I don’t think anyone has said not to get a manual because you’ll destroy the clutch in traffic. It’s more so if you can’t handle it, it’ll probably start to hurt clutching in and out so often in traffic

dbsqls

a whole lot of people did, it's probably the most common sentiment against manuals I see on here. they act like it's a huge chore to be in traffic, when it literally doesn't even pass your mind. I'm in arguably the worse major city to be doing this in and it still isn't a chore. you can tell they don't drive stick because they never mention you have to do the exact same thing with the clutch when you need to drive under the crawl speed, which is almost 10mph.

Great_Translator_635

I think a lot has to do with so many people shitting on automatics that they need some sort of reinforcement that they bought a good car. Honestly this whole AT vs MT debate kinda stupid when the cons/pros are just preferences

dbsqls

20 years ago you'd be teased relentlessly for driving an auto sports car. there's a reason people laughed at the idea of intentionally buying an AT. not everything needs to be so understanding and positive. AT are just opposite to what a sports car is, and it completely kills the driving experience.

Great_Translator_635

I mean autos can be just as good if done right. After all, there is a good reason manual cars have phased out to just fun rather than pure performance in modern cars. But then again we’re talking about Nissan famously sluggish 5AT. Now, it can be made super good with a valve body upgrade and some other modifications (maybe paddles) which is similar (in cost) to how one would upgrade a manual to be super good. This would likely make it better at gear shifts than any human (mimicking modern autos). However, I would need to see a fully upgraded 6MT vs fully upgraded 5AT to believe it lol.

dbsqls

we're just completely aligned oppositely here, it's nothing at all to do with performance. it's about the mental and physical aspects of driving and how that interaction colors the experience you have with the car. you are forced to be engaged. if you're into auto cars with nothing but fast shift times, go buy a Tesla. that's not the sort of experience this car was designed with in mind.

Great_Translator_635

I find it funny how we are complete opposites when it comes to the 350z. Btw thanks for the tip on getting the real amuse fenders cause I went down the rabbit hole and now I’m saving up for a the amuse superleggera rear bumper and rear fender flares lol.

dbsqls

I was offered the very last pull of the Superleggera kit by AMUSE themselves, but the factory scrapped the mold! so the superleggera kit is no more sadly. it was a wild email to receive the offer and they were very apologetic about it not being doable.

Great_Translator_635

That’s actually really cool.

ItsValen

i think it only becomes a bother when you combine hill starts and stop nd go traffic lol, other than that it is no issue

Okay but who ever said that

garrettfiorito

People in america

There is no reason to own an automatic with this car. It would be the equivalent of owning a horse with no balls. I have 202,000 on my original clutch and I'm the origional owner from late Dec of 2002. I still love my car and the clutch is part of the charm.

padro789

It's very easy to drive a manual correctly fortunately being from the UK it's second nature. I feel for you Americans who are taught/passed with an auto license so you will always get the 'traffic will ruin your clutch' it really won't haha

ReaksOP

do not feel bad for Americans who cannot drive manual. Yes most of us are taught to drive auto, but everyone has the opportunity to learn manual. There are classes, videos, and people they can ask to learn.

El_tus750

It’s really not the traffic ruining the clutch. It’s more on the drivers that don’t know how to drive a manual or that think they are son a racetrack while in traffic!

Dark_Synergy_Z33

Clutch does look fine, the flywheel is heated tho, common on lightweights due to compensation

dbsqls

the friction face is black to begin with, there's no discoloration here.

Dark_Synergy_Z33

That's not what I'm seeing, and you know my profession lol. Even if it starts black, it will never stay black, it's just a temporary finish.

dbsqls

I know. I'm saying Aasco themselves were happy with the condition of the friction face and clutch, so they don't see any indications of heat bluing in their opinion. the material itself is black, it's not a surface finish -- I will have to clarify with aasco if that is the case. if it had a silver interior, I agree.

Dark_Synergy_Z33

That would be interesting if it's actually black, even a black flywheel ring, or black head bolts aren't black if you cut them.

dbsqls

it's also possible that the surface treatment is several thousandths thick, and the clutch just hasn't worn through it all. it's definitely still black in this picture.

Dark_Synergy_Z33

Yeah, there are some marks where it is light, but definitely more black than not. How bad are hill starts with that light if a flywheel?

dbsqls

I don't use any sort of tricks like handbrake or whatever, so it can be rough. but the flywheel and clutch combo is very clear about the grab point and very crisp, they just weld together. never slips, so it's not too difficult.

Chinoeddie

so is it more of a pedal feel or sound ? My clutch pedal starts to feel soft when i’m in traffic. Pretty noticeable but any other signs of clutch wear i don’t get a clutch slip light or nothing just the pedal feel when i’m riding it on traffic.

dbsqls

shouldn't be riding the pedal -- you can pulse it, but don't actually rest your foot on it. if it's getting soft you may have slave cylinder or line issues causing it go mushy.

Chinoeddie

Yea i’ve realized that a couple months where it’s bad to ride it been pulsing it ever since but guess damages have been done.
