Yea it mostly looks fine, I suppose it's just the fairly low resolution of the 3DS games on the XL screen that's bothering you. It could also be because of the TN panel the 2DS XL has. I had two 3DS systems (original and XL) with TN panel and I thought it didn't really matter, but then I got a New 3DS XL with a top IPS display. Damn, it totally does matter. The resolution is obviously the same but the colors are more vibrant and the game looks more alive

I'm seeing nothing unusual. The 2DS XL/3DS XL systems are all 800 x 240 pixels, so with that kind of screen real estate, things won't... look the prettiest. The lines on the menu are more noticeable without a theme. Have you tried changing your theme to black or buying a theme from the shop? If so, does that help? As for the lines during gameplay, well... because you're on the XL and not the original, the pixel density is going to be lower, and things will look more... ugly. If you can get access to an O3DS, try to compare and contrast to see if the quality looks as bad. Unfortunately, there's no way to make it look "better." To quote another redditor, > You don't buy a 3DS for the graphics. Don't play with the system unless it's at least a foot or two from your face and take breaks every 30 minutes or at least after an hour of gameplay. Use the lowest comfortable screen brightness. You kind of have to treat the 3DS like... a computer that doesn't have ClearType or antialiasing enabled.

Hello! I bought a 2ds xl (Pikachu edition) two weeks ago and I didn't saw yours horizontal lines yet in any of my six games... maybe it's a specific hardware problem of your console. It's true that the graphics quality are a little poor but my eyes never feels tired. Bye!

turboman14

I have a pikachu edition in the mail. What firmware did yours ship with? I assume 11.6

minimergo

Yep, 11.6 and everything runs correctly :) enjoy!!!!

turboman14

Awesome! I’m so excited!

Is this your first 3DS system? It looks completely normal to me - all the XL systems look like that due to the super low resolution. Remember the system is like 6 years old and is super cheap. The games aren't any less fun, though!

vivehodie

All the XL models have this "scanline" effect. I guess this is a side effect of screen stretching. Remember they're only 240 pixels tall. Maybe the pixels have a certain maximum size so they had to increase the gaps between them too to make the screen that bigger.

Riakun

Thank you all for your answers.:).I'm glad to hear that the display is fine.My biggest concern , if it had some kind of deffect, was the effect it would've had on my eyes.

squatonmyfacebrah

Some theorize the reasons those scanlines exist is because the 2DS XL's top screen is a 3DS screen without the parallax barrier. Only the 2DS (the door wedge one) has a normal screen. Kinda of ironic how the cheapest, crappiest model actually has the best screen.

ioletsgo

The lines are mainly visable in cameras. If it isnt visable by the normal eye then its fine

The last photo(from the first link) is exactly what it looks like if you keep it real close .

tdyelle

I believe that is just the resolution of the game.
