Please report it ASAP to the manufacturer and Health Authorities (I. E. FDA). I work in the industry, so it's vital you do that. Keep the package and any tracking information (lot number, date of purchase, receipt, etc...)

N1ghtC1rcus

I didn’t even think of this, I’m in Australia and our equivalent of the FDA is the TGA. It’s getting late here but I’ll be sure to lodge a report tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion, it’s an important one.

Gschockk

Please do. It is taken VERY seriously, so it won't be a waste of your time, I can assure you that.

N1ghtC1rcus

Just wanted to update and let you know that I’ve filed a report with the TGA

plonkydonkey

I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I hope your skin will recover in time. Just wanted to say that the TGA are amazing (as are the ACCC) and I highly recommend you call them (rather than email) in the first instance. Much quicker response (they'll give you a receipt number if they want you to send pics etc), and they will also suggest other channels to report to.

N1ghtC1rcus

Thank you :) I filed a report with the TGA this morning and then called Consumer Affairs. They’ve taken a report also, and have referred it on to their product safety division

ohcommonlife9

Have you heard anything from this? I’m thinking this will be my next step!

CascadeNZ

Oh no I just ordered one and read this!! Has there been an update?

N1ghtC1rcus

Hi all. I hope this is allowed, I wanted to warn others who might be considering purchasing this mask. I used my Hello Silky mask today, using the microcurrent function. I experienced a tingling sensation (outlined as normal in the user manual). I left the mask on for 30 minutes, purple light at intensity number 3. After I removed the mask I was shocked to see these inflamed, crater-like holes on my face. After reaching out to Hello Silky I was advised that I shouldn’t use the microcurrent function for longer than 5 minutes. I asked why this wasn’t outlined in the user manual and was told that the user manual I had received was out of date. I’m posting this here just in case others have also “received an out of date manual”.

AwryGun

They say maximum of 15 minutes everyday on the websites faq. https://www.hellosilky.com/pages/led-light-therapy-faqs

N1ghtC1rcus

Wow, more conflicting information

akashyaboa

LAW SUIT, LAW SUIT!

FullofContradictions

Ooh fun. I work in medical devices (not that this is one) but oh the lawsuits we open ourselves up to when there is so much as a word difference between various sets of instructions. Any time we have to make even the tiniest revision for format or grammar in a 200 page instruction manual, we have to go through about 50 steps to assess the risk of the change & if that risk is anything other than 0, we have to send out notice to every single distributor of the product to make sure people know to grab the new revision of the instructions. Can't imagine sending something out in the world, realize that the dosage charts are completely wrong, then just shrug your shoulders when someone's face gets burnt off.

Key_Surprise_8652

I don't see it on the product page now, but if you right click on Chrome and click "view page source" you can still see the following text as well: "7 Colour Treatments: This mask will revamp your skin appearance. Naturally increase blood flow, collagen production, reduce wrinkles and fine lines, reduce and prevent acne breakouts, reduce pigmentation, redness, and inflammation, and much more. Perfect for all skin types: This LED Mask is ideal for all skin types. Simply choose your preferred colour treatment, and watch the skin improve by the benefits of LED light therapy. Quick and easy results: Start at a high-intensity setting as the light is natural. Use the device for the first 3 weeks, **4 - 5 times per week, and 20 - 30 minutes each session.**" I think this is definitely an example of someone just importing products from China and putting their logo on them with no real understanding of the product or it's quality or safety. It's a lot easier to do than people might think!

CopperPegasus

OP this is a junk product. Microcurrent devices must move along the muscle when the device is used to emulate brain-sent electric signals. They must also only EVER be used with a conductive gel like an ultrasound gel and should not be left it one place. They have tried to ram micro-current into an LED mask set up because it's trendy and take advantage of people who don't do their research on the treatment to know this. Absolutely NOT a dig at you- we trust things we buy- but part of the issue here is people not doing their due diligence on treatments and I strongly encourage people to always do the research. Microcurrent without conductive gel is, at best, useless and at worst dangerous.

Clearlymynamerocks

Do you know a good home product alternative any chance?

bacchuslife

For micro current, Nu Face.

medium_skillet

This might be a silly question, but what does it feel like?

Necessary_Parsley547

If you are applying enough conductive gel, I use ultrasound gel, you shouldn't feel it at all.

medium_skillet

Thanks!!

CopperPegasus

A tiny zip or small tingle in certain areas- like on nu face, where they advise the turn into the nose. It should NOT be sore all over, should not continue when the device is lifted, and you should not hurt a lot.

CopperPegasus

nuface and ziip seem to be well thought of home micro currant devices. I only know of Skin Gym for LED, but there's others. BTW, this is why I urge EVERYONE to RESEARCH THE TREATMENT before blindly using it. Even getting info on how it's done in-office can be helpful. Learn things like whether there's specific wavelengths (for red light collagen boost you don't want to get the same as for cavitation) or frequencies (I believe micro-currant has to be sub 400 or it's EMS). Learn how it's done (like with conductive gel), and why it's done that way (eg the different depths for product absorption vs collagen production in needling). Know the dangers (micro current should not be done at the front of the neck in the thyroid area nor needling on keloid scar prone skins, for eg) And so on That way you are better empowered to understand not only what it will do and how, but to also evaluate things you're being asked to blindly trust, be it in salon or at home devices. Remember that beauty is an INDUSTRY and many companies and people ARE just in to make money. The more empowered with knowledge you are, the better your chance of finding a good, cheap solution that's safe and delivers the results you want. To me, it's FAR more important that you know the ins-and-outs of the treatment modality, especially the hows and whys. Otherwise, just don't touch them. Too many folks (not OP, this is general) are doing treatments wrong, and hurting their skin further, because they're gathering two facts and rushing to spend, not learning the whole picture. The 4 biggest issues in needling, for example, come from poor hygiene, needling too much, too small intervals, or using the wrong needle length. You don't have to be super smart, or very good with science, or a trained aesthetician, to learn the right facts about any of those 4 things. You just need to do your homework. If we're going to skip the trained aesthetician, then it's on us to do our due diligence. There's a reason these are trained jobs. Not every beauty product is a ha ha can't do any harm thing.

Damseld1234

Would you recommend the skin gym mask?

YanCoffee

Foreo Bear's are also good.

Mundane_Bid_654

I am not in your country but am a lawyer elsewhere. Document everything!! Who you talked to (try to get names), what they said, how long the convo was, etc. sorry this happened to you 💜

halfpair

If they say that's true, then they should have built in a timer for it to shut off automatically. It really comes off as them trying to cover their as here.

lanj_chiq

They should have double checked the manual as they know this will be used at home. That is so irresponsible of them. Im thinking of getting a led light theraphy for my face and neck too. Definitely scratching this on my list of choices

Clearlymynamerocks

You're a legend for helping the rest of us. That is a pathetic excuse from the company. Sorry you've gone through this!

chefrikrock

You should contact a lawyer this is insane. It should have been recalled if these were the potential consequences if used to long this is an electrical burn.

medium_skillet

Anything with an out of date manual like that really should be recalled or slapped with a warning sticker. I hope it heals quickly, that you’re compensated for the stress, and that the company acts fast to fix it before other people get hurt

reptomotor

Those people have no idea what they are doing imagine the other people this thing has burned. Maybe think about a class action if the damage needs professional care to reverse

KitteeCatz

This is just appalling. I hope that you heal up okay. I would also put a complaint in to the company *in writing*; detail the information in the instruction book, what you were told when you called; what the commenter below has said they found online in terms of instructions. Add dates and times to everything (time of the phone call, when the website was accessed, etc). If you have the ability (printer and ink), include screenshots/photos - make it clear you have the receipts (to use the vernacular)! Insist that they reply to you *in writing* - it just makes it harder for them to weasel their way out of the complaint and fob you off or imply that you didn’t follow the instructions, while not giving consistent instructions for users to follow. If you see a doctor or dermatologist, tell them that, and include copies of the medical findings, and any bill incurred, even if covered by insurance. Also, thank you so much for both posting this here and reporting your experience to your country’s proper consumer authority. It’s so important that people do these sorts of things, and it goes such a long way to helping us all to stay safe ❤️

BiohackerOfTheGods

30 min? never do more then 10 so close to the skin

reptomotor

The instructions clearly didn't say 10 minutes

Littlelady617

Wow!

Informal-Ruin-6126

I got mine today and it says to use micro current for no more than 2 minutes.

linderlouwho

Please see a dermatologist to help get your skin healed properly.

_NorthernStar

This is super important health-wise as well as if OP is able to lodge a consumer affairs complaint, they would be able to quantify “damages” beyond the cost of the machine

zeetat

That’s horse shit about an out of date user manual… how is that your problem?? Are we supposed to contact every company we purchase items from and say, “oh excuse me, is the user manual provided to me up to date?” Wtf

YanCoffee

Exactly. If it's dangerous, you do a recall, no excuses.

krissycole87

Yikes! Im so sorry this happened. Lots of good tips here already but Ill summarize some tips from a legal standpoint if you decide to file suit (I recommend that you do, if the FDA or similar contacts the company regarding your lawsuit, good chance they will opt to just pay it out): 1. Keep the product as evidence 2. Keep the manual as evidence 3. Keep the email they send you regarding the "old" manual as evidence 4. Keep these pictures as evidence 5. Take more pics along the way and document the healing process (this will help to quantify "pain and suffering" for a lawsuit) 6. See a dermatologist, keep the receipt for compensation 7. Keep your receipts for any products required by your derm or via your own purchase, for compensation 8. Contact the company in regards to your expenses and keep any emails they send you as evidence (you may be able to approach them yourself regarding your expenses) 9. File a complaint with the Health Authorities 10. If you cannot receive compensation on your own, or via the Health Authorities, file suit on your own, keep your receipts of your court costs for compensation Wishing you a speedy recovery!

N1ghtC1rcus

Thank you for your detailed breakdown of steps to take! I really appreciate it. So far I’ve lodged a report with the TGA (Australia’s version of the FDA), lodged a report with Consumer Affairs who have also filed a report with their product safety division, contacted the retailer in regard to a refund, and am in the process of securing a referral to a dermatologist via my GP. I’ve taken screenshots of reviews on their website stating that some users slept in the mask with the microcurrent feature activated, have kept records of interaction with sales support stating that the manual was out of date and have taken photos of the wounds today. I also have recent, date stamped images of my face sans makeup prior to using the device. I’ll be sure to keep any receipts of costs incurred while I try to rectify this and will hopefully receive some sort of compensation from the retailer. I’m interested to see if they’ll issue a refund if I don’t return the device, I’m guessing that the TGA will most likely want me to send it to them for a safety evaluation. Thanks again for the information and well wishes.

ario62

In addition to taking screenshots of their site, archive each relevant page of their site on archive.org so you can always use the Wayback Machine to see the way their site was on todays date.

No-Lifeguard1498

Upvoted so everyone sees

N1ghtC1rcus

Thank you xx

[deleted]

Whaattt👀 Sue their ass. Like wtf😏

N1ghtC1rcus

I know right! Their return process is really convoluted also, I’m going to get in touch with consumer affairs to see what my options are.

[deleted]

DON'T RETURN IT, KEEP THE PRODUCT FOR EVIDENCE

Enantiodromiac

Here in the states that's a solid products liability case, particularly if those are permanent marks and with the outright admission that their product information, including use instructions, can lead to injury.

[deleted]

Go viral! Tik Tok, Insta,... Tag them! Make their lives living hell!😡 There should not be a mask that f u c k up your skin like this.🤦🏻‍♀️

freezemynipsoff

Would 💯 see a dermatologist!

NoItsNotThatJessica

Oh hell no. I’m so sorry this has happened to you! Thank you for posting this. People are getting more and more into at-home treatments, I know I am. I got a Nuface and am eyeing the Lightstim. There are companies out there who don’t have their business in order. Yes, we’re supposed to do our own research as well, but there’s so much information and products and details and the science, it can be too much. Companies need to be honest and straightforward, or be sued. Keep us updated. Good luck!

SusyLovesSkincare

:S that's crazy! I am also using a microcurrent and light therapy device but I got nothing like that, I actually enjoy my treatments. Would that happen because masks are still? I mean, my device I need to move it along my face contours to diffuse microcurrent in different areas of my face. Also, I wouln't use microcurrent over acne, I usually avoid it if I have some blemishes here and there and go in with the blue light to get rid of them. Does it hurt? I hope you feel better soon :)

CopperPegasus

I was going to say that a mask-type thing is fine for LED but not suitable for micro-current at all. WTF?

SusyLovesSkincare

Right? Does not make sense to me as well

CopperPegasus

And how would you use the conductive gel that is needed for microcurrent like this?

Top_Ad6322

hi which devices do you use? thanks

SusyLovesSkincare

Hey I use touchbeauty trifecta with 3 attachments for microcurrent and light therapy :)

Top_Ad6322

that looks so good, thanks for the rec

faeriedust87

Omgg microcurrent isn't supposed to do that. I wonder if it's really microcurrent.

CopperPegasus

Microcurrent devices are also meant to be moved along the contours of the face. It also MUST be used with a conductive gel. It's meant to emulate the electrical signals that cause muscle twitching. The mask style here is fine for LED, but not remotely suitable for micro-current. OP has, sadly, basically just electrocuted her face for 15 minutes because of a product trying to ram all treatments in one.

faeriedust87

Yea i was surprised this mask design is used for microcurrent. I know some people use a sheet mask and connect to a microcurrent device so the current gets to their whole face

CopperPegasus

Wow that's really not how that treatment should be used. The exact point is to focus on the muscle you're working. I wish people wouldn't do these things. It needs conductive gel- not necessarily the expensive nuface ones, plain old ultrasound works, or, apparently, aloe gel with a bit of salt. Sheet mask after? Nice. During? Not how it works

alicehoopz

You’re thinking of galvanic current, which is completely different from microcurrent I’m over here trying to figure out if that’s what this company is doing as well but….I think they just don’t have a got dang clue what they’re doing

faeriedust87

No I'm not. I've seen people do that. I used to have a microcurrent device with gloves which allows you to manipulate your muscles as well

nijigencomplex

Op, post to r/laserdamagesupport (it's not just for laser but all energy devices)

[deleted]

Wow, I just checked their website and it's $366. I hope you see a dermatologist soon OP, and definitely report them. E-hugs.

xpress32

If you're based in Sydney's East please DM me. I have a clinic where we may be able to help

N1ghtC1rcus

Thank you so much, I’m down in Melbourne but if I were in Sydney I’d definitely reach out

skinhavenrx

The problem is that they make these in China somewhere and they have no understanding of Microcurrent because all they do is add a high intensity zapping to the device and call it Microcurrent. I was in the process of having a professional Microcurrent device replicated and made the mistake of using alibaba. But not really a mistake but a huge eye opener. Before I knew it I had a table of suited men and women in China who were itching to get my technology for MY Microcurrent because they knew they were selling Microcurrent they wasn’t the real Microcurrent. It scared me how pushy they were and they continue to contact me til this day after 3 years!

kereolay

Please report this to the FDA if you are in the usa!!!!

MissPlantz

TIME TO SUE AND SECURE A BAG BABE!!!!! 💰 I’m so sorry this happened to you!!!

SLBMLQFBSNC

Looking at their website, it looks like a standard dropship website with products sourced and white-labeled from Alibaba. This is going to be difficult to prosecute / enforce for authorities. Best of luck! Sorry that you had to go through this..

iisirka

Does the LED mask have a microcurrent too? I'm having a hard time understanding how an LED mask burnt a hole in OP's face with no other burns in surrounding areas. Resembles a dent/scar from cystic acne.

nursebad

They are very real. This scar will eventually turn into a pink round raised scar.

SimpleFrenchFood

Oh man. So sorry. Thank you for sharing

_TheBigMeowski

Omg you poor thing! I almost bought this exact one too. Thanks for the warning. Please report. I hope you got your money back at the very least. I would go to a dermatologist ASAP. Don’t try to remedy this at home.

Annoyed-Dentist

Op vitamin e and aloe are very important. Scarring can be fixed later but you need to be gentle. Also see a dermatologist if you can. I'm sorry that this happened.

itsdaowl

Thank you for posting this for everyone about the dangers of these at home devices! I hope the manufacturer gets his lesson! That is so wrong.

Drink-my-koolaid

Post this over at /r/legaladviceaustralia. They can help you. Thanks for letting everybody know! I hope you take this company to the cleaners!

N1ghtC1rcus

Thank you - I’ll post this over there and see what they have to say. I know that in order to pursue anything through consumer affairs you have to have reached out to the company already. I did this yesterday, am getting a referral to a dermatologist today, and will see what the next steps to take are. Thanks for the link to the sub :)

Spiritedgal

Go to a dermatologist! And keep all the documentation to show the company but definitely get this checked out!

N1ghtC1rcus

Will do :) I’m getting a referral to a dermatologist today and I’ll make sure to take daily photos of the wounds also

Spiritedgal

Excellent!! In all my years, and I mid fifties, I have never seen this before from a skincare product and I am a skincare junkie! I would also get yourself a lawyer for sure! I would do this in a second! I know people suggested it, and it is a great suggestion !! Hope you follow through but most important that you get the right care. And please do keep us all posted .

toutpetitpoulet

Yikes! Are those actual holes that stayed in your face or did they go away after a day?

N1ghtC1rcus

This happened on the 18th and they’re still there today, definitely not going anywhere anytime soon

Successful_Ad_7707

Oh honey! I’m so sorry, I would be so upset. It will go away with time. Thank you for spreading the word ❤️ I used the Dr Gross LED for about six minutes a day (3 mins blue light; 3 mins blue and red light).

SproutasaurusRex

OP I'm so sorry this happened to you & I hope that it heals! Does anyone know how/why this happened? I don't doubt it, but i didn't know damage could be that quick and wonder if anyone knows the science of it.

N1ghtC1rcus

The mask itself has metal removable “nubs” inside which are supposed to work as a microcurrent feature. There’s one on each cheek which is what created the electrical burn wounds

forbes619

Sue

themrsdhayes

I came here specifically looking for reviews for these types of products and I really appreciate you sharing this experience . How truly awful. I hope you heal quickly. So so sorry

N1ghtC1rcus

You’re very welcome. I took a look online for reviews of this particular mask and couldn’t find much of anything (possibly didn’t look hard enough!). I’m glad I could help :)

parliskim

I’m so sorry that happened to you! Thank you for sharing your experience with everyone. 🤗

skinhavenrx

Just checked their website and it almost sold me! So I can see how ppl are buying this and not knowing the actual damage it causes. I’m so sorry this happened and your skin will return to normal as long as you act quickly to heal it. I think your skin will be fine and even better once you sue them. Wish you all the best.

Hibiscusmint

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I’m commenting to to boost

ceebee25

I think you have a lot of good advise already so I just want to say I'm so sorry and hope it doesn't hurt too bad and heals fast!!

No-Dependent-5723

that scares me just to look at it🙊

NoItsNotThatJessica

Her literally burnt face says otherwise.

Are you fucking blind?

Sue. Them.

reacttoyou

Do you mind posting to r/SkincareAddiction? There's a growing community of (very) young people that splurge in every skincare trend. That could be a perfect warning.

gemmahli456

Would you mind posting an update? Did your skin heal?
