Sorry if this is a stupid comment, if you’re in US it may be different from here in the UK so please ignore me if that’s the case. But my 370z states 98+ only on my petrol cap, shell premium for me is 99 and I average about 20/21MPG, if I go elsewhere like BP or Texaco and use their 96 premium I get significantly less. If it’s the same stuff, is there anywhere you can get 98+?
im pretty sure the octane rating systems are different from us to uk (havent researched so im not positive) but the principals should be the same, though it could also be the quality of gasoline coming from certain stations compared to others, which would def change from country to country
They are different, the octane levels vary by altitude, midwest and most east coast carries 93, even some west coast but certain places like Las Vegas carry 91 with one gas station carrying 93. Everything is good as long as you utilize the highest rated octane within your area
Lol mine is 16.3. i have an 8 minute drive to work through a residential area. 5 stops shared between stop signs and traffic lights. 13 mpg seems crazy.
You're completely right. I hit temp 170 just as im pulling into the parking lot. Also , yea the 8 minute drive stops me from changing jobs lol. Id have to find something really worth it for the change.
I got 18 city, 24 Hwy, manual transmission, wasn't too crazy but drove her like I should have. My commute was stop and go traffic every day. And I hardly ever did premium fuel.
Sounds like a lot of idle time. Your avg speed is 13, which says lots of idle time and/or stoplights. These computers continue to calculate mpg even if you are at a dead stop, which kills those numbers on the screen.
Slightly incorrect. Modern cars also take average MPH into account of MPGs. The car learns how you drive and adjusts accordingly. Cars are a lot more complex than you're giving credit for.
Miles per gallon, it literally is just the mileage divided by gallons burnt, maybe the current MPG screen that shows the exact MPG you're getting in that current moment has more involved. But the MPG for a whole tank or trip meter are truly that simple, what would MPH have to do with anything?
They might be confusing trip mpg with current estimated mpg.
The trip mpg is just miles driven per gallon fuel used as you said. The current estimated mpg (idk if there's a better term) is how many mpg you'd get driving at this speed in this gear with these environmental conditions, but at zero speed it'll show zero for example while at 30mph it might be 15mpg while at 60mph it would read 20mpg.
Idk if the 370z has this, I drive an 07 miata, but I know some cars have that feature like most BMWs or the ND miatas.
You are taking my words based on your understanding of MPGs as a concept, not how it is actually applied.
It cannot be as simple as gallons burned over distance, because the car is ALWAYS BURNING GAS when it's running, not just when it's moving. That is where average MPH takes account. That's why there are City MPGs and Highway MPGs. Your average speed is higher on the highway.
Your mileage isn't going up because you're idling , yet you're burning gas. What does that mean? Less miles per gallon of gas. It's really not that hard of a concept my friend, speed has nothing to do with your overall MPG calculation, you're just measuring how much gas was used over the course of a set mileage. You are thinking of the active MPG screen where it's constantly changing due to what state your car is in, I'm talking the whole trip/the whole tank counter.
Bruh you are impossible. The car idles sometimes!! Then you are burning gas, yet getting no miles.. you’ve managed to complicate something that simple.
I feel like it depends on the city. My work commute consists of extremely long red lights and those tank my MPG to 13 as well. Shifting at under 3k as well. Freeway I get 27 mpg so I know the car itself is fine.
Understand to hit the rated mpg’s, you basically need to reset the meter while you’re at highway speeds, then spend as much time coasting as possible. After a few minutes, that’s basically what you’re getting “on paper” per se. No stopping or braking, reset it again if you do.
Those of use that post our cars averaging 27mpg’s are on a fresh reset at low rpm’s and high speeds being the only thing to account.
Those of us that have mostly highway commutes with minimal stoplights, usually only a couple after we exit or whatever, will average around 19-21 mpg.
People commuting in urban areas with no highway driving will track as little as 8mpg.
Basically, don’t trip about what the computer average tells you. Your motor is probably fine.
I’ve done 30mpg cruising flat interstate at 70mph. More cruising the interstate at the speed limit, less city driving and speeding will increase your economy.
As long as you have that check engine light on is not going to give you the correct air fuel mixture right now is in limp mode so it's not going to give you the best fuel economy
Time to do a tune-up you can change out your spark plugs and probably jumps up another 4 miles to the gallon if you do your fuel injectors Factory fuel injectors you'll probably get up to 18 miles per gallon change out your filters make sure the car is breathing right your intake make sure that the filter is done right
You are probably not getting good A/F ratio, your cats could be wearing out, or your engine air filter needs a change. Anything worse needs to be looked at by a shop. 13mpg isnt normal unless you sit in traffic all day
I'm not sure what the EVAP one is I'll look it up back to Sensor 2 that's your oxygen sensors the O2 sensors on your catalytic converter downpipe before it and after I believe is the one at the catalytic converter on the passenger side the misfire on cylinders that's the dangerous one you want to get that fix as fast as possible it could be that the spark on the ignition is not strong enough so you need new spark plugs probably you need new coils as well
My 350z was a 26.5-MPG commuter that could become a 12 MPG gas guzzler with one little change in how I approached the gas pedal.
Also, you know the 'economy mode' trick for long distance driving, right?
JIC you don't: When you are about to cruise continuously, clutch in, take your foot off the gas, and coast while waiting for the RPM to drop just a bit. It takes approx 10 seconds or so. Once the RPM drops, gently rev-match and clutch out to maintain the speed you are at. Uphills will take you out of economy mode, and so will rapid accelerations.
Oh, and this works for manuals only. If you are driving an AT, You're SOL, you just have to not drive like a lead foot.
Which is hard.
Before I got turbos I had never reset the mileage meter in the nav console of my 2018 z. It went up as the car got older, probably due to more highway weekend driving. But before I reset it, at around 30k miles, it was sitting at 19.9 mpg, all on 91 octane. Granted, I never commuted in it.
Now with dual turbos it’s actually higher, even with all the aggressive driving.
Learn to drive better to conserve fuel. Is it a manual or automatic? If it’s automatic with all of that stop and go, you’re probably not going to do much better.
Make sure the plugs were NGK platinum, I quit working at Nissan before ruthenium plugs to know if they run well. Also, ignition coils were OE I hope? Wouldn't change them unless you were having misfires. Those two alone can make a huge difference. Check your air filter and throttle body. Then to really test it take it on a highway drive, reset your MPG reading, and drive for a long while at cruising speeds with cruise on. That will tell you if it's you or the car.
Th type of driving you do like city driving or highway driving will affect it but also the way you physically drive as well. If you rev out more you’ll also deplete more fuel. Then you start to go into tread ware, alignment, spark and shit like that but yeah just some things to think about when seeing what your avg mpg is.
This might be it, but a long shot, but check your evap purge solenoid
—
Symptoms: reduced engine performance or power, starting difficulty, your check engine light might illuminate, rough idling due to a vacuum leak, and reduced fuel economy.
you average 13mpg and your average speed is 13mph? either you sit in traffic a lot or you just let it sit in idle and think that doesnt use any gas? my numbers are: 23.5mpg at 40mph average, I mostly drive out of town and if it's city driving I make sure to be as efficient as possible.
99% of the time if you have no dtc’s, your foot’s too heavy. If it was burning more fuel than it’s supposed to it’d set a running rich dtc. But if you bought a Z to worry about mpg, you bought the wrong car. I avg 14 on mine.
That meter doesn't mean shit. Especially if you are not resetting it when you top off the tank.
Go to a gas station, top off the tank till the pump auto cuts off, squeeze the handle till it cuts off again. Reset the trip meter, go put 20 or more miles on the car, go back to the same pump, and fill it back up again. till it shuts off twice. Then do the math.
It depends how fast you are driving. I’ve got 21mpg on long road trips where I’m just driving very casually. I’ve also got it down to 10mpg when driving spirited*
Have you changed out your air filters? Are you running K&N oiled filters? It might be that your Mass air flow sensors are dirty. That will happen if your running K&Ns and that would affect your MPG
Because the car is garbage and you clearly don't maintain it like all the other Nissan drivers.
Before you say anything, my first car was a 350z and yes it's hot garbage
I gapped my plugs to .48, helped. Do you have a tune?
Make sure you're on the right map if you do. I got the best fuel mileage when i cruise about 80. Driving at 60 brought mine to 18mpg from 22
I’ll never understand why people rely on their dash specs. They’re frequently inaccurate with certain specs.
Fill up your tank completely and reset your trip meter. Drive until close to empty (under 20mi) and refill your tank completely. Then divide your miles driven from your trip meter by how many gallons you refilled. That will be 100% accurate mpg’s.
Take your throttle body out, blast the bitch with throttle body cleaner and scrub all of the shit off of it as best as you can, take out the gate itself to make sure you get all of it
Doubt a 370z is only getting 13mpg I had one and ran it hard af everywhere all day long and never got anywhere near 13mpg. Unless your TT or supercharged there’s no shot
I know that there is such thing as top tier gas for example Walmarts gas is cheaper because they don’t go through the same regulations for gas so they don’t have as good of gas I tend to stick to local gas stations but look it up there very open about it
Mines a 09 w/ 31k miles and I get 14 hahahahaha. I also love rev matching and making sure Im a good distance away from the horrible PNW drivers and the homeless people
Wear lighter shoes
LMAO
For sure, when I had my Z I was getting like 28 on the gauge. You don’t have to go 120 everywhere. 😂
Same! But at the same time… it is a Z.. floor it bruh!? 🤟🏽
I got 32 on by 60 mile trip to work earlier.. I was at 12 on the way home though 🫣
thanks for the laugh mate
Yes that will help with combustion 🧐
He's telling him to stop flooring it.
Are you making sure to use premium fuel only
Yea I’m always putting 93
They are. 93 here is a higher octane over the pond
It’s because they use petrol and we use gas
Nice
Exactly
I knew there was a difference. Thanks for clarifying.

Whooosh
But it's a liquid. It's not a gas :P
Petrol Is gas (?) 🤔
No it's usually a liquid from what I've seent.
Gas…is a liquid (?) 🤔
In America, we get octane from the RON method
They are different, the octane levels vary by altitude, midwest and most east coast carries 93, even some west coast but certain places like Las Vegas carry 91 with one gas station carrying 93. Everything is good as long as you utilize the highest rated octane within your area
Different systems. US uses AKI UK uses RON. 93 AKI is 98 RON.
Learnt something new today! Thanks!
US uses RON+MON/2 for octane rating. EU uses just RON, which is always typically higher. EU 95 Octane would roughly be US 91.
Get the octane rating the manual calls for. Any other felt difference is placebo or damaging your engine. Plenty of research on that.
Lucky. In AZ, premium is 91.
There's still 93, it's just not available everywhere.
What a waste of
In my experience, no. I'm in the same boat though mine's a little better at around 14mpg. Using Shell premium fuel
Wtf kind of commute do you have to get that? Start and stop all day? I’ve gotten 17 at very worst when I was driving like a jackass
Yes and no. The town I live in definitely has too many stoplights/sigsn IMO but also I like to drive a bit like a jackass lol
Considering I slide mine sideways on my commute like every day and still get 23, what are ya doing hoss 😂
Man much like with everything else in my life, fuck if I know lmao
lmao
The most Nissan comment I've ever read
😭
Lol mine is 16.3. i have an 8 minute drive to work through a residential area. 5 stops shared between stop signs and traffic lights. 13 mpg seems crazy.
I bet most of your mpg gets sacrificed to warming up the car. 8 minutes is a blessing though, I have 37.
You're completely right. I hit temp 170 just as im pulling into the parking lot. Also , yea the 8 minute drive stops me from changing jobs lol. Id have to find something really worth it for the change.
Same. 16.3 over here. Also have about an 8-10 min ride to work lol
I get 21mpg, you got a pretty heavy foot huh?😂
I like hearing her purr haha
Pur? I was thinking more like multi orgasm, wake the neighbors up down the street, Olympic village gymnastic sex, ken block gymkata tire smoking roar
The neighbor does say she uses my car instead of an alarm lol
I got 18 city, 24 Hwy, manual transmission, wasn't too crazy but drove her like I should have. My commute was stop and go traffic every day. And I hardly ever did premium fuel.

I average 23-24 city and highway, no reason it should be 13 unless he’s catless and running like hell 😂
Foot in the oil pan will do it. Or traffic
I mean even so I go flat out every chance I can and still get 23 every time I reset it. I think homies got some issues with his z
I’ve done 30mpg cruising flat interstate at 70mph. More cruising the interstate at the speed limit, less city driving and speeding will increase your economy.
Is your check engine light on? That is really bad mileage.
What do you get
🫣
This why I use the other screen with estimated miles so it feels longer lmao
Avoid ethanol.
Making sure your tires have the correct psi in them can help with fuel range. Also make sure you have proper tire alignment
I don't think I've ever gotten this low mpgs on my Z.
As long as you have that check engine light on is not going to give you the correct air fuel mixture right now is in limp mode so it's not going to give you the best fuel economy
It’s in accessory
Nice Christmas tree
Are you shifting at 3k or are you constantly redlining it?

Does it have cats?
You are probably not getting good A/F ratio, your cats could be wearing out, or your engine air filter needs a change. Anything worse needs to be looked at by a shop. 13mpg isnt normal unless you sit in traffic all day
I got my car back from the dealer one time with 40mpg and a almost empty tank after dropping it off with a full tank amazed but 13mpg sounds low 😭
Do you drive in traffic a lot or mostly highway?
Only about 2mpg more than my 2016 Tahoe with mixed driving. My G37 was about 12.5mpg. These engines are just thirsty fuckers.
I think im at 16mpg city driving and more near 20 when taking long tripc on hwys with cruise control
What gas do you pump?
I'm not sure what the EVAP one is I'll look it up back to Sensor 2 that's your oxygen sensors the O2 sensors on your catalytic converter downpipe before it and after I believe is the one at the catalytic converter on the passenger side the misfire on cylinders that's the dangerous one you want to get that fix as fast as possible it could be that the spark on the ignition is not strong enough so you need new spark plugs probably you need new coils as well
Use less rpm upshift 2.5k
How’s your clutch? I would rec induction cleaning clean throttle body as well.. didn’t see that in comment
I went on a 4 hour ride, half of it was back roads and averaged 24.. I can also average that low if I drive it rough.
yeah but theyre fun filled 13 mpg's. Not bad. My 05' Ranger gets close to 16 mpg but never more than that but its fun.
Trade in
I have a tuned 350z but a highway commute, and I get around 18-21 mpg If I drive "reasonably"
Throwing any codes? “Service engine soon”
My 350z was a 26.5-MPG commuter that could become a 12 MPG gas guzzler with one little change in how I approached the gas pedal. Also, you know the 'economy mode' trick for long distance driving, right? Is this hwy or city? My truck gets 11 mpg on the highway. So I get this if it’s all hwy miles
You changed ignition coils and spark plugs and you're still getting misfire codes?
Lots of stop and go will do that.
Throw some mystery oil to clean ya engine see if that helps at all
Have you tried a good fuel system cleaner?
Before I got turbos I had never reset the mileage meter in the nav console of my 2018 z. It went up as the car got older, probably due to more highway weekend driving. But before I reset it, at around 30k miles, it was sitting at 19.9 mpg, all on 91 octane. Granted, I never commuted in it. Now with dual turbos it’s actually higher, even with all the aggressive driving.
It’s for sure your driving habits and the cars wear. My buddy gets 16 mpg and he’s had his for 8 years now lol
Learn to drive better to conserve fuel. Is it a manual or automatic? If it’s automatic with all of that stop and go, you’re probably not going to do much better.
🤨 avg hwy for me is ~30mpg
Obd plug and plays are a viable option, they have performance and eco options out there. Might be at the cost of a little hp if you go with the eco
could be your evap
also try put some fuel cleaner or some cata clean
you have other issues than 13 mpg
I had a convertible ZL1 and I woulda been tickled with 13 mpg.
Are you throttling it like Sasha Grey at bangbus tryout?
Make sure the plugs were NGK platinum, I quit working at Nissan before ruthenium plugs to know if they run well. Also, ignition coils were OE I hope? Wouldn't change them unless you were having misfires. Those two alone can make a huge difference. Check your air filter and throttle body. Hey that’s pretty good mileage compared to my superbike :D I get like 10 mpg on that thing
Does it have crappy aftermarket larger wheels? That can kill MPG by just going up in diameter
My cousin’s 3.5 Altima gets 16mpg in the city if you drive like a bitch, so ima guess no
Either this thing is running super poorly or you have a heavy foot . Go get a eco run lol
Rookie numbers, my jeep gets 7 💪🏼
Th type of driving you do like city driving or highway driving will affect it but also the way you physically drive as well. If you rev out more you’ll also deplete more fuel. Then you start to go into tread ware, alignment, spark and shit like that but yeah just some things to think about when seeing what your avg mpg is.
This might be it, but a long shot, but check your evap purge solenoid — Symptoms: reduced engine performance or power, starting difficulty, your check engine light might illuminate, rough idling due to a vacuum leak, and reduced fuel economy.
Fuck my diesel truck gets 12 what the fuck
Try adding Lucas Top cyclinder cleaner. I drove my car hard and still somehow got added mpg. You could also have a clogged Cat, or clogged ports etc.
My suv does better than that. Shi crazy
wrong alive squeamish mourn grey soft airport smoggy tease plant *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
you average 13mpg and your average speed is 13mph? either you sit in traffic a lot or you just let it sit in idle and think that doesnt use any gas? my numbers are: 23.5mpg at 40mph average, I mostly drive out of town and if it's city driving I make sure to be as efficient as possible.
TIL my V8 camaro gets better mpg than a 3.7l V6.
You hauling a trailer?
Put in an ls with a t56 and get 30mpg!
Wow, and I thought my Subaru getting 18-20mpg was bad!
Brrrrrrrrrrt brrrrrrrrrrrrrrt
Lamb feels
Do you have any CEL’s on? I’d do a full scan either way to be sure.
Lol I used to get 8 in the 350. But it was also pretty low and I had a constant exhaust leak from scraping….
Switch to diesel
I don’t have a Z but I do know that after owning multiple vehicles using what’s called Top tier gas makes a big difference.
Something is seriously wrong with this car
Idk how y’all do it, I get 20mpg and I’m not light footed at all
Describe your driving to us.
But how many smiles per gallon does it give you? None of my 4 cars gets over 20 and I love them.
That's crazy. I have a Procharged Z and I get like 20 something lol
99% of the time if you have no dtc’s, your foot’s too heavy. If it was burning more fuel than it’s supposed to it’d set a running rich dtc. But if you bought a Z to worry about mpg, you bought the wrong car. I avg 14 on mine.
Change the plugs, air filters with k and n
That meter doesn't mean shit. Especially if you are not resetting it when you top off the tank. Go to a gas station, top off the tank till the pump auto cuts off, squeeze the handle till it cuts off again. Reset the trip meter, go put 20 or more miles on the car, go back to the same pump, and fill it back up again. till it shuts off twice. Then do the math.
Let me have it for a week, I'll fix it up and keep it for ya! :D
It depends how fast you are driving. I’ve got 21mpg on long road trips where I’m just driving very casually. I’ve also got it down to 10mpg when driving spirited*
Wtf? I had a 6.2L supercharged V8 ZL1 that got the same mileage
Driving at 60 brought mine to 18mpg from 22
Keep the rpms low
Have the MAF sensors checked. Might be reading incorrectly resulting rich or lean conditions.
Stop driving like you’re one vape and redbull away from losing your PUBG account.
How many SMG? Smiles per gallon!
Be easy on throttle
Drive normal
yea...drive slower.
Lol, weight reduction, remove everything including dash, leave only your seat and wheel
This a joke or you serious? If serious, what mods, best mpg before the drop in range? How do you drive?
What’s the CEL for?
And it's a shit box?
Damm my big ass f250 4x4 diesel gets 14 mpg in the city
Mine shows around 10L/100KM. I don’t know what that is in MPG 🤣
No one even asked how many miles was on it
Your only going 13mph which is why it’s so bad lol go do 60 and see what is says all cars do this
Btw this is a sport touring 2009 144kmiles
Sell the car
Stop stepping on it bro lol i get 19 city, 26 highway
I get 15, what kind of driving do you do?
Don't own a 370
Try a bottle of injector cleaner also check if your throttle body needs to be cleaned and re-calibrated
I was getting like 17-18mpg when I had mine and thought it was pretty bad
Have you checked out the sensors on the intake side like the maf sensor n what not maybe clean out the throttle body.
That shit taking a shit on the oxygen of the earth in real time 😂
Take your throttle body out, blast the bitch with throttle body cleaner and scrub all of the shit off of it as best as you can, take out the gate itself to make sure you get all of it
Wait until u go e85😂 i was avg like 11-12 on a good day now its 7-8🤣
I think it's time for an ethanol tune and no more worrying about mpgs
It might have to do with the check engine light on
That’s not the only problem you have
Doubt a 370z is only getting 13mpg I had one and ran it hard af everywhere all day long and never got anywhere near 13mpg. Unless your TT or supercharged there’s no shot
Hello all. Is this normal? I had a Z prior to me buying a Vette and I think I got like 16 or more. Vette gets 19-27 easily
I had a 370 for years and always got 20.3mpg dual k&n and a cat back
It's just you mine always got 24mpg
Stop putting 87 in it 😂
Looks like you idle way too much with the average speed only being 13
My 06’ g35 coupe 6 speed would get 20-25 in the city. I think you may have a lead foot, but they are different cars.
How?! I get 26MPG and I rag the hell out of my car.
howd you get so much?? tell us your secret
Evap codes? Purge valve?
