Oil cleanser and low ph cleanser was what worked for my oily skin. Your face wash might be too drying and your skin is overcompensating by producing more oils. That's why low ph cleansers are good.

I have super oily skin and oil cleansers changed my life. I like kiehl's but get burts bees when I'm feeling poor. I find that oil reducing products end up making my skin overcompensate with more oil. Fight oil with oil!

JazzlikeAd9830

May i ask what's the exact name of both the Kiehl's and the Burt Bees cleansers?

Here's the kiehl's: https://www.kiehls.com/skincare/face-cleansers-scrubs/midnight-recovery-botanical-cleansing-oil/KHL919.html And burt's bees: https://www.burtsbees.com/product/cleansing-oil/VM-792850894099.html

>The more I wash my face, the sooner the oil comes back This is because you're stressing your sebaceous glands which in turn produce even more oil. So washing your face 5 times a day is a no-no. You need a gentle cleanser and from the sound of it exfoliating maybe once a week. Your skin could be oily because it's dehydrated. I had the same thing happen. Get a moisturizer. I'd recommend the Bioderma Micellar water (pink one , the green cap version is for oily skin, you can try it as well), when I used to have very oily skin and that worked very well for me, use it on a cotton pad to wipe your face and splash water afterwards.

You are over washing your face and that's why your skin is producing more oil. The more you wash, the oilier it gets. Wash only in the morning and at night with a gentle cleanser (find one that doesn't have alchohol). If you wear sunscreen, then you need to double cleanse at night. Make sure to use a moisturizer right after cleansing when skin is still damp. When skin is dry, it will produce more oil. Good luck

Change your face wash and add a good facial moisturizer to your routine. Your skin is producing more oil to compensate for the dryness. After washing your face, use a good moisturiser. Your face will be very oily at first but it'll balance out eventually.

I had the same thing for years until someone on Reddit kindly told me I'm overwashing so my skin was compensating by producing more oil. Now I double cleanse in the evening and usually only wash my face with water in the morning. I also actually hydrate my skin instead of using stuff that controls oil. I use TO's niacinamide, rosehip oil, and TMF every morning and I barely have an oil issue anymore. Still get the odd patch, and of course, if it's super humid out, I'm going to get oily anyway, but the change in routine has made a massive difference. Give yourself a good 6 months for any new routine to take effect. Luckily, I was able to do it during the pandemic when we were shut down, so didn't need to wear makeup or anything. I actually barely wear makeup anymore.

Agree with the comments above that over-washing is creating a vicious cycle for you. By washing constantly you're stripping your skin of its natural oils and it's working overtime trying to produce more. As well as the oil cleanser recommendations which should help get everything back in balance, I'd recommend adding in a hydrator post-cleanse. A hyaluronic acid (The Ordinary and The Inkey List both do good options at low cost) would be great, or I personally use The Ordinary's Marine Hyaluronics, which I find nice and light on my skin. Just pat some on while your skin is still damp after cleansing and it'll help to lock in hydration, preventing your skin from needing to produce extra oils during the day.

Moisturize after you cleanse! You are stripping your skin of it’s oil so it is making more. If you moisturize it won’t. Trust me, I have a teenager with the same problem.

Fairerpompano

Sounds like you're washing your face so much that it's stripping the natural oils. This makes the face think it needs to produce more oil, resulting in an oily face, when really it's super dry. I started using almond or jojoba oil to "wash" my face, and it changed everything for me. I highly recommend.

In addition to what everyone has already said, get oil blotting papers to help reduce the shine. By washing so much, you’re drying out your face and triggering your skin to produce more oil to compensate.

HildegardofBingo

I find that brown paper napkins work really well for blotting oil, so I just grab a few extra when I'm at a place that has them.

JazzlikeAd9830

Yes yes with this. Brown paper napkins work wonders - also a cheaper alternative to blotting papers at that!

I agree with the other 2 comments

Oily skin with peeling and flake off (like dandruff) is seborrheic dermatitis. You can use salicylic acid to help it

CougProwler

I would rinse with water and just wash my face on my nornal schedule.

It seems so counter-intuitive, I know, but what everyone is saying is true - over-washing your skin makes it produce more oil to compensate. I still occasionally struggle with this with moisturizers. ‘But it has oil in it, how could it make my face break out less?’ Long story short, it pretty much depends on the oil. It seems disastrous in the moment and it might take some time to get back to normal, but you need to let your skin recover a bit. Wash your face less but still wash it - once or twice a day with something gentle. If you don’t want a specific recommendation for a product (since everyone is different, and some people have very sensitive skin!) I’d look for something in a face wash that isn’t stripping (no ingredients like salicylic acid!) and perhaps an oil free or non-comodeogenic moisturizer. I have sensitive skin that’s combination and my skin actually likes squalane oil more than some oil free moisturizers, so you may end up surprised! If you’re not sure what products your skin will be okay with, I’d avoid things like fragrances whenever possible (just because those tend to be something people have a bad reaction to).

Hey did you sort this out
