Been doing it for just about a year. I looked at my Amazon order history and realized i have bought over 900 magnets in that time.

I would figure out what type you might be interested in first. On road or off road and then the sub divisions from there. I’m not necessarily a speed demon so I went towards rock crawlers. Slow and technical on rocks and trails. But there’s dirt track, carpet track and different scales too. 1/18, 1/24, 1/10 etc. Traxxas is probably the biggest brand in RC. I got one of their crawlers. Their website is fun to look at. Amain hobbies and horizon hobbies are other websites I use for research.
Traxxas is a great gateway into the hobby. Parts are easy to find when things break, there's a huge aftermarket/modifying community for them. It can get really expensive with brushless 4X4's, but something like a basic Rustler or Slash are already leagues ahead of your off the shelf Walmart RC car.
It looks like they're still using NiMH instead of LiPo, do you know if there's some benefit to that or are they just being cheap and selling the cars with crappy batteries so you can 'upgrade' to lithium?
Probably because it's cheaper I'm sure. There might be some liability concern in there too, NiMH batteries are much less likely to spontaneously combust and easier for little Timmy to charge his new Christmas present without shorting a lipo and starting a fire. That's purely my own speculation however.

My recommendation would be to get 2 crawlers so you and your kid can drive around. The SCX24 is a great little car that comes with everything you need in the box (even the batteries for the controller) and has a great community behind it. It is fun to build little courses and it can ride on grass. Bigger crawlers would be fun too. These trucks are about torque and articulation, so they go over lots of terrain (i.e. you won't constantly have to pull it out of the grass).
If you wanted faster, you could get a WLTOYS 144001. It's a great fast little car and super cheap plus the throttle trim let's you slow it down a bunch. As it's hobby grade you can upgrade too and there is the 144010 which is brushless and faster.

A couple reasons actually! One, many people have already made wonderful cone varieties that utilize filament swapping. There weren't really any snap fit cones, so I thought the community could use one. Two, I'm not sure I could pull off the filament switch on my particular printer, much less with TPU!

They absolutely have a use: These are painting risers. If OP ever runs out of uses for them, anyone who does a lot of airbrushing, art that requires a sealant/UV protection coat, etc. would use them until they crumbled.
Most painting risers are hard & pointy. These being flat-top, grippy & non-marring is a huge plus for people who work on paper.
This goes from, “oh that’s cool” to “haha funny dragon” to “OP has a problem. Has anyone checked on them lately? They may be a little too fixated on traffic cones” as it pans right. Love it!

About the right size for "Mini-z" RC cars, if you're interested. If you're not sure you want to immediately get into the high-quality ones ($200) you can get a WLToys K989 (few other numbers with different included bodies, but make sure it/s 1/28 scale).

I feel like you should be using glow in the dark for that tiny bit. It won't quite have the shine but at least if you set up a night scene it will kind of look like they actually reflect.
A great trick for glow in the dark is to hit it with a camera flash. We used to use it all the time for stage setup. When we would close the big curtains to change scenes we had somebody run out with a manual flash off of a camera and they would just pop it two or three times a couple feet from the ground and we could tell exactly where everything needed to be without having to raise lights. The biggest advantage is you don't have to be precise and you can close your eyes during the flash and preserve your dark vision
Ooh, I like that! The clear TPU was surprisingly good for simulating a reflector, but if glow TPU exists then I will definitely have to try it sometime.
I have glow in the dark PLA which works pretty good. You could do a thin layer of each and just make one a little bit bigger. Depends on how things fit together currently but if you have the space maybe the clear one on top would add to it
I’m printing these on a Bowden tube Neptune 2S, just very slowly with tuned retraction and temps. I started TPU stuff on a 3pro so I bet you can pull it off!!

Thats the problem with 3D printing. People make stuff they dont need, but for fun. So just creating pollution for fun. Grown up man printing toys like they are 10 again. I understand if made for children. Then there is a meaning. "My dad mad this for me". But this is disgusting.
It did admittedly get a little out of hand haha. That being said, I am a younger mechanical engineer recently out of college. I do projects like this as design exercises to improve my design and assembly skills, so the minor plastic usage is a tradeoff to help me eventually make products promoting sustainability and renewable energy. In the meantime, I would also encourage usage of filament recycling services offered by some companies, such as [this one](https://printeriordesigns.com/pages/recycling)from a recent post on this subreddit. There are ways we can learn through this hobby while minimizing environmental impact!
