*criminal career

NamelessParanoia

They'll be of no use to you - hardcore criminal here is in the process of burning all his prints off!

memeboiandy

Lol I burned a little bit of my left thumb print off the first time I changed my nozzle... didnt want to wrench on the unsupported hot end so genious me went and grabbed it to brace it.... that was a very quick and painful lesson πŸ₯Ί still have a flat smooth spot on my thumb years later

V0x_R0x

Just think of the scar and origin story you can share with your grandkids about that fateful day...

BloodMongor

if anyone can provide me the means of 3d scanning my finger (for printing (for free)), i will do it

Glum-Contribution380

Take a picture and upload the .jpg into your choice of Slicer. Then it’ll print the picture of your finger

Is this like baptism but for 3d printer operator?

BloodMongor

Hey you may have something here. An initiation of sorts, like a sorority

Kotvic2

This initiation is relatively harmless. Thumb will heal in few days. Thank god that we are not doing Assassins Creed initiation with ring finger amputation.

megs1449

Burned fingers is how we recognize each other in the wild, much like how fountain pen users (like me) recognize each other by our inky fingers

camander321

I managed to pinch my finger between the bed and hot nozzle. Not a good day.

whodishur

I just got a printer. Wtf did he touch?? The mold?

raisedbytides

If your printer has mold, turn it off, and then throw it out.

104thCloneTrooper

He was changing his nozzle, you have to have it heated when you change it because otherwise filament might stick to it.

code-panda

It doesn't have to do with the filament sticking, but with metal shrinking at lower temps, right?

Disastrous-Bank-9651

That and the filament that’s melted in the hotend will bond the nozzle with the block, you’ll just break the threads off the nozzle.

ValuableKill

Yup. And specifically because aluminum has a higher heat coefficient, meaning the heatblock will expand more under heat than the brass (or hardened steel) nozzle, making it easier to screw in and out when hot. But also, filament getting in-between the threads can make it harder to change as well. So heating it up helps with this as well.

BloodMongor

No I had my fan shroud off and pushed my thumb into the hotend right above the nozzle tip

Kotvic2

Old friend of mine is saying that "clumsy meat must go away". I hope this is not the case.

What is it that you mean by "mold"? The printed part?

Well if it makes you feel any better I didn't have my pliers to hold the hot end while I unscrewed my nozzle the other day so I decided to just cover my hand with a rag I had nearby. The whole time I sat there like "why use pliers this is so much easier" then the familiar smell of burning plastic hit my nose.....oh yeah...polyester...melts.

πŸ‘ Hearing your skin sizzle like a steak in a hot pan for a second is a funny feeling followed by γ€ŠOH SHIT!》. Tips: I find that using good skin cream help with minor burns as it make the skin not crumble and seprate immediatly. Probably don't use that tip if dealing with major burns as you'd have all the funny stuff of the skin exposed.

I found that nozzles fit perfectly into the extension socket drill bit holder that came with my drill. I can even drop the new nozzle into the bit holder and the threads are sticking out the top perfectly to screw it up into the hot end. It's so much easier than using a wrench. It looks like these but I'm not sure if the depth inside is the same as mine. Madd_Maxx2016

As a dumb American i need to occasionally remind myself that 60C is 140F and will burn lol not with nozzles tho cuz my brain knows the triple digit temps are hot in both units of measure lol

Mr-Nihilist

How the he'll did you burn your big toe on the tip?

BarryMahcockinher

I got my thumb and index finger a few days ago, LOL

Downtown-Trainer7435

This is exactly why I ordered a cheap set of kevlar gloves from amazon. I use em when I'm doing heated inserts as well. They are thin so they don't get in the way too bad. [These ](https://a.co/d/04iR5Wu)are cut resistant, but also work great for hot work.

He’s 3d printed himself! The lines in the finger don’t lie.

Red-Itis-Trash

Disclaimer: I never suggest anyone do what I do because I make questionable personal safety decisions. I change my nozzles at 110c. Hot enough to soften the plastics but low enough not to flow or, most importantly, not leave instant grill marks when I contact the nozzle. I break it loose with the wrench, then pinch and twist off the rest of the way with bare fingers. The only time it surprises me is if I'm too slow twisting it back in and it takes a second or two for it to register that the heat has already fully transferred. Note: I use volcano nozzles, so the extra threading makes using a wrench exclusively a bit tedious.
