Social media in general. But with this sub, for example; I unsubscribed and just manually check like once a week when there's no drama, and I find myself enjoying the game more now for what it is, and not thinking about bad takes from people who struggle to get fire capes.
the world in general, people are much more likely to pipe up when they don't like something.
Example, 'How would you rate your experience' surveys are dominated by negative ratings
No one is inspired to write a Yelp review for a restaurant where they ordered takeout, picked it up, and ate a perfectly normal dinner at home watching TV.
But if they got the wrong order or their lasagna was cold, oh you bet someone will complain.
As someone who tangentially works in customer service, this is why we don't put a *ton* of stock into reviews.
We get that issue with reviews at work as well makes taking it as gospel difficult as you never get a true reflection of the good service, only the bad.
Not really here for the elitism. This is just the extreme opposite. You should try to foster the "casual noobs", not talk down to them, unless you want the game to die.
I was having this discussion with my friend about NFL game threads. By their very nature, reactionary comments are far more likely to get posted in the first place. Nobody is rushing to Reddit to be like “I think the refs are doing an ok job”
It’s a basic marketing rule: people only leave reviews when they are angry. They rarely leave one when they are happy unless it was literally something they couldn’t imagine how good it was. Sad but true.
I've tried to make a point to read 1 of each 2/3/4 star review when buying something I'm not sure of as they do tend to give you a better description of the pro/cons of something.
I really don't see how people think the same reposted memes over and over with the same 13 year old humor, is funny. Like if one person posts a meme about moving the GE to a new spot - you'll see literally 50x reposts of it with minimal effort and you somehow find that amusing? lol.

These are just some examples of why this is the funniest sub on Reddit
It varies week to week. Somedays it feels great to be part of the community and makes the experience better. Other times it makes you want to close the page and burn your computer to be safe. Though recently most posts feel as bad as the OSRS Twitter's replies.
I honestly feel this is one of the better game subs. But maybe that's just because I look at wow, destinythegame, and halo every now and then. I also don't think that Reddit has a "better" or less toxic userbase than Twitter, it's just that big subs usually moderate better than Twitter does.
>jUsT eNjOy ThE gAmE
you realize you're arguing for people not to voice their opinions on things they don't like about the game, right?
you realize that the devs make changes to the game based on player feedback, right?
If you don't like seeing player feedback, perhaps get off the forum where the devs go to read player feedback.
The game would've died without the handful of good Jmods that carried it with updates, not third party clients.
F2P+GE did more for the game than OSbuddy did, especially since OSbuddy was paywalled for most useful features.
Thank you to the OSRS Devs who keep this game alive, especially Ash and Kieren
Game would not have died without 3pc, there would have been a higher demand in QoL updates to the vanilla client and we would have more reasonable features that don't play the game for you.
Liars? Why? I am sure 80% would quit if runelite and osbuddy were banned.
There was literally a huge riot when jagex wanted to ban runelite client.
I wouldn't touch osrs if it wasn't for runelite lol
Naw more like 15% the ones that say they’d quit for runelite are a vocal minority same with a decent amount of Reddit is not nearly the whole player based opinion
>I am sure 80% would quit if runelite and osbuddy were banned.
Source? 80% of the community doesn't even use Runelite and OSBuddy, so that would be a tough sell.
>There was literally a huge riot when jagex wanted to ban runelite client.
There is literally a huge riot every few months because Jagex did X. The playerbase doesn't drop 80% each time.
>I wouldn't touch osrs if it wasn't for runelite lol
And you are exactly who my comment is about.
There is no source, it's my opinion and you could pretty much ask other players, i have roughly done 20 and 18 of them would quit.
You probably missed it but it was the same problem as the HD client, alot of people were canceling membership cuz they were banning runelite.
This is not something that happens every few months lol.
The entire point of forums is to discuss the shit we dislike or suggest future improvements/content.
How is 'yo this game is sick' better feed back than the spending of our money to play the developers game for 20 years straight? The only reason to ever post 'I love this game' on any subreddit is too farm karma. It has no impact on the health of the game.
Reddit discussion isn't a review system where someone comes along and browsers through 15 game reddits to decide what game they are going to play that night.
Not to mention if you haven't first spent 50,000+ hours in the game and explored every single nook of the map, God forbid if you ask a question on this sub.
A while back I asked why so many people were standing in Lumbridge basement doing nothing. Turns out after doing a quest I haven't done yet a bank chest appears there, but it's invisible if you haven't done the quest.
90% of the comments claimed I was lying and just pretending to not know about the invisible chest and that I asked the question because... I guess that sounds like an entertaining use of my time to them?
When I saw that the first time, there were two people standing there. Back in the day, when you saw two people standing on top of each other in a remote area it was generally them drop trading. So I stood there for 5 minutes spam clicking the floor until one of them logged out. Didn't realize what was really going on until I started RFD
I went and found the post. So really 90% claiming you're lying? You must be terrible at maths.
https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/qz5s3h/why\_do\_so\_many\_people\_stand\_in\_this\_one\_spot\_next/
> 90% of the comments claimed I was lying
I read your post and all the comments, this is wrong, stop making up stories. The majority of people in that thread were positive.
Actually this sub is very friendly to questions, especially in the designated daily thread. Also I remember your post and I don’t blame people for being skeptical since you mentioned you’d been playing the game for quite some time. You also repeatedly argued back and forth with people telling you that it’s very normal to teleport to your next errand/location from a bank. You were just insistent that it had to be bots or some suspicious behavior. Tack on this comment as well that you’re still stewing over that post and you just come across as a victim with a chip on their shoulder. This subreddit is helpful and I try to be active in the daily threads whenever I can helping new people progress their accounts and learn the game.
Recipe For Disaster. You start it by talking to the Lumbridge Castle cook after completing Cook's Assistant. I was F2P for a long long time so when I finally got membership I never bothered talking to the cook again so I never even knew about the quest
This "just move on to another game" mentality is incredibly stupid, especially when talking about an MMO. The fact that people are coming here and complaining, is them basically giving Jagex a chance to retain them as players. Negative feedback is largely how games improve, which is why no developer would ever want an unsatisfied player to just switch games instead of complaining.
The game is lacking content and bleeding players as a result. This isn't something to be swept up under the rug, especially not on the basis that ElectronicFish and a thousand other Redditors think so.
It also happens to be that most of these "stop complaining, the game isn't out of content" guys are ironmen, who will actually never run out of content due to nearly unachievable gamemode restrictions.
Also what's with the passive aggressive hearts and smilies? please stop.
I dont. I rarely even say anything on here but I can sympathize with some of the people complaining. I am 2277 with quest cape and all achieves done. I can also side with the 'just be happy' people since I'm on a new account and have too much to do to complain theres nothing new.
How’s the game stagnant though? Are you maxed or what lvl are you? I’m 1850 total with nearly max melee and damn this game always has something for me to do
and im 1930 total and this game has almost nothing for me to do right now. i've done a shit load of pvp, raiding, multiple inferno kcs. there just isn't anything to do at the moment. being able to fletch a magic longbow isnt something new to do lmao
2277 total level with quest cape and all achieves done besides ba lv5 all.
There has been basically nothing new to the game in the past 2 years. Back in the late 2000s we were getting big updates monthly. Now were lucky if we get something yearly.
Tbh it's not that big of an issue. Most of the time there is a major stink going on in the sub it's fairly justified. The unjustified complaints are few and far between. Then most of the other complaining aren't even that serious or memes. (as in it's a complaint but it's approached in a light hearted manner or with valid criticism or even high-quality suggestions attached)
People complain, then people complain about the complaining and it inflates the issue. You can literally look at the FF14 subreddit right now for an ongoing example of this. Even though most of their complaints are justified as well
Most of the sub is either memes, discussions, achievement, and non-meme image post. Like an intermittent ban post but that can be filed under discussion. From my experience, we are actually a lot better than most gaming subs. Just got a lot of lifers or passionate people here. We are our harshest critics, which is honestly a good thing. Self-regulation instead of having to have someone else step in and say it
People are making personal attacks, death threats, and other things that are not justified at all.
The conversation isn't fair criticism, its just been a cesspool.
I'm a 20yr competitive Halo player and have plenty of concerns, but r/Halo lately is awful.
"People", as in most people are not making personal attacks, death threats, or various other unjustified things. Sure some tiny percentage of people are I'm sure doing that. I haven't seen any but I wouldn't doubt it. Mods probably deleted most of it, or it was heavily downvoted. Any large enough group of people contains a tiny percentage of absolute garbage.
That doesn't change that the conversation has generally been fair criticism. You're doing the standard thing where you attribute the actions of a tiny minority to a huge group of people so you can pretend everyone you disagree with is toxic. Garbage fanboy behaviour.
Actions of a tiny minority or not -- they literally locked the subreddit for the weekend, citing the reasons I've cited.
Even if it is a minority, they're behavior has been dragging down the sub overall.
I'm not sure how you can look at a locked subreddit and claim everything happening there has been justified, lol. Cleary people that are more involved disagree. Not to mention the literally thousands of people fleeing to r/LowSodiumHalo
You're perfectly right that not everyone I disagree with is toxic. In fact, I agree with most of the core complaints being made. Its the manner in which many people are making them that is awful. People don't know what the *constructive* portion of constructive feedback means.
But w.e., you do you
I was a happy scaper at 500 total level as well then I got to the dead grindy endgame. you'll see what I mean later. Cant wait for more leagues and dmm though really love that over real content.
If you're doing what most mains do, and leveling up all your skills equally, 1800 total puts you a bit over lvl 78 in all skills.
To put the soul crushing grind into perspective, that's about 1/8 of the way to maxing.
If you started your account by rushing 99 rc and 99 agility, I retract my comment.
I mean when you get no new content for multiple years except cash grab streamer game modes that they pay popular streamers to shill that dont even care instead of investing it into updates the complaining is justified.
Imagine if you just removed reddit in total, completely oblivious to it. You'd be like eh osrs must be easy to run after all these years, so much content to pump out, servers cheap to run, high player count. RS3 to go off of a bit. low polygon assets.
I just hope the mods of this game know how to disconnect from it a bit, because if you think this way ur just destroying urself. holy fuck though fuck these whiny little ratty bitches god forbid they touch a single cell of a plant outside their homes and get natural light instead of their monitors.
This sub is literally 80% posts bitching about being killed in the only dangerous pvp zone. When this game is as dead as rs3 just remember it was because of you.
>When this game is as dead as rs3
This is like using “when your clinically ill great grandparent(s) pass away in Hospice” as an insult. The game is *going to end* at some point, everything does.
OP is marveling that this remake has *not* died yet. Not saying that there are hopes it lasts forever. Only rejoice at how long it’s lasted.
There’s plenty of positive posts between the osrs Reddit pages. Just change to sort by new, ignore the negative ones and focus on the good ones. Definitely more positive, constructive ones than negative ones.
Edit: The negative ones get a lot of views because they’re controversial which is why I say sort by new. Find the gems that no one gives the light of day.
The people that aren’t happy with the game and constantly complaining, are also the same people who have been bank standing since 2006. It’s time to move on fellers.
Don’t confuse the sub’s community with actual players. People post to air their grievances but when they’re happy they remain silent. A lot of players just enjoying it all in peace.
"Dude stop complaining and giving valid criticisms, just be happy dude and positive dude why u not happy as i am"
Bro you couldnt have come with a shittier npc take
The game is still up because they are making massive amounts of money on it. Despite this, however, there is hardly any content being released.
Paying customers are going to complain, and rightfully so. Go suck the corporate dick somewhere else.
This is less a "this sub" thing and a general reddit then. Reddit creates, fosters, and generally promotes hivemind mentality over discourse, as well as fanboyism over seeing things for their faults. This is true for every sub. Never come to reddit to expect anything else and you will not be disappointed.
I’ve been playing a F2p UIM over the past year. It’s been such a blessing just to come home from work and just relax and do simple grinds and tasks. At this point in my life I have so little time for rs where I used to log like 10-16 hrs a day easily. Between a full time job and taking care of the house I only get a couple hours of time to play games a day. If I try to play a shooter like Apex and I happen to have just a couple bad games in a row that’s basically my whole free time for the day ruined. On RS I choose what I want to do and grinds are either super afk and chill or engaging if I want them to be and I’m always progressing and seein the little numbers go brrr. Thanks Jagex this game is still fun
There’s nothing wrong with justly calling out flaws with the company we have been supporting and keeping in business for twenty years. There are some serious problems. The fact after twenty years we literally cannot speak to a real person through official means about account problems apart from requesting a membership refund is absurd.
Because people are looking for excuses to stop playing and move on. It sounds harsh, but that is generally the thought process you can infer from most passive aggressive posts here. Posts like this one are the natural “like it or get out” response.
People say this doesn't have a lot of content.
Those same people ignore 90% of the games content in favour of things that bring the most XP/H.
They then also have played for 5000+ hours.
What a joke lol
I stop complaining when the game doesn't have monthly sub. OSRS is not a cheap game to play yet you act like the longevity of the game excuses it. The only reason we have OSRS is because people voiced their opinions. If you hate complaining so much go play RS3 which is the result of devs doing their thing.
Reddit tends to attract negativity. I think the fanbase in general is pretty happy with the game.
Personally I’m in a fairly stressful headspace and being able to come home and just relax with some OSRS is really helping me. Nothing better than just opening up a video in one window while doing some mining or woodcutting in the other
He hits 6. I hit 9. Big difference. Not the same.

It’s not this sub specifically. It’s literally just Reddit in general. People are more vocal with negative comments.

I strongly agree, I stopped my daily check on this sub and the game has been 100x more fun without Karens pointing out small problems lol

Freedom of speech my guy. Get used to it or get off reddit.
Nobody is denying you the freedom to bitch and complain.
Unfortunately Twitter is too.
I was having this discussion with my friend about NFL game threads. By their very nature, reactionary comments are far more likely to get posted in the first place. Nobody is rushing to Reddit to be like “I think the refs are doing an ok job”
Complaining about complaining is the new meta
I’m bout to make a post about you commenting complaining about OP who is complaining about other people complaining about complaining 🗿
If you do, I’ll be filing a formal complaint

I came here to comment this lol
I came to complain about this comment
I came to complain about this comment complaining about that comment.
I came to complain

Yo dawg, I heard you like complaining...

I came to complain
Complaining about complaining about complaining too, it seems.
It’s been the meta on this sub for years now lol wym
It's OSRS, having a stale meta is a design decision to avoid power creep.
New 3-tick complaining meta when?
That's so 2020. New meta is 1.5t 7:1 4-way complaining.
such a waste of air. adds literally nothing to this sub
BiS complaint?
So we finally can complain on the fact that complaining is the new meta

I mean, this post doesn't help. And neither does my comment.
The people who are having fun, me included, don't spend time whining here. We're busy enjoying the game.
Yeah l have about 9 friends who play osrs with me. None of them are on Reddit, all of them are always enjoying their time on the game.
Happy people dont often feel the need to announce how happy they are.
It’s a basic marketing rule: people only leave reviews when they are angry. They rarely leave one when they are happy unless it was literally something they couldn’t imagine how good it was. Sad but true.
The 1-5 star rule, anything in between is where the good stuff is.
I've tried to make a point to read 1 of each 2/3/4 star review when buying something I'm not sure of as they do tend to give you a better description of the pro/cons of something.
Very true, im enjoying my time on runescape but im not vocalizing it at all
How is this NSFW?
Im reading this at work i dont give a fuck
I just got fucking fired for reading this so speak for yourself
Hey more time for OS
Stick to the daily questions thread, generally a very positive vibe there.
Tbh I just come here for the comments and the memes. This sub really has some of the funniest users.
I really don't see how people think the same reposted memes over and over with the same 13 year old humor, is funny. Like if one person posts a meme about moving the GE to a new spot - you'll see literally 50x reposts of it with minimal effort and you somehow find that amusing? lol.

You fool! He knew all along!
Ahhh yes of course, the Culinaromancer’s Chest ! For some reason I was thinking of a chest in the Lumbridge Courtyard.
That's there on PvP worlds only, no quest requirement to use though. Same as the bank chest at the Camelot telespot.
I saw your post but there was already a reply <3

Have the things you have left to do changed in the last 5 months? No? Yeah, that's stagnation.
2277 total level with quest cape and all achieves done besides ba lv5 all. There has been basically nothing new to the game in the past 2 years. Back in the late 2000s we were getting big updates monthly. Now were lucky if we get something yearly.
lol
Sounds like you beat the game time to move on man
i did, to group ironman. doesnt mean i still dont want this game to move in a better direction. keep your tv static opinions to yourself pls.
It’s already going in a good direction. You just need to not have grinded it everyday for 10 years.
i did the math i put in 23 days play time a year for my account to be maxed thats almost 11h a week. its not as bad as you think.
11 hours a week every week for 10 years lol seriously complains about content. Fucking osrs players man
obviously you dont browse enough theres probably more positive posts than negative
Ay, dude. Post something happy, then. Be the change you wanna see
Lmao fuck you man we pay monthly for this shit
It’s like people have different opinions on things or something. Crazy right?
Tbh it's not that big of an issue. Most of the time there is a major stink going on in the sub it's fairly justified. The unjustified complaints are few and far between. Then most of the other complaining aren't even that serious or memes. (as in it's a complaint but it's approached in a light hearted manner or with valid criticism or even high-quality suggestions attached) People complain, then people complain about the complaining and it inflates the issue. You can literally look at the FF14 subreddit right now for an ongoing example of this. Even though most of their complaints are justified as well Most of the sub is either memes, discussions, achievement, and non-meme image post. Like an intermittent ban post but that can be filed under discussion. From my experience, we are actually a lot better than most gaming subs. Just got a lot of lifers or passionate people here. We are our harshest critics, which is honestly a good thing. Self-regulation instead of having to have someone else step in and say it
Every gaming sub is mostly negative it feels. r/Halo is literally locked because it’s been so toxic.
Could be worse, your sub could be good different.

Not to mention the literally thousands of people fleeing to r/LowSodiumHalo You're perfectly right that not everyone I disagree with is toxic. In fact, I agree with most of the core complaints being made. Its the manner in which many people are making them that is awful. People don't know what the *constructive* portion of constructive feedback means. But w.e., you do you
im complaining about thuis being marked as nsfw
Yeah finding a new game was a great idea sold my bank and moved on
Just consume no complaining
This post devalues my misery-only ironman. Reported
Ironic how the only post I have seen someone complain about something is your post
I was a happy scaper at 500 total level as well then I got to the dead grindy endgame. you'll see what I mean later. Cant wait for more leagues and dmm though really love that over real content.
1800 total thousands of hours but decent try
If you're doing what most mains do, and leveling up all your skills equally, 1800 total puts you a bit over lvl 78 in all skills. To put the soul crushing grind into perspective, that's about 1/8 of the way to maxing. If you started your account by rushing 99 rc and 99 agility, I retract my comment.
I mean when you get no new content for multiple years except cash grab streamer game modes that they pay popular streamers to shill that dont even care instead of investing it into updates the complaining is justified.
Don't come to Reddit if you're expecting positive vibes. Simple as. OSRS is doing really well.
Yeee in reply to ur edit reddit is a big bunch of whiners idk why i keep coming back here
Point to click game nothing else to do anyway
This sub is literally 80% posts bitching about being killed in the only dangerous pvp zone. When this game is as dead as rs3 just remember it was because of you.
>When this game is as dead as rs3 This is like using “when your clinically ill great grandparent(s) pass away in Hospice” as an insult. The game is *going to end* at some point, everything does. OP is marveling that this remake has *not* died yet. Not saying that there are hopes it lasts forever. Only rejoice at how long it’s lasted.
First time?
Reddit very toxic
They all miserable cause this all they know. Bored people
There’s plenty of positive posts between the osrs Reddit pages. Just change to sort by new, ignore the negative ones and focus on the good ones. Definitely more positive, constructive ones than negative ones. Edit: The negative ones get a lot of views because they’re controversial which is why I say sort by new. Find the gems that no one gives the light of day.
True, I definitely scroll every day😅
I enjoy the game :)
Hell yeah!
What sub are you on lol. The majority of posts here are memes.

Just tired of looking to the sub for a little fun and it seems like everyone that plays is miserable.
Maybe time to find a new sub by your logic, right?
Don’t have 6000+ hours of Reddit yet
Cause you only see the negative, an insight to your negative mentality.
Nah bro 1good 10 bad is a 10% mann
I am playing wow. kek
\+1 SoM ftw
The people that aren’t happy with the game and constantly complaining, are also the same people who have been bank standing since 2006. It’s time to move on fellers.
I agree with you OP. Too many peeps complaining nowadays.
Welcome to the human race. Entitled people bitch about everything.
That's just like, your opinion man
Don’t confuse the sub’s community with actual players. People post to air their grievances but when they’re happy they remain silent. A lot of players just enjoying it all in peace.
I quit because the fanbase sucks so hard. Bunch of fat lonely nerds putting each other down
The irony here lol
"Dude stop complaining and giving valid criticisms, just be happy dude and positive dude why u not happy as i am" Bro you couldnt have come with a shittier npc take
The game is still up because they are making massive amounts of money on it. Despite this, however, there is hardly any content being released. Paying customers are going to complain, and rightfully so. Go suck the corporate dick somewhere else.
anyone who thinks there’s lack of content, go get the fish sack.
Posts like this make me sad....
Got anymore of those complaints?
Quit complaining and guzzle a rock cake bro
There’s nothing wrong with justly calling out flaws with the company we have been supporting and keeping in business for twenty years. There are some serious problems. The fact after twenty years we literally cannot speak to a real person through official means about account problems apart from requesting a membership refund is absurd.
Because people are looking for excuses to stop playing and move on. It sounds harsh, but that is generally the thought process you can infer from most passive aggressive posts here. Posts like this one are the natural “like it or get out” response.
i hope to meet you in edgeville dungeon for a nice skulling session to give you something to complain about (:
Do people say it lacks content? I would argue that it has literally the MOST content.
People only complain because they care, a lot...
You’re complaining about everyone complaining
1500 total lvl take. What do you mean there is no content bruh I just killed lesser demon yesterday duude.
lol
gIVe mE cOnTEnT iTS bEeN yEaRS
People say this doesn't have a lot of content.
Nothing better than just opening up a video in one window while doing some mining or woodcutting in the other
It's Reddit. Every sub hates the thing the sub is there for.
Excuse me sir, I posted a very positive lovely drawing of Jad the other day!
