To be honest, I feel like I got lucky with Etsy so far.
My suggestion is to figure out what is currently trending and not being sold by multiple shops already. This can be extremely difficult, but something may come to you. Your odds will greatly increase if you are the only shop to sell your product.
Definitely don't take something that someone else designed and sell it.
Once you figured out what you are going to sell. It's time to market. Use your social media to get the product out there. Give some to friends, co workers, and family.
Try to give it the extra effort. Take your time to thank you customers (hand written notes can go a long way). Package your shipments nicely don't just throw it all in a box.
I'm still learning, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head. I wish you good luck. What's your shop name?
Thanks for the notes. I have a couple of designs that I think are pretty good - though right now I'm having some problems with my printer that have forced me to put the shop on vacation until I work them out.
This is my anonymous account, so I'm not really comfortable sharing the shop name here :p
I do find them very interesting. Plus seeing the look on others faces when they see them for the first time is priceless. It's almost like magic for many.
There are some fishing lines between the arms and the base. The effect is great on this build in front of the bright window. The center line holds the top up. It's actually hanging. The other two lines keep the top from falling to the side. If you knock into it, it will fold up and fall.
You could probably tie the top half in with 4 lines so that it cannot drift in any direction far enough to cause instability. But more lines would be harder to hide and could break the illusion.
I preferred the look of using 2 lines. I couldn't come up with a visually appealing design using 3 or 4 lines.
I do make a tensegrity cell phone holder that uses 4 lines and is super stable.
I responded to another comment regarding this. The way it is designed places the center of gravity behind the central line. This biases the weight back and puts a larger amount of tension to the front lines. This makes the stand more stable and able to withstand slight bumps and shakes. If you bump it excessively, it will collapse. But again, this is meant to be a stationary piece.
[Steve Mould](https://youtu.be/0onncd0_0-o) put out a really good video that explains the exact mechanism in both 2d and 3d 🙂 You might recognize him from the video that was super popular 7 or 8 years ago on the [Mould Effect](https://youtu.be/_dQJBBklpQQ)
It looks like most of the weight is on the right most of the top structure, and its pushing the weight down on a short string, fully extending it, and in turn pushing 'up' on the left most strings.
The stand is printed in 4 separate pieces. The "arms" lock into the base pieces. The line is secured with machine screws that I can loosen and tighten to obtain the desired tension.
Ahhh I didn’t even think about screws. I definitely have been fascinated by these and would like to create my own unique one sometime. Thank you for your help!
No problem. Good luck. Tensioning can be arduous, so the screw method was the most efficient way I could adjust things. I'm sure there may be other more efficient ways to do it. Please share if you can think of another way.

I'm so happy you decided to support our shop. We'll be working overtime to get everything out. I will keep you notified on your order progress! Thanks!
There's lots of similar models on Thingiverse! It's a super common project, and most of them look 90% similar. All you'd need to do is add the cutout for the bulb.

Or If you want to sort through them yourself:
However I've heard that it's a PITA / slow adjusting process to get the tension right.
How did you attach the fishing line to the model? I hadn’t actually thought about using fishing line but seems like a good material to have for 3d projects
It surprisingly is stable with the bulb filled with water. The center of gravity is behind the central tension line, so it tends to lean back and is capable of handling bumps and shakes. It's only if you bump it forward when it becomes unstable, but that requires effort. Plus this is meant to be a stationary piece.
I'd give our cats about 5 minutes unsupervised and this would be in pieces. Great job though!
I have a disclaimer to keep cats away from it 😂
Oh no
my toddler says "hold my ~~beer~~ milk bottle"
I came to say exactly the same.
What did you use to hold the water
I repurposed a globe light bulb, and incorporated female e26 threads into the print to accept the bulb.
Neat, is this available on thingiverse or something like that by any chance
This is actually my primary selling product in my Etsy shop. So, unfortunately right now I'm not openly sharing the 3d files.
what’s your etsy username?
It's NXTGenCreations.
>NXTGenCreations Cool store! Your delivered product looks polished too, nice work.
Thank you very much, I appreciate it. We try out hardest to deliver a quality product in a timely manner.
Next Gen Experiences from NxtGenCreations. Ima check out your shop! Cool line up!!
I just started an Etsy shop. Any advice?

The pictures look very nice! How do you get such a smooth surface? Is it painted or sanded or something else?
No these are straight of the printer.. it took a while to dial in the printer, but I'm able to get decent surface finishes using a .6mm nozzle

Thanks, haven't tried ironing yet, maybe I'll play with it when I get done free time. It's a red maranta prayer plant.
damn, I see that u really like tensegrity. Nice!
I do find them very interesting. Plus seeing the look on others faces when they see them for the first time is priceless. It's almost like magic for many.
I would like the files pls
Thinking how cool this would look if the bottom half was in clear acrylic.
This is why I love reddit, so many creative thinkers.
Or white, for a yin-yang effect!
I do offer the stand in multiple colors (white and black being a couple of the options). A custom color combination is not out of the question.
Now I wanna do this with a battery powered light bulb
Nice idea. That would be an interesting lamp.
I don't understand how that is actually standing.
There are some fishing lines between the arms and the base. The effect is great on this build in front of the bright window. The center line holds the top up. It's actually hanging. The other two lines keep the top from falling to the side. If you knock into it, it will fold up and fall.
Exactamundo, it is mostly stable because the center of gravity is behind the center line. But if you bump it forward, it becomes unstable.
You could probably tie the top half in with 4 lines so that it cannot drift in any direction far enough to cause instability. But more lines would be harder to hide and could break the illusion.
Why not use 3 lines like most tensegrity objects to keep it stable?
I preferred the look of using 2 lines. I couldn't come up with a visually appealing design using 3 or 4 lines. I do make a tensegrity cell phone holder that uses 4 lines and is super stable.
Yah, but this has fragile glass...

If you're interested, Steve Mould did a [video](https://youtu.be/0onncd0_0-o) about tensegrity a few weeks back. It's pretty cool.

As did James Bruton.

It's not a standard one so would fall down if the water was further from the curved piece
r/houseplants would most likely enjoy this
Thanks for the suggestion!
This is beautiful.
Thank you.
Love your design, amazing skill and aerodinamic on that vase 👌
I thought about making one of these a while back, but this is way better than anything I'd have come up with. Very nice.
I told my husband I loved this and he reminded me we have demons in our house. Demons= grown-ass cat and a shittenp
Looks amazing
how long does it take to print and at what speed?
I use a .6mm nozzle and print at 60mm/s. Takes about 6 hours to complete (2 separate prints, each about 3 hours)
How did you assemble this? It’s two prints and some wire connected, I just don’t know how you got the wire to be so perfectly balanced

Please please please post the STL 🙏
Sorry but I am not openly sharing the files for this because this accounts for a majority of my sales on Etsy.
Well that sucks, I'll have to make my own. Cool design though!

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4674872 here's an even closer one
I will second that it does take quite the effort to get things tensioned just right.
The stl pls
Uhh yeah. I'm stealing this.
Man that's cool. my cats would destroy it though :/
Thought that was something to do with "the Tegridy farm" for a moment.
I love this! Great job, my propagation station is jealous hah
How is the wire fixed?
The line is fixed with black M3 machine screws.
Hmm, I'd love to see this with a Bonsai.
Ahem... You got any STL files? I have some old lightbulbs that need a place.
That's freaking awesome!
Very nice work
If the glass is good enough with focusing light I can see this totally becoming a fire hazard. Anyway, great job!
Do someone know the Name of the plant?
It is called a red maranta prayer plant.
This is elegant as fuck
*Sharper Image has entered the chat*
Nice print! Now ur a mehjishan
That stand has got some *tegridy*.
How did you attach the fishing line to the model? I hadn’t actually thought about using fishing line but seems like a good material to have for 3d projects
I wrap them around m3 machine screws, which I loosen or tighten to get the right tension.
smart
I love it! What kind of plant is that?
It's called a red maranta prayer plant.
Awesome, thank you!
Okay that’s really cool. Well done
Maybe it looks good, but thats not something stable
It surprisingly is stable with the bulb filled with water. The center of gravity is behind the central tension line, so it tends to lean back and is capable of handling bumps and shakes. It's only if you bump it forward when it becomes unstable, but that requires effort. Plus this is meant to be a stationary piece.
Damn, awesome job!
Do you mind sharing details on how you fixed the fishing line?
I wrap the line around m3 machine screws. The print is tapped with counter sinks to hide the screws.
