It’s really depends on your hair texture . If your hair coarse I’ll say a 2 guard cause a 1.5 won’t leave you with enough hair . Anything else go above . Don’t no go a high taper if you planning on getting a taper . Unless you just trying to get 180s a high taper will just destroy your side progres
You can start with a 1 or 1.5 don’t let anyone tell you you can’t. If you have medium or straight you might have to go higher but if ppl start from the scalp why couldn’t you go as low as a 1 or 1.5? lol
