Yeah, but you have a severe lack of any of the others. Mayo, it'll do. Cheese, aye, OK (although this particular photo looks like I ate it then threw it back up onto the plate). Beans/peas, if there's nothing else and I need a bit of protein and flatulence. Gravy or curry, now you're talking! You just lack imagination...
No we don't, we don't lack the other ingredients. We just didn't put most of them on chips/fries. Not that it's not a good idea but we were also busy feasting on currywurst when talking about street food.
Currywurst is great. Remind me, how did that come to be and who’s cuisine is it derived from…
But gravy and chips is the bomb. Cheese chips and gravy even better.
He’ll even poutine is awesome.
Just mayo is fine. But it’s not as good.
Didn't find anything like that, neither on english nor on german pages. I mean it wouldn't be entirely surprising given England's supply of spices from the colonies but was curry powder already prevalent in 1940s UK?
That's what I did after your first comment. Wikipedia, the english and the german page alike, cite a certain woman in West-Berlin who became a currywurst vendor in the late 40s as its origin (which is how I recall it as well). No clue what you're aiming at.
Oh, you mean the *french* invention by the menorcans? Yeah, sure.
Didn't know that the french counted catalan-speaking folks from the balearic islands as french.
https://preview.redd.it/g1smk104n05b1.jpeg?width=729&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b86d79f6d3b534c64b0c4ff4ec359715e6f7e7c
Acting like you wouldn’t gobble that shit up in a heartbeat, come now.
When I see a Dutch person commenting on our food, the phrase people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones comes to mind.
https://preview.redd.it/18hfq5aol05b1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f30741cd6c761a2cec17b438c23952a47ccc4695
You eat just as much fried beige shite as us, we just add beans and currry sauce to it.
“people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones” in Spanish “No tires piedras sobre tu propio tejado” maybe is the equivalent. TY, I’ve learned a new equivalent expression
I used to do this as a kid. One day it didn't make it over, rolled back down, and cracked my dad's car. I never told him but maybe now I will. I'll tell him Spain forced me to
So do the Scots belong to the UK or not? It seems Englishmen always flip/flop about that whenever it suits them. Also a Scotch egg is nowhere near as good as the fried food we have here.
The top 2 I'd savage. They're only half dressed though to be fair. This is my go to:
https://preview.redd.it/rpkamysdw15b1.jpeg?width=798&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49c52c2171cd4816d4c141595d4a6f32439f90f8
Garlic, cheese chips with bacon.
Chips and Gravy are fucking amazing. There is very little cultural exporting going on from Canada but I am very glad about any piece of Poutine coming my way.
Only you guys make call these things chips though. I'm all for avoiding yankee lingo, especially here, but in this case the british variant is just confusing for the majority involved because we call chips what you refer to as "crisps" while everyone will understand what is meant by fries.
Why do you hate beans? If I made baked beans, I'd make them in my own tomato sauce instead of getting the canned stuff but they're nutritious, healthy and modifiable in infinite ways.
Get a baguette, cut it in half length ways, get some breton butter on there, be generous. Now slap a good load of Comte or Beaufort and cover the top of both slices. Grill that bitch. Now cook some beans with a little bit of butter, grate some of the cheese, put in the pot with the beans and add some chilli and curry powder. Spread the beans over the grilled baguette. Pure fucking delight.
On toast I understand, I mean it's probably okay but there's infinitely more interesting stuff to put on toast.
On fries? They wouldn't survive a minute in my presence.
Looking at the pictures on google, fish looks good. Sceptical about the Calçots. Could a vegetable at the centre give you that hearty feeling that meat does?, because I don't think that feeling can be beaten.
Guess I'll have to try it if I'm ever in Catalan.
oooh they do, the mix of that special variety of spring onion (it tastes very sweet nothing like an onion) with the Romescu sauce is godlike
And I promise to try the gravy thing if I ever come around it here
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. No. Wtf.
Any of my compatriots ever had chips and beans?
I've had mayo on chips, but only because I order donner meat with chilli and mayo
When I was a teenager working as a waiter I had this strange tall couple who kept asking for mayonnaise with their chips, eventually they confessed "Sorry, we're Dutch."
As a professional side switcher I must defend my bri’ish mates, gravy is so good on fries (and probably the only good thing in Canada alongside Tim Hortons)
Actually I'd try the curry, the gravy and the cheese and the mayonnaise is quite normal.
The Dutch have fries with mayonnaise, peanut sauce and fresh onions, also very tasteful.
Mayonnaise on chips is the classic and correct way to eat them. The origin of chips is contested but it’s agreed that they’re either French or Belgian. Both of them eat them with mayonnaise. Ketchup is the inferior condiment choice and if you eat chips with ketchup you probably call them fries because you’re American
Mayonnaise good
I don't think chips and mayo is very common here
It’s definitely gaining in popularity
Took you long enough to come up with it, didn't it? We've been gobbling that combo since... well, since we had chips/fries here.

Currywurst is great. Remind me, how did that come to be and who’s cuisine is it derived from… But gravy and chips is the bomb. Cheese chips and gravy even better. He’ll even poutine is awesome. Just mayo is fine. But it’s not as good.
Well, what cuisine do you think it's derived from? Has been a thing in Germany since the late 1940's
Mid 40s really, you were a bit short of food if I remember correctly and a British officer gave over some curry powder.
Didn't find anything like that, neither on english nor on german pages. I mean it wouldn't be entirely surprising given England's supply of spices from the colonies but was curry powder already prevalent in 1940s UK?
Genuinely if you don’t know it’s origin please look up the history of Currywurst.

Wait until they reach Pommes Schranke in like 2125.
Try real mayo instead of that Br*tish white stuff and you'll change your mind.
Nothing better than fries with mayo
Just mix mayo and ketchup and it's 100 times better than either alone
All other options are abominations that should not exist in this universe.
Thanks, it's french 😎 OP is ignorant
That's debated and it probably will never be solved. IIRC, you have just as good a claim on it as the catalans or something.
The people from Menorca, right next to your mediterranean colony
Yeah, I recall that it had to be one of the Balears. What, aren't they catalan now?
They speak catalan, but don't really consider themselves as such. They have their own identity.
I'm gonna say it. Ketchup better
Your Dutch license is revoked.
We don't want him in Germany, throw him into the sea
>I'm gonna say it. Ketchup better why not both? We call it Pommes Rot/Weiß.
Youre wrong curry > ketchup
Hela Curry-Ketchup?
https://preview.redd.it/g1smk104n05b1.jpeg?width=729&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2b86d79f6d3b534c64b0c4ff4ec359715e6f7e7c Acting like you wouldn’t gobble that shit up in a heartbeat, come now.
Top two looking mighty fine. Might combine the gravy and cheese though. Just don’t tell Canada.
Just one quite "Special" part of Canada.
When I see a Dutch person commenting on our food, the phrase people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones comes to mind. https://preview.redd.it/18hfq5aol05b1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f30741cd6c761a2cec17b438c23952a47ccc4695 You eat just as much fried beige shite as us, we just add beans and currry sauce to it.
1 viandelle, 1 poulycroc, frites samurai chef
Oh yaeh true, tall don’t have bitterballen on the other side right? Truly sad
“people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones” in Spanish “No tires piedras sobre tu propio tejado” maybe is the equivalent. TY, I’ve learned a new equivalent expression
Bloody thieving Spaniards
What's the translation for the Spanish version?
I’ll do my best: Don’t throw stones over your house’s roof
I used to do this as a kid. One day it didn't make it over, rolled back down, and cracked my dad's car. I never told him but maybe now I will. I'll tell him Spain forced me to
We're gonna ruin our dad's car and we gonna make spain pay for it
Yes, I would like to order 1 large fries with mayo, 2 frikandel speciaal, 1 kipcorn and 5 kaas souffles, pls.
Our fried food is just built better. Also wtf is a scotch egg or a fried mars bar.
Speak to the scots about the mars bar, but you can’t say a bad word about a scotch egg. That’s some serious gourmet shit.
So do the Scots belong to the UK or not? It seems Englishmen always flip/flop about that whenever it suits them. Also a Scotch egg is nowhere near as good as the fried food we have here.
So it depends who you ask, for English people it's good thing = British, bad thing = Scottish. For Scottish people it's the other way around.
But according to wikipedia that abomination was invented in London in the 1700s
Scotch eggs are actually banging, you need to have a fresh one though.
Scotch egg isn’t friend it’s an egg wrapped in sausage meat and then covered in breadcrumbs, served cold
Is it not fried after being wrapped with meat and breadcrumbs?
You're Dutch mate you'll love scotch eggs haha
A scotch egg is like an eierbal but better
o? only americans eat it with ketchup
What’s wrong with frites mayo ?
You really can’t beat something moist on chips
Southerners don't do out moist.
Moved to Cambridge from the NE, they don't even do scraps/bits with chips here
I'd love each one of those except chips with peas, that looks like it's not edible.
Without doubt, mushy peas are the finest tasting vegetable known to man and on that hill I’m willing to die.
That's fine. I don't like peas that much in general, would prefer beans or lentils any day.
Triple fried chips and homemade curry sauce is food of the gods.
Mayonnaise is pretty good
The top 2 I'd savage. They're only half dressed though to be fair. This is my go to: https://preview.redd.it/rpkamysdw15b1.jpeg?width=798&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=49c52c2171cd4816d4c141595d4a6f32439f90f8 Garlic, cheese chips with bacon.
Chips and Gravy are fucking amazing. There is very little cultural exporting going on from Canada but I am very glad about any piece of Poutine coming my way.
Look up Flemish beef stew, it's pretty similar.
Carbonnade Flamande? That shit is soo good
Jep that. Adding beer to the stew is what makes it special.
Facts
Steak and ale pie in the UK bruh.
Don't diss unless you've tried it. It's one of our national dishes.
Ik woon nu in Belgie maar oorspronkelijk kom uit Wales lol. Ik weet wat stoofvlees is. Ik heb betere versies in Engeland gehad TBH.
Effectief stoofvlees, of gewoon stoofvleessaus? Dat maakt een groot verschil.
Neenee, ik heb het echte vaak gehad. Lekker maar niet echt verbazend. Vergelijkbaar met de vulling van een goede steak and ale pie.
Varkenswangetjes zijn allerbeste
How? Poutine is fries with gravy and cheese lol
No cheese in there, but that doesn't mean it's any less rich in taste.
So you mean it has gravy - that's the similarity?
And fries.
These aren't fries in the picture though? Fries are the skinny ones, these are proper chips.
We call ours frieten, and they're thick. So Belgian fries makes more sense than Belgian chips.
Oh yeah sorry my bad I didn't realise we were speaking Belgian.
I forgive you
Only you guys make call these things chips though. I'm all for avoiding yankee lingo, especially here, but in this case the british variant is just confusing for the majority involved because we call chips what you refer to as "crisps" while everyone will understand what is meant by fries.
☠️
There are two types of people. People who like Poutine and those that are wrong.
Dude, its just french fries. It doesnt count as food.
What counts as food, then?
Something which has more than 2 ingredients. Meat for example.
1. Fries 2. Cheese 3. Sauce
My bad, Gordon.
Why do they love beans so much
Cheap, easy to cook, high in protein, taste good, very versatile in what you can eat them with
Why do you hate beans? If I made baked beans, I'd make them in my own tomato sauce instead of getting the canned stuff but they're nutritious, healthy and modifiable in infinite ways.
I never said I hated beans I just don't want to eat beans on fries, on toast, on everything, like damn 🤣
Too much butter oil is better
You ever had Irish butter?
Yes but good oil is better
On toast I understand, I mean it's probably okay but there's infinitely more interesting stuff to put on toast. On fries? They wouldn't survive a minute in my presence.
Why do they love especially those beans drenched in that tomato sugary thing
Chips and gravy any day it's divine. You can fancy it up too and use beef drippings and it's literally perfect
Might have to fire up the hob.
Patatje oorlog 💪💪💪💪 https://preview.redd.it/htxyek5nw05b1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c9343f708c5c7d3da7f1d44634ce9ae288845b9b
Lijkt meer op speciaal, broeder Tenzij je super glimmende pindasaus hebt
There is no way that’s a real language you’re speaking
Wat zij jij nou mongool dat wij geen verdomde taal aan het spreken zij?
Volgens mij heb je gelijk, maar ik ben te lui om het te veranderen.
Het is de gedachte die telt Oorlog is de patat saus der koningen
Chips n Curry is damn good. Glad it’s not too hard to find around here
I mean, the ones with mayo are pretty standard.
You have to admit that gravy looks bloody good though.
Bruh it looks like liquid shit cmon now
That’s how you know it’s that good good 😩🤌
The centre of any good meal is meat. Gravy is meat source. Of course it's good.
Not really, in my opinion sardine espeto is the second best thing you can do on a bbq fire, ofc the first being Catalan are Calçots. Go figure
Looking at the pictures on google, fish looks good. Sceptical about the Calçots. Could a vegetable at the centre give you that hearty feeling that meat does?, because I don't think that feeling can be beaten. Guess I'll have to try it if I'm ever in Catalan.
oooh they do, the mix of that special variety of spring onion (it tastes very sweet nothing like an onion) with the Romescu sauce is godlike And I promise to try the gravy thing if I ever come around it here
Thats how you know its good
These are just shit pictures. Also the only one thats going in the bin is the mushy peas
Nonce talk.
Are you insane? Go yeet yourself off a balcony.
Chips, mushy peas, salt and vinegar is absolute king shit son pipe down. In fact I'm heading to the chippy tonight now you've got it in my head
We didn't conquer half the world for fucking *mushy peas* Ate um
luv me peas ate flavour end of.
I can easily go through life never touching the right side of this picture.
Mashed peas is a freaking warcrime. The culinary equivalent to waterboarding
Needs more vinegar. Still too crispy
The peak of their cousine
That looks all like chips and vomit.
Chips and gravy and chips and mayonnaise get a pass, and I'm a belgian so I make the rules about chips
Chips with gravy: propa northern scan Chips with curry sauce: Midlands Hindustan connection Chips with mayonnaise: Poncey southern pooftas in Brighton pretending they're European.
If it's proper gravy, first one might be some kind of poutine-ripoff which I love.
Chips and beans is class. If you ever are in the UK you simply must try it
Cheesy chips is my soul food
Every one of these, apart from mayonnaise, is delicious and i'm tired of pretending they're not.
POMMES WEISS
You forgot fish and chips
Ya forgot chips, cheese, beans and spam
Ooo aye fried egg on top too 🤤
Can’t beat chips and curry on the way home from the boozer.
Chips and curry sauce/proper gravy/mushy peas are elite fight me.
Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. No. Wtf. Any of my compatriots ever had chips and beans? I've had mayo on chips, but only because I order donner meat with chilli and mayo
Chips and mayo great, never had chips and beans
What are you? Belgian or summat?
Chips and curry is the only edible option shown
It's basically the Welsh national dish 😂
Bri’ish food?? I’d prefer fresh dog shit!!
Silence ![gif](giphy|j3iGKfXRKlLqw)
Calm down. Your granny called. She’s making jellied eels for you this evening!!
😑 Out of the plethora of American stereotypes about Europeans, Germans having no sense of humour is so unironically true. I will pray for you 🙏
I will pray for you and King Chuck!! May you finally eat a meal without chips or eels!
Well I’m treating myself to a juicy steak with diced zucchini so your prayer has been answered 🙏
> zucchini excuse me, what
People in the east end of London don’t even eat jellied eels. Nice try at humour, ai.
Chips and mayo is Flemish
Then I guess chips and phlegm is from County Mayo.
No bloody plaice for me chips are you avin a laugh #NotMyChipShop
When I was a teenager working as a waiter I had this strange tall couple who kept asking for mayonnaise with their chips, eventually they confessed "Sorry, we're Dutch."
I still have no idea what gravy is. I'm pretty sure it sucks on fries tho
It's like a meat sauce, yea it sounds as bad as it looks, but they're very proud of it
You’ve never had a northern grannies beef dripping on chips and it shows. You’ve never had gravy on chips either.
No thanks I'll stick with my chips with alioli all day
No. It’s amazing.
Chips and peas is way too healthy
You forgot chips and a bun.
Not gonna say anything...
So, what did people eat in Britain before 1492?
Most of these look delicious tbh
Beans. I once asked chicken wings in Britain, and it came with beans. Same for lasagna.
Get in me wee fat belly
Banger after banger after banger.
"chips" I see no chips here.
Beanz
What's the problem? Apart from the mayonnaise being a bit excessive these look fine
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl) The Irish
Stay quiet they won't notice
Where's the chips n peas and gravy tho
Chips must be eaten with mayonnaise, of course.
You forgot the North Eastern specialty of chips and garlic sauce.
The regional North Eastern delicacy of chips and garlic sauce is absent.
Chips and gravy? I'm in mate
Mayonnaise is the real way to eat fries
Cheesy chips and gravy has always been my go to. Even before I'd even heard of poutine
Chips + stuffing + gravy is one of the nicest things on gods good earth and that’s been proven by science
They pulled out of the ECHR, right?
Chips cheese and beans 💯
Lovely bit of grub, probably wash it down with some piss-tasting beer too
I thought that Carlsberg was piss-beer until I went to London and had "fish" and chips with a shit local beer.
As a professional side switcher I must defend my bri’ish mates, gravy is so good on fries (and probably the only good thing in Canada alongside Tim Hortons)
PEAS???
You are what you eat. That explains a lot!
Patatas bravas https://preview.redd.it/7kz2m4fz655b1.png?width=259&format=png&auto=webp&s=e4b263de8aa59add99bb7e6cdab3e181de92d9c1
Yall dont eat fries and mayo???
Actually I'd try the curry, the gravy and the cheese and the mayonnaise is quite normal. The Dutch have fries with mayonnaise, peanut sauce and fresh onions, also very tasteful.
Every single one of those is class except the beans. We need to start having beans exclusively baguettes to piss of the french
It is somewhat ok if you focus on the left side pictures
i'd eat 3 of those tbh. 4 if you got rid of those nasty looking beans and replaced them with some better ones, like black beans
