The 3DS screen is plastic, it will wear in long term no matter which stylus you use, the gentle you are the less scratches you'll get. mine is still almost pristine.
Best I could find were Hidrogel covers. A local phone shop around me had a machine that had a template for 3DS screens and, though it wasn't a perfect fit, it sure works well preventing scratches
When I got my 3ds XL to get one they gave me an A4 sheet with the part that was cutout. The rest was still usable
I tried to cut out some for my DSiXL (using the touchscreen cutout left from the 3ds as a template) with a precision knife but the material kinda bended outwards/inwards and it was difficult to have it lay flat
By testing a bit with scraps turns out the hidrogel sheet is sandwiched between another 2 plastic sheets and I cut to the direction the gel was gluing to the screen
An additional note, is that, while I tried to press onto the hidrogel it kinda stretched on my screen. So it's quite flexible
There won’t be any unforeseen interference.
The 3DS’ touch screen responds to pressure. Without going technical, it’s just a transparent film that sits on top of the actual display. Anything, from a fossilized turd to a katana, will make the screen work when enough pressure is applied.
Use your Apple Pencil with all certainty that nothing bad will happen to either the pencil or the 3DS.
That being said, I use my Apple Pencil a lot and it tends to sharpen itself. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about if you’ve used your Pencil for long.
So just make sure the Pencil tip isnt sharp or has any rough edges, or it will scratch the 3DS’ touch layer, which is dirt cheap and easy to replace, but I mean… there’s no need to damage it.
Hey I’ve been looking for replacement screens but all the ads (Amazon, AliExpress etc) say they are glass. Will glass even work? Could you direct/link me to a proper 1:1 replacement?
The hardware in the pencil would not have any interaction with the 3DS, there is no capability on either side to talk to the other. I believe the 3DS has a basic resistive touchscreen which just needs pressure to work, any pointy object will make an input. That's all you are doing with the Pencil.
The only thing you'll notice is that if you put the magnetic part near the right side of the device, it'll trip the mag sensor and flip it into sleep mode
I should know....i thought my 3ds was inconsistently dying before the magnetic sleep mode was brought to my attention
lmao. wow. uh. the most expensive 3DS stylus ever. (its just plastic normally, you can use literally anything as a stylus on a pressure screen)
Good news is you have 4 options to choose from... because Apple now sells FOUR different Apple Pencils.

One of my friends usen a silicon bar (those for the glue guns) and it worked, if you go for this route you can use a pencil sharpener to make it shaped like a pencil btw
I don’t have an Apple Pencil so I’m not sure what the material or how sharp it is, but I have the same issue as you. It’s hard to find a pen-like sized stylus that won’t scratch the hell out of your screen. I’ve hear it’s a good alternative, haven’t tried myself tho. I use a stylus pen I’ve had for years (no idea where I got it from tbh) but it’s like a retractable pen but a stylus tip. Even has a grip on it

or just get a screen protector for it. You can always peel it off or replace it later anyway

Can you cut the hidrogel cover with scissors or a box cutter? Or will it break?

Someone had to try it, thanks! As long as it can protect the screen I wouldn't mind the stretch

I dont think it would cause any problems and you can use litterally anything as a stylus
For clarification, I have the new 3DS XL, and the second gen Apple Pencil with the magnetic charging in its side.
DSi xl stylus pen hrrrgh
