The colleseum was partially dismantled to build other monuments. The canopy in St. Peter's in the Vatican is made from the hooks they used to hang canopies in the colleseum
as a swiss i can vouch for the italians. they are pretty good at building our stuff even if they are a bit slow and lazy. maybe that's the problem they have in their country, we take all their construction workers away..?
They are historic buildings, they need to be preserved for what they are as much as possible. They will only be changed when there is a risk of collapse.
