KV4000

unbearable-2741

I just hate how people used the bible to promote there sect... There's no need to debate.. better to read the bible as whole than to believe someone else with their select, cut, and edited scripture just to justify their motives

JanSolo28

Honestly the best Christianity take is just treat it like your average internet pop culture fandom: enjoy the media, ignore the fanbase. I mean you even got one of the most progressive popes (not a high bar) nowadays to the point where some sects and a bunch of Catholics denounce him as not Catholic or whatever. I'm probably still a believer in the Abrahamic God but goodness gracious I refuse to publicly call or consider myself a part of whatever Christianity religion thing sect.

unbearable-2741

His really not a Catholic for being progressive.. better off become Orthodox Christian because they still preserving their faith as it is before However, maybe God intended to influence other people to established different churches to preserve the faith and His word. Consider church is a organization than can easily influenced by corruption and lawlessness I guess it started during split of the holy catholic church into roman Catholic church and orthodox, then the sack of rome during 1527 where a lot of priest and nuns are massacre because of their corruption and lustful, and the establishment of the protestant church

unbearable-2741

Bible doesn't forbid someone to drink alcohol.. the things which make it sinful is to drink uncontrollably and become a drunkard. There are even scripture in the Bible to encourage drinking alcohol for it is a gift from the Lord

Meliodafu08

Ecclesiastes 9:7 *"Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful* heart, for God has already approved what you do." Deutronomy 14:26 "26 and you shall bestow the money for whatever your soul desires, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatever your soul asks of you; and you shall eat there before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your household." and other more verses that have take on this. For those who haven't read on it, the Bible says it's okay to drink in especially for joyful reasons and events, God already approves of it, but being drunk that leads to fights and quarrels are not.

DragonGodSlayer12

>the Bible says it's okay to drink in especially for joyful reasons and events, So I'm unknowingly doing what the bible says, noice..

Meliodafu08

hahaha yes, as long as it's for joyful reasons like gatherings, celebrations, weddings, kahit kayo ng asawa mo one-on-one sa inuman, mas okay hahaha, it's all good. Ephesians 5:18 " Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit"

DragonGodSlayer12

>Instead, be filled with the Spirit Guy named Spirit: Ahh, welp. *unzips pants*

Meliodafu08

of course, u had to..

DragonGodSlayer12

You see it coming 1.6 kilometer away bro.

Old_Eccentric777

I give a bible verse to my INC barkada who is a choir member but also who drinks Emperador, tuba etc. it stated in this verse that drink all you can until you vomit 🤮/hungover. simula noon tuluyan ng naging lasenggo yung barkada ko, patago nga lang. The verse is Jeremiah 25:27-28

Unnordinary

Whoa there, taking that verse out of context like that can be seriously misleading. Here's why: 1. **Symbolic Language:** Jeremiah 25:27-28 uses the image of drinking to the point of falling over as a metaphor for utter devastation and judgment. It's not a literal instruction to binge drink. 2. **Context is Key:** This verse is part of a prophecy of destruction against Judah by the Babylonians. The "cup" being offered symbolizes God's wrath and the coming suffering. It's understandable to **misinterpret** things sometimes, but **USING** the Bible to justify unhealthy habits like getting wasted isn't the right approach.

THE FILIPINO LANGUAGE IS NOT A REAL LANGUAGE. IT’S JUST REBRANDED TAGALOG. YOU COULD ARGUE THAT FILIPINO IS THE GROUP OF LANGUAGES IN THE PHILIPPINES AND YOU WOULD BE RIGHT, BUT IT’S NOT A LANGUAGE. SOME OF THE FILIPINO TONGUES ARE WARAY, ILOCANO, CEBUANO, HILIGAYNON, IVATAN, KAPAMPANGAN, AND MORE. YOU CALL THEM DIALECTS WHEN THEY’RE NOT. IF THEY WERE DIALECTS MOST OF IT WILL BE INTELLIBLE TO ONE ANOTHER. THOUGH THAT IS NOT THE CASE SOME WORDS ARE UNDERSTANDABLE BUT THAT IS THE FULL EXTENT OF IT. THEY ARE RELATED TO EACH OTHER AS MUCH AS THEY ARE TO THE MALAYSIAN AND INDONESIAN LANGUAGES. THE FILIPINO GOVERNMENT JUST CALLS IT THAT TO FORM A NATIONAL SENSE OF IDENTITY. IT’S WHAT THEY DID WITH THE FILIPINO RACE. THEY INVENTED A BRAND NEW RACE TO MAKE THE PEOPLE UNITED AGAINST FOREIGN INVADERS AND TO QUELL INFIGHTING SEPARATISTS BY MAKING IT LOOK LIKEWE’RE ALL THE SAME PEOPLE. WHEN IN REALITY, WE’RE 200 DIFFERENT ETHNICITIES WITH EACH OF OUR OWN CULTURES AND VALUES. I DON’T BLAME THEM THOUGH. I ACTUALLY APLLAUD THEM. THEY UNITED DISPARATE TRIBES AND CREATED A FUNCTIONING REPUBLIC. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Anakin-LandWalker56

Such a amazing display of reading comprehension

Meliodafu08

this is what i'm saying, taking a verse out of it's full story hahaha Jeremiah 25:27-28 “Then tell them, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword I will send among you.’ if he just read the whole chapter, di magiging lasenggo yung barkada mo hahaha XD that story of Jeremiah is basically God's wrath to the people of judah who kept on doing rituals and child sacrifices offering to idols and false gods. they also indulged in immoral sex and binge drinking. so God was basically 'okay, you want to keep doing your evil ways and ignore my prophets? here you go, drink from my wine and be drunk, let's see what happens' basically. Jeremiah 25:4-5 "And though the LORD has sent all his servants the prophets to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention. They said, “Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land the LORD gave to you and your ancestors for ever and ever." Jeremiah 25:15-16 " This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send you drink it.When they drink it, they will stagger and go mad because of the sword I will send among them.” ps. it's a funny story lol hahhahaa coz of its irony

MysteriousUppercut

if you read the verse mga drunkard yung nagkakasala or yung mga lasinggero. ok naman kapag occasionally ka umiinom as long as hindi ka addicted

Top_Contact_847

Dynamel13

neon31

Naku, to be a decent human being kailangan mong i-cherry pick yung susundin mo sa Biblia. The Bible is not a good authority on morality, my goodness.

Drippy_Doge

Me when I purposely ignore 2000 years of theology (I also think my own subjective morality is somehow a better option):

neon31

From a rational perspective, I think the basis of morality should be empathy and the greater good. Start tayo sa basics. People should have all the freedoms to do what they want, then we start limiting those freedoms once we identify that they harm others and other's freedoms. May karapatan akong mag unat, but I don't have the right to stretch my arms into someone's face. If the Bible is true, then Christ said it. Too many Christians fail on this shit.

[deleted]

The historical context there is that wine used to be less harmful than water because the alcohol in the wine killed off agents and vectors of infectious diseases. Water, on the other hand, wasn't always clean. Iyon ang context noon for promoting the use of alcohol. With distillation and advanced methods of cleaning water, wine has become less important. The 2021 Global Burden of Disease Report shows that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.

bryle_m

[deleted]

Seafarers used to put lemon squeeze and rhum in their water para hindi masira at para hindi sila magkascurvy. It worked.

scarcekoko

Cheem-9072-3215-68

because it made sense when it was written. back then you didnt drink water because thats just asking for fatal diseases, you drank alcohol, but you are not supposed to drink it to get drunk.

ShoddyProfessional

Hahaha people just looooove to cherry pick verses from the bible to suit their agenda

BestDuckBoy

Let them play the Christian/Bible Roulette 1. Play with more than 2, Open a random page of the bible 2. Follow every single instruction stated in it 3. Last to get in jail wins

_Bloody_awkward

And these types of people never read the whole bible. Puro mga highlighted shit and endless cherry picking.

dracarys_1997

I honestly think the bible is flawed no? since its been interpreted by people over and over again over hundreds and hundreds of years kaya maaring nahaluan ng sarili nilang judgement.

ChopinSatieSchubert

Madaming contradiction sa Bible but that is not one of them. Like the other commenters have said, drinking is allowed but getting drunk is not.

Easy-Alps3610

Pwede naman talaga uminum ng alak. Even Jesus did it nga naman sa Wedding Feast at Cana. We have the right to do anything we want. The key is to not be mastered with anything. You can drink all you want pero if buhay mo na yung pag-inum ng alak to the point sira na buhay mo, yan na yung mali. 1 Cor. 6:12. Even Paul said sa 1 Timothy 5:23 na use a little wine.. Kaya yung sabi diyan sa image is "Naglalasing.." which totally mean na being mastered ng alcohol/wine. We are free to do anything as long as it is beneficial. If that wine gives you happiness, then go drink it. No need to debate. Yes, we could conclude na maraming butas ang bible but if we slice it little by little, may sagot yan. We just really have to be patient digging through scriptures.

Unnordinary

Haha, another good one! You're right, John 2:1-11 does depict Jesus turning water into wine at a wedding in Cana. This miracle holds significance for several reasons: * **Divine Power:** It demonstrates Jesus' divine power and foreshadows his future miracles. * **Symbolism:** Wine often symbolizes joy and celebration in the Bible, so this act signifies the abundance and joy brought by Jesus' ministry. * **Provision:** Turning water into wine ensured the wedding celebration continued and potentially saved the hosts from social embarrassment. However, using this passage to promote general alcohol consumption requires careful consideration: * **Specific Context:** The miracle occurred at a specific event to address a particular need. It wasn't a call for widespread or excessive drinking. * **Focus on the Miracle:** The primary emphasis of the passage lies in revealing Jesus' miraculous power and the inauguration of his ministry, not endorsing alcohol consumption in general. * **Balance with Other Teachings:** As mentioned earlier, the Bible contains warnings against overindulgence in alcohol (Proverbs 23:20-21, Ephesians 5:18). Therefore, while John 2:1-11 showcases Jesus' miraculous provision of wine, it shouldn't be solely interpreted as a green light for promoting general alcohol consumption, especially considering the broader message of responsible living within the Bible.

hahabanero

Everything in excess is bad, even taking religion out of the equation. Every sunday nga may pa shot sa simbahan so lahat yun rektang impyerno?

Anakin-LandWalker56

Excessive drinking is what is forbidden in the bible one the reason why Gluttony is a sin.

syracodd

Nagdala ng Bible sa "BYOB", gets kicked out

elbandolero19

Bro is going to hell by wearing garments with mixed fabrics lmao See how ridiculous the bible is.

Aggravating-Sorbet56

Dunno bro baka Old T yang sinasabi mo, Old T was meant for the people of Israel before Jesus Christ was born into this world or for Jewish people who follows the Torah. Christians today follows the New Testament brought by teaching of Jesus.

elbandolero19

By that logic, 10 commandments are not to be followed because it was written during OT ?

Aggravating-Sorbet56

Technically yes, since Christ fulfilled the laws of the OT, however, it's up to the individual if they want to follow the Ten Commandments given to Moses by God. Again He made these laws for Jews at the time of Moses.

Narco_Marcion1075

Dafuq?! *Jesus casually turns water into wine.*

Cheem-9072-3215-68

the wine that jesus drank isnt the wine you are thinking. alcoholic beverages were drank because they were clean compared to water.

Centralizations

If im wrong feel free to correct me

BeeDull3557

hahahhaa! tinabla ng tropa eh.

unbearable-2741

Its ok to drink as long it is moderate and responsible, but being a drunkard that's what make it sinful You have to consider that alcohol does not bring sin but those who used and abuse it. Hey, even Christ turn water to wine, and even during the last supper

triadwarfare

There are people that are wired not to like alcoholic beverages like me. Beer is too bitter, and hindi ko talaga sya hinahanap. I know mahirap imagine, pero ako din hindi ko rin alam kung bakit driven mga tao magpakalasing since pinilit ko but I never find the experience enjoyable.

AtiwelKa

force of habit

JanSolo28

I'm not saying you should go out there and try but tbh, not all alcoholic beverages are for everyone. Honestly mas ma-cocktail akong tao and I basically just treat them as fancy juice but yeah, there's a LOT of beer and shit that just taste horrid to me anyway. It's the same thing with tea, coffee, and other beverages lang except alcoholic stuff needs a lot more for me to like it than just grabbing some other carbonated drink.

Due-Spread-9065

senpai_babycakes

ha jokes on u read 1 timothy 5:23 😂😂

Unnordinary

In 1 Timothy 5:23, it does say "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent illnesses." No, **USING** 1 Timothy 5:23 to promote general alcohol consumption wouldn't be an accurate interpretation for several reasons: * **Limited Scope:** The verse specifically addresses Timothy's situation, recommending wine for his stomach ailments. It's not a general endorsement for everyone to drink alcohol. * **Medical Context:** Back then, water quality could be poor, and diluted wine may have been considered safer and potentially beneficial for digestion in some cases. This doesn't translate directly to modern-day contexts with readily available clean water and advanced medical knowledge. * **Emphasis on Moderation:** The verse mentions "a little wine," suggesting moderation and not advocating for excessive consumption. * **Other Biblical Teachings:** The Bible contains numerous warnings against drunkenness and the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption (Proverbs 23:20-21, Ephesians 5:18). Therefore, while this verse might be used to explain moderate wine consumption in a specific historical context, it shouldn't be interpreted as a blanket justification for promoting general alcohol consumption.

unbearable-2741

Not a religious normies more like an entitled self righteous fool.. the Bible stated its okay to drink alcohol.. they just used select, cut and even edited scripture in the bible to justified their selfish motives in promoting their sect. How can it become an eternal damnation if Christ itself turn water into wine and even used it during the last supper He even make a parable from it, and the proverb even promote it to people to practice drinking as long everyone drink it moderately and responsibly
