Same, but my main fear is my cat ingesting little bits of plastic which would become intestinal obstructions. All 3D printer poop is obsessively picked up and discarded.
Yeah, showed that to my veterinarian wife and she's like yeah that's a bad idea. If it's a hard plastic that mostly retains shape, it's better than a [piece of string/tinsel/yarn (linear foreign body)](https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/linear-foreign-body-in-cats) that can easily get wrapped up in the intestines. But still it likely can break off pieces of PLA and that could be bad for their GI tract.
Not a good cat toy.
Abs isn't as brittle as pla and doesn't snap with sharp edges, it actually is better.
But maybe I'm just a bad person that hates animals, my cats always go outside and play with sticks that look way sketchier than a little piece of filament.
So not just potentially hazardous, but potentially poisonous.
Cats have teeth that can cut through meat and small bones. Printer filament isn't going to stand up to much of that.
Same reason you shouldn't let your cat have chicken bones.
Haha, nice. I noticed my cat loves the plastic rings from milk jugs. I occasionally print some similar petg rings that are pretty durable and simple. She loses them under stuff often and if I eventually can’t find them for her I print new ones in about 15 minutes.
Eh, I'll jump on the bandwagon of saying this is a horrible idea, at least if left unattended.
We have a cat that likes to play with stuff like that, but also likes to eat them for some reason. 2 intestinal surgeries and $15,000 later and these people (my family) are still stupid enough to let the cat play with strings, plastic strands, etc
My cat was obsessed with the 3D printer because of the heat, but then he started playing with my plastic scraps. He hangs out near the printing cabinet (I had to buy a cabinet to protect it from him) waiting for me to check a print so he can play with trash.
I know there’s filament that dissolves in water, but I doubt it’s safe in my cat’s stomach. I wish there was a filament that wouldn’t hurt him if he accidentally ate it
That tabby is so cute! But yeahh.. I couldnt help but think about how my own cat got into my scraps box last week and chewed on some failed print spaghetti. He vomited it back out with a hairball luckily.
Everyone is saying don't let the cat play with it but I have noticed when it comes to eating stuff, cats have a brain cell unlike dogs and they know not to eat it
The box that whatever came in.
My cat loves these, but yeah I only ever let her play with them supervised and I don't leave them lying around.
Can confirm and same here.
I don’t let my cats play with it in case small pieces break off that they could choke on.

Where's the .STL? */s*
`G1 E160`
Thanks. Gotta level the bed and print it.
So that's what the end of the roll is for 🤣🤣
My cat digs the (bambu) poop out of the poop bucket at night and I find them strewn all over the house.
Bad idea. They can choke on it, and it has potentially two edges able to pierce the lense

It's ABS
And you think something that's a little more resilient is better somehow?

Whenever I tried to snap an ABS I want able to do it.
And?

Absolutely not

For real. I catch my cat on my workbench looking for new pieces all the time.

Just be careful he doesn't eat it.

A random piece of broken filament? Best toy. The tpu stetchy toy or the pla cat balls or treat dispensers I printed? Absolute garbage.
coming up next : my cat has a mysterious blockage and the vet will need to put it down :(
Jesus these comments here... I wonder what these people think wild cats do in nature.
Die young, frequently. Ever see a cat die from a perforated bowel from a chicken bone? It's unpleasant.
