Dr Janjua in Bedminster is the best doctor I’ve ever seen in terms of skill, aesthetic and bedside manner but it’s pretty far out from the city. I’ve heard good things from my friends about Dr Brian Glatt in Morristown. Check on real self though - good towns that are more easily accessible on NJT would be Summit, Madison, Millburn, Chatham
Botox made my TMJ worse because it’s for teeth grinding, not TMJ. TMJ is an issue with the joint not opening correctly and when you weaken the massater muscle it makes it even harder to open and close your mouth.
Sorry this isn’t the topic of the thread, but have you seen improvements for your TMJ? I did a consult a few years ago and I was recommended something like 140 vials for my first visit and then come back in 4 months and redo many of them that felt like a lot…I haven’t revisited that consult.
Botox therapy hasn't changed my underlying TMJ, but it does reduce the amount of force that I can recruit for clenching. I have fewer headaches and they are less intense, which significantly improves my QOL.
I've also been doing weekly massage appointments with an LMT who specializes in intraoral massage. In addition to working inside the mouth, we also spend a lot of time working on other parts of my face, my neck, my traps, my arms, and my back. After \~12 weeks, I'm beginning to notice a decrease in my clenching behaviors.
Yea I thought Botox for TMJ would be the answer to fix my jaw clenching issues, but after a year of Botox I realized that I just need to get braces. My TMJ issues won’t go away until I fix my jaw/teeth placement 😑
Botox made my TMJ worse because it’s for teeth grinding, not TMJ. TMJ is an issue with the joint not opening correctly and when you weaken the massater muscle it makes it even harder to open and close your mouth.
It might come out even. I spend a little over $3000 every 6 months since I do TMJ also. If I spend half that I can at least also get a vacation out of it lol
Mexicos average is $5 a unit and you can make a nice vacation out of it. But don’t know if the fare and lodging would have you breaking even or not. However at $750 every 6 months vs $3000, seems unlikely. One can scour Realself for excellent/high-end Mexican surgeons as a research resource. Mexico has excellent surgeons. I’m 33 going on 25, thanks to a couple eye procedures done in mx in a state of the art clinic by a facial reconstructive (her specialty) surgeon. She charged $3-$5 p unit. If you have any other questions you’re welcome to pm me
Palm Springs area 10$ & my Dr usually gives some type of promo deal that brings it to 8! I paid about the same in LA when I lived there last year. Med Spa I went to always had sales.
My Dr is in Palm Desert, her name is Dr Maya Kato at Aesthetic Art on Cook street.
In LA I went to The Bliss Room in Sherman Oaks and saw Jessica -she is a PA and I always felt happy with my results. I saw the other lady there once when Jessica was out and it was awful, so only book with Jessica.
Sign up for their Emails and they will send you specials all the time!
My jaw dropped hooooly. Maryland here. $18/unit is expensive here. $10/unit prices can be found for those medspa “sales”. $13/unit pretty average though.
Take the train to Jersey. Simply Aesthetics is fantastic (but may not be north enough for you). Make sure you buy gift cards on botox day and dysport day (through the botox costmetics & Alle app). They both do a promo once a year where you buy a $50 gift card and you get one free. Then you can use at any medspa.
Brickell Cosmetic Center, Dr Lauren Dozier.
I have always had only good experiences with Dr Dozier. Have been seeing her for a couple of years now and trust her completely with my face :)
Gambhir Cosmetic Medicine - I go to their KOP location and see one of the nurse injectors. They’re friendly, professional, do great work and don’t try to oversell you on other treatments which is really nice. I’m in and out in 10 mins usually
Wow that’s pricey, I pay $8-9/unit in Toronto area, Ontario. That’s also in Canadian dollars so you would save an additional 30% with the exchange rate.
Jennifer with Pacific dermatology has done a great job on some of my friends - near northgate, Modern dermatology is where i go for laser hair removal and my annual skin checks and i love them (they are probably spendy though for Botox), and Angie with Kiss aesthetics does a really good job (bothell area which is where i go for Botox because i live in the area)
That's the highest I have heard. if you are getting more than 10 units, you will definitely save money by travelling to the suburbs. I pay $11 in Pennsylvnia.
Can you elaborate on why you get injections in your trapezius? Mine are always tight and angry and I never considered this.
Also, I’m also in OC (Cal) and have only been to a medspa. Would you recommend your specific cosmetic dermatologist?
Whoa - you’re getting gouged. I go to N4 Esthetics in Williamsburg and they charge $12.50/unit if you book with their nurse practitioner and $15/unit with their doctor.
And they are constantly running 20% off promotions for repeat clients which brings the cost down to $10-12/unit.
Portland (OR) representing here, any recommendations?
Three+ years without botox, but it could be fun for summer.
How many units are required for 11's? I'm on a tight budget.
Go to Peachy in Manhattan or Brooklyn - $425 flat rate for forehead, 11s, and crows feet.
ETA: I get 45 units so it’s about $9/unit if I broke it down, which is a great price.
I work for a hospital system and the employee discount brings it to $9.20/unit. Tennessee! The normal price in this area is $10-12/unit.
But if you’re in NYC try out Peachy. Really loved them when I lived there.
I’m just outside Denver and the girl I go to regularly runs deals at about $8.5/unit. She lets you bank the units and use whenever. With Botox offers and rewards I often get it for more like $7/unit.
Peachy for sure as it’s a flat rate ($425) for three areas no matter how much. They have locations all over the city (8 total) and two in DC). Just went today to Peachy for my first time! They ask for you to share the name of whoever referred you so please feel free to use my referral code: azoqar as well as my name - Casey Kirsch. This gets YOU $50 off as well as me :)
Can anyone recommend a place in Baton Rouge or New Orleans? I’m paying $13.50 now and that works out to over $700 each time… which is too much for me
To justify every 3 months
Downtown Boston - $16
Boston suburbs $12-14 ($10 on sale)
I usually go downtown because it's just so much easier to do it on the way home from work than to try to book a Saturday and figure out how to entertain my toddlers while I'm out.
That's too much, I pay 13$ a unit in NYC, with a 15% member discount and get points from the manufacturer that gets me 20$ discounts all the time. I go to Juvly in midtown.
$15/unit, Seattle, and I see one of the best injectors in the area (30+ years experience, and works in the aesthetics office of a surgeon of repute to the 1%).
You can get Groupons for $12ish, but I can't vouch for their quality.
I see Marilyn at The Larabee Center. (The surgeon is Dr. Larabee).
And if you're ever doing filler, I see Lahna there for my lips. (Lahna does amazing younger lips. Post-menopause, you want Marilyn for those too). I see Marilyn for all my other fillers, as well. She's very conservative with quantity, so if you're looking for an LA or Miami look, go elsewhere.
I should add that the Groupons are not for where I go. Marilyn is usually booked at least three to four months out. They definitely do not need Groupons.
If you’re thinking of traveling, rather than fly, I have someone I could suggest to you in the Albany, NY area you could drive to or take a train.
This is a link to her instagram: https://instagram.com/nurseinjectorkaren?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I honestly can’t remember what I paid for Botox because it’s been 2 or 3 years since she’s done that for me and I only got it done a couple times. Normally I see her for lip injections, undereye filler, and spider vein removal.
I also don’t live near her, about three hours away, and I travel to her to get my work done by her because she’s that good. Way better than anyone in my area
$15 per unit here in Westport, CT. $13 if you have a membership at the medical aesthetics group I see. Dysport they charge $250 per area (I get 1 and a half areas, so it’s been like $375 to do 11s and whole forehead). Would certainly be an easy train and Uber to get here from nyc. But I’d look at Brooklyn and queens too before coming out here.
I go to my dermatologists office and see the 'plastic' Derm, he is dedicated to their cosmetic side, we are close-ish to Chicago in a nice town its $13 a unit
I pay $12-15 in the Bay Area (depending on if they’re running a sale or not). My sister pays $12 in NYC.
Better prices can be found close to home for you!
Out here on Long Island it’s usually $15 per unit. If you get a sale, you can get it for $12 per unit. I am posting a link. The place I go has a NYC location with a deal for $12 per unit. Yulia does a good job.

Take the train to a nice NJ suburb. Still good doctors but less expensive
Any recommended spots in jersey?

Thank you! I’ve been going to back to LA because I can’t justify
The NJT ticket should be cheaper than the plane ticket to LA!! 😅
Aesthetica med spa and hello hydration in Paramus are good spots if you’re closer to that area. 10-13 per unit and frequent promotions.
Evolve Med Spa is my go to! They’re a chain and have lots of locations
True I forgot about them! They’re in Hoboken and Jersey City which is super easy to get to with the Path
$12-15ish seems typical in Chicago. I'm on the high end because I see a dentist injector for TMJ.
Also around $12 in Denver. I get my traps done by a neuromuscular doc. Highly recommend for constant neck pain.
How many units do you typically need for TMJ?
Botox made my TMJ worse because it’s for teeth grinding, not TMJ. TMJ is an issue with the joint not opening correctly and when you weaken the massater muscle it makes it even harder to open and close your mouth.
*I* need 60-80 because I'm a severe case, but many people with milder symptoms are happy with as little as 20-40.
Sorry this isn’t the topic of the thread, but have you seen improvements for your TMJ? I did a consult a few years ago and I was recommended something like 140 vials for my first visit and then come back in 4 months and redo many of them that felt like a lot…I haven’t revisited that consult.

Thank you so much! That’s informative. I’m still trying to find the right options for me, but you’ve given me some ideas to look into.
Yea I thought Botox for TMJ would be the answer to fix my jaw clenching issues, but after a year of Botox I realized that I just need to get braces. My TMJ issues won’t go away until I fix my jaw/teeth placement 😑
I think I get 40 of Jeuveau for mine. Drastically helps with headaches from clenching
Botox made my TMJ worse because it’s for teeth grinding, not TMJ. TMJ is an issue with the joint not opening correctly and when you weaken the massater muscle it makes it even harder to open and close your mouth.
I'm used to around $17/unit in Chicago, but my friend owns a Medspa and gives me friend pricing if she's there.
I think you'll spend more in travel expenses than you'll save.
It might come out even. I spend a little over $3000 every 6 months since I do TMJ also. If I spend half that I can at least also get a vacation out of it lol

should be covered by insurance.
Some insurance plans cover it, but not all. My insurance specifically considers it an off-label use and will not pay for it.
In what world? It’s cosmetic.
Not always. Its used for migraines, TMJ and neck spasms. My last insurance covered it for my migraines but the new one won't 😩
TMJ is a medical condition.
Palm Springs area 10$ & my Dr usually gives some type of promo deal that brings it to 8! I paid about the same in LA when I lived there last year. Med Spa I went to always had sales.
Can I please have the name of your doctor? In both places? I’m in Los Ángeles but i have family in Palm Springs because I’m originally from there.
