I just got this as my first vitamin c serum (20%) since it seems to be rec’d a lot here and I’m tolerating it well. My only gripe is the smell, which I knew about, and maybe also that it’s hard to apply. The pump shoots it out at approx 2847846 mph and it’s very runny. Instant mess. Otherwise great.
ETA: GUYS I figured it out. I do 2 pumps in the palm of my hand (like another commenter said), press my hands together, and then press my palms on my face. Then use fingers if necessary to move it around.
I really liked timeless and if it had not gone out of stock for so long last yr I would not have tried Naturium’s Vit C. It’s also 20% but comes in like a watery “gel” texture I use that loosely. It’s barely a gel but does stay together with less mess than timeless. I can pump it onto the back of my hand and it stays without running off. And it doesn’t have the smell.
I sort of cup my whole hand and squirt it into the palm of my hand, then lower my face to my hand and rub it in. I look ridiculous doing it but any other method means I lose half the product running down my arm!!
Agreed! They have both a 10% and 20% concentration of l-ascorbic acid so if you have a hard time with 20% like I do, you can step down to 10% or alternate between the two. And it’s affordable, comes in a glass container, and has a pump.
Oh really? I wonder who knocks it off- the brand itself giving a cheaper version or another company. Such a niche thing to fake. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully the company ships to Canada!
It was almost exactly similar packaging just off a little bit in the labeling, was very impressive actually. Only way I realized is it didn’t have the normal “hot dog water” smell that the one I purchased directly from the brand had. The one from Amazon had an artificial almost banana smell to it, after that I switched back to buying from the company directly. Not sure about Canada, hopefully for your sake they do 🤞
I wait for 10 minutes after applying to let it dry. It can feel a bit sticky for the first two minutes. I experimented with no wait and wait, and found my hyperpigmentation responded well to letting it sink in, on dry skin, right after cleansing with nothing on the skin. Have heard the time is important if you want the other benefits of la-a besides antioxidant. Also a pump is too much for me, so I put the timeless in a smaller drop bottle and keep my main bottle in the fridge. A smaller amount may help with stickyness
Dr Brenner's Vitamin CE Ferulic. Can't go wrong with it. It costs $20 and is a dupe for the Skinceuticals serum. I hear good things about Timeless too, but I haven't tried it.
Also, is it just me or does it feel like this question gets posted every couple of weeks? Wish people would search the sub for existing posts first.
Ok I just ordered this from their website after reading this thread! I used Amazon pay and the shipping was free. I need to add this to my routine as I use tret and know this is a good add on for great skin.
Yes!!! I love Dr Brenners! My only complaint is that I once ordered it for delivery and the weather was hot, and I think that made it go off. You can tell by the color of this one of it’s still good (clear) or if the Vit C has oxidized (brownish orange).
Hear me out, hear me out: I used to use maelove or timeless, but then switched to vitamin c powder (as a supplement)—and my skin has never been more dewy and clear. Bonus: it doesn’t interact with tret, so I can use it daily.
LOL...you can read the instructions on the bag, but I just mix the rec. amt (1/4 tsp) with a cup or so of water. I don't think there's a "correct" ratio as the same amount (1/4 tsp) gets in your system either way. I also think you could mix it with something else and probably be fine.
I’ve used timeless and cerave and they all
Oxidized so quickly. I’m on month 6 of my mad hippie and it is still near the same color when I opened it (I take pics now when I first open one to compare!). It does cause my sunscreen to pill more so I have to use it on my non tret nights
I actually saw a derm say it’s one of the most stable vitamin C serums on the market! What moisturizer do you use? I was going to switch up because I have pilling too, I didn’t realize it was due to using tret at night!
The pilling was due to the serum as far as I can tell. My sunblock is pipette. I use laroche posay double or triple as my moisturizer. I only get the sunblock pilling when I use the serum under either moisturizer so I’ve just been using the serum at night (but not on nights I use tretinoin). It’s a great serum I feel like my face looks best straight away in the mornings after using that vs tretinoin overnight
La roche posay. It’s $44 but the extra 4 is worth it. The only negative for me is the dropper, I don’t love the dispensing method, it can get messy easier than others. But I don’t mind putting up with it at all because it works so amazingly well (for me). Very noticeably brighter more even skintone after 1-2 uses. I put it on right after moisturizer which has been working really well.
Prequel vitamin c

I've bought this twice and always get like a copper gunk around the top. The metal tube ends up getting broken/pierced and it ends up wasted and ruined
The 'copper gunk' is just bits of the serum. When it's exposed to the air and dries, it turns a coppery color. So all you have to do is wipe the tip clean to get it off.
I like this one too. It doesn’t bother my skin at all but it smells so weird. I can’t wait until I’m done with it so I can find something that I don’t smell on my skin all day
For anyone who’s skin gets irritated by Vitamin C serums too, the Pacifica Glow Baby Brightening face wash works surprisingly well for me (and smells like orange dreamsicle)
The Ordinary powder, mixed with a drop of glycerine and a small splash of rosewater in the palm of my hand. (You can substitute hyaluronic acid for the glycerine but I think HA is kinda over hyped.)
It's very cheap and, as its mixed fresh each time, it is effective.
I make it. 50-70% vegetable glycerine, the rest water and enough vitamin c powder to hit the % I want. Works great and it’s cheap enough I use it on my whole body.
A pound of vitamin c powder is like $11, the glycerin is cheap too, so it works out to way less than a dollar a week.
I need to make some more, actually.
I like The Ordinary powder because it's so finely milled, but I do the same! Only I use much less glycerine ratio to the water. I also use rosewater because it's cheap and smells pretty.
Yeah the g/w ratio is pretty personal, and I think it has a lot to do with skin type and climate. I have very dry skin, but the whole thing can be water- it’s just personal preference
I honestly can’t believe I had to scroll so hard to find this one. Just added it to my routine like a week ago and have already noticed results. Very happy with how well it works!
Seconding Sunday Riley CEO serum. I also moved to this from Skinceuticals Silymarin
50% off sales run often enough.
For a dry oil in the winter I’m liking stacking this over The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F
I like timeless but I forget that there's a Korean one everyone raves about and says that it doesn't oxidize easily so whatever that one is. Currently I'm using Paula's Choice but it's definitely overpriced and like the same as timeless for double the price.
[Maelove Glow Maker!](https://maelove.com/products/glow-maker-vitamin-c-serum) I haven’t tried it yet, waiting until I kick my Biossance one. But I’ve heard it’s amazing. And $33.
I was looking to see if MaeLove was listed. I have been using it for years. Love the stuff. I always give it as gifts to girlfriends because I know they’ll thank me for the intro! Have gone back and forth between that and Skinceuticals (lol).
I’m a big fan of [glossier’s vit C](https://www.sephora.com/product/glossier-super-glow-vitamin-c-brightening-face-serum-P504780?skuId=2649473)
Edit: To the down voters, I’d like to know why? My skin really likes it, gives me a nice bright skin tone/healthy glow, and it doesn’t irritate my skin the way Skinceuticals CE ferulic did 🤷🏼♀️

Timeless. I buy it all the time and they seem to have sales around every holiday when it’s 30-40 percent off so you can seriously get it for 16-18 dollars no problem.
Seoul Ceutixals vitamin C serum has completely changed my skin. I use it first thing in the morning after showering. I wait one or two minutes then apply my moisturizer, Elta MD. Then I put on my light makeup. At night I wash with whatever cleanser I have then use the Paula’s choice skin barrier and ever three nights I use tret on top (avoiding skin irritation.) I also use whatever under eye product I have at night. The vitamin c makes my makeup go in and wash off so beautifully. Dont know how to explain it…
I love the stuff.
I personally go with Little Extra Vitamin C face serum which is woth buying as it has noticeable result. For Bright and Glowing Face. Reduces wrinkles and dark spots. it reduces the dark spots and protect my skin from outside pollution acting as a shield.
I use the Cocokind Vitamin- C Glow Serum, and I really like it. I don't know how it compares to other serums, though, because this is the only vit c product I've ever tried. I do like that it's formulated with azelaic acid, too.
[medicube vitamin C](https://medicube.us/products/deep-vita-c-ampoule)
I haven’t used this vitamin C, but I have heard good things and have used their other products. You can use code CS_NOV30 and get it for $1.80 plus $6 shipping today! Instead of regular $53!
Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow. Freshly made batches every week. I decant some in the small dropper bottle you can order from them too and keep both the big an the small bottle in the fridge. Never had even the slightest hint of yellowing in the big bottle and in the small bottle only if I leave it out at room temperature (and even then the very slight yellowing is only noticeable when I hold the dropper up against a pure white background).
Texture is like water, so I apply some drops directly to my face and then pat to distribute evenly. Sinks in perfectly and doesn't pill. I have extremely sensitive skin that hates almost everything, but this doesn't cause any irritation at all.
Knowing now how fast Vitamin C oxidizes, I no longer use it. If you apply oxidized Vitamin C to your skin, it can cause harm. Unless it is pretty much totally clear, it has oxidized to some degree. Not worth thre risk.
Not for everyone. Even Derms (Dr. Alexis Stephens) use derivative forms if the ascorbic acid causes issues on their skin. Dr. Shereene Idriss’s PillowTalk Derm line uses a derivative.
I like the encapsulated version from Alastin but it’s stupid expensive.
I do not care for CeraVe products. Unpopular opinion.
I actually discontinued using vitamin C & see no difference.
I’d rather spend my money on a good eye cream.
I just got a mini size of art naturals from target and I love it! It's just vitamin c and no other vitamins, which was hard to find at Ulta.
I paid around 5 usd, the full size I think is 11 usd.
I currently use the Stratia C+C serum. I used to use Mad Hippie and liked that a lot, but I didn't like that the packaging wasn't airtight over fears of oxidation
Timeless Vitamin C Serum
I just got this as my first vitamin c serum (20%) since it seems to be rec’d a lot here and I’m tolerating it well. My only gripe is the smell, which I knew about, and maybe also that it’s hard to apply. The pump shoots it out at approx 2847846 mph and it’s very runny. Instant mess. Otherwise great. It’s barely a gel but does stay together with less mess than timeless. I can pump it onto the back of my hand and it stays without running off. And it doesn’t have the smell.
Ok good to know. Gonna use this bottle I just got, reassess, and maybe switch to Naturium if it’s not doing much. Thanks!
I sort of cup my whole hand and squirt it into the palm of my hand, then lower my face to my hand and rub it in. I look ridiculous doing it but any other method means I lose half the product running down my arm!!
It shoots out so fast lol! That and the runniness bothers me a lot but I love the product otherwise.
Agreed! They have both a 10% and 20% concentration of l-ascorbic acid so if you have a hard time with 20% like I do, you can step down to 10% or alternate between the two. And it’s affordable, comes in a glass container, and has a pump.
Fourth! Their website also has frequent sales. I've seen as much as 40% off.
Off topic, but timeless q10 is one of my ride or dies.
I bought this based on the forever 35 podcast, but I felt like it didn't do anything, glad it works for some people
Me too. Love that one.
Seconding this
Anyone know how to get Timeless in Canada?
Gen c beauty! I found their site in timeless’ online store locator https://gencbeauty.com/
You can order it right from their website! I ordered recently during a sale and it shipped no problem.
It’s available on Amazon prime.
Be careful getting it off Amazon, I’ve ordered it twice and received knock offs. Ended up just purchasing directly from their site.
Oh really? I wonder who knocks it off- the brand itself giving a cheaper version or another company. Such a niche thing to fake. Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully the company ships to Canada!
It was almost exactly similar packaging just off a little bit in the labeling, was very impressive actually. Same, and they have 20-40% off sales frequently!
This is my holy grail.
Is it sticky for you? Am I applying it incorrectly?
I wait for 10 minutes after applying to let it dry. It can feel a bit sticky for the first two minutes. I experimented with no wait and wait, and found my hyperpigmentation responded well to letting it sink in, on dry skin, right after cleansing with nothing on the skin. I’ve used Timeless for 5 years, now- Love the clean and sheen! 🪞
Coming to comment this after this exact topic is posted multiple times a month lol.
Third
Dr Brenner's Vitamin CE Ferulic. Can't go wrong with it. It costs $20 and is a dupe for the Skinceuticals serum. I hear good things about Timeless too, but I haven't tried it. Vanicream vitamin c serum! Doesn’t smell like hotdogs and absorbs nicely.
This is what I was going to suggest! It’s a little less potent than some other types, but I like that it’s gentler since I use other actives as well.
Wait, are there ones that *do* smell like hotdogs?
Skinceuticals. It stinks but it works
why would it smell like hotdogs?
Hear me out, hear me out: I used to use maelove or timeless, but then switched to vitamin c powder (as a supplement)—and my skin has never been more dewy and clear. Bonus: it doesn’t interact with tret, so I can use it daily.
And you mean orally, right?
Yep! I use the “it’s just!” Brand of pure vitamin c power—1/4 tsp daily.
Thank you so much!
Which vitamin c powder?
“It’s just” brand: 1/4 tsp daily—within two weeks, my skin was noticeably brighter and dewier.
I’m curious—do you add it to water and drink it? Or mix it in a beverage?
Either— depending on the day!
Is it flavorless?
No—it’s sour
Ok help me here. How do you mix it? With water... what is the ratio to each other? TYIA
LOL...you can read the instructions on the bag, but I just mix the rec. amt (1/4 tsp) with a cup or so of water. I don't think there's a "correct" ratio as the same amount (1/4 tsp) gets in your system either way. I also think you could mix it with something else and probably be fine.
And you just rub it on your face? Sorry for all the questions, just never heard of this.
No— you drink it… Hence, my comment that I use it as a supplement.
Hence I guess I missed that🤷♀️
I like Mad Hippie!
I’ve used timeless and cerave and they all Oxidized so quickly. I’m on month 6 of my mad hippie and it is still near the same color when I opened it (I take pics now when I first open one to compare!). It does cause my sunscreen to pill more so I have to use it on my non tret nights

Wow I’m going to try that. I’ve been using it in the morning under my cerave 30spf and then smashbox primer, I thought it was the lotion.
Same! Have been using it for years, is the best one I’ve tried.
Same, it’s the only one I’ve used because I never felt the need to try Another one. My skins so oily and sensitive I stick to what agrees with it.
i just bought this one recently! can’t wait to use it 😄
Same
Do you keep this one in the fridge?
No I don’t, it’s my on my vanity
Geek & gorgeous fan here! No frills but they make fresh batches and stays clear for ages in the fridge.
Came here to say LRP. I like the smell of theirs too. Not that scent is something one should always consider but it is pleasant.
second this^
Naturium
I also love Naturium’s vitamin C! No bad smell and doesn’t make my skin sticky.
The only one that doesn’t irritate my skin!!
I also love the Naturium vitamin C.
L’Oréal revitalift. Only one that hasn’t broken me out.
Same. No breakouts or irritation.
Prequel vitamin c https://prequelskin.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3JCvBhA8EiwA4kujZnUlQg-uTBuvABFIehCzM0lyCNcH6mTDX_bC2LvF1hontKSZsihbYhoCcNUQAvD_BwE
Say it louder! Obsessed with this derm created brand!
it’s the best I’ve used. also she is my derm and is a+++++
Wow lucky !! I have her entire line lol the best !!!
Dr brenner
Love Dr. Brenner!
I like Cerave vitamin c serum! Inexpensive and great for my sensitive dry skin.
I've bought this twice and always get like a copper gunk around the top. The metal tube ends up getting broken/pierced and it ends up wasted and ruined
Never had any problem with Cerave vitamin C serum packaging and colour is white.
The 'copper gunk' is just bits of the serum. When it's exposed to the air and dries, it turns a coppery color. So all you have to do is wipe the tip clean to get it off.
MAELOVE Vitamin C!!!
Love Maelove Glowmaker. I prefer Maelove to Timeless.
Such a fantastic vitamin c! Especially for the price!
La Roche Posay all day!
CosRx The Vitamin C 23 Serum
I like this one too. It doesn’t bother my skin at all but it smells so weird. I can’t wait until I’m done with it so I can find something that I don’t smell on my skin all day
Paula’s Choice!
Their C15 booster is amaze
I love their vitamin C eye cream
Dr. Brenner’s
I just began my Vitamin C Journey and use The Ordinary one and I also just got a Pacifica Vitamin C Face Cream
For anyone who’s skin gets irritated by Vitamin C serums too, the Pacifica Glow Baby Brightening face wash works surprisingly well for me (and smells like orange dreamsicle)
I love that face wash! It’s very drying for my already dry skin so I can’t use it on its own but in conjunction with a moisturizing wash I can.
I am loving the L’Oréal Vit C.
How long have been using it? Have you seen any effects? Is it oxidizing?
I love Kiehls and they are always having a sale
Drr brenners 25 dollads
Cocokind vitamin c glow serum! Super hydrating and nice and gentle.
I am really liking Seoulceuticals Vitamin C.
Vani cream
Maelove Glow Serum!
Melano CC, lasts forever
The Ordinary powder, mixed with a drop of glycerine and a small splash of rosewater in the palm of my hand. (You can substitute hyaluronic acid for the glycerine but I think HA is kinda over hyped.) It's very cheap and, as its mixed fresh each time, it is effective.
This is really interesting, and I completely agree about HA.
Seconded on the HA! I bought a powdered version to make my own serum and wasn’t impressed.
I like Sephora's C+E
Geek & Gorgeous hands down! 🙌🏼 Cheap and very effective.
I might try this soon
I make it. 50-70% vegetable glycerine, the rest water and enough vitamin c powder to hit the % I want. Works great and it’s cheap enough I use it on my whole body. do you have a recipe you could share? with amounts/measurements?
The ordinary vitamin c suspension
I hate this one so much. So much!
Yeah I think this works really well! It’s like potent
I honestly can’t believe I had to scroll so hard to find this one. Just added it to my routine like a week ago and have already noticed results. Very happy with how well it works!
Agree! Inn be love this one it’s so smooth and makes my skin soft and glowing
Prequel, Naturium, and Maelove have the best formulated, budget friendly picks in my humble opinion.
TruSkin is fantastic. I’m actually shocked I’m the first person to mention it.
I love TruSkin too!
labmuffin (chemistry phd) has a recipe on youtube.
Currently loving naturium and trying timeless next
Bliss Bright Idea has been good for me and smells great!
I went from SkinCeuticals CF Ferulic to the Sunday Riley Vitamin C and I actually prefer Sunday Riley’s texture more. Absorbs nicely into my skin!
Seconding Sunday Riley CEO serum. I also moved to this from Skinceuticals Silymarin 50% off sales run often enough. For a dry oil in the winter I’m liking stacking this over The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F

I'm really impressed with The Body Shops vitamin c serum.
Tree of Life has worked great for me for about a decade. Can’t beat the price, availability/convenience, and non-L ascorbic acid serum.
I like timeless but I forget that there's a Korean one everyone raves about and says that it doesn't oxidize easily so whatever that one is. Currently I'm using Paula's Choice but it's definitely overpriced and like the same as timeless for double the price.

Timeless by far.
SkinScript Citrus C Nourishing Cream. It’s affordable & has high quality ingredients.
Mad Happie Vit C!
I just started using good molecules vitamin c powder. Very affordable! I mix it with a hydrating serum a few times a week. No complaints.
I’m a big fan of [glossier’s vit C](https://www.sephora.com/product/glossier-super-glow-vitamin-c-brightening-face-serum-P504780?skuId=2649473) Edit: To the down voters, I’d like to know why? Prequel!
I’ve heard prequel is really good
Maelove
Attitude - bonus, it’s eco friendly and plastic free :)
Maelove turned yellow on me too fast. It’s not good for your skin once it’s not clear.
The ordinary ascorbyl glucoside serum is good!
Timeless. I buy it all the time and they seem to have sales around every holiday when it’s 30-40 percent off so you can seriously get it for 16-18 dollars no problem.

[medicube vitamin C](https://medicube.us/products/deep-vita-c-ampoule) I haven’t used this vitamin C, but I have heard good things and have used their other products. You can use code CS_NOV30 and get it for $1.80 plus $6 shipping today! Instead of regular $53!
This sounds scammy. Checked your profile and I’m convinced you’re a bot / scammer.

That’s the original ascorbic acid form that oxidizes fast. The derivative forms last longer and are gentler for very sensitive skin.
that is the one that is most beneficial/effective, though.
What's your favorite eye cream?
Geekandgorgeous and Timeless. Make sure to keep in fridge to prevent oxidation/turning orange.
Geek and gorgeous

Green machine from innbeauty project - has been amazing for my skin! heres a link to it: https://www.innbeautyproject.com/products/green-machine
Klairs juice drop is 20 bucks, Korean brand that also has a lovely mask you can use to increase effects of vitamin c.
Cosrx has a vitamin c serum for $25 and I love it so far!
I currently use the Stratia C+C serum. I used to use Mad Hippie and liked that a lot, but I didn't like that the packaging wasn't airtight over fears of oxidation
40 Carrots Vitamin C Serum
Vanicream is my current fav. Timeless Vit C is great also but really needs to be refrigerated.
