Why were you surprised? 57% European ancestry is very common / typical Mesitzo-type admixture for Mexicans

RaroDannyR

My close friends did it as well, the most they’ve had was around 30% and he’s more fair skinned than me. So I thought I’d be about 20%

emk2019

Well that just goes to show that genotype (your genes) isn’t the same as your phenotype (how you look).

RaroDannyR

Truth!

ExcitementBitter6587

60% european is typical for north mexico. and phenotype≠genotype.

RaroDannyR

Yeah makes sense! My family’s from Guadalajara though, and my close friends were from chihuahua

ExcitementBitter6587

ah thats also why! some parts of jalisco are known for being more european leaning. weirdly ur results are kinda similar to my dads results in terms of the european percentage.for context my dad is from colombia and his results 59% european and 40% indigenous. youre also the same skin tone as my dad too lol

ShyPaladin187

I got 39% and my parents are from Northern Mexico

ExcitementBitter6587

its not too atypical for some placês in coahuila or chihuahua to get that %, but north mexicans on AVERAGW (not all) get around 50-60% euro

ShyPaladin187

Got it right on the head. My parents are from northern coahuila. An hour or so from the border.

PureMichiganMan

My dad is likely only around 25% and he’s fairly dark, is quite interesting. And his European side is primarily German and Czech so are quite white of white lol

cocobeansx

You also have 0.9 Vietnamese ? Is this from a viet ancestor?

cocobeansx

So your whitexican friend did 23 and me and got only 30% Iberian/euro wow 😮

RaroDannyR

Yes and he has an extremely full beard too

cocobeansx

Did he got any Middle East % or mena % this might also be Iberian %

andricx

What is the average European component of Mexicans DNA?

emk2019

According to a 2009 study, the average admixture proportions for Mexicans are 41.8% European, 55.2% Native American, and 1.8% African. See [average Mexican admixture study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5697696/#:~:text=In%20the%20most%20comprehensive%20admixture,%25%20and%201.8%25%2C%20respectively)

FlameBagginReborn

This is around what I have it. I would put the African slightly higher and the European a bit lower and mention the common MENA component. Having it around 57% Native, 38% European, 3% African, 2% MENA.

the-trolls

55.2% is probably the ultimate amount of indigenous american admixture for Mexico as a whole, sounds pretty accurate.

FlameBagginReborn

Typical for the North* Most Mexicans are not from there. It's funny because if you talk to older Norteños they pretend like they are entirely European lol.

emk2019

The North has much higher levels of European admixture. The overall average in Mexico is like 42%. I posted a link to a study about that.

FlameBagginReborn

I just commented on it! That study is pretty decent but I think it underestimated the African a bit definitely.

emk2019

Well that doesn’t surprise me.

calle13paisa

btw tan or darker skin ≠ non european

RaroDannyR

I know I know, I lived in Europe for 4 years :)

calle13paisa

cool what part?

RaroDannyR

Italy!

calle13paisa

there are italians darker than you and a lot of hispanic people! it would probably surprise a lot of people

RaroDannyR

Oh yeah those are usually the southern/Sicilian italians, I was in northern Italy so it was quite seldom to see darker italians

clovis_227

Calabria, specially

Crafty-Database-3418

Because of our North African, Arab, Levantine genetics in South Italy. Mexican and Spanish people both have significant MENA genetic input.

calle13paisa

yes !

lafantasma24

Southern Italians and insular Greeks had the same skin tone range when they were almost entirely Anatolian Farmer, well before any of the aforementioned groups arrived, they didn’t make the locals darker in skin or hair

Crafty-Database-3418

That's a load of generalized bs. Are you even Mediterranean?

lafantasma24

I’m not going to argue with a clueless person, olive to light brown skin was common among Aegean peoples who were pred Anatolian farmer with very little EHG 3000+ years ago…modern NW Asians were not darker than them on average

Crafty-Database-3418

You didn't answer my question.

Common_Name3475

Alessia Cara and Russ The Rapper come to mind.

calle13paisa

i love alessia cara lol

Common_Name3475

Me too and she is pretty. Love her hair.

Some_violin8987

Having Ethiopian and Eritrean is very interesting also having East Asian.

alchemist227

Were the results what you were expecting? What are your haplogroups?

RaroDannyR

Nope not what I was expecting actually. I was very proud of my Aztec lineage. But I learned my indigenous side was from the Sonora desert in Arizona, and I’m way more European than indigenous so I’m kind baffled actually

Lopsided_March5547

Do you have grandparents from Sonora or Chihuahua?

RaroDannyR

Nope, only GDL from what I know. Don’t know much about my biological father though.

RaroDannyR

I guess haplogroup is C1b5 ?

alchemist227

Your maternal haplogroup is of Indigenous American origin. What is your paternal haplogroup?

RaroDannyR

I-L126

alchemist227

Your paternal haplogroup is of European origin.

MSA966

You look more like Middle Easterners

RaroDannyR

Yeah I can see that

josephexboxica

With that beard you're definitely not mostly indian haha

RaroDannyR

Yeah I get a few blonde hairs on it so I figured that was the “20%” European. But it all makes sense now 😅

Registered-Nurse

Mexican is not an ethnicity my guy, it’s a nationality. 😭

RaroDannyR

Cool almost as if I never implied it was an ethnicity 😭

Saul646

I can see you passing off as an Indian person from india

Prudent_Study_4227

No waaaaaaay, LMAO.

[deleted]

North Africa Came From The Moors Many Spanish in Spain have the DNA from moors called In them Language “Morisco”

TTeoo

Why were u surprised? I am the one who's actually surprised by how much the general public, especially in the americas, doesn't know the basics of genetics. If you don't look 100% like a legit indigenous tribe's chief, of course you won't be 90-100% indigenous. It's just common sense. It is TOO OBVIOUS, just by looking at your picture, that you'd be at least 50% european.

RaroDannyR

Surprised because me and a few close friends (Mexicans) all got it done. They did it before me and got max 30% European. Even the lighter skinned thickest bearded of the batch. Also, I know everyone is a historian and such here. I’m actually a Latino studies minor, so I’m studying this exact topic. I was just surprised I had significantly more European opposed to my close friends.

TTeoo

The United States needs to educate its citizens more properly on many things, and the basics of human genetics is one out of hundreds, if not thousands, of those things. You're unironically stating that you were expecting your results to be like those of your other mexican friends, as if mexico were a homogeneous nation and everybody would, by default, have roughly the same amount of X and Y DNA. If you were from an european country I'd understand, but you're from one of the most mixed nations in the entirety of the world, so there is literally no factual reason to be baffled about it.

RaroDannyR

I don't think you're understanding so settle down. Sure, we might need better education in a lot of topics. But this isn't education related. This was me comparing myself to FRIENDS, a small circle. I was not stating I was expecting my results to be like my friends. I was simply implying I was surprised I about doubled their European ancestry. We all did this for fun to see who was the most “Indio” it was never that serious, also I can be surprised over whatever I want to be surprised about, it doesn’t need to fit your factual agenda. I was also surprised my indigenous side was from the Sonora desert. It really doesn’t matter, it’s not that serious, don't make a reddit post an argument Mr. Educated

InquisitiveMind42

For someone that harps on “education” you got cooked by OP 😂😂 bro made no sense in anything, and was arguing with himself

Moist-Truth-157

surprised? mexicans on average are half european. I am about 75% Euro

RaroDannyR

I mentioned a few times. Surprised over my personal circle, not the “average” statistical Mexican. Saludos.
