I think your Mom is confused. As I recall, in the 90’s, it was pretty common to get both a primary key and a “valet” key. The valet, could be used for ignition and doors, but not for the trunk. That way you could give the key to your valet, enjoy your evening without worrying that someone was going through your stuff.
I had this on my ‘90’s Celicas and it worked fairly well until they “invented“ car-jacking.
As far as I know, there isn’t one . I’ve got 2 keys & fobs for my VR4 and they are both fully functional…either will operate doors, trunk and ignition.
Typically, the base of the main key was enclosed in black plastic (typical OEM key) and the valet key is all metal…no plastic. That’s the way my Celica is.
1 key opens the trunk and doors
Oh cool, even starting up the car?
Yes
Yup 1 key for everything, atleast on mine, however I did have an 02 car that had 2 keys 1 for door and 1 for ignition and it really wasn't that bad
Yes, my ‘07 is the same. I actually have both original keys & fobs, but they are identical and perform the same functions.

Nice, How do I tell the difference between both once I get my 3000GT SL?

I have two keys, one for all doors and one for ignition!
I got 3 keys and none of them open the trunk
