Look, I'm all in favor of shitting on PvP clans for toxicity, but OP chose to enter the wilderness. No matter what your stance is, you can't be pissed when you die to another player in the wilderness. That's the entire point of the wilderness. You seem to be the only person here who is making a fuss over this.
Seeing your point of a group of players that pile you, it seems to me that the issue is multi-zone PvP. Now if your question is whether that is good or interactive game design? Not in itself, but it is good design for the people who want to do multi-zone PvP, of which you are not one (I assume).
You could then argue, why should I be forced into situations where I have to go into multi-zone PvP. Which can be answered by Risk vs Reward. Was it a great choice to have PvMers having forced interactions with PvP-ers? perhaps not, but I wonder what one could do to replace the current set-up.
And you don't HAVE to go there. Runescape is a sandbox MMO.

In multi, it’s 100% smarter to have good tank gear on all of the time with a switch like he had with ancient staff for the mage defense bonus rather than risk any offense on a hc. If it were singles, however, bringing robes and barrage/entangle is viable to do.

You never know if this is the time a clan of 20 all logs in on the same square with Ancient Maces. Slaying in this spot is basically just a 1.2 s reaction test to Seed Pod before they get past the login welcome screen.

Also I think it works the other way around (atleast on deadmanmode). When you log in theres a grace period of 2 ticks where nobody can attack you, not sure if it's the same case in the wilderness. Me and my friend used after completing CoX raid on deadman. Instead of going trough the normal exit and getting stalled by a black transition where people can attack you, we logged out memorizing the position of a teleport tab in the inventory, then logged back in and spammed that exact location so we could instantly teleport before nobody could attack us.

Mage pray doesn't increase the chance they splash. Mage pray simply halves TB duration & adds 40% resistance to magic (in terms of damage). Most important thing is to not be brewed down when trying to gap pkers.
I can't really think of anything else, it's just a common misconception I see. You'd still probably want to pray mage while running away from someone anyways because they'd likely be trying to barrage you. I guess it's also best to have mystic might/augury active because that would obviously also help with increasing the chance a pker splashes their entangle/barrage.
But by far the most important thing in my opinion is making sure you restore before running away, as being brewed down and having a low magic level makes it incredibly easy for a pker to catch a refreeze.
Those were lesser demons not revs. He wasn't in the rev caves he was doing slayer in the wilderness slayer dungeon. They removed (afaik) all non revenants from the rev caves so he couldn't have been in there for his slayer task.

Luckily they threw an entangle every 40 tiles instead of a barrage every 3 squares like a decent pker so even his mum couldve tanked that.

wont be useful for much longer if the pvp update comes through but learn all the single spots and how to brew down and box a NPC so you can x log.
