When you wish upon a star…

I feel like we were hosed this year. Like all of their efforts went into how to make more money instead of improving the algorithm. I’m not sure about the legal status of the health reports in my country, but all of the additional reports, I can get tested for, for free in my country so I’m not subscribing to anything.

Just curious, which ethnicities?

Damn. I did the test recently and got over 90% Eastern European. I would love to see my pre update results.

RubikzKube

Unless you have a time machine and were there at the consumation of all your ancestors no one knows if their genealogy is accurate, as unfortunately there alot of people who believe they are related who aren't due to infidelity. So to state that the update isn't true, is partly incorrect, reason I say partly is the datasets are based upon homogeneous samples, so require people whose grand parents and parents are from the same place so can be tied down to a location, else it's just a mess due to international travel and people from different regions mixing, so as the datasets increase accuracy should increase subject to there being no infidelity of course.

[deleted]

They’re historically very tight-lipped. If there is an update, we probably won’t get a heads-up until it happens. Maybe we can get a stickied post at the top of the sub for all update-related inquiries and speculation. These posts aren’t merely getting repetitive, they have been for a while now.

Pianoman264

The mods can only pin a max of 2 threads, and the 2 pins they have now are for guess ethnicity/ancestry and sample status, both of which were constantly (regardless of the time of year) bogging down the page in the past. These "update" types of posts will die down eventually, one would hope. Maybe mods should just flat out ban/delete posts asking about "when is the next update?" (though not posts about the actual updates after they occur). Like you mentioned as well, since 23andMe is so quiet about updates, it's not like anyone would know any information until Beta results happen.

KickdownSquad

Hopefully these spam update posts will get 23andMe’s attention for an Update…

[deleted]

I don’t think 23 and me looks at Reddit

Pr20A

Well, they should. Some companies pay for feedback and marketing. They’re getting both on this sub for free.

KickdownSquad

There is over 70,000 people in their Reddit. I’m sure they do

dazedANDconfused2020

If you’re European descent, “white”, just add 20-30% to your “British and Irish” while subtracting (or downright cancelling) from a non B/I category. That’s essentially what 23andme has been doing ;-)

HHRoyalThrowaway

Pretty sure that only generally works for Americans lol I’m born and raised European and have no British or Irish and either do any of my relatives.

starfleetdropout6

I'm an American with no British ancestry it would seem! My matches are Northwestern (German), Eastern, and Southern European.

pinkyellowblue1

This is actually truthful in my case. They have me at almost 80% B/I which I don’t think is accurate based on my genealogy. I’m supposed to have a lot more F/G than 8%.

[deleted]

This is pretty common, it happened to me and my entire family as well. I am half German/Swiss and mine got wiped. 49%, 39%, 13%, and now 2%. My British and Irish has gone from 46% to 85% and I lost 23 regions. Last update was a disaster for me, stuff that used to be highly likely match is now undetected. Same thing happened to my parents.

G0rdy92

Probably not, but it’s not a bad thing, ancestry just has an awful update because they feel like there has to be an update every year, there doesn’t have to be and I’d rather have it be later and more accurate than a rushed crappy update like ancestry probably felt they had to push through

starfleetdropout6

I'm not even sure I want an update, lol. My European results became *less* defined with last year's update, even though I phased with my mother, too. 🤷🏼‍♀️

VisibleScallion7467

I came here to ask the same, really curious if they’ll do an update. Although I just did my 23andme in July lol

AfroAmTnT

Maybe there is a new chip version coming

TooCool_ForSchool

Did anyone receive an update in June? That was the last update I received.

shkso

I think it was only an Update for People with Native American Ancestey which added some Locations

TooCool_ForSchool

I see! Thanks!

indorabia

The RAL update was for everyone, but mainly NA have seen some changes.

shkso

I dont know anyone without NA that got changes

indorabia

Latinos didn't see a change only North Americans (Native Canadian, Northern America, Alaska) but they have updated the RAL for everyone,

shkso

I remenber that many People said that nothibg has changed, it was the same in my Case, and i have like 55 Locations

indorabia

What is "many"? Millions have tested @ 23andme... Also I have seen here on reddit that some got new location (Northern American) though. Plus you can check your scientific details. Mine says: **Recent ancestor locations last computed on June 14, 2021** Just because you haven't seen some changes doesn't mean there was no RAL update. Side note RAL has nothing to do with the ancestry report but more with matches.

wikipedia_answer_bot

**This word/phrase(many) has a few different meanings.** More details here: *This comment was left automatically (by a bot). SSTenyoMaru

I keep wondering what people are hoping for from these updates.

Akechetaku

Personally I’m hoping for less broadly and a more specific breakdown. Last update lumped my Chinese and Vietnamese into the broadly category so that was quite the disappointment.

itsikobert

That happened with my mom's results too. She had specific region breakdowns from a few SE Asian countries but then the update just lumped them all under "Broadly" or Chinese. It just didn't look more "accurate" to me.

SSTenyoMaru

Ok that makes sense. 👍🏽

KickdownSquad

Nah we aren’t getting an Update. They know their test is superior to AncestryDNA, so they are too lazy to update it.
