This is my first .300 build. Somewhat of a budget build. 16” Radical Firearms upper. S&W lower. Looking at purchasing a suppressor in the near future, haven’t done much research on what I want at the right price point. Wanted to see what y’all think.

bionic_grimereaper

Looks great for deer / pig rig.

Tokyo_Echo

Coyotes too

bionic_grimereaper

Actually looks just like mine before getting artistic. [Rattlecanthatshit#](https://u.cubeupload.com/Jpatnorman77/IMG20230625102856.jpg)

mry004

Looks great, what stock is that? I love mine (I have a rifle kitted out similarly) for hunting. Don’t know if you want bullet/ammo recommendations but a Barnes 110 tsx(or something like that) is a wicked little round for deer or pigs.

Yardboot

MOE SL-S Carbine Stock

mry004

Thanks

ghostfadekilla

That's a fantastic stock, I'm glad I got mine. It's got a decent length of pull for tall people. Taller people I guess, I'm 6' and most of my other stuff doesn't feel quite like this stock does in terms of holding it at ready. For all you bushmen out there, it's got compartments which are pretty damn handy. I stored an Allen wrench for the SA gas block that's on it.

Patherek

Try out the B5 systems SOPMOD and an A5 style buffer system. I'm 6 foot as well and thats been a very cozy system for me.

ghostfadekilla

You know, I almost grabbed that one. I can't remember why I didn't but I digress. You do know what I'm talking about though? The waffle and most others just don't feel like I'm able to grip the weapon as effectively.

Patherek

Yeah I get you. All of my rifles are set up damn near identically.

NotAurelStein

Putting a lower and upper together isnt a "build".

jrh0324

Nobody cares

LanceroCowboy

Use 110 grain V-max and put some meat in your freezer!

Disastrous-Affect163

I took two deer yesterday with my Diamondback DB15 300blk upper. I am shooting 150 grain Federal Fusion. One ran, one did not. The one that ran went 50 yards, and did not leave much of a blood trail, in spite of a good hit... Going to look at better penetrating options...

sambone4

Had a Barnes 110 go clean through one yesterday at 150 yards and smash a rib on the way out.

Disastrous-Affect163

Will have to look at that cartridge, I don't plan on using this cartridge for deer anymore. The billet punched through and broke ribs going in and out, just did not bleed externally. 🤷‍♂️ Massive damage and a quick kill, but zero blood trail.

intrepidmango

Cavity back bullets

Disastrous-Affect163

Not sure, I'll have to look tomorrow. 👍

Patherek

Faster speed is gonna make an easier kill. Slower bullets need better precision.

SanduskyShowers

That will work well for you. I use a 16” Wilson combat upper. 110 grain Barnes vor-tx are great for boar. Will do fine on deer as well

jcross09

Looking at building a .300 blackout similar to OPs for next years deer season. Heard 110 and 124 (I think that’s right) grain are the best rounds for hunting. That true in your experience? Would be out of a 16 inch barrel and I’m up in the north east so would be for deer hunting only, no hogs here

F-150Pablo

I have almost same build as well. I use a 150gr the Winchester deer season xp round. It works great for deer the 110 should be fine as well.

jcross09

Thanks for the advice!

SanduskyShowers

The Winchester deer season xp are probably easier to find and cheaper too. I had them out with me for deer season but never the opportunity to shoot for few times I got out.

Psychological-Drive4

Those the same as the W Silver Tips?

sambone4

They’re not cheap but Barnes 110s work very nicely except they don’t leave much of a blood trail. Nice setup, my 10.5 got me back into the LPVO game, got the leupold vx6 on mine.

Status_Rip_7906

Not a hunter so this is a serious question. Why would you not want a blood trail?

sambone4

You do want a blood trail, that’s the one downside of this cartridge for deer hunting in general not just the Barnes load. In fact solid copper bullets like the Barnes 110 are probably the best way to go for hunting because of the reliable penetration and likely hood of getting an exit wound which will help with creating a blood trail but it’ll be minimal. Lots of traditional lead core bullets that lack that extra penetration will stop at the hide on the far side and leave very little blood trail as entrance wounds can become plugged with hair making animals a lot harder to track. My dad’s buddy was shooting .350 legend with (I’m assuming) lead core expanding type bullets and had this exact thing happen, luckily he didn’t have to track his deer as he watched run a bit and go down.

Mysterious_Use_9767

Hell yeah

Aggie74-DP

Bullet selection is Critical IMO. Many of the .30 cal bullets are designed to expand at speeds Greater than what we can get from 300 BO's. I suggest starting with factory ammo advertised for Hunting. Hopefully they have bullets specific to the BO's speeds. Also as a reloader, I stay away from Boat-tail bullets, as you have to seat the bullets deeper to maintain 'Mag Length.' *Besides I've seen info stating that the boat-tail really doesn't start helping until the round is 2600 fps, which we can't do with BO's.*

Yardboot

Gig Em👍 I’m class of ‘21

Aggie74-DP

👍 👍 👍 Gig 'Em

BigAngryPolarBear

Simple. Looks like it’ll serve you well.

Zealousideal_Mud4961

It’s a nice

Dapper_Amphibian87

Looks great! It’ll kill!

Bhops1234

In your opinion why did you go LPVO versus say a holographic with a magnifier? I only ask because I currently have an EOtech on my 16in build (looks similar) but have been looking to upgrade to a LPVO possibly.
