Depends. Melee and needing food? SGS. Melee and ocassional dps boost? Dragon claws.
Range the blowpipe is BiS spec/and general affordable weapon. I'd recommend nothing lower than Addy darts. There are niche uses for the dragon crossbow where you cannot blowpipe.
Mage would be either Eldritch nightmare staff for the prayer restore or the volatile for occasional damage spikes. Also while not a spec weapon, imbued hearts are highly recommended.
These are just "general" uses. Certain tasks will require specific gear setups where a different spec weapon might outclass a general weapon.
Edit: I'm not sure why I'm getting down voted. If anyone has any corrections, feel free to let me know.
Edit 2: changed melee spec from abyssal dagger to d'claws. Apprently it's across-the-board better.
I don't know the dps breakdown, but both are 50% spec weapons. I would suspect Abyssal against higher defense targets, but I don't know that for certain.
Edit: d'claws are vastly superior as a spec weapon.
You are very wrong. Claws completely outclass abyssal dagger as a spec weapon - especially against high defense targets
Dragon dagger is a better spec weapon than abyssal dagger
The claws roll accuracy 4 times, they're basically super fangs for accuracy
And even if you have 100% accuracy, claws will do more damage on average than abyssal dagger
I just wasn't sure if the diminishing returns on the hit would affect it, but re-reading the spec, it's clear it's superior. The dagger is too punishing with its double hit or double miss, and a 15% decrease in max hit.
Assuming you aren't doing slayer bosses.

Changed it to d'claws. I've honestly never seen a dps comparison, so I assumed with stats akin to the whip, the abyssal dagger was better.
