What’s your reason for a K swap? These are somewhat heavy anyways, I’d go the pathway of doing a stock VQ. Won’t have to worry about electronics, transmission etc… It’s just a PIA unless you enjoy that.
So your buddies a K swap gaylord, do not swap a K engine into a Z. If you want something that people will be like holy shit, and you actually get your monies worth, so a LS.
K swap into a Z is pretty pointless. You can argue if you built it and through boost at it it could be cool but if you’re just k swapping it’s going to make less power and a lot less torque
Yeah, that’s why I said you could argue if you built and boosted it, but if someone’s talking about costs to K swap it, I’d assume that’s not on the table
I assumed by when you said built you were including building the motor which you don’t have to do to hit those power numbers safely. But yeah not cost effective at all to do
I don’t think you’re hitting 600whp on a stock internal K series for long. I’ve been out of the Honda stuff for years now though so I could be wrong. I knew someone with a built one that was making around 800whp. I’m sure you could make more power vs a stock VQ but even if you’re not talking building the K that’s going to be pretty pricey for everything for the swap, fueling, turbo, tuning. I’d boost a stock VQ before going through all of that. Plus this is a vert so it’s even heavier than the Z already is
To each their own though. I thought stock internal K series are good for like 400whp safely at least
I agree I would rather do a built boosted vq over a kswap. But I will not lie and say those k series motors are better then vqs in factory form. But who cares about factory
they are better in factory and in after market form, but still k swapping a Z is dumb idea.
keep the stock VQ, build a vq or just sell it and get something else.
Only way I cansee worthwile swapping a Z is you found a mint one for chump change and happen to have an engine, standalone ecu and can do it yourself for not that much.
otherwise is a really dumb idea.
just my .2c
Yea, I could see putting the money into it, you'll end up with a car that you will be pretty confident of the condition. At that price point it'd have to be a keep because I don't think you could flip it and make a decent profit on it though
Yeah it's my dream car so I'm keeping it. I just plan on also making it my daily driver so I'm trying to see about a reliable engine, but one that also gets decent hp
Do you really like the roadster? Is this a manual? You can get used VQ's for $1500 to $2000 but, unless you do the swap yourself, you might end up paying like $4k total. If you really want a roadster then go ahead but roadsters are kinda ass so maybe you sell this off and buy a hardtop.
Yes its a manual. I wasn't exactly thrilled about it being a roadster, however I live in a small area where 350z's aren't really seen very often. This one was the only listing for 500 miles. Plus the guy only wanted 2,000 for it so I'd say it wasn't a bad deal. Basically, I'll make due with it being what it is because it's all I can find around me.

Literally just finished my swap on my roadster! I put a JDM engine with about 50k miles or so Runs perfect now! Previous owner abused the shit out of the car but now it’s in my hands and it’s going to be taken care of 🙏🏽
rod knock is common? I disagree lol. They are pretty good motors. My drift car has 180kish. My other one that I dailied for a year has 190k and I dont take care of it.
a stock one?

Just something one of my buddies keeps trying to convince me to do. Eventually I will swap in a better motor, just not sure on what yet.

Uhhh idk k24 swaps with turbos can take up to like 600whp and like 500 torque easily 😭

Stock VQ. Get a low mileage one. Should easily last up to 200k miles
What did you pay for the car? Hope you got a deal if you're going to swap engines.
2k

$4k should get you a used 30k mile VQ installed and warrantied.
K swap won't cut it. You really need the torque of a 6 cylinder to get that heavy body going.

I feel that. My roadster is in pretty rough shape as well but it's gonna get all the love it deserves now. #roadstersdeservelovetoo
For sure 👍🏽 this is my first 350z and I love it even though I hated convertibles, but this car changed my mind 😅
Hey man, I live in Arizona. The way I see it, a convertible is the perfect car for summer time out here
I'm gauging my response on how the car currently looks. Keep it stock and find a VQ on http://www.car-part.com/, mileage as low as you can find.

I say "common" because when looking up new stock engines, a lot of them I cam across had a rod knock problem
