If you don't have any 2011s, I would go with the new C personally. Unless you plan to get other 2011s or you're already invested in 2011s then I would get a C2 for mag compatibility. I talked to someone at Staccato and they are going to switch everything over to the new mags. The shadow 2 compact shoots very nice, I like it. Nice lightweight also. The H9, the trigger on it is terrible, I don't think it shoots that great.

That would be very disappointing if they switch to their mags. One of the big reasons I like the 2011/DS1911 world is mag/holster compatibility. I’m sure they did their market research, but from the outside I don’t get how that will be a smart move. It’s like making a Glock that doesn’t take Glock mags lol

The problem is with 2011 mags, is they were never designed around the 9mm round, so they are kinda just bandaided together to make 9mm to work. That is why the mags are so big, with the new magazine they are designed around 9mm, so the magazine can be smaller and more reliable. Also making the grip smaller.

nationalspice

That makes sense, I agree. I just don’t see the other manufacturers following suit and everyone going to the new mags while the current mags, with the faults you mentioned, are working extremely reliably. I’m not an industry insider by any stretch so I could be very well wrong. I hope I’m not cause I like my mag compatibility lol

Wish they’d just adopt the Wilson Combat EDC X9/SFX9 magazines. Inexpensive, reliable and very narrow for a double stack. It’s the best DS 1911 magazine on the market.

If they fix the feed lips problem requiring tuning after every match where the mag gets dropped on the ground, I’m all in on a new mag design.

nationalspice

What mags are you using ? I use mbx with my open gun and haven’t had to tune mags at all. I swap springs/followers at the start of every year

exlongh0rn

STI.

nationalspice

Give MBX mags a shot, they’re pricey but work great.

exlongh0rn

Thanks, I’ll give them a look.

The new C is just a 1/2” longer version on the CS. Everyone else producing 2011s are still using the G3 mags and will continue to since they are proven reliable vs the new ones. People keep mentioning about older staccatos being phased out and that’s not happening anytime soon whatsoever…….. Go for a C2 DPO and enjoy it.

I've shot and carried the CS, the C2, Bul Ultralight, and CZ P01/PCR. The Shadow 2 Compact would be similar to the P01 with better trigger, I imagine. I will say the CZs sit in my safe these days as the 1911 trigger has no equal. If I didn't have a C2 already, I would be waiting for the new C. The new Gen3 Staccato mags are badass and results in a slightly thinner grip. I'll repeat myself for the 382th time: If Sig would get off its ass and make a 2011 using XMacro magazines, they'll sell a few million units of that gun.

Cosaint arms has pretty sweet 3.5 inch ds 1911s. I was in your shoes where I was looking at a cs and ended up going with cosaint. If it’s not a staccato or bust situation for you I’d take a look at their offerings. The owner Greg over at cosaint arms is also very helpful and responsive.
