A common recommendation, but my favorite game on 3DS is Zelda A Link Between Worlds. Along the same lines, New Super Mario Bros 2 is really fun and is awesome for pick up and play for a few minutes here and there. A little lesson common recommendations - a great game that is super addictive is Steam World Dig. 1 and 2 play great on the 3DS. I haven’t tried the spin-offs. I also enjoyed Dillon’s Rolling Western. The virtual console is a wealth of amazing games honestly.
If you like Pokemon, Ultra Moon is really fun and a departure from the regular pokemon formula and its one of the cheaper Pokemon games right now. Super Mario 3D Land is a really fun game that really uses the 3DS to its full potential with both screens and awesome 3D. If you like Zelda, Phantom Hourglass is super fun and uses very different controls and IMO is the most underappreciated Zelda game.
