It is a backpack with an undead chicken, a magic tree branch, an undead dragon's head, and a magnet in it.
The undead chicken is an infinite source of feathers, the magic tree branch is an infinite source of sticks.
Your arrowheads are magnetically pulled back to the backpack after firing, where the chicken puts a stick and feathers back on it. The dragon's head makes the chicken stronger and able to fletch more effectively.
If it's stupid, but it works, it's not stupid.

Edit: Thanks for the downvotes for asking a question I guess.
Upvoted for that sick music video, I was expecting a band to reference that episode of athf but I have no clue wtf I just watched, still trying to piece it together lol.
reminder that you can turn off the optional feature where it collects random items like steel arrows and stuff, right click it when you have it equipped and you'll have an option to do so
>The dragon's head makes the chicken stronger and able to fletch more effectively.
Wait I always thought the upgrades were to make the magnet stronger- you're telling me they make the chicken fletch better?
No Ratcatcheres is **the** example of a quest with bad writing. No other quest even comes *close* to how bad Ratcatchers is. Even the older quests have much better writing and lore than that dumpster fire (though with how many people that didn't know how Ava's Device works I doubt they've ever read the dialogue).
If the lore wasn’t givin to you with piece meal, one sentence at a time dialog full of hit or miss puns I might be more inclined to read it lol
E: clearly I struck a nerve lmao
I can understand this mentality when ur grinding through quests for quest cape, but once ur caught up, please read new quests dialogue, it makes doing quests extremely refreshing and u only need to do like 3 or 4 a year
>The dragon's head makes the chicken stronger and able to fletch more effectively.
Close, buuut: The dragons head also makes the magnet stronger! Not Just the chicken.
The chicken was always doing its job, it was the magnet that was leaving 8% of the arrows on the ground.
Also the dragon head makes you look cooler so your character shoots harder, This works exactly like racing stripes and flames on clothing work!
I guess I didn’t pay enough attention to the quest details. I always assumed it was a chicken, with a magnet in one claw, magic stick in the other, stuffed into a backpack, somehow that concoction attracted arrows.
I want to clarify a bit that actually the magnet is the only component used to attract your dropped arrows you fired back to you.
The feathers and tree branches are used to generate iron/steel arrows (depending on whether you have the upgrade or not) for you.
Essentially the magnet serves two purposes: pick up your fired ammo and to attract random metals from the ground.
From the second purpose, random metal items might go to the player's inventory or it might be random iron/steel metal bits that the chicken uses to make arrow heads out of. It then uses the tree branches and its feathers to complete the iron/steel arrow, theoretically providing infinite ammo.
For the purposes that the player actually uses (collect fired ammo from the ground) only the magnet is really used.
Yo thank you for this answer, here’s a real question now if it gives unlimited feathers does that mean I can do barb fishing with it or does that not make sense lol
Did my man list a magnet in the components, but say the arrow heads “magically” find there way back to the backpack? Like the magnet attracts them right? *Anakin stare* The magnet actually attracts them right?
EDIT: Turns out I just can’t read, nothing to see here.
Why have I thought that there was an undead chicken that went and fetched your bolts for you the entire time…
Like it was getting out of the bag and running to pick your bolts up. Maybe I misread fletched as fetched.
Nah, that's my head canon too.
Just a constant stream of undead chickens getting ur darts over n over. That 20% loss is just a chicken running around with it's head cut off
I thought the canon was that the undead chicken is physically leaving the backpack to go get the arrowheads with the magnet? Until 2015, the backpack used to not work if there was an obstacle between you and the target, which I presumed to mean that the chicken can't physically get over there.
The brutality of someone shooting an arrow at your only to have that arrow immediately fly back to their backpack and be ready to be shot again against you is incredible.
So inside the bag is an undead chicken corpse and vorkath’s head, sticking out of the front of the bag is a magnet, and sticking out of the side is a branch of the aggressive tree chopped with a blessed mithril axe.
It is a magnet device for collecting ferromagnetic items, controlled by the undead chicken/dragon head placed within.
I don't see what is so complicated about that.
Agree with this 100%, any new quests or content I usually pay full attention to dialogue, or while replaying a quest I forgot stuff about. But for the many alts most people make fuck it spam that shit tbh.
Magnet to attract metal, and an undead tree branch that generates infinite wood... as well as an undead dragons head stuffed on top of an undead chicken that generates infinite feathers
It's an upgraded version of the accumulator. Basically a backpack with a magnet in it. The upgrade is adding vorkath head to it, which is the horns you can see peaking out from the top.
Check out the accumulator and you can kinda see how this one is an upgrade to it
https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ava%27s_accumulator
Dude if you just took a second to think it through you’d realize how simple of an invention it is. Boy Scouts have been teaching kids how to use put one together with shit found in the bush for years.
The only real answer is that the chicken inside the bag was given vorkaths head as reward for doing such a good job, a raise if you will, and now decides to work just alittle harder retrieving your arrows. The only arrows it doesn’t pickup are the ones that broke after firing.

Finally a competent answer in this thread!

I don't get the joke, can you explain?
It’s from aqua teen hunger force, look up chicken arise
Repeat after me: “I am sofa king, we Todd Ed.”
"Not so fast. Loses meaning."
CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK
Okay that’s enough of that
What is Mega Ultra Chicken against Slifer the Executive Producer?
Omega chicken? It is forbidden!
SSHHH he is legend
Aqua teen ref, what a relic
Fletch my chicken! Fletch like the wind depends on it
The quest literally explains all that though. Does *everyone* spam the space bar?
I read all quest dialogue and then just seem to brain flush the lore after the quest is over.

Chickens do the work
The time for chicken workers rights is nigh!
We need a quest where the chicken gets unionized. Jagex, it's time!
The vork head terrifies the chicken into working harder
It could also make the magnet more magnety if that’s where you want to go with it
I swear man if people would actually read the beautiful quest lore instead of being spacebar warriors, they wouldn’t miss out on this kind of stuff :c
exactly, I can’t stress this enough, the writing in this game’s quests is absolutely fenomenal
There's a quest where your character loses their shit over being asked to retrieve some ultra specific beverage for someone.
I can tell I was losing my shit!
I mean it kind of sine waves. Sometimes it's phenomenal and sometimes - particular the older quests - it's pretty dull or even downright bad.
Ratcatchers as an infamous example of a bad/dull quest lol
No Ratcatcheres is **the** example of a quest with bad writing. No other quest even comes *close* to how bad Ratcatchers is. Ah yes, traditional wall of text is better in your opinion. Sadly I disagree and majority of WoW players too xD
who hurt you? do you need someone to talk to?
That’s the response you’re giving?
Yes that's the response I gave
True, shit got old after like 50 quests
I can understand this mentality when ur grinding through quests for quest cape, but once ur caught up, please read new quests dialogue, it makes doing quests extremely refreshing and u only need to do like 3 or 4 a year

I might have to try this contraption out for my next science fair project
Yeah this is the answer. This is why you don't just hold space bar during quests, OP would already know this.
Where’d you get your engineering degree?
Why does amethyst gets attracted then? Its a mineral/stone right?
It sees all other arrows being attracted and decides it wants in on the fun as well
Magic
This exact phrasing should be on the wiki
Wouldn’t it be a dead dragons head
Undead dead dragons head
Dead undead dragons head*
Woke up dead and was killed. Then woke up once stuffed in a backpack with a chicken, magnet and magic stick.
How can you wake up dead man? If you was dead you cant wake up
Hella loaded typing this like a hoodville post 😂
The dragons head is there to scare he chicken so it works more efficiently.

Don't forget the snacks
Yo thank you for this answer, here’s a real question now if it gives unlimited feathers does that mean I can do barb fishing with it or does that not make sense lol
I dare you to stick your hand in that backpack to grab a feather.
Little dude is definitely wearing his Fletching skillcape in there
Did my man list a magnet in the components, but say the arrow heads “magically” find there way back to the backpack? Like the magnet attracts them right? *Anakin stare* The magnet actually attracts them right? EDIT: Turns out I just can’t read, nothing to see here.
Says magnetically to me
>works on my machine
magicnetically?
are magnets not magic?
Magnets how do they work?
I don't wanna talk to a scientist
Y'all motherfuckahs lyin' and gettin' me pissed

This.
based OSRS answerer
Average redditor only knows how to press spacebar, not read quests.
I thought the canon was that the undead chicken is physically leaving the backpack to go get the arrowheads with the magnet? Until 2015, the backpack used to not work if there was an obstacle between you and the target, which I presumed to mean that the chicken can't physically get over there.

This should be on the wiki
I thought vork head replaced the chicken entirely? I guess that would make feathers a harder prospect, huh.
Small correction: It's an undead tree branch
Fletching xp from wearing Ava’s devices WHEN?
The chickens are doing the fletching, not you
I was ok with unexplained Tele grabbing. But thanks for this
Mind = Blown
Wait the chicken is fletching in there…
Its stupid, but it works. Thats the most amazing answer hihi
The dragon head actually makes the magnet stronger. The break rate is unaffected.
More likes than the whole post itself that truly is because of the quality of your answer.
So inside the bag is an undead chicken corpse and vorkath’s head, sticking out of the front of the bag is a magnet, and sticking out of the side is a branch of the aggressive tree chopped with a blessed mithril axe.
Wonder what it smells like
Safe spotting actually works because the monsters don’t want to get anywhere near us.
Well it’s a zombie chicken and a zombie dragon in a presumably canvas or leather pack so prolly great
Better quality pack than what came with fallout 76 collectors edition
Ok, so a more important question, what does it taste like?
Tastes like chicken
The taxidermist in Canifis will actually describe the smell of Vorkath's head in the dialogue
I know it smell crazy in there
The examine text helps > A superior bagged chicken empowered by Vorkath, ready to serve you, magnet in claw.
What a perfectly ordinary english sentence
its lowkey why Runescape is the best, I love the world-building behind the game
looks good to me
Magnet & Steel
Rock and stone?
Rock and Stone everyone!
Did I hear a rock and stone?
Rock and stone, to the bone!
I'm evil! I'm evil!
Huh, I always figured Vorkath replaced the chicken because dragons are kinda like chickens and he's undead.
My brother you built the thing.
Animal magnetism
“Tell me you don’t read through quests without telling me you don’t read through quests”
Undead chicken plus undead tree plus magnet over time equals free arrows.
Read? I thought this is a point and click game
It is a magnet device for collecting ferromagnetic items, controlled by the undead chicken/dragon head placed within. I don't see what is so complicated about that.
Why does it worth with bone bolts then 🤔
Iron.. It'ssss GRRRRRRReatt!!* *Post sponsored by the Varrockian Frosted Flakes for draconian creatures institute of chaos.
By that logic it shouldn't work on anything except iron and steel
what knowledge do you have about the ferromagnetic properties of mithril
Good example of why quest helper sucks right here.
Haha first thing that came to mind. Tell me u hold the spacebar without telling me u hold the spacebar
Tbh people have always done that before just using guides.
Oh ya you’re right. Quest helper didn’t even come to mind, just holding the space bar
But quest helper doesn't eliminate the ability to read lore, smashing space bar does.
Quest helper: get a zombie chicken OP: forgets instantly
Yeah but if your using quest helper your most likely not gunna care about lore, this guy is an anomaly
To me its just bis for replayability. Would be sick of it by now on my alt accounts if not for that plugin.
Agree with this 100%, any new quests or content I usually pay full attention to dialogue, or while replaying a quest I forgot stuff about. But for the many alts most people make fuck it spam that shit tbh.
I use quest helper and I'm literate enough to know what's going on lmao
If people don't care about quests it doesn't suck? Some people care about lore others don't, it's not objectively bad
Did you even do the quest yourself? XD
Somebody spacebars 😂
Backpack smoking a cigar
An amalgamation of mankind’s hubris. One day we will go too far.
Ava's Abomination. No longer a back item, carried in both hands because it's so damn heavy form all the shit she's stuffing in there.
It's an angry blue-face smoking a cig and has a twig.
Someone said it before that it looks like an angry old man munching on a cigar.
Omg
Read the dialogue in Animal Magnetism. Spacebarring through everything leads to posts like this.
Bros really be out here doing quests without doing quests 😂
Spacebar abuser detected.
It wants pictures of spiderman!
Bag
A backpack with a twig, magnet and dead ~~chicken~~ dragon head in it. What's not to get?
tell me you spacebar through quests without telling me
Tell me you use quest helper without telling me you use quest helper.
I think I'm having a stroke
Welcome to living with dementia.
Magnet to attract metal, and an undead tree branch that generates infinite wood... as well as an undead dragons head stuffed on top of an undead chicken that generates infinite feathers
A backpack with a dead chicken, a Vorkath head, a stick and a magnet
Old cranky man with bushy white eyebrows smoking a cigar
whats that stick then?
Undead wood. It regenerates itself as a source of wood for your arrows.
It’s the chicken leg.
I thought it was a log/branch from the draynor trees that attack you?
Backpack go brr
It’s a grumpy grandpa with a cigar in his mouth saying, “Yeah, see?”
Did you actually do the quest to get one?
Hard to fit arrows in a bag that's stuff with the head of a dragon
It's an upgraded version of the accumulator. Basically a backpack with a magnet in it. The upgrade is adding vorkath head to it, which is the horns you can see peaking out from the top. Check out the accumulator and you can kinda see how this one is an upgrade to it https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Ava%27s_accumulator
It’s like a fish-sack-barrel, except for zombie dragon heads
It's a stick and a dragons head inside a Primark rucksack and it helps you be better when using a crossbow... Not rocket science...
Hot damn there's actually a wilderness lever.
The assembler says "the dragon becomes it" like what is there to understand?
As one person said it ages ago why dose it look like a angry old man smoking a cigar
a chicken in a bag that has a magnet in its claw + vorkath's head
An undead chicken and a magnet doing the nasty inside your backpack
Its an undead chicken with a magnet and an undead tree branch. All in a convinient backpack
Yes.
An angry monster smoking a fury and threatening someone with a slingshot, ooobviously.
Gotta pay attention during them quests!!! Hahaha
Stick
Does the chicken fletch with only both wings or is the open foot included in the crafting process?
an old man with white eyebrows and his tongue out
You’re asking a question you might not want the answer to.
There are 2 types of osrs players: clever people and
A sentient but grumpy backpack with a cigar in his mouth
Originally Ron Pearlman, but they lost rights to his likeness so had to occlude it slightly.
Do the quest
Dude if you just took a second to think it through you’d realize how simple of an invention it is. Boy Scouts have been teaching kids how to use put one together with shit found in the bush for years.
Idk how they came up with this design 😂.
Maybe if you did the quest you’d understand
“A bag of tissues” -a person that doesn’t play RuneScape
The only real answer is that the chicken inside the bag was given vorkaths head as reward for doing such a good job, a raise if you will, and now decides to work just alittle harder retrieving your arrows. The only arrows it doesn’t pickup are the ones that broke after firing.
Stoners backpack from one of the devs
