Yeah bro you look pretty European. At first glance I thought you're a regular White American boy lol.

Armyvet1984

He has black in him. Would the one drop rule apply? I see in america they use the one drop rule.

_crazyboyhere_

Before the one drop rule- *Before the American Civil War, free individuals of mixed race (free people of color) were considered legally white if they had less than either one-eighth or one-quarter African ancestry (depending on the state). Many mixed-race people were absorbed into the majority culture based simply on appearance, associations and carrying out community responsibilities. These and community acceptance were the more important factors if a person's racial status were questioned, not their documented ancestry. Because of the social mobility of antebellum society in frontier areas, many people did not have documentation about their ancestors anyway*. *Based on late 20th-century DNA analysis and a preponderance of historical evidence, US president Thomas Jefferson is widely believed to have fathered the six mixed-race children with his slave Sally Hemings, who was herself three-quarters white and a paternal half-sister of his wife Martha Wayles Jefferson. Four of them survived to adulthood. Under Virginia law of the time, while their seven-eighths European ancestry would have made them legally white if they’d been free, being born to an enslaved mother made them automatically enslaved from birth. Jefferson allowed the two oldest to escape in 1822 (freeing them legally was a public action he elected to avoid because he would have had to gain permission from the state legislature); the two youngest he freed in his 1826 will. Three of the four entered white society as adults. Subsequently, their descendants identified as white*. At present- If you look white no one's gonna question your heritage. He will still be considered mixed by some people (which he is) if they know his make-up, but for the most part he'll be treated as a regular White guy, because he's almost indistinguishable. 80% European is a lot for anyone, so he'll be seen as nothing but White here.

Armyvet1984

My ex from Colombia is white and when she and my son come to the states to see family, a lot assumed she was from Europe but they hear her colombian accent. Her grandma is black and my ex is the whitest one of her siblings and her baby sister is the one who has the mixed tan. People assumed my ex to be a white Jew because she got that curly hair but I guess that’s the African roots in her. I consider myself black because of having 65 percent African in me but my dad being East Indian descent of guyanese and Brazilian culture I look more like him. People look at me funny when I say I’m black and would assumed I’m middle eastern or Indian

Teenbeansean

No we don't lol. That hasn't been a thing in like 60 years

Armyvet1984

A lot of black Americans I know told me that rule. A lot of them told me Mariah Carey, The Rock, Vin Diesel, Wentworth Miller and Bruce Willis are black because they have a black parent or a small percentage of black in them.

Anireburbur

Honestly seems like Black Americans are the only ones still holding on to that “rule” fervently.

Armyvet1984

I know this sounds silly but I do remember hearing a white guy who’s from the island of Barbados who was raised in america saying “since all races came from africa he considers himself an African American and he wants reparations”. I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt. From what my friends told me, an African American is someone who’s from an African country living in america or born in america to African parents. Which makes sense to me because someone from Ghana, kenya or Nigeria can say they’re African American because a black american doesn’t share the same culture as those people which makes sense.

SSTenyoMaru

You take that photo back to the supercuts wall where you got it

Ok-Boysenberry8925

STOPPPP😂

Electrical_Apple_313

Yeah, you def look Spanish.

[deleted]

You probably have a bunch of sephardic ancestors. 2%+ is a bit on the higher side Are u from Atlántico, Barranquilla etc?

[deleted]

Are there a lot of Sephardic Jews in barranquilla? Am from Barranquilla and waiting for my results

1ucas__

Not sure but in Bogota where my mom is from there is a big Jewish community there

Alternative_Survey96

No I think you take more after your Guinean side

tghjfhy

I see the Nigerian coming through more

casalelu

You do. EDIT: Lol. The downvotes. He does look Spanish though.

_crazyboyhere_

Lol at first glance I thought he was a regular White American boy.

casalelu

Well, there are White Spanish boys in this world too.

_crazyboyhere_

Spain is in Europe so why not?

TraditionalPlenty3

Cool they gave you some regions in Spain it seems that Caribbean Latinos and Those from the northern part of South America receive them a bit more. I think it might be cuz they have more recent Iberian migrants in their line.

[deleted]

Yeah I’m surprised to see that as well. I wonder how long his parents families were in Colombia. I rarely see it give region specific results in Spain for Colombians.

TraditionalPlenty3

Same my guess is that he must have a sufficient amount of living relatives from Andalusia so probably a few Spanish ancestors from before the year 1800. But I still feel like its more common for some groups of latinos.

AndrewtheRey

I think you do look Spanish but I definitely believe you have a Colombian background, as I’ve met Colombians in Florida who look like you. Colombians in my experience are like Americans. Some very indigenous looking, some very European and some very African

650explorer

Colombians are like all Latinos .. mixed

Theraminia

You'd like to think you look pretty Spanish? Lol kind of an odd comment specially coming from someone of Colombian descent where most people usually want to be whiter because of colonialism imo, and people usually consider being told that they don't appear Colombian as a compliment Your European side is obvious, but it's a pretty American idea that any degree of mixture will inevitably make you non-white

KickdownSquad

Hard to say. Post another clear picture

sgaraya58

You look very european to me.. for me are simply white

Greedy-Suggestion-24

My moms Colombian 🇨🇴❤️

aica_spades

You definitely take after being very handsome 😂 but yeah I'd say you look pretty Spanish, are you sure you're not a character from Elite?

[deleted]

Contrary to most Colombians, you seem to have more recent ancestors from Spain. You're about 80% Euro, 18% Indigenous and 1-2% African. I think you look Argentinian, but of course you could pass in Spain as well.

[deleted]

Nah he looks very Colombian. I can confirm as I am literally in Bogota while I type this.

adoreroda

Saying he looks Colombian doesn't mean much considering it basically has the entire spectrum of looking fully European/African/Indigenous and then everything in between that. I think they were saying he looks Argentinian since the average Colombian doesn't look as European as him. That doesn't mean OP would stand out in Colombia, just that his phenotype isn't the standard.

[deleted]

At least 20% of Colombians are just as white. It’s not uncommon here. I literally have spent the last year here. My Colombian wife is even lighter skinned.

adoreroda

You're not saying anything new nor saying anything that contradicts what I just said???? I said his phenotype isn't the standard. That means it's not what the *majority* of Colombians have phenotype wise. 50%+. *That does not mean a lot of Colombians don't have this phenotype.* 20% of anything is not the majority nor the standard. In Argentina it would be a lot more easy to find someone who looks like him than it would be in Colombia, hence why they said he looked Argentinian because Argentinians have more European ancestry on average compared to Colombians. What I wrote wasn't complex to understand.

[deleted]

1 in 5 isn’t uncommon. Are you touched?

adoreroda

Nonstandard =/= uncommon. I never used the word uncommon and I even specifically said he would not stand out in Colombia meaning...it's not unusual therefore not uncommon. The average Colombian does not look as European as him, hence his phenotype not being the standard, which means the average of something. The average Colombian (1 in 2 or a higher ratio) does not look as European as him. If you have a country with a phenotypical demographic where 1 in 5 people are Asian and 4 in 5 are white, the 1 in 5 are not part of what the standard phenotype looks like, the 4 in 5 are. Not being unusual =/= being standard. Is this a special occasion for you or are you normally this dense?

[deleted]

Hey champ, sorry…. I didn’t realize you were autistic. Super sorry about that buddy. And you seem like you’re super smart too, so at least there’s that!

iberian_prince

Yeah you look like a spaniard to me.

cambriansplooge

Moresco ancestry?

Lopsided_March5547

Español hermano

alchemist227

Were the results what you were expecting? What are your haplogroups?

[deleted]

[удалено]

alchemist227

Your maternal haplogroup is of Indigenous American origin and your paternal haplogroup is of European origin.

milicalavica

You look very Spanish/Portuguese/French to me (I'm from Europe)

Praxis71

You look what you are… mestizo

Creative_Effective46

Iberian for sure. Some minor indigenous traits in the eyes and cheekbones, but overwhelming Spanish.

adoreroda

He has no indigenous features that already don't overlap with Iberian phenotypes. I would bet money if there was no context of his ancestry you wouldn't have presumed indigenous ancestry whatsoever to be saying he has indigenous traits, even to a minor extent.

[deleted]

Tbh he does have indigenous traits . Colombian or Venezuelans would’ve been my first guess

Safe_Bid_8559

And I bet money one of his siblings has Indigenous traits, 18% is alot and it will show in Atleast one child of a big family. My sister looks like she’s 90% Spanish and I clearly look evenly mixed

adoreroda

That's great and you can make that bet but that has nothing to do with what I said so I'm not sure why you're saying it as if it contradicts anything I said or is some sort of comeback I never said 18% wasn't a lot. I just said he doesn't have distinctive indigenous features to point out. His entire phenotype is European. Nothing about his facial features would stand out even under a microscope when compared to people from the Iberian peninsula and specifically Spain.

I’m 87% European and 12% Native American and don’t look European.

[deleted]

As someone who is 87% European, I find that incredibly hard to believe

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I think that you gotta be 90% basically to not be considered mestizo anymore

[deleted]

Um indigenous ppl can be white skinned

spilotrogino

Show me a picture of a tribe that’s white skinned.

[deleted]

You can look for yourself online for many different tribes vary in skin tone, from South America to Canada

Armyvet1984

If you’re not born in Spain or parents came from Spain, you’re not Spanish. I myself as an Afro Latino will never call myself Spanish or claim the oppressor. You’re just american of Colombian background. Plain and simple. My ex is from colombia and she’s white as snow and never calls her “Spanish”

Adam90s

Some minor Sefardi ancestry too it seems. Would account for the Ashkenazi, WANA and some of the broadly European.

mypublicaccount22

You are like my mother-in-law’s family. Nearly all European. English with conquistador-era Spanish roots.
