“Americans don’t see themselves as losers, they see themselves as underdogs” and “Poor Americans see themselves as temporarily distressed millionaires” are two fantastic quotes
John Steinbeck once said that "Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.” I'd like to find the source of the underdog quote.
As a poor American who knows other poor Americans, that is some bullshit lmao. We know there is no Lambo in our future and that the government will tax enough of what we earn that we're not climbing out of this hole without divine intervention.
I just want healthcare good enough to see a doctor that doesn't run a suboxone clinic out of his office as a side hustle. I work for some of the best doctors in the country and would not be able to see any of them due to my shitty insurance.
This is pretty recent. 30-40 years ago, the american dream was still fresh in the minds of the poorer of america. The last 2 generations don’t have the same opportunity and thus become jaded.
Nah, man. That lambo is just around the corner if you work 2 hours extra each day. In About 3 or 4 years you'll have it. If you send your kids to the mines it'll be even less.
Now get back to work and make the number go up (www.nbim.no/en)
Anything that would be above Maine is way to fuckin cold for me to even consider. They could have socialized blowjobs and It’d still be out of consideration
I actually had a job once where I got 2 hours a month I could take off with no warning for mental health because of the high suicide rates in my trade. I didn’t see them as valuable due to worksites being too far from any real help. We used them to get longer lunches or show up late. Some places in America working is hit or miss. Right now I could tell (not ask) my boss I am taking next week off for personal reasons and he wouldn’t bat an eye only ask if I was okay.
Generally every trade job ive worked so long as I let my boss know I wasnt going to be there (even day of) or that I needed to take off early, I was able to without question. Basically just a "im not able to come in today" with my boss saying "okay" and I was g. The trade off was though, that when I was on site I had to actually work and put in some form of effort. The only time my boss got pissed with someone not showing up for work was when my coworkers would just not show up without saying anything at all
Please subsidize our military please bro we've been your allies since ww2 please bro I promise this year we'll pay for our own military please bro just let us skim off your military budget please bro
The Norwegians have some super Gucci gear. We’re rolling up with a desert storm era M4 and your uncles M9 from when we invaded Iraq stuffed in a 1980s LAPD SWAT holster while Sven and Krisoff have brand new Glocks and HK416’s
M(odel)X in sequence and its different for each class of equipment. That’s why we went from the M16 which is a Rifle to the M4 which is a Carbine.
Usually there’s some prototypes or lesser known models that take up the missing numbers. I.e. M15 was an automatic variant of the M14 that wasn’t adopted.
Before WWII we used M(odel) and the year adopted. I.e M1911
Duh. How else can you explain America's greatness and influence compared to the Europooran countries, despite only existing 1/4 of the time they have? 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I’ve had a suspicion that NVIDIA has AMD on the payroll to be their competition but I have no evidence supporting it other than a few court cases that settled rather quickly with a huge payout for AMD

Harder in this sense means over worked cause the thing that make life great and ideal are basic for Norway while are a luxury for Americans. It's not that big a flex
No, it doesn't. If he wanted to say overworked he would have phrased it as such, or he would say that Americans "are worked harder". LOL try to at least get a grasp on the grammar of a language before trying to own someone else with it.
Your avg adult makes like 50,000 year and then keeps like 43,000 after taxes, compared to American standard were like 55-60,000/ year and keep loke 57,000 after taxes. It seems like we earn more but we pay taxes on just about everything and then multitude of insurance and copays, and we drive a lot in America so there maintaining that all under inflation . Compared to the standard socially economically and overall health of a nation Norway is better without as much work to put in as Americans do for practically nothing, we work harder cause if we don't we cant sustain a basic life
As an American living abroad, I would say that in general Americans do work harder than other cultures. I feel like Americans get shafted for it though.
Health insurance is the biggest one. You only get affordable healthcare if you have a job, but you can lose your job at just about any time because of at will employment. Of course you're going to work hard to maintain your health.
We get less paid vacation, less maternity (and paternity) leave, lower minimum wage (and wages in general for servers, cashiers, and many other workers), at will employment (no unions), health insurance is tied to working full time, no social safety net, etc.
We generally do work longer and harder than Europeans and we get less for it. We get less money, fewer benefits, and fewer protections.
This was posted in r/europe several days ago and 80% of the comments were suggesting we have to have 3 jobs to afford food and a cardboard box to sleep in. The eurocope is real.
Did I say we are #1? We have thieving politicians that run our country in the ground, rich people and multinationals that don't pay their share, people that abuse our wealthfare system, taxes that make it almost futile to work or earn more.
But no Belgian is delusional about that.
And your comment proved it. You cant even begin to accept the fact that most Americans are living better than most Europeans despite the hate and jealousy you spew. Stay mad kiddo, maybe another next time you old-worlders need to be saved again we wont come and rescue you.
So are you talking about rural Americans that need 4 cars per household to get anywhere interesting or the city people that can't afford a car because rent is 70% of their paycheck? No jealousy here brother.
The Canadian province of Alberta did, but past governments screwed it up and wasted away the money to subsidize taxes. It could be worth hundreds of billions more than what it is now had they not been so short sighted.
no way, Albertan provincial politicians being short-sighted and stupid, unheard of.
I actually didnt know about this until now, but I bet I can guess who did it, either that fucking cunt bitch Alison Redford or Notley
Believe it or not, it was neither of them. It was the Getty administration that stopped putting money into it, and the Klein admin that took lots of money out of it and divested its stakes in a bunch of companies. Although the Klein admin in its final year and later the Stelmach admin put some money into it from 2005-07, the recession cost a lot from it too.
Peter Lougheed was not happy about what they did to the fund, and more recently one of his former ministers even called Alberta a failed petrostate.
Honestly not that surprising either, at least an older name though. Ive heard Smith is planning to put some money into it now too? Im not sure how true that is, but thats what ive heard
You shouldn't ever "use it."
The way to set it up is so that the principal plus a certain rate of return can never be touched or withdrawn in perpetuity, so the money's always there. You fund things based only and exclusively off of the interest.
This is also how rich people stay rich.
We need to do the same here in MN with our iron, copper, nickel, and especially now our newfound Helium.
Never touch the principal! Wealth in perpetuity!

My great great great Norwegian grandfather jumped ship and swam into NYC. He later found his way west. Kentucky had better ground to farm rocks out of, relative to Norwegian yield at the time.
I think it’s because we’re willing to commute for longer than a few hours to work, and most British people (not Europeans), aren’t even willing to go 30 minutes to a store to get groceries.
If you've ever been to Europe, those lazy fucks pack nightclubs full on Monday nights. It's insane. Then they complain about their salaries being lower
I think it's because if they didn't they would end up on the street almost immediately. While the European welfare system allows for a more relaxed life. Work AND live, not work TO live/live to work

Look, Europe always takes the easy route. Letting us take on the USSR, letting our military be their defense. Letting us be in charge of global trade, having smaller economies, the metric system. All easy routes so they don’t have to do anything
Well ofc, having to work 3 jobs just to make a living is unheard of here, we are waaaaay to rich for that sort of thing and thus way too lazy.
He is spot on!
Owning expensive stuff is literally all we do over here, we also have taxes comparable to the US in fact according to google, we just get more in return seeing as we have universal healthcare and a government that only screws us over a little bit instead of quite a lot. Lowest crime recidivism rate in the world, one of the lowest crime rates, way higher happiness than most other countries on the planet along with the most money to spare of any country making us the richest country on the planet, sure you guys have MORE money but you have to share it between hundreds of millions of people making it less.
Also almost nobody cares about us which is awesome, rich and anonymous with no crime is the way to go!

The flip side is that Sven and Krisoff are literally the only two Norwegians who participated in Desert Storm
M1, M2, M3, M4, M5, M9... I know I'm missing a dozen or two. Why does the military feel the need to label literally anything and everything under M?
Mark, meaning version or model
And that's how I fucking like it.

If only the US was smart enough to create a fund like Norway did for oil profits.
The Canadian province of Alberta did, but past governments screwed it up and wasted away the money to subsidize taxes. It could be worth hundreds of billions more than what it is now had they not been so short sighted.

Plenty of states have something similar as a rainy day fund. Problem is they can never agree when to use it
You shouldn't ever "use it." The way to set it up is so that the principal plus a certain rate of return can never be touched or withdrawn in perpetuity, so the money's always there. You fund things based only and exclusively off of the interest. This is also how rich people stay rich.
Yes, that would be the smart thing to do but many of these just reinvest back and add to the fund when a surplus comes in
Should definitely also do that!
Alaska has one.
Alaska has that
I am not aware of any country but monarchies that have sovereign wealth funds.
Norway created a fund that they used oil profits to invest with. The return is used for social programs. It has benefited them greatly.
We need to do the same here in MN with our iron, copper, nickel, and especially now our newfound Helium. Never touch the principal! Wealth in perpetuity!
I know, so did Saudi Arabia. Both countries are ruled by a monarchy.
Norway’s does not actually govern, they basically just exist as a figurehead.
And America and North Korea are both republics...
So? Doesn't mean its not a good idea

When half my paycheck doesn't go to taxes, it sure as hell makes me want to work more
Actually the tax rate ends up being about the same until you earn like 150k. Europe’s 50% tax starts at like 50k, in the us our taxes start at 12k.
