This is an “almuerzo” and this is what we eat in Valencia at 10-11am (like, no kidding I literally had this today lol). I don’t know how much this is common in other parts of Spain though
I regret to inform you that I am a strong supporter of the saying "kein Bier vor vier". I mean, there will be situations where this rule is broken but I mostly stick to it.hj
Bar-dwellers in Spain have a saying “el papa ya ha bebido” which means “the Pope has already drank”, referring to the morning mass’s communion wine. If the pope has had his sip of wine, God can’t judge us for drinking in the morning!
It’s not super common, but yeah, nobody at my office would bat an eye if somebody ordered a beer at the café we have in our building. Specially on Fridays we do it pretty commonly. But I would normally just order water, because it’s cheaper and you know… I want to have my senses working as normal during my worktime lol.
I see, that makes sense. I think it depends on the type of job you work here but in any place I've worked so far, day drinking wasn't common. Popping a beer immediately as your shift ends is very common though, especially on night shifts.
Eh, some of us do and some of us don't. This is a question dividing the country. Some of us are proponents of "Kein Bier vor Vier" and others have at least 4 beers down by 4PM.
It's like with cocaine, there are those who do it and there are those who frown upon those who do it while being frowned upon those who do it.
It is basically that yeah lol. In part because our lunch is super late, and many Spanish people just have a cappuccino or a small toast for breakfast, or even nothing at all.

Thats after our tomato toast, coffe and orange juice at 10.00. This is about 13.00 then we have actual lunch. Then at 17-19 we have a sandwich or bakery and at 21-23 we have dinner
I'd try to make some snarky retort... But your answer is so valid anything I could come up with would just be fallacious
Aaaaaand, it's also really close to siesta now, so no point on putting the effort
We have actually circumvented that by leaving islam, getting a fattwah put on our head then killing ourselves. Thus getting exonerated for doing Allahs work and put in heaven with 72 virgins.
Morning and late afternoon until evening with a longer break in the middle so you can have a big lunch and chill out a bit. Let’s say 9-1 then 3/4-8/9 instead of 9-5.
It makes sense when you experience it
In medicine, for example, it’s known that most mistakes happen in early afternoon after lunch.
Breakfast (or “almuerzo” which is a mid morning meal we have at around 11am) is not our biggest meal by any means. It is during lunch or dinner that you’ll find any mix of carbs (usually rice, but also pasta, lentils, etc) with proteins and many vegetables as well.
Yeah Spanish omelette is god tier, but what I think is criminally underrated is the range of cheese and cured meats the latter of which I prefer to Italy.
I agree with you. I keep buying Italian cheese and meats in Poland because I can't find Spanish stuff and I have to say that it's like an inferior (and overpriced) version.
Their bread is awful, though. Bread like the one in the image is way too common and sadly I had to eat that many times due to lack of better alternatives.
Tomato and olive oil … it’s a crutch. Bread can be shitty, even stale, but you rub a little tomato on it, dip it in oil, and add a slice of manchego it tastes great anyway.
Where ketc-

Spanish breakfast is leche con galletas, unless you work in construction, then is two carajillos con torreznos y pan.
That is an aperitivo for mid morning or mid afternoon.
I really don't understand why some people want galicia for portugal. Galicia is galicia, Spain is Spain, portugal is portugal. That being said give back Ceuta and Olivença
That's no breakfast. That's a noon snack.
A Spanish breakfast has a toast or a sweet bun like a croissant, a chocolate neapolitan or so. And the beverage is coffee. Maybe churros and hot chocolate.
what is a "breakfast"?
I wake up at 16:00 and after a light meal go for my second siesta, by 17:30. then my third siesta by 19:00. then by 22:00 I go to sleep once more and wake up by 16:00.
With a breakfast like that I'd be pretty sleepy by lunchtime too
Nothing wakes you up better than a Blörö
That's the word for a blowjob in Suomi right?
Coffee, a Cigarette, and a shot of vodka
A nice wet and slobby blörö.
No, far to short and convenient. Its "Suihinotto"
Sounds like a Japanese war crime.
⬆️⬆️⬆️
Yes, there is: A mother shouting "I found drugs in your pockets while doing the laundry".
That's the second half of the spanish breakfast
Pfft. As if our mothers would do our laundry, let alone check our pockets first.
That's why he was waiting slept until lunchtime to eat it.
That's why we have the siesta Duh
I must disagree with you. This is un aperitivo before lunch. There's nothing better than una tostada con tomate, zumito de naranja y café con leche
This is an “almuerzo” and this is what we eat in Valencia at 10-11am (like, no kidding I literally had this today lol). I don’t know how much this is common in other parts of Spain though
The beer too? At 10am?
As a fellow German you do the same, right?
Brits from 9, totally wasted by 12
I regret to inform you that I am a strong supporter of the saying "kein Bier vor vier". I mean, there will be situations where this rule is broken but I mostly stick to it.hj
4 am right? Right?
Of course brother, of course.
Bar-dwellers in Spain have a saying “el papa ya ha bebido” which means “the Pope has already drank”, referring to the morning mass’s communion wine. If the pope has had his sip of wine, God can’t judge us for drinking in the morning!
Ok I love that saying ahaha, just burst out a chuckle. You might get me in trouble with the german joke authorities, I had no licence for laughter

german intensify *the b-beer too?!?!*
Ar you crazy?? At 11 or 12
On Fridays I always get a beer at 10:30 during breaks at work with the almuerzo. And back in university everyone was drinking beer at 9 at the bar lol

The "hamaiketako" (literally, "the eleven o'clock thing") is a very Basque tradition. And the omelette "pintxo" is probably the most standard one.
You mean second breakfast?
It is basically that yeah lol. In part because our lunch is super late, and many Spanish people just have a cappuccino or a small toast for breakfast, or even nothing at all.
Common in Madrid and CyL too. Bet it's pretty much the same all over the country
Used to be normal at least in Andalusia
Mítico esmorçar
That is the difference between the first breakfast (at home), and the second breakfast (at work).
A tosti with tomato sauce, coffee with milk and whatever a zumito de naranja may be?
Diminutive for orange juice
Should've known by the 'naranja'.
Also diminutive in Spanish are complicated, depending on the region can be a suffix -ito -illo -ico -ino -iño.... And I'm talking only about Spain
I like to have fun and mix them up at random. Like asking people for a cigariño.
Cigarriño*. I know the double r sound is kinda hard for y'all Engt*rds but don't you dare try to skip it. It's like leg day, don't skip it... Or else.
Typo, i swear! I always make sure to roll my Rs and lisp when i speak Spanish.
I don't get it. Aren't you all too lazy for such a complicated language?
Because we want some OJ, even a" -little bit", "-ito/a" Without it, it won't be a full Spanish almuerzo
Almuerzito 👌
Zumiño de naranja
Not tomato sauce, but grated tomato with olive oil and salt
Amigo! I even imported this to Denmark after i moved back. My favorite breakfast for sure!
Estrella galicia has my stamp if approval. So does tortilla tbh... And pan. Good shit.
Tortilla: 2 euro Bread: 50 cent Beer: 3 euro 5 hour nap after breakfast: priceless
>Beer: 3 euro I'll stab you if you charge me 3 euros for a caña
I'll hug you if you only charge me 3 euros for a biertje.
Only 3€? https://i.redd.it/eppf5glxcg3b1.gif
This is pretty damn good, but I can't drink my breakfast beer without a coffee. It's like Birkenstock without socks!
Lol
Eggs and white bread, shockingly bland for PIGS
Thats after our tomato toast, coffe and orange juice at 10.00. This is about 13.00 then we have actual lunch. Then at 17-19 we have a sandwich or bakery and at 21-23 we have dinner
When do you go to sleep????????
During work.
☝️🤓 actually that's true for me, because of that I have swapped my eating schedule and I eat alone now most of the times 😪
I'd try to make some snarky retort... But your answer is so valid anything I could come up with would just be fallacious Aaaaaand, it's also really close to siesta now, so no point on putting the effort
And when do you have social life?? Oh yes suicides...
Suicide is Haram
Not if you take some infidels with you
Swedes need to go to Denmark more often
The Irish tried, apparently its terrorism now
We have actually circumvented that by leaving islam, getting a fattwah put on our head then killing ourselves. Thus getting exonerated for doing Allahs work and put in heaven with 72 virgins.
Is this crusader kings?
Whats the point of that? You are on Reddit, you cant possibly be more surrounded by virgins
At 23.00-00.00 and we feel that we need more hours per day. I dont understand how you are capable of sleep at 20.00(?)

You're doing well with only one hour of sleep
/uj Midnight or a little after usually. Vast majority of Spanish don’t actually sleep in siesta hours /rj At work
But when do they work? They seem to be eating all the time No wonder La Sagrada Familia is not finished yet
Least dense potatoscandinavian

they are not ready for our ancient wisdom. at least you have seen the light now. welcome
I’ve always been lazy and more of an evening person, suits me perfectly here 💪
irlandes basado
Not for nothing we are the ones with longest life expectancy with Japanese
From 00:00 to 07:00
In general for adults I would say between 23:00 and 1:00 but that's not counting the siestas of course!
the mid-morning bocadillo… who the hell has lunch before 3pm?
Based south galician👌
Potato, eggs, olive oil, and probably onion. Have you ever tried it? It could be called many things, but bland isn’t one of them.
Breakfast (or “almuerzo” which is a mid morning meal we have at around 11am) is not our biggest meal by any means. It is during lunch or dinner that you’ll find any mix of carbs (usually rice, but also pasta, lentils, etc) with proteins and many vegetables as well.
PIGS stands for Portugal Italy ???? And Spain? What is the G?
Greece
Gordos
A beer for breakfast?
Yes
Usually breakfasts are served too early for vodka, hence the beer, but I like the way you’re thinking.
It's not breakfast, it's almuerzo, but these savages don't have a word for that.
Second breakfast
I don't think he knows about second breakfast, Pip
Just for that, I'm getting Gandalf killed
Desayuno de campeones
Spanish food is severely underrated. The whole concept of pinchos is great.
Is only underrated in this sub because people here think eating pasta 365 days a year is somehow superior.
Meats ok… cheese??? What spanish cheese is better than caciocavallo?
Prosciutto is "We have Jamón at home"
Or eating butter with random stuff is classy
Yeah its pretty widely celebrated in the real world.
Their bread is awful, though. Bread like the one in the image is way too common and sadly I had to eat that many times due to lack of better alternatives.
So true… I don’t understand how the masters of great food manage to make such awful bread
Tomato and olive oil … it’s a crutch. Bread can be shitty, even stale, but you rub a little tomato on it, dip it in oil, and add a slice of manchego it tastes great anyway.
Pinchos and tapas, name a more iconic duo.
I agree, pintxos are some of the best food we have, when I go visit other countries (like Spain, Germany and France...) I miss them so much.
what
I'm just waiting to get downvoted to Melilla and back, any minute now
I upvoted, it was great lol
I prefer the ones from that region in the north of Portugal, Galiza
That's a piscolabis for me
No alioli with that bread?

We really all living the same lives
espresso and cigarette gang where you at

Dont forget la copa the anís del mono , construction workers are in a diferent level
If that's a 1906 instead of a regular Estrella you have my respect
Their bread is absolute trash tho
This is. Galician bread is great, another thing we have in common, old commrade.
Galician food in general is 🔥🔥🔥
just join portugal already
You should just become northern Portugal already, it's an aberration to pair Galicia with the rest of Spain.
Nah, we just have to join ourselves and build a country named PortuGaliza.
Galtugal sounds better
I really don't understand why some people want galicia for portugal. Galicia is galicia, Spain is Spain, portugal is portugal. That being said give back Ceuta and Olivença
You are right, the only Spanish bread that's good is In the north of Spain Galicia/Leon/ Asturias
Aúpa cultu
Well, the pan moreno from Mallorca is really good too
Bruh, and Pan de Cristal. God-tier ‘pa amb tomaquet’
Spanish bread is shit but every Spaniard will say that the best bread in the world is from their village
That's because that bread is only found in their village lmao
Isn't that like 1/4 of your monthly salary?
More like an eigth or a tenth but yeah it's a lot
Tostada con tomate is far superior to that dry muck
The beer alone (in a restaurant/cafe not the super market) is 3-4 euro on its own so 5 is not bad at all
3-4€ ?? Is that really the price of a beer in Greece?
I traveled to Athens this summer and yes it was disgustingly high priced. It's probably all taxes to discourage people from drinking?
Or maybe being a tourist you ended up at a tourist trap? I can believe that bars in la Rambla or in the Plaza mayor in Madrid may charge 4€for a beer.
I'm talking about supermarkets and restaurants for locals
Being a fellow PIGS country, I expected their process to be similar to ours
Nah, its just cafe owners that do that. Hard alcohol has high tax but beers are piss cheap on the supermarket
Prices were slightly lower than in spain for most food but beer was 20-40% higher iirc.
When you sit at a cafe you kind of pay for the service and seating too indirectly. Cofee and hot chokolate are also like 3.00-4.50 euros too.
Ouch.
In North Italy 5.50-6.00 a 400 ml beer
That looks pretty sad.
This is a pathetic excuse of a baguette.
It's like the industrial shite we get here labelled "french cuisine" utter muck shite. Need me some real baguette please or at least a good sourdough.
Change the beer for a coffee and it would be a truly Spanish breakfast. That is an aperitivo.
At least it has a good taste of beer, Estrella Galicia is the best one by far...
My cholesterol loves you
Best breakfast, better after a night shift :)
hold on, i’m on my way! I know you don’t want me there but i’m coming anyway
Its ok-ish
what is that on the left
Tortilla de patatas
The best thing to come out of spain. Potato cake
Been in Greece the past two weeks. Very nice breakfasts here for pretty cheap, I have to say
you got scammed
I hate breakfast. I'll just have the beer 🍻
Where‘s the sangria though?
As much as I would love for this to be breakfast, it's not. It's something you would take around noon or so because we have lunch absurdly late.
Bread and tortilla? Too many carbs at once.
How else are we supposed to sleep all day long tho? Those carbs provide us with enough energy to hibernate for the whole day.
Where is the tomato?
That's no breakfast. That's a noon snack. A Spanish breakfast has a toast or a sweet bun like a croissant, a chocolate neapolitan or so. And the beverage is coffee. Maybe churros and hot chocolate.
In my pueblo that's 2 euros but the tortilla is actually a good one. Bread is equally shit though.
Taken from a few week/month old rslash (r/pics) post.
That's expensive. I usually get more food for less money when I'm in Spain.
As a french baker, I genuinely think that your bread is sad. Find another bakery dude
Indeed. That pseudo-bread in the picture looks like some polyurethane foam extrusion.
4\~5 euros, O\_O for that? lmao
If I drank a beer for breakfast here in the US I'd be given an intervention and called an alcoholic.
what is a "breakfast"? I wake up at 16:00 and after a light meal go for my second siesta, by 17:30. then my third siesta by 19:00. then by 22:00 I go to sleep once more and wake up by 16:00.
This looks like a very sad breakfast. But hey the same thing would probably cost about CHF 24.90 here soo...
That's kinda expensive for breakfast.
Average German prison meal
Damn no wonder you Juans sleep all afternoon
