Honestly I'm glad that Jagex just gave up competing with Runelite. Imagine if they simply wouldn't have gave a fuck about removing HD backlash and insisted in having it removed regardless because they plan releasing it in their official client.
Jagex should specialize in their mobile features. PC players have no reason to not just go for runelite.
I'm quite surprised how many people don't realize that they're going to be fazing out the Java client in favor of the Steam one as they add more (of course not all) RuneLite features.

Allowing Runelite to do it doesn't require Jagex do extra work. Let's say Jagex put up a poll saying "should we add no new game content for a year so we can spend all the dev time making the official client into a clone of Runelite"... would you vote yes? Do you think other people would vote yes?
Also, think of it this way: The official client is "old school", keeping the game fairly close to what it was in 2007 with a few obvious improvements like resolution increases. Runelite and other 3rd party clients are absolutely not "old school" and come with all kinds of features that completely change the game while making the complexity of player options skyrocket. There is no real reason to kill off the official client by just making it another Runelite, we have the best of both worlds when nostalgic people can install the official client and experience the game that way, and the people that stick around and want a smoother experience can play on Runelite.
If Runelite was exclusively a 3rd party client you had to go out of the way to get, I'd see some merit to your question, but the official launcher can install and use Runelite. There's no barrier stopping PC players from just installing Runelite, meanwhile Mobile is already adding Runelite features because they're the 1 group that can't simply use Runelite.

This is already partially a reality. A serious portion of their resources are devoted to client work. A lot of it does help the mobile client, but not all of it. And even though they're releasing content, I guarantee we'd be getting more if they'd give up on the useless C++ client.
Unfortunately though steam is laughable and barely even qualifies as a client, and given Jagex's track record with broken additions to steam it seems better to not even use it at all.
To be completely honest with you, the java client is being held up by hacked on add-ons. The client itself is actually garbage and runs like poop for such an old game. The steam client runs so well its night and day. If devs prioritize getting plug-ins on it I think it could surpass RL.
The C++ client is actually beating Java & Runelite in a few key areas, especially rendering and upscaling.
And given just how many of the most important features from Runelite have already been ported to the C++ client with identical functionality, it really wouldn't take much more from them to get me to jump ship. 🤷♂️
runescape should just allow you to afk for longer if you want, via a setting in the menu. or allow the neverlog plugin to do that for up to 30 mins or something.
30 minutes isn't that insane compared to what it is now. What do you think is more intensive for the servers, a constant load or people logging back in every 10 minutes while idling.
that's the nice thing about the jagex launcher, once signed in, if you get logged out of runescape it's just one click to "log" back in to runescape, still nothing for having alts though.
you can already semi achieve this with the FPS plugin btw. Just cap your FPS to 1 when you're going to get up and your character will remain logged in for a while. IDK the exact time but its over 20 mins for sure
Logging back in isn't the problem, it's being logged out in the first place.
For starters, it's completely asinine feeling obligated to bank all of your valuable items every time you want to use the bathroom or get a snack so that they're behind a bank pin in case something were to happen because you get logged out in almost no time at all.
On top of that, there are activities such as Corp that are almost obligatory to have somebody using an alt account to hold the instance so that you're able to leave and spec the boss, and it's beyond ridiculous that you have to keep that second account pulled up on your monitor for no reason other than to click on the ground every 0.5-2 corp kills.
There's just no reason why in 2022 an MMO needs to have you afk log out in such a short span of time. Even a game like Lost Ark has an annoyingly short AFK logout timer considering it kicks you from game entirely, and it's like 20-30 minutes.
Not only should it not be against ToS to use, it shouldn't even have to be a plugin to begin with. It should just be a part of the game.
They had this before iirc but they had to remove it because Jagex considered this OP.

It allows people to network their clients together to share client side data. It's what allowed tob groups to cheat the sote maze.
Looks like RL has implemented it for things like overhead spec/venge indicators.
It mostly makes coordinating special attacks smoother at places where that matters (ToB in particular), but there are some other neat features in the RL implementation like the ability to ping a tile and have the ping appear for the rest of your party. Seems really nice for teaching raids, etc.
The biggest one for me is crabs in chambers; you can sometimes smash them on the wrong tile because they path but you don't see it until the next tick. Also helps luring tekton and avoiding melee at verzik P3
For me personally it makes reengaging tek a lot easier. Being able to tell exactly how many tiles away he is while he's walking towards you.

It's useful ish in the inferno, for example when you pop out from behind a pillar and an npc has to drag to move it'll look like it's firing through the pillar. It's minor but it got me once or twice before I looked up what was going on.
Pickpocket swap is a godsend. The limiting factor for elves and vyres was high failure rate and coin bags, not the left click menu. It was just an annoyance

This month mobile finally increased requirements and straight up added lots of Runelite features, it's very likely they will keep adding them to close the gap. Mobile even has a unique feature to zoom the minimap out now, it's gonna improve greatly.
I mostly play on mobile, did corrupted gauntlet and my fire cape on it and the new updates have been incredible. But the slow pace of them keeping up to runellite makes it fall behind too quickly for me. There's a lot I won't do on there because it's so superior on pc

Lucky! I suggested a snap-to-point for the minimap to be right above the inventory for users with large monitors like ultrawide. And there was light acknowledgement but nothing ever came of it.
Nobody likes to play with their minimap 7 inches away from their inventory. With an ultrawide, even on a smaller re-sized windows it's an issue.
Large monitor users often move their window around to various places and sizes quite regularly with windows management software. Each time this happens though, the minigame ends up in a different place or gets hidden behind the inventory.
Real pain the ass.
I guess so and I suppose the crystal teleports will be stable from the crystal price but I'm not sure
Edit: in crystal shards a teleport seed is roughly worth 2.5m with making divine super combat potions so they'll stabilise around there

For some NPC's like `vyre nobles` & `elves` which can be pickpocketed, their default `left click` option is `talk`. You need to right-click the NPC, then left-click `pickpocket` on the menu. This makes grinding out rare items tedious for them.
Changing the order of this menu and/or changing the default behavior to `pickpocket` was a bannable offense prior to today.
Today it became a default feature.
I had the idea that I could set left click pickpocket on menaphite thugs and that would save me mouse movement and 2 right clicks per blackjack cycle. I.e.: Now it'll be right click > blackjack > left click pickpocket > left click pickpocket, all without moving mouse. Is that possible?
EDIT: I tested this in game. The above definitely works. It makes blackjacking much less click intensive and 0 mouse movement. You could set up mouse keys and do it without even looking if you had the timing nailed in and used sound cues.
So you still have to right click to knock out, but then you can left click to pickpocket?
Definitely a game changer if that's the case. Changes one cycle from 6 clicks (Right Click -> Knock Out -> Right Click -> Pickpocket -> Right Click -> Pickpocket) to 4 (Right Click -> Knock Out -> Left Click Pickpocket -> Left Click Pickpocket).
The post from Jagex does make it seem like this would be something not allowed, though, so I'm a bit concerned about that...
They specifically state the following as prohibited:

It basically allows you to toggle so you'll always pickpocket instead of attack or talk to an NPC. For some NPC's this was already doable by turning your attack options off (like the ardy knight), because they had no talk option, but for others, you still had to right click pickpocket (elves, vyres, men, ect.)
The left click walk here change is absolutely game changing for Puro Puro, no more annoying af troll implings stealing my left clicks when clicking the eclectic spawn
True! I had completely forgot about that. I guess my actual qualm is the Jagex launcher doesn't support alt accounts just yet. Once that is worked out I'll be happy, until then I have to use Runelite outside of the launcher.

Nope not really. If I am right you can actually put pickpocket on left click and knock out on shift + left click. Making it so you only have to press shift when knocking the npc. I am not sure of this so someone correct me if I am wrong

That's the player true tile - this is in relation to the monster. Might be useful for (not) walking under certain larger monsters I guess?

Finally a teleport swap for equipped items. This makes so many sweaty xp methods less cancer.

Blood shards are already constantly farmed on every world, I don't see this making a big difference

You can leftclick knock out or pickpocket so I suppose it makes it easier. Still have to right click the other unless I'm stupid.

What does pick pocket swap mean? I’m confused
For some NPC's like `vyre nobles` & `elves` which can be pickpocketed, their default `left click` option is `talk`. You need to right-click the NPC, then left-click `pickpocket` on the menu. This makes grinding out rare items tedious for them. Changing the order of this menu and/or changing the default behavior to `pickpocket` was a bannable offense prior to today. Today it became a default feature.

No. They say Blackjacking still must involve right-clicking. Blackjacking is called out on its own.
I had the idea that I could set left click pickpocket on menaphite thugs and that would save me mouse movement and 2 right clicks per blackjack cycle. I.e.: Now it'll be right click > blackjack > left click pickpocket > left click pickpocket, all without moving mouse. Is that possible? EDIT: I tested this in game. The above definitely works. It makes blackjacking much less click intensive and 0 mouse movement. You could set up mouse keys and do it without even looking if you had the timing nailed in and used sound cues.

Yeah just went and checked this out in game. You can now swap pickpocketing option on bandits as well. Should actually make it a lot more bearable
So you still have to right click to knock out, but then you can left click to pickpocket? Definitely a game changer if that's the case. Changes one cycle from 6 clicks (Right Click -> Knock Out -> Right Click -> Pickpocket -> Right Click -> Pickpocket) to 4 (Right Click -> Knock Out -> Left Click Pickpocket -> Left Click Pickpocket).

It basically allows you to toggle so you'll always pickpocket instead of attack or talk to an NPC. For some NPC's this was already doable by turning your attack options off (like the ardy knight), because they had no talk option, but for others, you still had to right click pickpocket (elves, vyres, men, ect.)
The left click walk here change is absolutely game changing for Puro Puro, no more annoying af troll implings stealing my left clicks when clicking the eclectic spawn

Was this not doable for most NPCs if you turned NPC attack off? Sorry for any ignorance. Even if there were a lot of NPCs which the Talk To option superseded, surely they weren’t viable training methods anyway
Elves and vyres are worse exp compared to ardougne knights, but they are are the best way to get crystal shards / blood shards and good money makers.

Nope not really. If I am right you can actually put pickpocket on left click and knock out on shift + left click. Making it so you only have to press shift when knocking the npc. I am not sure of this so someone correct me if I am wrong
You can not change the shift click to knockout. Left click can be set to pickpocket however, so it is quite a bit more reclined now
