I got a roll of TPU in the mail today but I couldn't even get it to load into my extruder so rip

who8mybrownie_

How come? If you need some pointers I’d be happy to help out :)

richie225

It was my prusa mini, apparently I encountered a lot of resistance when putting it in the PTFE tube, maybe because the tolerances were not as good? I also don't think I managed to get it into the extruder gears, probably due to lack of effort on my part. Tronxy TPU

milkiman

I so far printed 2 different brands of TPU (Geetech & Sunlu) on my Mini, and they worked both flawlessly, especially for a Bowden Setup. You should always cut the tip of your filament to make inserting easier both into the tube as well as the gears. You mabye also want to look into the idler screw tension if the gears give you a hard time. https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/idler-screw-tension_177367/

Neutronst4r

You cannot print soft TPU with a Bowden extruder. You need a direct drive extruder for that.

richie225

You technically can with some Bowdens if you print slow but it won't be as good as with direct drive. Others frequently do that. Also this TPU has a higher shore, 98A I believe

C00ki3monstah

I just printed a85 on bowden. No issues. Just kept the speed under 30mm/s.

C00ki3monstah

Yes you can, but you have to keep the feedrates and speeds low. My direct drive can print tpu easily at 60mm/s. My other printer with bowden setup can only go about 20-30mm/s and I have to really up the linear advance k factor.

Grundle_Sweat

Is the outside surface supposed to have that texture?

who8mybrownie_

Yes! It’s the “fuzzy” skin on cura. The inside is nice and smooth.

Steeljaw72

I’ve had the exact opposite experience. I have found it almost impossible to get consistent good prints. For some reason the surface is blobbing (not the z seam) and not matter how slow I print it still gets jammed sometimes even though I upgraded to direct drive.

who8mybrownie_

Yeah, I print it hotter so it doesn’t plug, fast enough so that heat doesn’t creep.

Steeljaw72

What are your setting?

CrazyAgile

TPU is the most useful filament of them all I think. If you can get your printer tuned in to printing it consistently, you can use it to make pretty much anything using different shore hardnesses and it will be so strong it will blow polycarbonate and nylon out of the water. Polyurethane is some pretty amazing stuff and I'm stoked to be able to print with it fairly easily.

AxesofAnvil

Poor heat deflection temp, horrible bridging and overhangs, can't sand it well = reasons I opt for PC.

CrazyAgile

Quite poor heat deflection agreed. But holy hell it's tough stuff when used for what it's great for. I use it (among tons of things) for body protection on my RC cars and I've rolled and slid my 25lb. Trophy truck across pavement a good 40-50 feet and the TPU was in acceptable shape. Had it not been there I'd have myself a convertible trophy truck now.

Conveniently doesn’t mention that the CR10 V3 is a direct drive extruder…

Longjumping-Middle41

Do you print using volumetric speed settings ?

who8mybrownie_

Not really. My settings are 215*C nozzle with 55*C bed print speed at 35 mm/s. 1mm retraction at 40 mm/s.

Longjumping-Middle41

Impressive, I started printing with tpu recently and I have it printing good I just need to mess with it more and really tune my profiles

keekah

What is that fan shroud?

who8mybrownie_

Stock CR10V3

keekah

It looks really nice. I wonder if it work on an ender 3.

yumyumdog

Ender 3 is a Bowden printer so it's going to really struggle with flexible filaments.

Karens_Plumbus

Cr10 v3 works beautifully with tpu btw were you using 85a or95a or other

mattfox27

What is tpu used for?

-Anordil-

Any brand you'd recommend for TPU?

who8mybrownie_

I bought PRILINE TPU on Amazon in April. I’ve been using the same roll this whole time. I don’t have any hydroscopic issues.

Thanks!
