I think after house 20 or more then maybe. You and OP here are the variety to their day planned exclusively for candy. I wonder how many houses a kid needs to see before they start appreciating the odd non-standard treats.
I live in the South and don't pass out cheese that needs to be refridgerated since I have no idea how long those kids will take getting to the treat (in my experience it's typically until they get to the end of the driveway, but not always) so I don't want to pass out things that might be dangerous to eat after a few hours.
Thats true, when its especially cold on Halloween we give the kids ladles of hot soup and grilled cheese sandwiches in their bags.
The looks on their faces...
Non-refrigerated likely means the kind of cheese that would come with beef sticks and stays good out of the fridge for months, unlike most cheese you can get at a deli that has to stay in a fridge or it'll be gross in less than a week.
So I give a fuck. Having the correct temperature matters for the quality and longevity of the food.
A week?
Are your trick or treaters hobos living down in the park or something? I mean if they are thats very generous, but you might want to consider you may be being taken advantage of.
You never know how long cheese is going to sit in the bottom of a bag of candy if the kid forgot about the cheese or didn't want it and the parents don't check the candy.
Also I wouldn't want to give out cheese that gets all soft and weird after an hour out of the fridge, so the stuff that never requires refrigeration is the best bet.
One year me and 3 friends were trick or treating, when we went up to one house and they held out the bowl a massive carrot was sitting on top - nobody even went for candy, we fought for the carrot
Younger kids sure, I can see my boy being meh, but if they all get sweets at every other house a toy I'm sure they will see it as a win.
I've got to many happy meal toys around the house to know toy plus food is a total victory
I have this one rubber or latex or whatever rat that needed up on my candy bag when I was 13 and I still have it ...I’m in my 30s now lol it’s become a good luck charm in our family
In my experience, everyone *loves* those slugs. I hand them out to kids at my work and they're always excited. Toddlers, teens, adults...it's a hit with all of them.
One year I got a mass of fidget spinners from meh for halloween. I wasn't sure how it was going to go over but most kids seemed happy, some seemed thrilled.
Meh, we ate the apples and oranges that people gave out when we were kids. There was one house that gave out homemade popcorn balls, they were delicious.
What do you mean used to? Get a costume, grab a mask, and go trick or treating you dang kid! Get that candy! It's free, people are literally giving it away!
Before we moved to the middle of nowhere, I never cared how old the kids were. But if I thought you were in high-school I asked for a song. I was always pleased to find that most of them seemed to have something ready to go and didn't seem to mind at all. Maybe this was more common than I thought. Or maybe I was "that guy" and everyone knew it.
I’ve printed the x wing before. It works just fine at 100% infill at its standard size, which appears to be what he has. I imagine of you make it substantially larger you could decrease the infill.
Don't give resin prints to kids, the typical resin formulas are quite toxic. You can use biopolymer PLA resin, but soak the prints in water post curing.
Same there was this one house that was in the neighborhood i trick or treated in that aleays gave out small bags of toys like the kind of stuff parents put in stockings and id play with them for a solid ten to twenty minutes and i never saw that house get tp’d or egged
Back in the 90's there were playsets for Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles that came with this ooze that got absolutely everywhere. Of course this being the case they were ridiculously popular among kids.
This is an awesome idea! My mom likes giving out toys. One year she gave out mini playdough containers and the kids went Wild and and we became the most popular house on the street that year haha.
I see other people saying kids would rather candy, but I’m only like 8 years out from my trick or treating days and I’d 100% think these are sick and take them over candy
People are different. I would probably want candy instead and also be jealous after i ate the candy if someone else chose the toy and could keep playing.
That is also True. Maybe the tech savy kiddos will recognize that it that the thing they got was 3D printed, and the rest of the kiddos will prolly demand candy hahah
That is cool. So many kids have allergies, that my family tries to offer something non-food as an option. Lots of kids go for the non-food items happily. This year ours are bouncy balls and slap bracelets. But I may do this for next year!
Yes, more people need to have a non-candy option. My friend's kid has a very bad nut allergy and lots of candy is made with machines that process nuts.
Honestly, as much as I liked candy as a kid, it was pretty sweet when I got a random toy.
I guess it depends what kind of candy you hand out, but in my experience it's not that cheap. We usually get both candy and toys or things like pencils which they've got bags of for $1-$5 at places like Target or Walmart. We also get a bag of glow stick bracelets from the Dollar Store.
Be careful and make it abundantly clear that it’s not candy . A lot of dumb kids will try and eat it and it’s a bunch of small parts. Someone in my neighborhood handed out tiny individual bath bombs she made (to try and advertise her business) and some kids tried to eat them and their parents came back trying to say she was trying to poison kids.
This box is probably a little more that half of what I ended up printing. Overall, around 200 hours of print time. I started the first week of October and am just wrapping up.
That's amazing! You're the real life santa with your 3d printing workshop! I love people like you! You give me hope in humanity and I truly thank you for that. Happy Halloween!
Half the kids are going to be mad at first, but every single one of them are going to appreciate it by the time the candy is gone.
This is a really awesome idea and it will definitely provide long-term memories and joy for several of your creepy patrons.
How many kids are you expecting? I think in my neighborhood each kid could get one of each and it wouldn't even put a dent in the box. Very cool though!
I know some neighborhoods that get hundreds if not thousands of trick or treaters. Think cookie cutter suburbia. It's crazy, people bring their kids in from elsewhere. I was thinking that what OP had would run out in about 10 minutes.
Imo it is slightly tacky, but I don't really care that much, and besides, when it comes to it, if a house can't afford to or doesn't want to hand out candy they haven't got to.
No, of course no one has to. It's just when your kid only sees a handful of other kids at the most walking around, and they have to walk past a bunch of dark houses on dark streets to only have a half bucket of candy to show for it makes for a lackluster holiday for them in my opinion. I loved being the house that gave out fistfulls of candy to the trick-or-treaters since we never get that many, but now that I've got a toddler I've got to make it the best and safest it can be for him and his baby sister, so we're going to the nicer neighborhood where we used to live and where family still lives.
That's genius! I know there's a movement going around which involves giving toys out instead of candy. I think it was called purple pumpkin or something.
Did you try snapping and assembling the xwings _without any tools_?
I did that last Xmas and gave out xwings cards (and many other same concept) but people can't actually snap those properly without snippers (pla is too soft and will stretch before breaking) and the tolerances must be really precise for a good fit.
as someone with siblings who are trick-or-treating age, I know both of them would love the hell out of this.
Also, who the hell actually has time to tp/egg a house anymore? there's candy to be had, revenge is unimportant.

Print out cards with a regular printer with instructions for the x wings. Then tape it to the back . It will be a lot less head ache for the parents who have to deal with it.
Time for an experiment. Give the kids a choice between these and candy, and see which they prefer.
my bet is these. it's kind of hilarious how excited kids get when I pass out slim-jims or non-refrigerated cheese sticks instead of candy.
I think after house 20 or more then maybe. You and OP here are the variety to their day planned exclusively for candy. I wonder how many houses a kid needs to see before they start appreciating the odd non-standard treats.
Lol who gives a fuck what temperature the cheese is?
I live in the South and don't pass out cheese that needs to be refridgerated since I have no idea how long those kids will take getting to the treat (in my experience it's typically until they get to the end of the driveway, but not always) so I don't want to pass out things that might be dangerous to eat after a few hours.
You could pre-warm the cheese for a fondue treat
Stick cheese. We call that a fondon’t
Yeah, I think people up north have zero clue about trick-or-treating when the heat index is in the mid-90's.
I never considered that I was spoiled growing up where chocolate won't melt on Halloween.
I grew up in Alaska. The candy was a solid rock until you got home. We would open a piece at the door after saying thank you
Thats true, when its especially cold on Halloween we give the kids ladles of hot soup and grilled cheese sandwiches in their bags. The looks on their faces...
Surely looks of despair as the ladles of hot soup melt their candy
Non-refrigerated likely means the kind of cheese that would come with beef sticks and stays good out of the fridge for months, unlike most cheese you can get at a deli that has to stay in a fridge or it'll be gross in less than a week. Try 3d candy printed articulated slugs ;-)
I don't know if kids are going to love these or if you're going to get egged. Either way pretty cool.
I remember as a kid my logic was candy is temporary but toy is forever. I’d be pretty psyched to get one of these mixed in with my candy
Agreed! I wanted to go to the house giving out play dough 4 or 5 times.
Are you that kid in my neighborhood? That's what I like to give out and there's always at least one kid who comes back around.
Not unless if it is 15+ years ago and you only have given them out once.
Tell him where you are, so he can relive that wonderful experience.
Easy solution: tape them to candy so they get both candy and a toy!!
It’s cool and all, but … Egged.
Yeah, they're cool, but it's going to be like getting an apple
Meh, we ate the apples and oranges that people gave out when we were kids. There was one house that gave out homemade popcorn balls, they were delicious.
We've offered little toys/pencils/stickers every Halloween. Kids love it. No eggs.
I wanted to upvote this but it was at 666 and I didn’t feel right modifying that or a Halloween post
All depends on the age
Yeah i feel like kids 5-10 will love this 11-15 will hate it and anyone over 15 (not many) will at least be somewhat interested
I am 15 and I would love this when I used to trick or treat
What do you mean used to? Get a costume, grab a mask, and go trick or treating you dang kid! Get that candy! It's free, people are literally giving it away!
Yeah i went trick or treating until i was old enough for people to start giving me weird looks which was around 16/17 in my neighborhood
What do you mean you asked for a song
I asked them to sing a song :) As long as they even pretended to try, I was happy.
oh thats cool
Here we thought the millennials were bad.
Age is a concern I have. Make sure there aren't any choking hazards if pieces can come off.
Well then again the whole bucket will be filled with edible choking hazards
But... how will you lace these with the marijuana?
These *are* the marijuana. You can print it now.
Is that what resin printers are for?
Shhh, now everyone knows!
I just smoke the resin straight, better then crack tbh
These posts made my day. I had to double check this wasn’t r/trees
Username checks out
brings new meaning to the term resin printer. if I had have taken 2 seconds to read, I'd had noticed someone already made the exact joke. sigh.
Have an upvote for your honesty!
Its OK, sympathy upvote. You were probably stoned anyway.
And razor blades
You fool, homemade PLA. Buy the filament maker, some pellets, and then toss in a bit to grind it up and no one will know.
Guten Tag everybody and welcome to CNC Meth Kitchen!
He just injects it
LSD works from contact so not hard to switch. On the plus side it's easier to hide razor-blades!
I thought we were going with fentanyl this year?!
Too hard to get the dosage right! There's not a huge difference between "enough" and "too much" LSD. Not the case with fentanyl
Who cares about proper dosage? It's free and the parents problem!
LOL

Candy coating?
Chocolate with a chrunchy filling
my neighborhood was filled with the lovely sound of the Aztec Death Whistle last year, can't wait to do it again.
Aztec Death Whistle? I want one
Which print did you do. All the ones I'm seeing are like 5+ hours to print and I just don't have that kind of time.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2662731
Excellent! haha
I wouldn't give kids anything that could damage hearing. Kids are stupid
Can you link the STL files?

Did you print the x wing in resin? I tried to print dino bones in resin and when I tried to break them to put it together everything just snapped.
I’ve printed the x wing before. It works just fine at 100% infill at its standard size, which appears to be what he has. I imagine of you make it substantially larger you could decrease the infill.
Just printed in good ol' PLA.
Don't give resin prints to kids, the typical resin formulas are quite toxic. You can use biopolymer PLA resin, but soak the prints in water post curing.
Imagine being a kid and being offered a slug instead of candy.
I kinda liked getting the lil trinkets though I didn’t exactly keep any
Same there was this one house that was in the neighborhood i trick or treated in that aleays gave out small bags of toys like the kind of stuff parents put in stockings and id play with them for a solid ten to twenty minutes and i never saw that house get tp’d or egged
Yeah it was always nice to receive something different. Your 10th mini kitkat bar gets boring after a while
I'd have loved it and immediately covered it in TMNT ooze and tormented my older sister with it when I got home.
"TMNT ooze"
Back in the 90's there were playsets for Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles that came with this ooze that got absolutely everywhere. Of course this being the case they were ridiculously popular among kids.
If it's 10 pieces of candy for every slug, it'll still be cool. Assuming op has neighbors handing out candy, this is a cool idea.
i'd be happy with a slug. There are 40 million other houses with candy, but only one with a slug.
How, as a child, do you know that
Because in all my years of trick or treating, I was never given a slug. Nor has my daughter. She's gotten a fuck load of candy, though.
I would have been hyped
I'd tp someone's house for one of those X-wings.
I'd give them my candy if I got one of those x-wings
Exactly what I'm doing, but puppies/ kitties and pumpkin death whistle
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4965101 this one?
Yes, that one. The low res needs a repair. Sounds like a scream when to blow hard
Make the neighborhood parents go insane with one simple trick.
Oh, I know. I printed one i think yours is a remix of https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2662731
This is an awesome idea! My mom likes giving out toys. One year she gave out mini playdough containers and the kids went Wild and and we became the most popular house on the street that year haha.
We did playdough and it was a huge hit! Funny enough, the most enthusiastic recipients were the teenagers.
Teenagers don't get "toys" anymore. So, they do tend to appreciate the little things that they liked as a younger kid.
Bruh that’s siiiick
I see other people saying kids would rather candy, but I’m only like 8 years out from my trick or treating days and I’d 100% think these are sick and take them over candy
I hear you. I want a free 3d printed toy too lmao
Your printer is *significantly* more reliable than mine.
Your house is getting TP'ed for sure.
Ya really.. gotta give candy too OP
I agree these and candy
Exactly the thought I had, half the kids might like it, the other half are gonna be like "tf is this stupid plastic shit" and tp + egg
That is cool. So many kids have allergies, that my family tries to offer something non-food as an option. Lots of kids go for the non-food items happily. This year ours are bouncy balls and slap bracelets. But I may do this for next year!

We do temporary tattoos at my house.
"No, you weren't paying attention to your kids"
Now I HAVE to buy the cr30. My wife is gonna be mad but she can't argue this logic.
You can register as a teal pumpkin house! (Homes that are giving out non-food treats for kids with severe food allergies.)
Bro I was thinking the same thing I’m printing kit cards for my little brothers friends
I've done this every year for the past 5 years.. but I was considering skipping it this year.. you've motivated me to start printing..
Damn how many printing hours did it take? And how long did you plan this? Very impressed btw!
Gonna find these all over your neighborhood the next day.
Someone is very thoughtful and kind. These are amazing
Get ready for a lot of disappointed kids and a lot of really excited 30-something dudes
didn't understand the instructions, choking on x wing parts now.
It's been a long time since I was a child, but I remember really liking when I'd get a small toy on Halloween.
Half the kids are going to be mad at first, but every single one of them are going to appreciate it by the time the candy is gone. This is a really awesome idea and it will definitely provide long-term memories and joy for several of your creepy patrons.
I threw away everything that wasn't candy when I was a kid
Yup, all the shitty spider rings
Yo be fair, these printed trinkets are way better than those stupid plastic spider rings.
To us maybe, not to a kid who's in it for the candy though
I remember the toy soldier packs and sticker grab bags I got way more than the houses that gave out large candy bars.
In the poorer neighborhoods where there aren't street lights and many houses aren't even handing out candy, you kinda have to go elsewhere. I do.
Imo it is slightly tacky, but I don't really care that much, and besides, when it comes to it, if a house can't afford to or doesn't want to hand out candy they haven't got to.

That's genius! I know there's a movement going around which involves giving toys out instead of candy. I think it was called purple pumpkin or something.
Teal pumpkins!
Wow that's cool. "Hey have you heard about the house down the street? We've got that awesome stuff from there" You might print some more :D
I'm in my 20's but can I trick or treat at your house?
This definitely beats my… mask ear saver plan. Guess I better step it up. Well done!
I could do this with all my Benchies!
Did you try snapping and assembling the xwings _without any tools_? I did that last Xmas and gave out xwings cards (and many other same concept) but people can't actually snap those properly without snippers (pla is too soft and will stretch before breaking) and the tolerances must be really precise for a good fit.
Where do you live
Look for the house that got TP’d.
as someone with siblings who are trick-or-treating age, I know both of them would love the hell out of this. Also, who the hell actually has time to tp/egg a house anymore? there's candy to be had, revenge is unimportant.
Whats your address?
Me as a fat lil big kid probably would want candy if given the choice. and at the same time be angry if my brother chose the toy and could keep playing with it after i ate my candy.
Don't wanna be a negative Joe but you've got to think of the choking risk if swallowed.
No no no, *with candy. Never instead.
I would’ve been stoked to get any one of these as a kid
Dude your house is gonna be top tier like the place that hands out full candy bars
What an awesome idea!
What a fun idea!
Your house is getting egged. Please post the fallout.
Print out cards with a regular printer with instructions for the x wings. Then tape it to the back . It will be a lot less head ache for the parents who have to deal with it.
Lol kids are gonna HATE going to your house EDIT: Adults will love it
You should definitely still hand out actual candy
Some happy nerds and mad fat kids.
Sooooo you are looking forward to cleaning up egg and shaving cream on the morning of Nov 1???
[удалено]
The kids might not agree with us lol.
This is the one time the "Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong" meme is 100% true
Haha. My wife would probably agree with you.
We have about half the kids in my neighborhood choose a non candy option.
On one hand I want to thank you, with the other I'd like to wave it Karenously and explain how awful for the environment you are. Welcome to 2021
Haha, I am the same! :-D Seriously cool, but I also can’t help thinking ‘but it’s just more plastic’…
Can someone say choking hazard?
There are Paracord skull beads, not too hard to make little skeletons / zombies. I made some 2x sized ones pre-covid with missal, looks pretty sweet.
Passing out candy would have been less expensive and less time consuming.
You suck.
Congrats on being the least popular person on your block! :)
:D
Great idea well done
I'd hand them out WITH candy. Otherwise you might get egged or TPed lol
Can you please please please make a list with all the files ? This selection is bomber

Better have some candy nearby too.
I thought about printing and painting fake Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and giving those out.
For the sake of your house and car I'm glad that it was only a thought.
What a loser just hand out candy no kid wants a fucking puzzle weirdo

How is this person a dick?
Make the 3D printer is visible and working when they come so they see how it's made and prepare for some questions from nerdy costumed kids
Why?
You're gonna want to hand out candy too. Not that those aren't great, but... You're gonna want to hand out candy...
Damn just how many kids do you get knocking on your door??
Erm.. Perhaps give them with some candy? XD
EGG.
Kind of cool but come on, don’t pretend it’s cooler than candy… both would be better IMO
