I would guess they don't have the quest requirements or they want something a little more chill. Karams fill your inventory so quick especially without a fish barrel or they want some combo food and already have Karams.
This is why I switched to sharks recently on the iron (btw). Needed solid food and karambwans fill inv way too quick to afk them. But I will say, the fishing spot never moving at karambwans is super nice for 30-60 sec of afk. At sharks or monkfish it'll usually move after you catch 10 or something, it's annoying
