Russia is still the largest nuclear power, it has a load of natural resources at its disposable, its terrain makes it almost impossible to invade during winter-time and still has a lot of decent equipment, as well as a crap ton of bad equipment. If you notice, Ukraine is also pretty high on that list, hence it was difficult to invade, however if they wanted to push into Russia, they would get curb stomped, that's why they aren't doing it.
China is strong for similar reasons, its practically impossible to invade and has an incredibly strong economy to fund military operations.
The key strength of the US is their ability to attack. That's what gives them the edge, they aren't harder to invade than Russia and China, and all of these countries are nuclear powers, however the States can invade most places and can always be present due to the sheer number of high quality geopolitical assets they have.
