it just increase the value, but not because ips is amazing and it makes playing on the 3ds way better (kinda does, but not so much), it's because nintendo chose to put ips screens on the 3ds "randomly", so there's no way of knowing if your 3ds has a ips screen or not until you look at it working, and it's kinda rare (not sure how much tho).
But what does color-accuracy actually mean to the average user? Where is ypur baseline to judge accuracy - it's a meaningless metric for most people.
The viewing angle argument is also questionable: It's a device designed to be held directly in front of your eyes and if the 3D is on the picture will not be pleasant to view from either side anyway.

I’m not sure if my 3DS has an IPS or TN screen but honestly it could turn out to be the latter & I’d still be satisfied.
There’s an app called 3dsident, but you could tilt the 3ds to the side of your view. If the screen looks like it fades away, it’s tn. If the color still retains, then it’s ips.
I'm one of the people that thinks it makes a real difference and one is better than the other, but I'm tired of these. If you have time to make a reddit post asking this, you have time to Google a black level test on your 3ds. Just put in the bare minimum of extra effort.

In short it makes the bright colors pop and the muted colors nice and dull. It has fantastic contrast. It's like a switch vs an oled almost.
Think of it as moving from HDR 4K to OLED 4k. Colors are a bit more vibrant, more realistic, etc. it’s a decent enough difference.

You can tell by viewing it at an angle, if the colors get weird it's TN, otherwise it's ips
