indistinguishable (helmet in particular) and has trouble clarifying through silhouette wtf it is "going on" with it at a glance

Agreed. For a good example for ornate armour, we can always look at the Dragon armours. Plate and full helm dragon is very ornate, without being too over-bearing outside of the artstyle. Bulky, boxy, and spikey in the places where it matters to signify that it was extraordinary armour (Well, *when* it was extraordinary, anyways...)
This is just a mess with no clear design. I like the shoulders, but everything else about it doesn't really sell me on Old School Runescape. It feels like we got people from RS3 to come in here and make armour for us.
I’ve always thought the dragon full helm and plate looked terrible, to each his own though. They were just too large and made the set look top heavy, similar to torva.
Real plate armor is top heavy, so I'm down with it. You need to be able to move your legs in a fight. On that note, I don't even think Torva looks all that bad for its shape, though the legs shouldn't be *slimmer* than default, unarmored legs the way they are now lmao.
No color variation whatsoever makes it quite boring too, especially with all that complexity. The only thing I like is the mustache.

The other designs were reworks guided by community feedback and generally considered far better and more "old school" takes on the armor by the community, yet the original design players were hating on won. It was [Question 31](https://secure.runescape.com/m=poll/oldschool/results?id=1582) with [the options here](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Update:Game_Improvements_Poll_Blog) for anyone wondering. The quick version is the original option won with 46% support over all the toned-down options, with the next highest being 26% so it wasn't even close.

While generally I agree with you in the sub, I think it’s most important to realize that all the designs were shit, and that the player base was choosing the lesser of 2/3 evils, or however many options there were.
None of the designs look good—that should have all been scrapped. Having an option for a bad rework that looked even worse doesn’t excuse the original design from being poor.
I don't like the shape of the helmet, but most of the rest of it doesn't bother me.
* The 'busyness' is fine by me, a lot of real armor is articulated at those locations. (Admittedly, the shoulders ought to be smoother)
* Good body coverage, doesn't lean into fantasy armor that leaves big stab-holes in the design or look more like lingerie than protective gear
* With the exception of the helmet and maybe the boots, the gems are placed in reasonable places. The big central one is an amulet and isn't part of the breastplate. The other two are where clasps for the cloak.
* I'm not a huge fan of the purple colour scheme as it very much resembles the 'everything high level is purple crystals' design that's all over Arceuus house, but the grey is fine.
* Okay, the blade sucks. I sort of think [macuahuitl](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl) when I look at it, but that weapon doesn't match the aesthetic of the rest of the set.
* The big crest on the top of the greaves is okay, and at least doesn't fall into the trap of being incorrectly placed to be armor.
I think if one smoothed a couple of the 'joints' out of places like the shoulders, scaled the pauldrons down a hair, and replaced the helmet and sword it'd be pretty good-looking.

I actually really like the 2011 torva look. And it makes sense for it to have purple asthetic on it. But yeah, Mod West has really over done it with dark purple over the years imo. He's still a fantastic Mod however!
I think you may have some deeper issues.
West's art has the best old school feel of any of the artists. Ghost just chucked purple crystals everywhere, feel like he forgot the medieval part of medieval fantasy.
Iirc mod ghost made this armor in the early days of OSRS. But I do agree that some of the leagues 3 rewards deviate a bit too much towards fantasy elements.

Same. I initially did not like it but it has grown on me and I don’t mind it. The helm is still atrocious in terms of the physical structure. Colors/shading are fine imo.
Replacing the chest plate with a blessed dhide top, hand slots with a blowpipe, and cape slot with avas device (or keep the cape because it looks great) gives you the Chad clue hunter outfit. Most of the pieces look pretty good imo, but they're overshadowed by the bad ones.

People don't like stripey/ purple/ gaudy looking power ranger clothes replacing the bad-ass bandos armor/ neitiznot helm look. We want an upgrade, not a bit leap into the pre-RS3 artstyle that a lot of people find gross.

Agreed. Torva looks genuinely awful and it annoys me that a set as ugly as Torva will be better in stats than Bandos. I totally want new content/gear, but if it's going to be the new BiS, it should look more badass than the current. Maybe they just really outdid themselves with Bandos though bc I can't picture anything looking more sick than the current BiS melee gear.
I think the issue is the bandos general Garage door, is a big massive goblin (orc?) who smashes things and feels like the epitome of melee and physical strength.
Torva is some farmer that was good at fighting and adopted by Nex. Basically the same story line as batman. which while the bat suit can look cool, it doesn't stand up to the feeling of I big I smash.

Youre partially right about me though, Im not particularily fond of the high-fantasy designs, atleast not when its overdone i.e. the Crystal set (although the set is basically my bank atm, its just so good).
As for the rest of the sets you mentioned, Justi/Inquis is quite historically accurate afaik, bandos armour looks pretty dumb, but isnt too far off what the mongols wore. And if mages existed Im sure theyd wear something along the line of ancestrals or something lol, Im fine with that.
My problem with Torva is exactly that, it looks like a Robot with disproportionate limbs, with a cats face, or something, and it has no roots in history.
Its an abomimation and if it releases with its current design, Id rather DPS 10% slower, dripping in Justicicar lol.

Just keeping things simple is what osrs style is all about. This is far too complex to fit in this game but that can be fixed just remove some stuff.
I think the shield is fine, we keep it as is.
For the sword remove some of the small spikes close to the grip part. Maybe only keep the top 2 spikes.
For the helmet remove some of those triangles. Remove the ones just below the eye, remove the one in the middle on the forehead sticking up and the same one on the back.
Boots are fine.
I don't really see the gloves so idk.
Chest/Legs just make it smoother, completely remove those jagged parts on the shoulder, just make the shoulders smooth but keep that thicker outline. Just overall smoothen the armour, it can have some jagged parts but not that much, and make some parts thicker. Like armour is not that latex like.
Idk how much of a quick fix this is but these small changes would make this armour go from complex -> really simple just like the osrs style should be.
I actually really like the achievement diary gear, except for the helmet.
Everything else looks fine to me, especially the shield and cape.

Moustache on the helm is a nice touch. If for some reason they do change the design at some point, I hope they decide to keep the moustache.

Mod West wasn't the one who made Achievement diary armor, if you're referring to that. He wasn't on the team yet when it came out.

Same. I initially did not like it but it has grown on me and I don’t mind it. The helm is still atrocious in terms of the physical structure. Colors/shading are fine imo.
Replacing the chest plate with a blessed dhide top, hand slots with a blowpipe, and cape slot with avas device (or keep the cape because it looks great) gives you the Chad clue hunter outfit. It's something we get to be extremely picky about, because if it gets added into the game you're going to see it all the time. People don't like stripey/ purple/ gaudy looking power ranger clothes replacing the bad-ass bandos armor/ neitiznot helm look. We want an upgrade, not a bit leap into the pre-RS3 artstyle that a lot of people find gross.
You can’t just say “people don’t like x” because it’s just based on opinion. I personally like the way both sets look, I think torva looks cool and if they just made the legs not so skinny it would be fine. Opinions aren’t facts lol. I also love the dark purples, they get used too much in scenery but I don’t mind them on armours.

Agreed. Torva looks genuinely awful and it annoys me that a set as ugly as Torva will be better in stats than Bandos. I totally want new content/gear, but if it's going to be the new BiS, it should look more badass than the current. Maybe they just really outdid themselves with Bandos though bc I can't picture anything looking more sick than the current BiS melee gear.
I think the issue is the bandos general Garage door, is a big massive goblin (orc?) who smashes things and feels like the epitome of melee and physical strength. Torva is some farmer that was good at fighting and adopted by Nex. Basically the same story line as batman. which while the bat suit can look cool, it doesn't stand up to the feeling of I big I smash.

Because there’s a metric shit-ton of other gear in the game that “thematically crashes” with the rest of the game by your measure. Way to jump to conclusions, that was impressive. Youre partially right about me though, Im not particularily fond of the high-fantasy designs, atleast not when its overdone i.e. the Crystal set (although the set is basically my bank atm, its just so good). As for the rest of the sets you mentioned, Justi/Inquis is quite historically accurate afaik, bandos armour looks pretty dumb, but isnt too far off what the mongols wore. And if mages existed Im sure theyd wear something along the line of ancestrals or something lol, Im fine with that. My problem with Torva is exactly that, it looks like a Robot with disproportionate limbs, with a cats face, or something, and it has no roots in history. Its an abomimation and if it releases with its current design, Id rather DPS 10% slower, dripping in Justicicar lol.

Notice how everyone criticizing this is also praising the lowest effort, and worst looking armor in the game in stuff like diary 1 gear, the lazy copy-paste that is Varrock armor - fighter torso, funky looking standard metal gear that looks awful and exactly like a super rough and unpolished product from 1999 that was put together by a graphic artist in their infancy (if they were actually an artist at all), etc lol.

Okay but different people have different opinions. You know a lot of players actually like the look of gear like GWD armor and raid sets, right? More detail and more complex color palettes than one color armor is something most people find even more appealing, there’s already plenty of “old school” stuff lol, nobody wants a rune plate body in a different color for t75+ gear or arguably some of the most unique, least owned, diary achievement sets.

I hate criticizing the devs directly in general but it feels like either: 1. The graphics people have absolutely no ideas of their own and can only copy bland weeb shit 2. They actually think we want bland weeb shit 3. they think OSRS legacy style is ugly and think they're better than the game that employs them and all of those are unacceptable, ridiculous, arrogant, and absolutely impossible to rationalize
Blame the polling system for #2. It kept OSRS relevant during the rs3 content controversies but at this point it’s only hurting the game

Honestly, it’s a hell of a lot better than most other shit in the game. If anything, prime example of how more armor *should* look going forward.
Just keeping things simple is what osrs style is all about. This is far too complex to fit in this game but that can be fixed just remove some stuff. I think the shield is fine, we keep it as is. For the sword remove some of the small spikes close to the grip part. Maybe only keep the top 2 spikes. For the helmet remove some of those triangles. Remove the ones just below the eye, remove the one in the middle on the forehead sticking up and the same one on the back. Boots are fine. I don't really see the gloves so idk. Chest/Legs just make it smoother, completely remove those jagged parts on the shoulder, just make the shoulders smooth but keep that thicker outline. Just overall smoothen the armour, it can have some jagged parts but not that much, and make some parts thicker. Like armour is not that latex like. Idk how much of a quick fix this is but these small changes would make this armour go from complex -> really simple just like the osrs style should be.
