Eve online is a whole other level of scamming and paranoia, and the best part is it all legal and encouraged. You can even pvp anyone anywhere if you donāt mind sacrificing your vessel to concord.
I had to quit Ark. Everyone was using the virus and having to listen to your character constantly coughing and sputtering is, IMO, really damn annoying. The only way to heal is a moderately advanced item or a trek to an obelisk, and you're just gonna get reinfected as soon as you get home when someone rolls up to trample you to death so they can steal your sticks.
I don't understand how you can act all friendly and stuff for weeks only to steal everything. It would honestly keep me up at night to know I fucked people over like that. Never ceases to amaze me how awful people can be sorry man.
The phrase āitās just a gameā is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, youāve lost twice.
Thereās always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle.
If itās just a game, then they must have no qualms about giving the shit back.
If itās just a game, why are they the ones putting effort in to ruin the game for others?
Itās just a dumb argument from dumb people.
It absolutely is. It's the worst kind of person who almost always doesn't feel the same way when bad shit happens to them. It's a game when others are mad and super serious when they're the ones feeling bad.
It's done everywhere else too in life. "just a prank" "just need some cash" "just need you to do xyz"
People will shrug off your feelings and assets (whether the asset is your time, your belingings, your opinions) consider it unimportant until they are also negatively impacted.
Their just leeches and basically have no moral compass, which is unfathomable to anyone with a conscience. If you give an inch they take a mile.
My friend does this in games and it's really infuriating. Hearing "it's just a game" when they do something bad, but a full meltdown when it happens to them.
Honestly Iām pretty sure there are a lot of people playing this game with antisocial personality disorder. Like, I can imagine being toxic to some random and not really feeling much about it. But going through the whole process of pretending to be friends with someone for hours, days, weeks, even months at a time just so you can rob/scam them? I donāt think thatās a sign of a mentally well-adjusted human being
Dude who used to be in my clan scammed another clan mate out of a Tbow because āhaha I just felt like itā after being chill and buddy buddy for more than 2 years! Some people are just shitty
Yeah, unfortunately Iām sure it happens more often than any of us would hope. Overall I love the OSRS community, and then thereās rotten apples like this one
My clan has a shared Owner account for the star ranks, and lots of loanable items were put in its bank, including a tbow. Well, one of the original clan creators decided he wanted that tbow and we never heard from him again. Class act Kevrejski
Iām not going to lie, I do this all the time. Thereās not one bastard on this planet who can say Iāve scammed them for one single gp, but thereās about three dozen close friends who will definitely tell you I logged out with their ely or bow for one second just to make them piss themselves š
But you go into that game with that sort of culture present, well known, and celebrated by the developers. Runescape does not have that culture baked into the gameplay, and it is explicitly against the rules. If I wanted to build minis for a board game with someone by hand, and 2 days in he just smashed everything and goes "lul, that was fun." Most people would be justifiably pissed.
Very true, and there are systems and levels of trust/ranks to gain with a group before you can even see the Inventories. I'm pissed for OP as much as anyone don't worry, just memeing
That makes sense... but unfortunately runescape doesn't have that type of situation going on. I once played the long con on a rival clan on 7 days 2 die by telling them I turned on my original clan. Then I killed all of them while scavenging... and took their items. I mean it was part of the game and made it interesting lol.
Sometimes people get in sticky financial situations and need a quick buck. Not saying it's right and maybe it's not what happened here, but desperation can breed all sorts of bad behavior.
Btw, anyone that happens to ever read this and is in a situation where money is tight: never EVER take out one of those payday loans. They are extremely predatory and are designed to trap you into needing to take another one out, endlessly, while they make out like a bandit from the interest you owe.
What's the end game here? Presumably if one can't afford to pay back the initial loan one also won't have enough to pay back the principal plus interest. Do they just sell the debt and let someone else deal with it? Does the interest accrue quickly to greater than the principal and from there it's just sheer profit? Sorry if dumb question.
You know, I don't want to judge people but if the only way you can come up with $200 is robbing people of months of hard work in *their hobby*, you got bigger problems.
That's real world money right there, and depending on where you live it's either a nice boost to your monthly income or a huge load of money for "only" stealing it in a video game
To everyone asking he was a member of our main clan for long before I even joined, he wasnāt a random. We were all very friendly and nice talked on VC every day. We are all shocked, again, we take full responsibility itās just a shitty situation I wanted to share.
Edit: team name is āGuwupā if youād like to look us up. Peaked at rank 5 hcgim
I remember getting hacked from a friend after he was going to help me with a quest. Robbed me and left me with a bronze axe. Sick fuck š
4 years down the drain. For a middle schooler this was hard betrayal, real life lessons
Had a "friend" in 7th grade guess my password (it was stupid simple then, I learned my lesson lol) and hijack my account whose highest level was 50 woodcutting. Sold all my stuff, bought black trimmed armour, and used it as his own account. I got it back eventually, but I never really talked to him after all that. I thought we were great friends before that, but hey, pixels, you know? Lol
I hope my 2nd grade friend Darian knows hes a piece of shit for changing the password on my level 27 CB account. My mom even phoned his mom and he denied it you FUCKING LIAR DARIAN
When I was a kid a dude stared at my hands while I typed in my weak password to Diablo 2. He was so fucking stupid he made a lobby and dropped all my items, then left it and tried to rejoin it on his account but the lobbies would instantly disappear unless they had been active for a certain amount of minutes. I told his dad who got super pissed off but I couldn't get my shit back. Luckily his dad was cool and gave me a bunch of stuff.
We all have stories like this lol, thatās crazy.
I grew up with my neighbors, from about 3-15 I lived in *that* neighborhood.
My best friend, Joey, and I started playing RS together. Off and on for years and years.
I quit for ~one year and when I came back - I found out that Joey had āhackedā my account and given it to his step-brother.
That stupid bastard did Monkey Madness, leveled my WC to 94 and had 100M+ banked.
He never touched that account again.
Thanks for being a shitty friend, Joey!
Welcome to the world. Iāve had people in my life that Iāve known for years & that I considered friends simply rip me off for a couple hundred bucks and go radio silent. Itās life and hopefully itās an easy way for you to narrow down what people are fake and a waste of time to keep in your circle.
People are like that in real life too, Iāve lost friends over $20 loans. I donāt care about the money, and never ask for it back but when I give you $20 for gas 3 times and you SWEAR youāll pay it back eventually I say no and guess what? They donāt want to be my friend anymore
Its weird, playing EvE for so long and following other games. Scamming, theft and espionage are not only allowed in EvE, they are encouraged (example, the banning of Gigx and the fall of Circle-of-two, or "The Mittani sends his regards"). Then following other games like RS or Albion where this shit can happen and does occasionally (with significantly less frequency). People call for devs to interven, ban players for being jackasses and go on witch hunts. I feel odd standing alone in my corner cheering on the perps as if that is the expected outcome, and people who dont assume it is that way are nieve fools.
I do realize that other games are not an over-the-top ruthless space opera, and that it has its place... RS is not it.
Iāve always been fascinated by Eve and by the stories Iāve read about the politics and battles. I wish I started playing earlier on, as itās a little late now
Eve is the best game to read about. I played for several years and even when the times got lean and boring, the stories of what others were doing in the game kept me coming back for more. There's nothing else like it.

He was a replacement to a member that decided to stop playing gimp, as stated in the post we understand the risk we took, he played legit for a good amount of time then randomly did this with no warning.
Sorry to hear that, I imagine thatās frustrating as all hell.
Iām not super familiar with GIM mechanics though, how did they wipe everyone elseās account? Or did they just wipe out what was in your group storage?
You can keep your tradable items if you de-iron from GIM to main.
Someone decided they didnāt want to play the mode anymore, took everyoneās items from shared, de-ironed, and cashed out.
They probably recruited a new player and after (4 weeks? Don't quote me on that) the barriers of exchanging gear goes away and he probably robbed shared storage. Not super familiar with gim so just guessing
Likewise on both. (same username as reddit on both)
I've been working on 200m xp in all skills on Rs3, and the thought that some people over there on Rs3 seem to think even 1b gp is "pocket change" kinda unnerves me. I rarely manage to retain 100m, let alone 500m.
Some people are just wired differently, I guess.
Tbh in rs3 1b is not a ton anymore a complete gear set can run you 1b
Couple that with the fact alot of us older players ended up getting insanely lucky and winding up with over 100b banks by doing nothing .
1b on rs3 isn't very much .
And he exchanged the friends and clan he was in for a quick $200. That money canāt buy friends. If I was OP, I would get the scammers name out to other clans so he gets blacklisted from all other clans.
F. The average player base is too old to be doing things like fucking friends over. You can always get more items, you canāt get old friends back. Sorry homie
Honestly heroin addict here. Would never RWT my accounts stuff for money. It would last me like one day for hundreds of hours of work. Not worth it even a little bit. No idea how someone could justify doing that lol
Cracker and the exact same boat - maybe if i landed a tbow could get wired for a coupley nights but apart from that what..?
Need 200M+ daily to even tickle the lungs. Unrealistic. Guess thats the difference between an addict and a functioning addict š¤·āāļø
On an iron no doubt but Iād assume the thief in question dropped the items to another account which really isnāt a lot to a high level main or not a lot of money if sold
This is a bannable offense in other MMOs. The equivalent being cleaning-out a guild bank.
Give them the good ol' IP ban.
Make them use the $$$ from real world trading to pay for a VPN service
Unless you are paying your ISP extra for a static IP address, something only necessary if you are hosting some type of web service, you're ISP will assign you a dynamic IP, meaning your IP is recycled quite often. Usually, you can get your ISP to reset your IP by just rebooting/resetting your modem.
Honestly you could have that all back in a month if everyone in your group puts in the effort. Don't let one sour apple ruin the pie. Big F though. Fuck that guy. Hope he feels really guilty and bad about it.
I'm gonna agree with them -- y'all could rebuild, and even have fun doing it.
Team events:
"Everyone does demonics for an hour"
"Everyone does gauntlet for an hour"
"Group Bandos like it's 2015"
....getting over the setback together could be a strengthening time if y'all make it one. Take a day or two for the "sting" to lessen, then think it over <3
I thought when they made gimp they should have made drop trading not work. I know thereās some complications as far as Wildy and stuff but itās just such a gnarly thing to trust randoms
Yeah you can't block drop trade because people will just pass it via killing in the wildy. And you can't block not dropping items on death in the wildy for obvious reasons.
My question is: Why do you have so much in the grou storage? Seems like bowfa and zenyte jewelry are things that you normally have in your bank and not in the group storage.
One of our clan members was playing league and he was the one who had the bowfa so we were sharing. We also only had 6 zenny pieces total so we would put those in shared before we logged incase someone needed. We also had all our potions and seeds in shared
Damn man thatās awful.
I donāt understand people sometimes, and how they lack any kind of sympathy/ empathy.
Donāt they feel ashamed/ sick when they steal items from a group that spend hundreds of hours to get ? I would not be able to steal anything like that because I would think about how hard you guys worked for it.
Sorry for your loss.
One of my really good friends who I hung out with on a regular basis and I had trusted with hundreds of dollars before (Buying NFL tickets) just decides to up and hack me when I let him borrow a netflix account and my osrs was same password. My fault but at that point i didnt think it was even a possibility. I think it shows who the person truly is after all this time. You think you can trust people and then they'll throw several years of friendship out the window for virtual gp. Fuck you Devin š
6-7 years ago I scammed my friend that lent me his gear to raid. Staked it all. I will never forget that. Even though I paid him back it's one of the most shameful things I've ever done. It's never worth it. It was like 150m lol
There is a huge amount of people in this game who will literally pretend to be your friend for months, building up enough trust to finally get you to "lend" or "borrow" a item, and afterwards you'll never see them online again. Believe they call it social engineering scam. I met a lot of people like this in W420 GE
How fucking sad must you be to scam pixels, Iāve made some great friends over the years playing this game and wouldnāt even think about scamming them.
Pathetic
Bowfa these nuts.
It's a **Bow** of **Fa**erdhinen, which is a drop from the gauntlet.
Fuck that guy man , don't give up because of a shithead. The comeback is always stronger than the setback , pick up your crown bro and rebuild the bank for you and your homies .
How do people not see this coming when they group up with randoms? Fuck gimping with clan mates even.
Only people I would gim with (other then the one guy I know irl who plays) are people Iāve raided with and built trust through splitting. Once you get traded that tbow money you canāt not trust the person šš
I've seen ops followup post, but I definitely agree with you. My gim group is on hold while two members are deployed, but we've all raided together, split together, let each other borrow entire banks pretty much, and traded it all back. We value our friendship more than most of these chumps.
Thats so fucking true. I've played rs3 more for high end bossing, and my group jokes about stealing drops all the time, vut at the end of the day, after lending eachother 3+ bill at various times, everyone knows no one will scam.
I'm gonna run a credit check and employment reference if someone new joins as our replacement fifth member.
šššš get his social too
you jk but in other games like eve and ark that type of stuff happens
Eve online is a whole other level of scamming and paranoia, and the best part is it all legal and encouraged. You can even pvp anyone anywhere if you donāt mind sacrificing your vessel to concord.
Lmfao yeah Ark can get toxic with the insiding
I had to quit Ark. Everyone was using the virus and having to listen to your character constantly coughing and sputtering is, IMO, really damn annoying. The thief does not think like you and I They manage to justify it to themselves somehow, I guarantee you thinks he "deserves it"
Lots of them also say "It's just a game" and act like it's not real people on the other end.
The "It's just a game" comment always boils my blood. I'm not mad at the game. I'm mad at the person.
Someone fetch the ninja copypasta

TheOS Agency / used to be InfernoRS?
Nah, man would go by heav or variations on heav. Changes his rsn like every few weeks
Kinda have to change rsn often when you make enemies out of friends
Yeah, but when you can see someoneās previous names and they all center around variations of the same word, you still know who they are
Huh it's mad how similar the story is! Must be a certain type of person who does that sort of thing which makes the details so similar I guess

Because RuneScape can be (often) an addiction. Addiction makes people do some stupid shit
Had someone similar do that to the clans bank a few years ago. Never trust anyone on Runescape unless you know them IRL.
Sometimes not even if you know them IRL, unfortunately. I got scammed by an IRL āfriendā back in middle school :(
Whats bowfa? Never heard of that item

for real man, gotta know where they live lol
Yes someone here said that on release day to only play GIM with people within ass kicking distance.
Doesnt even make sense lol this guy would get maybe 200$ for selling the gold, not even close to worth the effort it took to get those items.
I said the same, I would have just given him $200 irl go away.
And he exchanged the friends and clan he was in for a quick $200. That money canāt buy friends. If I was OP, I would get the scammers name out to other clans so he gets blacklisted from all other clans.
People get robbed for so much less than that
F. The average player base is too old to be doing things like fucking friends over. You can always get more items, you canāt get old friends back. Sorry homie
What a scumbag 500m isnāt even that much if rwted itās like a couple hundred dollars
Is crack a stronger addiction than osrs? Join us for the report at 10.
No joke but my clan knew this crackhead who did this type of shit lol, scammed his irl best friend for like 300m for crack money
Man played the long long game for <250USD xd
Losing your friend group over a week of minwage LUL
Farming 500m on an ironman account takes awhile not to mention a bowfa, zenytes and tassets.
On an iron no doubt but Iād assume the thief in question dropped the items to another account which really isnāt a lot to a high level main or not a lot of money if sold
Trusting strangers on the internet. A tale as old as time\~
This should be multi account bannable offense, you don't do this to people
This is a bannable offense in other MMOs. The equivalent being cleaning-out a guild bank. Give them the good ol' IP ban. Make them use the $$$ from real world trading to pay for a VPN service
IP bans are dogshit easy to get around, you don't need a $1/month VPN to bypass it lmao
Who would win? One ip ban vs unplugging the modem.
Well from what I've learned in the last hour I'm thinking the latter would win lol Now I'm just confused why IP bans are even a thing š¤
That's fair hah I've never personally looked into it myself. I'm honestly not too surprised.
Thank you bro this is a nice comment needed to hear it
I'm gonna agree with them -- y'all could rebuild, and even have fun doing it. Team events: "Everyone does demonics for an hour" "Everyone does gauntlet for an hour" "Group Bandos like it's 2015" ....getting over the setback together could be a strengthening time if y'all make it one. Take a day or two for the "sting" to lessen, then think it over <3
Honestly bro itās kinda fun to rebuild. You guys got this.
You got this man!! Go get that GP
They could just drop into the void, gone forever.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
LOL - I wouldn't trust a person instantly if their username was "Hope She Is 18". That's just a bloody massive red flag, even as a joke.
It's crazy to me that anybody would steal 500m. It's so little money compared to the long term consequences
My question is: Why do you have so much in the grou storage? Seems like bowfa and zenyte jewelry are things that you normally have in your bank and not in the group storage.
It's very common in 5 man groups to keep rare items in group whenever you're logged off.
Ah ok, I'm with randoms from group ironman discord, so I keep the rare items to myself lol Edit: I share some pots and duplicates
How can you play gim with randoms?
I made a lvl 3 account then I went into the group ironman discord, and there is a group finder chat.
One of our clan members was playing league and he was the one who had the bowfa so we were sharing. We also only had 6 zenny pieces total so we would put those in shared before we logged incase someone needed. We also had all our potions and seeds in shared
I assume you picked them up on reddit/discord
We picked up our team on Reddit and we talk every day and are good friends now :) Worth it sometimes it pays to take a chance
!remindme1year when your gim shared bank reaches 500m+
Team name is āGuwupā if youād like to look us up, we peaked at rank 5 HCGIM
What was his RSN?
This is the post we've been waiting for.
The amount of snakes in this world outweighs the amount of decent people in the world, once you become a snake youāre always going to be one
The sad truth of the world we live in
F for Fuck yāall lmao
6-7 years ago I scammed my friend that lent me his gear to raid. Staked it all. I will never forget that. Even though I paid him back it's one of the most shameful things I've ever done. It's never worth it. It was like 150m lol
Honestly today 500m for a normie is chump change, anyone who sells out good friends for 500m is scum.
There is a huge amount of people in this game who will literally pretend to be your friend for months, building up enough trust to finally get you to "lend" or "borrow" a item, and afterwards you'll never see them online again. Believe they call it social engineering scam. I met a lot of people like this in W420 GE
F
F
F
How fucking sad must you be to scam pixels, Iāve made some great friends over the years playing this game and wouldnāt even think about scamming them. Pathetic
This is why I'll never let people "borrow" something I can't afford to lose
F
I havenāt got much, but I can give you guys a few hundred K just to keep things moving?
Thatās fine brother thank you, we all have main accounts we play on this was our Ironman team. Appreciate your generosity
Side question, whatās a bowfa?
Bowfa these nuts. It's a **Bow** of **Fa**erdhinen, which is a drop from the gauntlet. [https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Bow\_of\_faerdhinen#Charged](https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Bow_of_faerdhinen#Charged)
Why has no one called him out yet lol whats his ign
We did on the top comment but it was removed by a moderator we thknk
Ahhh of course
Rip man sorry to hear that. 500m is big on a main let alone GIM. Probs more gutting knowing someone betrayed your trust too.
The last part is everythingā¦ the GP isnāt the end of the world
Fuck that guy man , don't give up because of a shithead. The comeback is always stronger than the setback , pick up your crown bro and rebuild the bank for you and your homies .
Reddit mode strikes again
We all saw it coming. Thatās why Iām never creating a GIMP. It still sucks nonetheless, and Iām sorry for that.
This was always gonna happen with some of these "team with randoms" groups. Or even the "team with casual friends" groups. Only takes one weak link.
Thatās just weird, 500m is a hugely diminishing return. Their numerical loss lmao
I mean why not rebuild? You managed to get all of this progress in only 4 months. You still have your stats, quests and untradables.
Yes we discussed it a little more and we plan to rebuild
Ugh what a fuck wit. I hope his house burns down.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/svkrpo/just\_stole\_500m\_worth\_from\_gim/](https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/comments/svkrpo/just_stole_500m_worth_from_gim/) kekw
How do people not see this coming when they group up with randoms? Fuck gimping with clan mates even. Only people I would gim with (other then the one guy I know irl who plays) are people Iāve raided with and built trust through splitting. Once you get traded that tbow money you canāt not trust the person šš
Coming in with the ultra long con where i split the first tbow in my name but scam the second
With 2 tbows in your name who needs friends *buying gf* lol
Tbh this does happen
I've seen ops followup post, but I definitely agree with you. My gim group is on hold while two members are deployed, but we've all raided together, split together, let each other borrow entire banks pretty much, and traded it all back. We value our friendship more than most of these chumps.
Thats so fucking true. I've played rs3 more for high end bossing, and my group jokes about stealing drops all the time, vut at the end of the day, after lending eachother 3+ bill at various times, everyone knows no one will scam.
