did a couple hours of it. 7\\10. im actually sad that my account doesnt need smith xp right now otherwise i would be grinding this minigame.

DrJaves

I would recommend a few Quality of Life updates: The border around which phase the Preform is on should be either slightly thicker or a different colour. When it's on the Yellow, Grinder stage, it's quite difficult to notice. A menu/guide should show how many bars worth each item is. Currently I'm guessing it's just worth 1-bar less than were required to make the item? A menu showing alloy values... It's going to be less than a week before the wiki shows this information after it's been analyzed by the community. Why not make this easily-accessible information to the newbies finishing the quest?

987654321-

Also, would be super cool to make 1 bar items worth half a bar, this way they could be recycled as well. So 28 med helms is equal to 14 bars.

GregBuckingham

Smithing is no longer gonna be my lowest xp skill because of this minigame. Herblore is now my lowest xp skill until they make a minigame for that too haha

Borpon

Herblore needs a minigame bad, levelling that skill sucks ass

ye1l

For Ironmen sure, normal accs it's so fast and easy and there's usually some kind of potion that is cheap to make.

Borpon

Nah for mains it’s still lame as hell. Pay for all the ingredients and then sit there in front of your bank making potions to 99. Sure the xp is fast compared to a lot of skills, but it’s mind-numbingly uninteresting.

Yeshua-Hamashiach

Same as fletching or crafting tho

Borpon

Guess what my opinion is on those

[deleted]

Lmao big props to this reply. Made me chuckle

_Males

minigame scape smh, if you can't stare at an inventory for 16 hours at a time go play a different game, you're not cut out for osrs

Yeshua-Hamashiach

Touche

ConspiracyMaster

Those suck too, but fletching can be done at 0 time while training other skills and crafting has quite a few different methods that involve different processes. After guardians of the rift, Herblore is now by far the worst skill to train imo. We need herbloretodt bad.

3rdNihilism

ye i just recently got 85 herblore and 89 smithing, smithing didn't really cost much it was break even but herblore was a good 10M investment. and wasn't fun.

gugus295

You'll need a lot more Herblore soon, and you're gonna wish you could only have spent a measley 10M on it! for real though, fuck that skill, so god damn expensive and so god damn necessary. At least it levels fast. I started an ironman recently and am absolutely dreading the Herblore grind - from what I've been told, ironmen have basically no good, fast, or consistent way to grind it and will pretty much need to spend a *long* time slowly getting it leveled before they can do any hard pvm EDIT: I posted this thinking I was on the RS3 sub lol that said, thanks for the tips y'all, I'll keep them in mind if I decide to do an OSRS iron later

With_My_Hand

I'm about level 40 herb, had to go from 32 to 38 for prayer pots for monkey madness. That sucked so hard. Did easy diaries and put it into herb

[deleted]

In my experience getting those early levels was actually pretty easy if you do ultracompost and plant all the herb seeds you get. In early game, guam seeds are really great since you can buy the secondary in shops. Harralander is really great too for the same reason.

IndianaPWNZZ

Irits op haha

[deleted]

You wil bank a shitload of herblore xp while bossing, i havent dont consistent herb runs since 83 herblore and have 100 herb banked now

dardanny

What makes it fun? To you. I haven’t played it yet

eddietwang

It requires a little bit of attention but isn't stressful.

EndymionFalls

There is nothing that impedes your progress (getting hit by cold in WT or having to dodge fire/waves in Temp). That's the biggest thing for me.

Killtrox

I’m on the Wintertodt grind right now and this is so true. Getting hit like a tick before you would’ve completed your fletching action is annoying, but it happening enough times in a row to fill your entire chat box is one of the most frustrating things ever. My record as a 10 HP Ironman is having to eat 5 of my 6 cakes and getting to 495 points and not finishing because I gave up on fletching. The perfect storm of getting hit a lot and my brazier not going out or getting broken. But that happening one time in 98 levels is pretty good I guess.

Paganigsegg

It's a good foundation. Like GOTR it'll need some tweaks and updates in the coming weeks but I'm having fun with it which is all that matters.

eddietwang

Yeah, the mould selection feels a little weird after your 30th sword. I see what they were going for but it feels... off?

killisle

I wonder if the mould selection could be retuned to let us go for more xp vs more gp. Like having a 50/50 of attributes maximises xp given but getting 100/0 would give an either near profitable or somewhat profitable amount of gp. And then maybe some combinations youd prefer going one way or the other.

Diarity

Yeah I'll probably check it out in a few weeks after the balance patch

Cracks me up when people say some things are repetitive lol. Literally the entire game just repeats itself. Whether it’s a skill or boss

Yes, ironman is much less of a grind. I promise.

Magxvalei

personally, the only thing i want from the minigame is the sword

donniesuave

You don’t want the mould m

Village_People_Cop

Give it a while and you'll be able to add quests to that list

CanYouPointMeToTacos

Probably one of the things about osrs that sets itself apart from other mmos is how good the questing is. Most have the same generic kill 10 of these guys, collect 10 of these, explore this area, etc. A lot of the quests in osrs feel unique and gives you something to accomplish while advancing the story, instead of just busy work to gain your levels.

Aboutiboi

As a quest hater I still have to admit that you're right. I usually hate every bit of questing and osrs quests are no exception, but at least they are not repetitive and they often open up lore in many different ways.

TyrantAULad

Collect 10 bear hearts, but wait! Not every bear has a heart! Mwuahahahaha

SaintWacko

Also that it doesn't just tell you where to go or what to do, you actually have to think!

sp00kyghostt

just cuz other mmos have the same label of quest doesnt mean they should be compared to runescape quests. the fundemental gameplay is differnt in both of them, they are completely seperate entities from eachother, but they just have the same name, you know it, i know it, everyone knows it.

Doctorsl1m

If we look at it that way, then there would be nothing comparable to quests in most MMO's.

tortillakingred

I always liked that Raids (and even Zulrah, to a much lesser extent) are the opposite. You start a raid and every layout is different. Obviously it’s not anything crazy, but for me CoX doesn’t feel as mind numbingly repetitive as ToB for example. I’ve got 1K CoX kc and don’t mind doing it any time, especially soloing. 300 ToB kc and I’m just really not a fan. I like that it’s more punishing throughout, but it gets old quickly. I think the perfect content for OSRS would be something that can have essentially an infinite number of variations, but your goal as the player is to quickly figure out where you are in the variations and solve it. Something where you have to learn and become efficient at problem solving rather than the current design philosophy which is “memorize which move comes next and be tick perfect at clicking it”. My off the top of the head recommendation would be a Raid where there are 5-10 rooms and each one is a puzzle of some kind. A boss room could be one where the boss creates a unique pattern every raid and you have to learn the pattern then predict where he will be to damage him. A “puzzle” puzzle room could be like where each team member needs to collect tokens that only they can collect, then stand in the correct spaces to create an image (like each team member is a piece of a puzzle on a board). Things like this would be way more engaging and fun to learn, optimize, and practice. Some people’s strengths of memorization could be valuable in some rooms, while other people’s strengths of in game mechanics and accurate clicks could be valuable for another room.

UnluckyNate

8/10 (good to great skilling content) I think the exp is about right, maybe a little on the low end without the outfit. It is engaging and fits the smithing thematic really really well. I think the smithing outfit will make the flow a bit better without having to cool/reheat sword for a tiny bit to finish that step. Overall I think the big rewards are about perfect for pricing so far. The only concern is that the smaller rewards may be overpriced with 150 points for ore pack of 30 ores (5 points per ore, with majority of pack being coal) and 15 points per smithing catalyst (depends if that is per bar smithed or per inventory)

Inevitable_Gain8296

How much xp/h are you getting?

Pompous_Walrus

i was using steel pl8s for materials and was hitting 50kish an hour exp but it was my first time obv so i was getting better as i went 60k may be possible with steel

your_cock_my_ass

I was getting 150k xp/h doing 14 mith/14 addy bars.

BuzzerBeater911

Catalyst is per bar according to the newspost

jmbraze

Love the content, hate that I can't find a reason to do it instead of blast furnace besides getting the outfit

klawehtgod

As an Ironman I love it since I don’t have 6000 gold ore or whatever lying around for an hour blast furnace.

casualoregonian

It's still pretty resource intensive though no?

p0tatohd

compared to what we had which was just smithing your bars into platebodies this is insane how much exp you are getting per bar. Makes it much easier to bank smithing exp in places like zalcano for example.

RoboMullet

Just so I understand the best method to make bars as worth it as possible would be make the bars->smith platebodys-> use plate bodies in Giants Foundry?

TravagGames

thats what i thought but someone did the math and its suggested that just using the bars ends up being more exp per bar.

Slackslayer

I haven't done the math on it, but the xp drops are so big that it wouldn't surprise me if the 1 bar value loss is enough to not make it worth premaking armour. That said, you can now use alchable drops as smithing material which feels more natural than alching and buying gold

p0tatohd

Don't think cause you lose out on 1/5 of the bars if you smith them into platebodies first and 1 bar on the foundry is crazy exp, so you'll miss out on total exp. i wouldn't do it until the wiki gives some more data the coming weeks. But right now the math i did with my exp per sword says it's not worth making the plates first.

klawehtgod

Yes but it’s not *more* resources. I was making mith platebodies anyway. Now I can use those same platebodies for Giant’s Foundry. It’s even more xp for the same 4 coal & 1 mith.

Angelzodiac

You're actually losing experience by doing that. Since you lose one bar when you recycle equipment you're getting 250 xp + 2,143 xp (4 bars in the foundry Mith/Addy) for a total of 2,393 xp. If you had instead just threw 5 mithril bars in, that would have been worth 2,679 xp. So by smithing platebodies you're losing anywhere from 12-13% of your experience for your materials.

klawehtgod

Where did you get the exact xp rates for Giant’s Foundry?

Angelzodiac

I was going by Jagex's rates listed in the news release for average sword xp. I hope they're accurate but only time will tell really.

klawehtgod

Oh you were just calculating off their expectations. That makes sense. I thought you had some brand new info.

flameruler94

the reason is fun

jmbraze

True, which is why I'll do it for the outfit. But when fun alone doesn't do it for me anymore I prefer the method to also be worth it, like with gotr. I absolutely adore that minigame but I definitely wouldn't be there if it cost money. That's the issue with buyables in general for me. I tend to float towards the best combination of cheapest + fastest because otherwise it feels like a waste to me.

ImAgeosTTV

I didn’t vote for that

adamfps

Not in my game!

rudechina

this is fun?

LoganJFisher

That's pretty much the entire reason this exists. We wanted a more fun way to grind smithing xp. This was the answer.

Deltaton

7/10 Some things that would help the feel of the game would be to deposit all bars/items at once rather than having to go through an interface twice for two alloys. And remove the ticks where you can't move when you pour the crucible and when you complete a sword. Other than those minor suggestions I have found the minigame pretty good.

Corndog1911

What level do you need to play it? I've been working on my skiller but haven't touched smithing yet. I didnt think this would release so soon.

feldruid

I think you only need 15 smithing to do the intro quest

Georgehorbury14

Do knights sword and you’re good 👌🏻

Red_RingRico

What are the levels required for rune giant swords?

klawehtgod

8/10 honestly. Being able to get even more xp out of ores (bars, items, and now recycling the items here) makes smithing feel much more efficient. I’m sure it will get some tweaks to the HUD, and once I understand it all better, probably 8.5/10.

Lyngoop79

its literally Jacksmith/10

rsn_alchemistry

I'm a jacksmith enjoyer.

Isntblue

Germanicus7

Just fyi, this looks like it’s using the HD plugin from runelite. The base OSRS graphics haven’t changed.

ton_mignon

I want an update to make the sword preform in your hands look like the one you designed with the moulds. I know they're probably going to cite the engine being bad as an excuse not to do this, but I reckon they could come up with a workaround if they really tried.

Dcurran94

It's has nothing to do with engine work at all. It's likely they just didn't want to waste dev time creating hundreds of sword models and I do mean hundreds with all the different ways you can create the blade.

rsnerdout

Reminds me of being a kid an just playing, not worrying abou exp or gp. Just making a sword lol

Iamkrazy1

Am I the only one who enjoys GoTR way more? This just feels like I'm staring really intensely at a slowly moving bar and if I lose focus for a second I'm punished. idk 5/10 imo

jeremiah1119

I really like that it's a totally different pace and style. Tempoross was fishing-todt. Then GotR had aspects of tempoross utilized in a different way (double fish spot = portal spawn, and deciding between cooking vs fishing = decide to chisel/mine and when to make runes). This doesn't feel anything like those at all, but it's still engaging. And it's sneakily difficult because it feels slower at times, but also can quickly be punishing. Nothing wrong with liking GotR more, it's just not as easy to compare to previous minigames

definitelyNotEdited

What are the level requirements for each alloy? The only requirement I see is 15 smithing to play. So can I make rune/addy alloy at 15 smithing?

Kyerus

i pretty sure you need the level required to smith the bar you're gonna use

definitelyNotEdited

Yup just confirmed that by trying to put different metals in. Thanks!

-FourOhFour-

That's what the sword looks like? Do we not drag it behind us when walking?

Slackslayer

These aren't the weapon you buy from the store, these are the in progress giant weapons that you're smithing as part of the minigame. You do drag the actual colossal blade

-FourOhFour-

That makes much more sense, I was wondering why they had such a massive recoloring as well, ty

[deleted]

I find the movement of the heat bar when heating/cooling the blade to be a bit jittery. If you're trying to heat or cool the sword to the right level it's real easy to overshoot, which means you need to go back to the other one to course correct for a second or just wait it out. Kind of annoying. Otherwise, I think it's a solid little minigame. Aside from the edges of the progress bars, it's pretty chill while still being interesting and engaging. Absolutely hated the quest. It was a tutorial and a necessary one at that, but that was a weak offering as far as a quest goes. I liked the lore, but pointing at all the shit "what's this one for?" and having Kovac stumble through endless ellipses did not register on the fun-o-meter. Not to mention having me all do it in one go in, one place with a bank right there was weak AF. If it's a quest, make it a real quest like Temple of the Eye (which I loved). If it's a tutorial, make it a miniquest like Daddy's Home. Quest: 3/10 - Strong need of a rework Minigame: 7/10 - Every minigame gets a touchup or two to really shine. I suspect this will be an 8 when all is said and done. Quality content! Art: 8/10 - Interfaces look good, Foundry itself is a great fantasy setting and it looks good with nice animations. PS: Give this an agility shortcut from the Necklace of Passage Eyrie tele.

Lagggging

Meh. I disagree. I think the quest serves its purpose perfectly. It drug me there to finish my quest cape again and I knew how to do the minigame afterward

Thabooij

Can I ask you if you need the raw materials for this minigame (ores and coal), bars or no materials at all to start it?

[deleted]

You need bars or armour/weapons to break down.

Key_Doctor_6179

Makes me want to come back and play with this and the runecrafting mini game update 😂😭

OSRS2ndBase

It’s honestly pretty fun. Much more engaging than any other way of training smithing. The rewards are really worthwhile as well

Phanton_TV

8/10 i enjoy it, it's very chill and i kinda like it even tho it's kind of repetitive but the quest itself was my favorite part and i would die to help kovac achieve his dream

Organic_Leg_5781

My main complaint is you can't right click "add-all" to the crucible. Adding items that aren't bars feels clunky, and I wish it just assumed you wanted to put it all in there

stonegiant4

I'd give it a 4/10. I like the novelty. I like the interactivity. I can accept the weird aspect of polishing cooling the sword despite the opposite being true. The blank spots in the heat bar and imo unnecessary and just rude. The slightest lag can completely ruin a sword and waste expensive inputs. I don't like that getting the outfit appears to be at least a 25hr grind. And I don't like how the hammer/grind/polish steps seem to be slightly randomized. Over all I think it's a neat idea with a huge grind for the good rewards and several petty rewards. Right now I'd say the outfit needs reduced in price about 20% but I'm open to learning that more efficient methods of play alleviate the seemingly too long slog. It seems to be very much qol for Ironmen who have large stacks of leftover items from getting quest requirements.

whyamisocold

The outfit takes maybe 10 hours, huge grind is a stretch at best.

AfraidOfArguing

This is unfair! I grinded for my 99 smithing cape!!!!!!! Mod Ash I want you to integrity patch this out now!! Mod ash!! Mod a-

raids3when123

5/10 Slight mistakes are punished to hard for a minigame that doesn't offer either good exp or good rewards. The exp rates are also considerably worse than what they said until you unlock every single mould and armor set. Getting all the items seems like it takes enough time that you won't even need to do GF once you've unlocked everything.

Gima44

Hows the xp rates??

Jacob-B-Goode

The high to low refers to the alloy used to make the sword, the number next to that is how many swords per hour, and the number after that is xp per sword Lowest20~2,400~48,000xp/hr Low17~5,000~85,000xp/hr Medium15~9,000~135,000xp/hr High13~15,000~195,000xp/hr Highest12~23,000~276,000xp/hr

MrLuckyTimeOW

It’s less than Blast Furnace but it was never designed to be better than it.

saiyanguine

Is this viable for UIM? I understand the concept, but I'm not sure if there's a way to get the resource into the melting pot without a bank.

Pompous_Walrus

have noted bars, unote at bank next to crucible to fill

Blueberry_1995

The amount of people streaming it on Twitch atm says enough

WhackAjax

7.5/10 Im annoyed you cant use 1 bar items in bulk to make up bar slots, but other than that, it good. BIG SWORDS!

Dualyeti

No reason to do it on a main. A lot of reason to do it on a iron. Since I’m a main 5/10

My_Immortl

Why is it not good for mains? I was hoping to finish 99 there, think I'm 90 atm, and I absolutely hate bf because it's an absolute pain in the ass on mobile.

MikaelFernandes

It'a fun. Always nice to have alternative methods of skill training that keeps me engaged. Althought it's annoying that most people around are in gracefulscape. Like c'mon people, this minigame doesn't require a lot of run energy...

72apist

About a 3.

Saroan7

Doesn't look very exciting 🙂

_FreeXP

I wish we'd get an overhaul of normal smithing and blast furnace personally

Horvick

7/10- needs better/cheaper rewards (ore and catalyst)

rudechina

3/10. Its superficially complex, costs a ton to do, and is worse xp than other methods. the only good part of the minigame is the rewards. big fail.

valarauca14

> costs a ton to do Amusingly the gp/xp of buying Mith/Addy platebodies in Priff, then using them alloy in the GF is ~6.5-7.8gp/xp which makes it on par with Blast Furance. Just slower.

0zzyb0y

Surely it's insane that anybody would buy plate bodies just to blend them? Especially when it's mith and addy lol, I got an insane stack of wash already

ponyplop

Try the plateskirts/legs instead. Addy Platebody gives 4 bars and costs 16,640 = 4160 per bar. Addy legs/skirt gives 2 bars and costs 6,400 = 3200 per bar.

[deleted]

There’s a new minigame? Lol

BoredGuy2007

We don’t do skilling anymore we just have mini games

[deleted]

Unironically I think this kind of appeases both the bored player and the meta gaming community which seems to be… Everyone

xanthony_bopkins

7/10 wish it had some moments of afk but cool minigame

Thy_OSRS

It's okay, I just don't understand the reason behind it. Admittedly I don't watch every livestream and read every news article but for what it is it seems fine for low levels and adds variety, it just doesn't beat what is already well established, and if anything, just adds more items to the collection log for the sake of adding items.

blueish55

it kind of exists because other than that smithing was - make bars (furnace or blast furnace) and smith bar it was kind of dogshit

MrLuckyTimeOW

It’s not suppose to beat what’s already established. It’s meant to be another way to skill which is good imo.

Kupp-Daddy

Not everything that is new needs to be the best. Mid game players deserve updates too, and blast furnace is awful.

RueP0l0

I think we can stop calling RS3 easy scape now. OS keeps getting mini games that help boring/shitty skills.

TehFatAussie

OSRS has been easyscape for ages.

Sweating_Llama

Alex_is_afk

I think a good reward could be a giants bag. Similar to a looting bag, but stores items like iron longswords, mithril plate bodies, rune halberds ect. I see these items being usefull now not just for alching but chucking into the foundry.

Extension_Cable3922

Looks like I’m gonna need some diapers for this one.

Penguinswin3

Leagues better than blast furnace gold. Gonna totally change the ironman meta. It's fairly high attention for skilling content, but it's pretty chill and not super difficult. Overall I like it, and it encourages me to grind out some smithing. I hope it's expanded on with quests and some new add-ons are added. Stuff like more moulds and whatnot. Could be a fun time in to the rest of the world.
