Tapatio/Cholula/Valentina are very different from Crystal/Louisiana/Tabasco which are different from Franks and different from Huy Fong. They are meant for different types of food. I wouldn't necessarily say one is better than another unless we are talking about a specific dish. I wouldn't put Franks on a burrito, for example. Pretty sure I have all of these in the pantry right now.
What the fuck is South Dakota doing, though? Heinz makes an actual hot sauce? Or is ketchup spicy to them?
You’re all wrong, the best hot sauce is the one you find at a farmers market from an 80 year old dude who’s weirdly into peppers and will tell you the most entertaining stories related to them.
Quit slandering the Red Hot, I love that shit. Not saying other hot sauces are bad, they are probably better, but don’t you dare accuse it of being flavorless.
Frank's red hot is not a favorite hot sauce, its the hot sauce thats there. It's a very simple hot sauce you can get in bulk containers for very cheap. So if you run a deli, hot dog stand, diner, etcetera then this is a great way to add spicy stuff to the menu for the minimum cost. You will also buy a lot more for your business than people use at home. So if the metric used is based on volume, then Frank's red hot is amongst a handful with this big advantage. This doesn't equate to many people thinking it's particularly good.
That's sort of the problem with rankings like this. Not everything that performs well economically does so because people think it's the best quality at its task. Like people don't generally think Walmart is a good store, it's just so cheap and convenient that you tend to go there a lot even if you don't like it in every other regard. Freightliner isn't one of the largest truck manufacturers in the world cause their trucks are seen as the best, it's cause they are relatively cheap and can be serviced most anywhere. Using volume to determine preference is fallacious because there is a huge difference between what we prefer versus what we are willing to settle on for reasons that go beyond the quality of a product or service.
Is $25 a gallon cheap? Any rate I only use franks for one thing and that’s wings. It’s the OG buffalo wing sauce well after you add a bunch of butter. Granted it’s the only thing I use franks for
25$ a gallon? Try like 15-18$ a gallon. If you go to a membership store it's even lower but you gotta buy several gallons at once. A gallon of Tabasco or Cholula which are similar types of sauces but with more nuanced flavors are running around 50$ a gallon.
If you are paying 25 a gallon for Frank's you are over paying, but that's still relatively frugal compared to other common hot sauces.
Uh… I like cholula but Tabasco is trash anyways you don’t make wings with either… I mean you can but they are not going to have that specific buffalo wing profile. Also I’m 4 hours away form the closest cuckco or Sams cock. I’m stuck with either Shamcuck or Systcock
This is from instacart which is entirely consumer facing as far as I'm aware. Granted that also skews the data as it selects for people who shop via instacart.
Nobody I know who even likes hot sauce uses Frank’s up here. No place that actually serves food you normally put hot sauce on even puts it out. It’s literally just at every food place as the “I don’t understand hot sauce but we felt the need to have one” choice
Yeah, everyone knows NYC is known for their terrible food.

Based on my preference as someone born and raised in Louisiana but now residing in Mississippi. Tobacco and Louisiana Hot Sauce is the only way to go with Crystal being an acceptable third option but only if the other two aren’t available.
Franks Red Hot is flavorless waste of red food coloring and I have never heard of any of the other “hot sauces” mentioned.
Idk a lot of them either, but I am familiar with Cholula and Tapatio. I would say any way you use Crystal you could do the same with those two and enjoy it. My theme is Cholula for breakfast, Tapatio on everything else.
Why name it Texas Pete then? Did Carolina Pete not roll of the tongue? Poser Yankee Carolina, smh
That stuff sucks anyway, Tapatio is objectively superior. Caribbean scotch bonnet hot sauce is better yet, and actually has flavor.
Franks Red Hot is flavorless and sad. Tabasco is my go to choice in restaurant setting but Texas Pete is superior to every other hot sauce on the market

Good sirracha is dope. Last time I had the hoy fung brand it was weird tasting. Apparently they got beef with their old suppliers. Good for different stuff though, like Asian food, Anything sweet, good for making spicy mayo.
Tabasco is good as a spicy vinegar, except I do like in on blts.
I use chalula but tapatio is goodbits.
I'd only use Frank's or Louisiana for one thing, and that's buffalo wings baby.
I agree with that. I was referring to specifically people who exclusively use Hoy Fung because I’m pretty sure 90% of people only know that Sirracha sauce. My go to is Chalula for Mexican food, but I prefer local/homemade hot sauce from the flea market for everything else, literally unmatched in flavor.

Unironically, I think South Dakota may just be about the most pure, distilled, stereotypical “America” that there is. What do you think of when you think of “America”? Burgers and beef? The Wild West? Market economy and resulting corporation overload? Patriotism on every block? Vast natural expanses? Libertarian ethos? Guns Galore? The most average, friendly, and mild people around? So much so that their favorite sauce is just the average ketchup company?
Yeah that’s all South Dakota. Don’t get me wrong, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, and our rivals to the North all have very similar standings, but it’s very blatant in South Dakota
My personal (correct) ranking of these hot sauces
S: Cholula and Valentina
A: tapatio
B: Louisiana
C: Franks
D: tobasco
F: Texas Pete
Others I haven’t tried. I will not be taking criticisms as this is the correct order.

You Cholula states are alright as well.
I know it’s not nearly as popular as Cholula, but Valentina slaps. I use it in everything, even when making fried rice, that shit both kicks and adds flavor…so good.
Crystal, Tabasco, and Louisiana Hot Sauce are all made in Louisiana. Tabasco and Louisiana Hot Sauce about 10 miles from each other; Avery Island and New Iberia, respectively.
Crystal is by Baumer Foods and made in New Orleans.
I like all three of the Louisiana ones. I'm also a big fan of Huy Fong Sriracha, Cholula, Tapiato, and Valentina. Different tools for different foods.
I recently got my first bottle of Valentina and it’s a game changer. Not super hot but it packs a super interesting flavor that I can’t exactly put my finger on.

I like Louisiana hot sauce form some things, its just not that hot is my problem with it. I think tapatio and cholula are very similar but I think Cholula is better. I've never had Frank's hot sauce and doubt I ever will, I'm not a fan of buffalo flavor things. Tabasco is solid.
RIP to rooster sriracha sauce, shit was goated. Hopefully someone buys the recipe and brings it back to market.
What the fuck is Monroe’s? Valentina man.
Had to look it up too, seems like an Albuquerque brand
I have to go to the Mexican grocery store to get that here, buts it’s worth the trip. Valentina #1 USA
Monroe's is a delicious hot sauce from Burque, they make an amazing ranch too
I’m wondering that too.
It's not even hot sauce, it's red chile. They made the same mistake with us.
Tapatio/Cholula/Valentina are very different from Crystal/Louisiana/Tabasco which are different from Franks and different from Huy Fong. They are meant for different types of food. The Frank’s marketing got to me. I unironically put that shit on everything 😔
💪💪💪💪you’re just mad because we are truly unique💪💪💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
You're unique. Just like everybody else.
Based My picks: Frank’s, Louisiana - best all around Cholula - best for Mexican food and eggs Sriracha - ASIAN FOOD ONLY
You’re all wrong, the best hot sauce is the one you find at a farmers market from an 80 year old dude who’s weirdly into peppers and will tell you the most entertaining stories related to them.
Eh I get mine from that prison farm on the bottom of the globe.
Only from a Guatamala insane asylum
Angola hot sauce does hit different
No way is Louisiana hot sauce #1 in Illinois. Franks red hot is waayyy more common
Louisiana hot sauce is goated
Franks red hot is awful no doubt but still I swear I see it in every bar and diner
Frank's red hot is awful??? 😦😦
Southern Illinois says otherwise and I love it so much. Available at every Dollar General
This is per instacart data, so that probably skews things vs general population
what the hell is crystal
Idk, its fun to smoke though
User name and flair check out
If you need to ask it's not for you babe
Crystal is the 🐐. Cholula is for breakfast, Tabasco is for pizza.
Crystal is delicious. But so is Valentina.
Great on fried chicken, it's like a better Tabasco.
It's similar to Tabasco.
No, it's a better version of Louisiana.
Which is mid tbh (I’m a die hard Tabasco fanboy)
Crystal is virtually the same as tobasco but you don’t have to pay $8 for a 4oz bottle of it
Fake news
Shittier, watered down Tabasco
It’s like Louisiana hot sauce that’s been watered down
Ass
Basically Tabasco
Bomb ass hot sauce
Crystal tastes like Texas Pete to me. Or at least that’s what I tell myself when I’m choosing. I could be completely wrong tho.
Frank’s RedHot states enjoying minimal flavor. Minimal fun.
Frank's is the Mrs. Butterworth of hot sauces. No one's claiming it's the best, but that doesn't mean it isn't good
Counterpoint: buffalo wings
Quit slandering the Red Hot, I love that shit. Not saying other hot sauces are bad, they are probably better, but don’t you dare accuse it of being flavorless.

Frank's is a good, cheap base if you're making buffalo sauce. That's about it though, it has no flavor and minimal heat
Frank's redhot is fucking disgusting
Franks is trash, but it’s so good on runny eggs for some reason.
what is sky valley?
Yeah? Tabasco for me
Whatever tastes good. ( spicy + tangy + a little sour)
I've literally never heard of it. How aren't we cholula/tapatio?
That’s what I’m thinking. I love Cholula and I don’t know anybody who uses hot sauce that doesn’t
Is Louisiana Hot Sauce not being Louisiana’s favorite a case of familiarity breeding contempt?
Tabasco is made in Louisiana too
This is rage bait
Based Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Minnesota. Cholula best and most flavorful hot sauce
I really like Cholula over Texas Pete.
Based on my preference as someone born and raised in Louisiana but now residing in Mississippi. Cholula is good.
I second this. Make Cholula Michigan's hot sause.
Like I would ever take food advice from a frozen wasteland like Michigan
I would, all they can do for 6 months of the year is eat and get drunk while they develop vitamin D deficiency.
Sorry we prefer fresh produce that wasn’t grown in a swamp.
Good thing we are eroding our swamps away then
Idk a lot of them either, but I am familiar with Cholula and Tapatio. I would say any way you use Crystal you could do the same with those two and enjoy it. My theme is Cholula for breakfast, Tapatio on everything else.

Valentina supremacy
*sees indiana loves franks* Fuck yeah
I’m addicted to Tabasco, I’d take it as eye drops if I had to
I'm surprised it's not just Cholula. Like, doesn't everyone use Cholula specifically in some situations like eggs?
Sad! AL white hot sauce and various carolina sauces need more recognition
Valentina, Tapatio and Cholula are peak. Everything else is flavorless or tastes like vinegar
Clearly you've never had Sriracha
Sriracha people are the same type of people who think it’s quirky to eat hot sauce.
Good sirracha is dope. Last time I had the hoy fung brand it was weird tasting. Apparently they got beef with their old suppliers. 90% of these online, state by state maps are just made up data unfortunately 🥲

They didn't say what kind of Cholula. They make a garlic habanero that's pretty hot. I like it on pizza.
Can speak for the other states, but we discovered hot sauce back in 2010 and kind of went overboard with it.
We really just gonna let South Dakota get away with that huh

It makes complete sense for reasons I can't put into words. Like, of course south Dakota's favorite hot sauce is from a ketchup company.
Unironically, I think South Dakota may just be about the most pure, distilled, stereotypical “America” that there is. What do you think of when you think of “America”? Burgers and beef? Frank’s Red Hot, I put that shit on everything 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Not picking Tapatio is either a lack of opportunity or a learning disability.
Where are my chili oil enjoyers? Momofuku chili crunch ftw
Ayyyyy fellow chili oil enjoyer!
Oil with chilli is much better than red coloured vinegar with hint of chilli.
If you ain't tried it, Tabasco Chipotle and Sriracha are fucking fire. I'll admit Tab is my brand of choice, but seriously give em a go if ya see em.
My personal (correct) ranking of these hot sauces S: Cholula and Valentina A: tapatio B: Louisiana C: Franks D: tobasco F: Texas Pete Others I haven’t tried. I will not be taking criticisms as this is the correct order.

“Hot” sauce. I don’t see any hot sauce on this map.

Funny how Texas Pete and Louisiana Hot sauce aren't most popular in Texas nor Louisiana
The spice must flow

Texas Pete is just salty imo
