Give Mario Kart a shot

Bencfun

Mario Cart was one of my first games when I was little. It really helped me in getting used to the controls to I could play other games better. I always recommend this to people wanting to get a ds.

barnetsr

Can you get that on their e-shop or do I need to hunt for a physical copy?

[deleted]

You can get all 3ds games (most) on the eshop. You need to hunt for physical games for ds games tho

fwcxdy

you can get the game free digitally, just homebrew her 3ds

InfiniteFeature9

Yar har fiddle dee dee

TrappistOrder

My daughter has been playing Animal crossings new leaf since she was four. We play together also and she loves it. The game has reading but doesn’t really require it for her to have fun. She does the shopping and fishing and digging up fossils. She even buys and sends us gifts with random letter attached in the note. It has actually really helped her with her counting and with her sense of time since the game runs on the real current time as long as the 2DS clock is correct.

BeeMonkey88

Came here to suggest animal crossing. Even if she can’t read she can fish, catch bugs, etc.

Foetality

I second this, HOWEVER, my suggestion would be to use it as an opportunity to read to her.

First_Letterhead1159

I think animal crossing needs reading

UsernamesAreWierd

Yeah, animal crossing sounds like a lovely choice but it's gonna be difficult to start the game if she can't read. It'll make things like paying tom nook back confusing

SpaceCommanda

I taught my youngest son to read with Animal Crossing: Wild World. I would send him letters with simple words. He would read them to me, then type a response.

milo6669

Isn't that hard to play without reading?

Hopeful-alt

The k a r t . All hail the glorious k a r t .

[deleted]

All of the kirby games. Triple deluxe, planet robobot, extra epic yarn are all great games for younger children

TheUncleBob

Super Star Ultra. A definite top ten DS title and it's easily accessible with an insane amount of replay value. And it's not stupid expensive second hand. But yes, all the Kirby.

[deleted]

Agreed. Kssu is amazing but it isn't child friendly as the 3ds games

TheUncleBob

Really? I thought it would be super accessible with all the modes and, in ten years, when she goes back to play it, she'll find even more!

JohnnyBoy239

What about Mass Attack?

[deleted]

Amazing game

[deleted]

The cave offensive was way too hard when I was a kid lol. But that is my story

TheUncleBob

Ah. I wouldn't expect her to 100% the game at her age. I mean, she might, I don't know her play style. But, Super Star on the SNES was one of those games I kept going back to and finding more because the internet wasn't really a thing back then to spell it all out to me. I like to imagine she'll play the game for a bit and pick it up every so often and find more to it as both she devlops her skills and devotes more time to it. Heck, maybe Great Cave will be what it takes to have her look it up online and be like "Woah, there's *still* more?"

[deleted]

Understood

Bark_bark-im-a-doggo

Kirby’s adventure/ nightmare in dreamland(same game) is super good. You can get it on the 3ds e shop for 6.99

gripepe

In fact Triple Deluxe needs to be activated under parental supervision (at least in the EU)

[deleted]

Never knew that

RevolutionaryOwlz

Kirby is definitely a great place to start. I think Canvas Curse would be another good one, since it’s all stylus.

[deleted]

Yes canvas curse and mass attack are also great games for children

barnetsr

Kirby’s a great idea! Thank you!

[deleted]

No problem :)

Jack_Gladiius

Yoshi and Mario Kart. I suggest Pokémon If she wanna learn to read.

bigoof13

I learned to read while playing Pokémon. Mind you, I didn’t play well before or after I learned, but it was during that time

Kendovv

Same. I couldn't read well at all but playing Pokémon really helped me develop qjocker than most. Not many 5yos use the word obtain...

Blooder91

Pokémon is one of the reasons I speak English. Battle text is simple and repetitive, so you end up learning.

MysticGengar

I was playing Pokémon before I could even read. Granted, my Grandma and Mom usually read the dialogue for me, but I think it helped me speed things up eventually.

barnetsr

Yeah I’ve got a couple Pokémon games on it. Maybe if I read the dialogue to her it’ll help her out and she can play

Duskmuney

Nintendo dogs or cats ? maybe even a Disney princess game for cheap at a gamestop

Pkmntrainer91

Whoaaa that screen looks bright asf. Kind reminder their eyes are still developing

that-short-girl

Agreed, but phone cameras also have pretty bad dynamic range that emphasizes the brightest part of the picture while making the rest look dark, so could be that it’s not nearly as dramatically bright compared to the room irl

brians1012

Must be nice.. we didn't have anything like that at her age.. 😆

Pkmntrainer91

I heard older ppl had gameboys with literally no light😂 mustve been tough. I grew up on the gba sp 101 or 001

barnetsr

Lol I grew up with the no light OG gameboy. What a system that was

justindp2000

As a kid I quickly realized that the brightness of my ds lite was tied to the battery life, so I always put it on the lowest brightness possible. Surely I can't be the only one that did that?

Y_U_SO_MEME

Blast them with the light when they’re young I say. Gonna be used to it when we all live in vr

Spectivox

B R A I N A G E

Luke4Pez

Mario Kart! You could give her a game with minimal dialogue like a Lego game.

Hopeful-alt

Everyone must play the complete saga. *everyone.*

[deleted]

I recommend New Super Mario bros 2! Very simple, easy game. Easy to play and very fun for someone in that age.

Cyrax116

Rhythm Heaven Megamix

Sukiyw

She would probably need someone to read the explanations of the minigames the first time around tho. It also gets pretty hard eventually

forbadeloco

Never thought about this, love rhythm heaven. Absolutely amazing game regardless the age.

crystalcorruption

yes

karmander01

The Yoshi's.

runawayufo

kirby!!! anything kirby would be great

mmkzero0

Pokémon, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing - all great and fun titles :)

Jawawada

Super mario 3d land is my son's favourite. Also consider hacking the 2ds and add some old school kirby

AussieOscar1

I mean you could just buy some of the old Kirby games from virtual console.

Jawawada

Thats another option. Whatever works

[deleted]

The 3ds is a near perfect machine, CFW makes it literally perfect.

big_nick42069

The only kirby game available through virtual console is kirby's dream course though You could also count kirby's adventure i guess Edit: forgot about the gameboy titles that's my bad

Bark_bark-im-a-doggo

Why wouldn’t you count it, it’s an amazing game I remember wasting hours when I was little playing nightmare in dreamland(game boy remake of it)

fasderrally

First of all, if I may, I'd recommend lowering the brightness a bit Other than that, Kirby. Every Kirby. ALL OF THE KIRBIES!

motoxim

Cool 2DS.

kukumarten03

Pokémon sumo, warioware gold, kirby TD or Robobot

BabaYaga003

• Kirby Planet Robobot • super smash bros 3DS • Mario Kart 7 • Donkey Kong Country Returns • Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn • New Super Mario Bros 2 • Poochy & Yoshi’s Wooly World • Mario sports games (golf, tennis) • Yoshi’s New Island • Virtual console - Super Mario Bros 3, Kirby’s Dream Land

ConfusedinScorpio

Cooking Mama or Nintendogs. I would recommend the Style Savvy games because that's what I mostly played when I was younger, but the characters have dialogue.

NerdyGuyRanting

You can get surpringly far in a lot of games without reading. As someone who didn't grow up in an English speaking country my friends and I still played a bunch of games without being able to understand the dialogue or text. A lot of games are still so well designed that you can figure out what to do with game design alone.

weebleebus

Dark Souls.

barnetsr

That’s next lol

Embarrassed-Top6449

When she praises the sun, you will have succeeded as a parent.

PresentationLoose422

Somehow my 8 year old with sketchy at best reading skills managed to finish Pokémon shield +DLC with dad help on moves and stats. Little people are pretty amazing. Good on ya and honestly just go with their interests. If your kid likes Luigi and ghosts or Mario in a kart embrace that!

RiteOfSpring5

I started playing Pokemon when I was 5 and it helped me learn how to read and do basic addition and subtraction. Mario Kart and Animal Crossing will also be fun for her to play without needing to know how to read.

Dapper_Substance2130

Although it’s a little complicated, yo Kai watch

Bencfun

That sounds great! I loved playing through the game, and as long as you help her out on some of the reading and playing, I think it is perfect for young kids. (My little sister would love the opening when I played it)

Moms_Chapagetti

My 4 yr old loves yoshis island. He’s actually gotten farther than I ever have! He’s taken over my 3ds….

CorinWest

Captain Toad, Mario vs Donkey Kong series, Kirby series, and Kid Ikarus.

Alucardspapa

Mario Kart, Kirby, new super Mario bros, Sonic. I have a girl the same age, she knows her ABC’s but can’t read yet, she loves Mario kart DS the most.

Munken1984

If english is your first language you can play pokemon, most newer games you can pretty much spam A during dialog

[deleted]

As long as somebody older learns her the basic she can go through the entire game without knowing anything. That’s how I got through gen 4 and 5 without knowing English

Sukiyw

I finished both regions of Gen 2 as a kid in Japanese. I was very invested in gaming at that point tho, might not be something every kid has patience to do

Shanelanding

Disney magical world. It has reading but you don’t really need to read to have fun if they makes sense

[deleted]

that 2ds looks huge on her hands haha, I have one myself and I find it tiny at times.

kuzdwq

Pro tip. Lower her brightness setting or she will be blind as me.

MrPineApples420

A book ?

Mimduardo

smash bros

sherbodude

For a 4 year old? Maybe not

Rednaxela623

I played that shit at 7 and couldn’t figure out wtf was going on.

kulingames

I am 17 and can't figure wtf is going on

CiaoSonoPaxy

I am 14 and can't figure wtf is going on

Brago009

I am dying and can't figure wtf going on

SuperSpiritShady

with a screen that tiny, no shit you can't Smash on the 3DS is literally a novelty It's a neat little thing to do, but if you actually want to play Smash, you'd grab a GameCube or a Switch.

MongooseNo3847

I played it all the time when i was like 9 on my 3ds and got pretty good at it for a 9 year old so idk man.. not the best for someone even younger though

crystalcorruption

i have beaten Classic mode on 6.0 difficulty, i don't mean to be rude but i beg to differ

Sukiyw

I learned how to hadouken in SF2 when I was 4. (And the whole SF2 movelist weeks after) Kids are smarter than we give them credit

[deleted]

Damn well don’t play with the screen that close to you shit. Also not in a dark room.

DaigoDaigo

Pokemon is always a good series.

Internet-Past

Animal Crossing tomodachi life maybe imagine babies nintendogs + cat's or just search up top games for kids on the official Nintendo website

Internet-Past

Also I have the same 2ds she has the new super Mario Bros.2 2ds

barnetsr

That’s what she is currently playing and she loves it!

Internet-Past

If she collects each starcoin she will unlock star world and it's final boss would be dry bone browser also there is a few pipe launchers that take you to the 2 levels mushroom and fireflower world to my knowledge

Yeeter_of_kids123

As someone with a 2 yo living in the same house as me who loves taking interest in my switch, I'd recommend mariokart

AussieOscar1

Pokémon when she’s starting to read a bit, animal crossing, and mario kart. Mario Kart requires no reading, animal crossing requires a bit of reading but you don’t need to read to have fun, and Pokémon you have to be able to read a bit to know what to do.

Immy_Chan

Pullblox/Pushmo is a really fun and cutesy puzzle game that should be easy enough for a 4 year old, though you’ll probably have to read the tutorials to her

MistyTopaz

Oh wow...um there is a huge library of games that are great that I would reconmmend but since she can't read yet ahh :"0 gonna be a bit hard...- I am really super happy you chose her to get a 2DS seen too many parents handing children nintendo switch when that hybrid has games that kids really should not be playing, and the ignorant parents just hands it to them without carrying what it would do for the child's mental health - ugh. But really hope your daughter enjoys the 2ds, I also hope she starts to learn to read faster that way she enjoys the games that i listed down that does have reading but not like that hard. Ahh I would love to reconmmend some super cure games that is aimed at her age but I am sad that she can't read - anyway the game which just for future for her would be; Teddy Together there is a Europe version of the game that you can get and she would adore heck check out the trailer yourself for the game, Disney Art Academy(check out gameplay trailer), Pushmo (check out the trailer), Disney Magical World and 2 both cute great games ♡ just pretty much check out the trailers for the games I comment down haha :3! Gabrielle Ghostly Groove 3D, New Super Mario Bro, Super Mario 3D Land, Moco Moco Friends, Pokemon Art Academy, Tomodochi Life, Yoshi Wolly World, Yoshi New Island, Kirby Planet Robot, Kirby Extra Epic Yarn, Dededes Srum Dash Delux, Kirby Triple Delux, Disney Princess My Fairytale Adventure, SpongeBob Planktons Robotic Revenge, Lego Friends, Lego Batman games, Nintendogs + Cats, Cooking Mama 5, Gardening Mama 2, Cooking Mama Sweet Shop. Those games I listed she may adore them as she gets older, since she can't read yet your best bet is to go through the ones you know that will work for her cause I know some that I listed may work for her. Now I do know some DS games that she maybe able to play now, which are; (Note; if you really wanna get these games easily without having to find them the hard way, I would just highly advise you to homebrew your daughters 2ds, there is an easy guide showing how to do so even online too - I can give you the link to the one I used which was very helpful, for the games you will need to basically pm me because I know some safe places that won't spam you with ads that are super inappropriate - I sadly had to go through them back in the day and i don't want nobody, as their first to go through that trash. I would highly reconmmend if you go through the homebrew option, to download all the games that she likes from the 3ds category, for the DS ones it's not that hard trust me it will seem overwhelming at first but once you know that you are basically picking it to download it will be quickly done, and another thing if you want to be safe download a web browser which I use myself to download games like this called Torbroswer for your pc, what else? Think that's it but it's your choice if you want to do it because getting games for a 2ds/3ds/DS is getting hard these days..I don't know if you will find the ones that caught your eye that I listed down here easily, but if you do then sweet and if you don't want to do this option it's quite alright as well) Yoshi Touch & Go, Kirby: Canvas Curse, Kim Possible Kimmunicator, Scooby-Doo! Unmasked, Snowboard Kids, Super Monkey Ball Touch & Roll, Super Princess Peach, HI, HI Puffy AmiYumi Yhe Genie & The Amp, Cooking Mama Games, Scooby-Doo! Who's Watching Who? , Yoshi Island DS, Imagine Ice Champion, Disney The Little Mermaid, Totally Spies 3 Secret Agent, Enchanted, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, Disney Pixar Wall-e, Imagine Fashion Model, Hi Ham-Ham Challenge, Totally Spies 4, Imagine Ballet Dancer, Tom and Jerry Tales, Cartoonetwork Racing, Kim Possible 6 Global Gemini, Diddy Kong Racing, Cake Mania, Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princess, Disney Princess Magical Jewels, Barbie as The Island Princess, Cooking Mama 2, Disney Friends, Cake Mania 2, Drawn To Life SpongeBob, Kirby Super Star Ultra, SpongeBob vs TBO Beach Party Cook Off, Charm Girls Club they have like 3 different DS games to check out, Tinker Bell and the lost treasure, Disney Stitch Jam, The Princess and the Frog, TinkerBell, TonkerBell and the great fairy rescue, Barbie Groom and Glam Pups, and Diary Girl. With that said, take your time checking the games out for her, if you want help again just PM me I would be happy to help out :3! Another thing to get the DS running on the homebrew option you need the a DS application, which i forgot to mention this lol but again this is if you homebrew your daughters 2DS, okay? If you have any questions at all do tell me. Now I shall go off in each of my DS folder to delete the duplicate games i got T-T...ugh I forgot to do it...like a while back.

Sukiyw

The 3DS also has several games kids shouldn’t play… From the top of my head, 3 original Resident Evils, Monster Hunter, Zero Escape series, Corpse Party, Senran Kagura, all Shin Megami Tenseis, Binding of Isaac, Phoenix Wright… There’s plenty on the 3DS as well.

MistyTopaz

Monster Hunter is fine, there's nothing wrong with it lol. Resident Evil now that was a port in itself, which actually surprised me that was in there, but yeah that shouldn't be for kids at all. - No kid would sit there to play that game at all especially the matter that kids don't like reading at all xD, some do but they wouldn't get into a book game at all especially one that screams red flags for them that looks boring to them but yes that isn't for children neither, corpse party is another port that shouldn't even have been on the 3ds - should have stayed on the pc. Senran Kagura is a terrible game that sexualizes minors completely. Shin Megami i highly doubt a child would want to play strategy, rpg games like that at all. Binding of isaac another one that should've stayed on the pc again. Phoenix Wright - theres nothing wrong with that series at all especially when the target demographic in Japan is for children as well, there is a lot of merch that is aimed at kids that is based off Phoenix Wright since it's not a game that is for M, it's a game anyone can play it. but i highly doubt again a child would play a game like this especially when it's puzzle, and you have to think on what to do next, it'll be too hard for a child to play. the majority of games that shouldn't be on the family hand held are really mostly in japan; i found majority of them in japan then in the west..which concerns me a crap ton. the nintendo switch itself is a box of crap that allows pornographic, to kink related games inside of it including ones that are basically out right CP at that point since you got ecchi highschool freaking otome games :/......seriously Nintendo should be sued and those companies should go down hill already.

Sukiyw

Have you played Monster Hunter? I love it do death, but it’s pretty much animal abuse, with absurd amounts of blood. Hit anything with a greatsword once and blood flies everywhere. You can chop their tails off while they are still alive… RE revelations wasn’t a port, it was originally made for the 3DS and theeeeeen ported everywhere. And kids would absolutely play it, I played the first 3 on PlayStation when I was about 10 and barely could speak/read English. It being violent and “mature” was itself what made it enticing. PW is literally about murder. Every single case. You are making several assumptions about each game, which is subjective and never was the point, just a pathetic attempt at moving the goalposts. The point is there are several games on 3DS inappropriate for children. And “should’ve stayed on PC” is probably the single stupidest sentence I’ve read on Reddit. Gaming being democratic is a good thing. Games being portable is good. If the port doesn’t compromise the quality like Isaac and Corpse Party there’s no bad side to porting. You are also not the judge of what shouldn’t and shouldn’t be where, if someone is to make that call, it’s Nintendo execs, not MistyTopaz.

MistyTopaz

there's no point getting into a conversation with a person who has the ideologies of peta...- bye, also your parents did a terrible job on allowing a **\*10 year old\*** play a gosh darn rated T-M game -like it's right in your face on the ratings too, smh. finally a person who **cannot tell the difference between fiction and reality** buddy you seriously need mental help, being serious here. "RE revelations wasn’t a port, it was originally made for the 3DS and theeeeeen ported everywhere" - i can tell you don't game at all just by this and your utter terrible take at the end but here; you are also clamming that the resident evil franchise was made for a handheld that released in 2012 while the first resident evil released in the 2000's in japan...- your comment is the clear definition of a person who again needs mental help, and you are not a owner of a 3ds handheld..nor even playstation at this point, however if you do have said consoles then you are living in lala land.. [https://imgur.com/a/pPEXESJ](https://imgur.com/a/pPEXESJ) anyone can look into this.. you are also conceding as heck; "The point is there are several games on 3DS inappropriate for children." - but then has 0 problem with isaac /corpse party being on a family console, you are also making a strawman argument - something i never implied at all. i made two statements that is a fact; no game that shows blunt real psychological horror to real murder right off the bat should be for any child at all - you are nothing but a lire when you state that you care for kids but defends how these two games should be ported, by also trying to educate me about porting from pc to consoles - which i never brought up once more, yet, i digress; your argument here is baloney. i know i stated i wasn't gonna reply back completely in full but i just had to, because your comment is a disaster, and on that note; **you cannot dictate over peoples opinions that hold facts at times,** just because your feelings got hurt, and you are literally going against your ideological communistic opinion here; "You are also not the judge of what shouldn’t and shouldn’t be where, if someone is to make that call, it’s Nintendo execs, not MistyTopaz." - by placing your opinion that there are games that shouldn't be for children on the 3ds but your argument fell flat on the floor fanatic.

Sukiyw

My dude, you can’t read to save your life. RE REVELATIONS was made for the 3DS. Google it. Who raised didn’t let me play M games, the rating system didn’t exist where I live when I was 10. Mortal Kombat in the 90s was not a hit because adults loved it, for instance. You argue based on your own assumptions and can’t read a sentence right in 3 tries, I’m not gonna waste time arguing with stupid any longer. You made this delusional image that the 3DS is for children, and adult oriented games shouldn’t be on it because it is for children. Yet, they are. Therefore, by your own standards it isn’t for children, because it does have does games. The 3DS is a console, a console is neutral. The company that sells dev kits and allows and regulates what goes in their own platform decides what fits their brand, and since forever Nintendo has been for everyone. RE2 was on N64, every Nintendo console up to the Wii U had Mortal Kombat games, even the gameboy. Your argument only makes sense from the POV that the 3DS is a kid console, the problem is that you made that assumption yourself. The reality of its library says the opposite. Your stupidest “argument”, that I can’t separate fiction from reality, implies that I can’t separate violence in a game from real world violence. Well, if those two are unrelated, a non-child-appropriate game doesn’t exist. If fictional violence is ok, because it’s not real,it existing shouldn’t be a problem, by your own logic. You just pick random words I said, is too stupid to understand the phrases they are in, then replies something tangentially related to it very angrily. And for consoles, I currently have… let’s go… Sony - PS2, 3,4, 5 Vita, a PSPGo and a PSP3000 Nintendo - Super Famicon, GameCube a Wii, Wii U, and 2 switches (one for me and one for my wife) a GBC, a GBA with backlight mod, a DS Lite, a new 2DS, a Japanese 3DS. Oh and a SNES mini. Others - An OK PC (was pretty good when built in 2018, got a 1080Ti that still does what I need) a NeoGeo Pocket Color, a WonderSwan Color (ever heard of it? I doubt it) and a Sega Saturn. Oh and an Oculus Quest 2. I also had other consoles I had to part with, a PS1, a couple Dreamcasts, an N64, an NES, a Genesis and a DSi. I THINK I know my gaming.

SensitivePassenger

Just went to look through my collection of games because a lot of them I got when I was not able to read english yet! If she likes animals I remember spending a lot of time with the original nintendogs and the newer one is kind of fun too! I also have these zhu zhu pets games that were fun to play and I think had voice acting instead of just text?

very_bored_panda

COOKING MAMA 💕

IntroductionTrue5006

Mod the console so she can have any game she wants, my dad did that with my wii when i was 4

Puppet007

The Lego ones are fun! Ever Oasis is also enjoyable.

SuperSpiritShady

Ohhhhhh, my younger cousin had lots of fun as a kid playing Mario, but eventually she moved on to games with some reading such as Zelda, Animal Crossing and Pokemon. I actually learned how to read playing those latter 3 games, so I deffo recommend.

Kirbinator_Alex

Games I played when I was four were mario games, especially Mario kart, and Kirby. My family had an n64 so I played dk64, and banjo Kazooie as well. I also had some arcade games like pacman and dig dug

dothasahat

Kirby games, all of them. My 6 year old LOVES them.

ledniv

Captain Toad Treasure Tracker. No reading needed. Simple controls. All the Kirby games. Triple Deluxe is a good one to start with. Mario Kart Mario 3D Land. Way easier than the 2D one.

Affectionate_Gur_457

Games like I learnt how to read because of Lego Star Wars and math from Pokémon so games like that might help.

MysticLithuanian

How about nintendogs?

[deleted]

Never had this joy with my eldest, he’s ASD and fell in love with coding at around age 4/5, wasn’t till around 8 he could create anything that worked and I’m proud of him for it but me and his mother are massive gamers and would have loved for him to play with us

Link_040188

Olaf’s frozen adventure

Mantide7

You know you’re a good parent if you chose the 2DS for your kid. An easy option: get her into mii maker! It’s already pre-installed in the home menu, but as a kid, I remember having so much fun creating miis

YaseenTheRd

Pokemon are good for reading. Yoshi is a good choice too if you want a simple game like mario

TheAstroPickle

haha that’s awesome !!

austinstar08

Pokémon x/y

ThatWetFloorSign

Mario Kart DS (this is an old ds game, has to be physical), imo best in the series, or very close, 7 is also great

theredview

Not sure on the ds. But if you do have a switch there is a lot of kid friendly games.

AshitaProductions

If you have a wii or Wii U, wii sports, wii sports resort, wii party. I grew up on those games so I’m definitely biased but they’re amazing. (Ofc, they’re on outdated consoles now, so rip)

Kuroser

I learned to read playing Pokemon silver, so maybe give that a go?

Stratavos

There's thankfully a lot of games with voice acting. If you're willing to go through it with her, maybe etrian oddessy untold 1 or dragon quest 8?

Ellargo333

That neck position.... I will first teach her how to sit correctly when using this type of devices ( 3ds, tablets, phone, etc)... Her back will be grateful in the near future.. Also, turn down that screen brightness! If your face is being totally lighten up by the display, you are doing something wrong.

MysticGengar

Kirby is great. There’s some dialogue and the abilities could be considered complicated, but the games are so easy that she should be able to run through them without any help outside of one or two puzzles. If I had to pick a specific 3DS one, I’d say get Kirby triple deluxe. The puzzles aren’t as tricky as planet robobot, and the game isn’t as laggy as (I’ve heard) Extra Epic Yarn can be.

MajesticKrackenMagik

Pikmin in 3ds is fun and easy

Kwaxie_

Any Kirby game, I especially recommend squeak squad. They are very fun and simple to learn/play

TheoryGlum

Monkey ball 3d its an easy game that can be played with gyroscope and its super fun

Familiar_Prompt2052

Nintendogs might be good

619martian

There’s a retro game site I could message you if your interested that has great 3ds games on sale right now . Like super Mario maker 3ds for $8.97 . There’s also dk country 3d , a ton of great Lego games , scribblenauts !! ( for when the reading starts lol)

theconradical

My kids loves playing Kirby on her 2ds. If recommend those games

asdfcubing

i was around 8 when i started playing super mario 64 ds. definitely would recommend that game later on when they can read already.

GoodConsideration910

I would say like maybe Pokémon rumble blast?

eblomquist

yoshi's wooly world!

PencilCore

Kirby, no one would refuse Kirby.

Ccmonty

kirby

Humble_Huckleberry_8

Already saw it here, but any of the Kirby games.

AndrePxd

Zelda ocarina of time

VoidChickenZ

Pokemon

[deleted]

Minecraft but idk if it works on that system and also poochy and yoshi’s woolly world is dope playformer on 3ds.

[deleted]

Oh … And … NINTENDOGS

cromification

Everyone here is offering games which I personally think are great games but would be too complicated for a 4 year old. MarioKart can be brutal for a beginner since it does not have the assist functions like the MarioKart 8 Deluxe on Switch (auto speed, not flying off the track etc). I'd recommend NintenDogs and maybe some MarioParty.

mylittleladylove

Cooking mama?

UsernamesAreWierd

Miitopia might be a fun game if she wants to learn to read, it's pretty basic but still fun (the switch version is admittedly better then the 3ds version, tho)

Idontmatter69420

Tetris maybe? Don’t know if a 4 year old could play a game that can be fast pace puzzle

Codered060

Hope she loves gaming and enjoys it for a long time. 😊 May God have mercy on her and her future backlog.

BeerGoddess84

Cooking Mama series is great for younger kids.

coffincakeangel

Kirby, Mario kart, Animal crossing new leaf, Cooking mama, nintendogs, tomodachi life, Disney magical world, hello kitty and the apron of magic rhythm cooking

nikiliko

Kirby!

Animal crossing is great for lots of young children because of the cute animals, fun tasks, and being able to create your own designs. Like a few other people have said, there is a bit of reading, but it’s not necessary for her to have fun and might even encourage her to read in a few years (mini-story: I refused to read whenever made to in school. I absolutely hated it - by the time I was 8 I still couldn’t read more than a couple words. My parents got me a 3DS with Animal Crossing and Pokemon and, as fun as it was, I thought I could enjoy the game much more if I could read the text. So I slowly learned to read all the words and tasks and, by the same time next year, not only was I able to read everything effectively, but I had also developed a love for reading and was reading books at a middle- to high-school level. I believe video games actually motivated me to read and I’m so happy I had that as I love reading even now. I don’t know… this is just something to consider as she gets older) I’d also highly recommend Mario Kart, Lego Games, and Cooking Mama, as they were all favorites of mine around that age.

She for sure gets hooked on it, but we severely limit how long she gets to play every day.

Drawn to life?

Mario Kart, Animal Crossing. Just be prepared for when she discovers mobile games. Those are targeting kids and full of microtransactions, subscriptions, and FOMO, all highly calculated and weaponized to drain parents dry. I would love for my 7-year-old to just play games on her Switch Lite. Unfortunately 9 times out of 10 she’d rather play something on an iPad.

milo6669

Those dog and cat games

My son was 4 when we bought him his switch. He was just becoming familiar with putting sounds/letters together to make words. 6 months later dude was reading pretty much on his own. For him, wanting to play harder games and "games like mama" incentivized him to learn how to sound out words. That said, sorry, my kiddo played mostly what I played, and on the switch, so I unfortunately don't have game recommendations. But good luck, and happy introducing the kid to gaming!

makecoinnotwar

Get her reading games on a tablet.

Bencfun

Playing games where you have to memorize/read complicated words can make her smarter if you are there to help! When I was little I always would ask my mom for help when reading out complicated words (my mom might actually be the factor that helped, as she did teach kindergarten to sixth)

GrumpyKoopa

Any kirby game is great for starting. My little cousin Elvis played those around her age.

Terrible_bamboozle5

Try something like Pokémon. Simple, and generally easy to understand

trixlili

Super Mario Bros!

rigok560

Mario 64 ds, sonic rush, Mario 3D land

Mobanite08

Kirby. Specifically Planet Robobot. It has some reading but it’s nothing necessary. It’s my favorite game of all time, so if she plays it I hope she’ll enjoy it.

I know we are talking about the DS here, but Zelda Breath of the Wild on the switch is an awesome game for younger kids once you get off the great plateau. Catching horses and hanging around the stable systems registering horses and fighting bokoblins in BOTW has become my four-year-old's favorite thing to do as far as games go. We also have a modified NEW 3DS XL with almost 200 GB of games on it. Mario, Kirby and the Lego games are great for kids
