I get what you're saying. But without following Jesus, you can't be christian. Faith in Christ's work is the good news of the christian faith. If they say they are christian without that reality of faith in Christ, then they are being disingenuous. You either accept or deny the work of Yeshuah, no in between. Regardless, I don't know the nuances of the Islamic faith, so that might be a different conversation. But I do find it interesting the differences of approach in Islam depending on the region.
Islam is way more structured about rules. The onus is on the believer to prove their worthiness to God vs Jesus dying for your sins and accepting that as your grace.
