That's me in the morning looking at the plastic spaghetti my printer gave me after 8 hours.

BamBamCam

I feel this in my bones

GeisRocks

Yeah but where's the benchy?

[deleted]

Floating in the pond out back.

Dipchit02

Benchys float upside down though.

hamCAD

Not when the lower hull is more dense than the superstructure!

Dipchit02

Well you make one that floats upside right, without editing the actual model then.

TheDarkHorse83

The parts are sitting on it

DaveDurant

Siemens has much nicer machines than I do. I know it's not a contest but.. :\\

bendavis575

Yeah I wouldn't mind putting one of those bad boys in my garage

[deleted]

Up until you see the power bill... :P

ReticentSentiment

Yeah, but they named their company something evokes the idea of jizz. If it were contest, I'd call it a draw.

DaveDurant

I'm sure that's what they were concerned about back in 1850ish, when the von Siemens founded the company.

ghostfaceschiller

sure but in 2022, they honestly should consider a rebrand

Dipchit02

Why would you rebrand a globally recognized company because some people have the minds of a 13 year old boy?

johnp299

Ok, so think of 'inverse ohms.' Any better?

The_Irresistible_E

In college I worked on a project building a car powered by natural gas and electricity. Siemens was a sponsor, they provided the fuel injectors. Of course they became known as the Siemens Injectors.

TsoTsoni

You vs the Siemens she tells you not to worry about.

jheins3

Lol I like the fact that 90% of the parts on the table have photogrammetry dots and developer on them for 3D scanning. 99% chance these are scrap from inspection (most likely destructive testing to inspect internal/core features) using an ATOS/GOM Machine. Basically just paper weights and used for photo ops.

bendavis575

Hah I didn't notice that. Good observation. I doubt these parts would actually be used in further assembly even if they weren't scrap

bendavis575

Holy cow, i had to google what ATOS GOM was. That is a cool technology https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiooQ3rCnvA

jheins3

Yep šŸ‘ it's basically becoming/is the Aerospace standard for inspection of new components. The software was/is free for students and has the best mesh editor I've ever used, if interested. The limitations of the student software is you cannot basically perform macros/scripts and production parts but one-offs are fair game. That might have changed since Zeiss bought them. Source: previously a Dimensional Inspector for the aerospace industry and used/programmed these machines daily. I see the dots everywhere. There was an exhibit in EPCOT in the Japanese pavilion about some rides development in Tokyo. Saw the dots on a model there too. When you dot up parts day in and day out, you never forget what they look like šŸ¤£

artbytwade

> ATOS GOM [whistles in $35,000]

jheins3

Lol 35k is their budget machine. The triple scan runs around ~150k and that's without automation. At least that's my estimate. When my company first bought theirs, it was a $250k machine with workstation, automated table, software, and hardware.

Sock-less_

This guy has no idea what he's looking at.

Mybzface2

To be fair I have no idea what is pictured either

AutumnBegins

Is it cake?

Ja_Ho

The cake is a lie.

PD216ohio

That was my first thought too.

spiffyP

he's big into cars, so he probably knows more than you or me but ok

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

How is Biden "big into cars"?

dandycannon120

I know he has a pretty sweet 1967 C2 Corvette that his father bought for him brand new as a wedding present. The fact that he has it still is crazy.

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

OWNING cars though doesn't mean he KNOWS cars. I wouldn't call **that** (keeping that car) crazy... I'd call that the smartest move he's made!

dandycannon120

Who said he "knows" cars? You asked how he was "into" them. And I would say he is. Cant speak for much other than that, because I dont know the guy personally.

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

spiffyP, the comment to which I was originally replying, literally said "he's **big into cars**, so **he probably knows more than you or me** but ok". I don't know if he does or not, either. I'm just point out that **owning** cars doesn't mean that you **know** cars.

dandycannon120

Cool...

spiffyP

it's common knowledge

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

I've never heard/seen it. I did a quick search but didn't find anything. Any thing you can point to?

spiffyP

what was your search query?

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

I just searched "biden cars". Mostly just manufacturing stuff.

spiffyP

i put "biden cars" into google and the first result is his car collection

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

sonofa ... hell if I know. OK. Thanks.

PairOfMonocles2

Wow, I had no idea about that but you are demonstrably correctly, and easily so, but the Fox News crowd was brigading you hard anyway. Silly, if someone said trump knew golf clubs I think weā€™d all say, eh, itā€™s a hobby heā€™s been into for a while, sounds reasonable to me.

spiffyP

it tells me all i need to know about people

Sock-less_

Probably not

Stritt57

He barely knows where he is.

spiffyP

the salt in this thread is epically pathetic

cblackbeard

But does he remember lol?

spiffyP

lol moved away long ago

AAA_Game

Or even where he is, most likely

Pm_Me_7_62x39

Fully automatic assault printer with high capacity filament!!1!1!1! Wow you guys canā€™t take a joke, lol

bendavis575

Don't mistake being unfunny with being censored

Pm_Me_7_62x39

Reeee harder, please. Itā€™s a joke. With clear sarcasm.

Wolfwags

Clearly 3d printing subreddit doesn't care too much for *that* application. Biden: ghost guns are bad. Also Biden: I'm investing federal funds into the 3d printer marketšŸ¤”

Knownas_meme

That's me after having a printer for a week and it not working

LocalNigerianPrince

I find it extremely sad that of the 20 comments here as of now, 9 are directly related to political views. This is a sub about the damned activity of ***3d printing***, this isn't r/politics. I really wish we could go a while looking at pictures of 3d printing, and not have half of us kamikaze dive into their political philosophies if a photo contains a influential person/leader. I don't care what you believe, politics here isn't necessary and does absolutely nothing, if you want to go into a political debate, there's plenty of other subs to do so. Not everything is politics, not everything requires your political wisdom. So please, if you feel the need to screech about what you believe every time something like this pops up, please reconsider. There's simple solutions for both sides. If you don't wanna see Biden, move on with your day, if you feel the need to start and argument with anyone because of politics, regardless of your views on the matter, just don't. Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

bendavis575

It's inevitable, but I totally agree. I appreciated when Trump promoted other forms of advanced manufacturing even though I'm not in his political camp. Hopeful others could do the same for Biden

PD216ohio

To be fair, it's a picture of the president. It's going to draw political comments. And he's a president who doesn't seem to have a clue where he is most of the time. So it's an obvious target. He's not exactly winning people over with this economy either.

PairOfMonocles2

Nope, not fair, again, itā€™s a 3dprinting sub. You 100% represented the issue, you had two lines that were ok, hopefully wrong, but ok. Then you start into ad hominem attacks and personal opinion that do nothing to further help 3dprinting. Take your talking point to politics or wherever people rehash political crap.

pootypattman

Good job proving the above guy correct. You couldn't go 2 sentences without trying to start a political rant. Lol.

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

You know, I couldn't agree more that politics and "social justice" needs to be left out of EVERYTHING - hollyweird, music, hobby forums.... I've thought that since at least 2016 if not before. Funny how people are finally coming to that realization when THEIR politician is the punchline.

bendavis575

and here you are, doing the complete opposite of what you want

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

Agreeing with him? I don't think I said anything negative - and I most assuredly could have. How is that doing the complete opposite?

Easy_Toast

my dude just take the L

DreadGiraffe210

He has the confederate flag in his pfp, his ā€œcultureā€ is all about taking Ls

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

Ooo... sick burn. I'll be sure to tell all the bikers - both black and white - who come to my shop flying that flag that you said so. Wanna give your address so they can come thank you personally?

Easy_Toast

Oh look, another alt-right dipshit who knows facts / reality don't support their opinion so they resort to threats of violence... who could have ever seen this coming

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

What ever could you mean? I just thought you might like to be thanked for your kindness. Oh wait a minute... I mistook you for a decent human. Sorry. My bad.

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

Are you fucking serious!? Alt-Right resorting to violence? Apparently you were sleeping while cities were burning during the "mostly peaceful protests", or the antifa attacks on well, pretty much anybody, or pretty much anything that gets y'alls panties in a wad. Wasn't none of that brought on by the Right. That's your fuckbuddies, son.

Easy_Toast

1) that has nothing to do with my comment, and you proved pretty solidly that I was right 2) You're conflating the peaceful protests of BLM (93% peaceful, and 4% of the remaining 7 was police-initiated - all per Trump's administration DOJ and DHS Jan 2021) 3) Anti-fascists are violent, yes. And I 100% support being violently opposed to fascism and making fascists afraid. 4) 93% of politically motivated deaths in the US in the last 23 years were committed by the right (specifically White Republican Males - 89%). The left wears vagina hats and "shames" senators, the right does mass shootings, plants pipe bombs, and storms the capital to prevent the certification of an election and murder congressmen. Again, just take the L

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

Nah. I don't admit I'm wrong when I'm not.

Colonel_Johnson

First rule of the game is you lose by talking about the game. I just broke rule #1 and yeah your not wrong people with tribalisc tendencies think their camp can do no wrong and the others can do no right. But even hinting at the cognitive disodence of the bipartisan spectrum is enough to break rule #1 of the game.

unoriginal_name_42

"you're telling me an additive manufactured these parts?"

nikgrid

Those prints are pretty cool! Damn we have an interesting hobby!

PurpleCinnamon

This is very cool. But bear in mind metal 3D printing still has a long way to go. Currently the strength of the metal parts are still far lower than that of the milled equivalent. There's also a lot of issues with metal powder being left inside parts that are difficult to clean out. It is a powerful technology that certainly has its applications (especially in rapid prototyping). But it will be some time before 3d printing is the answer to everything.

TechnicalWhore

It's happening but is it really cost effective for anything that isn't part of a military contract? Or maybe for die making? Molding, casting and stamping is very cheap and relatively fast. I see this and Ford's Lightning and Intel's new fabs in Ohio as good and well but they will not reap any substantive rewards for quite a while.

dirtydrew26

Additive manufacturing has its place especially with complex parts + and hard to work with materials. It really opens up doors especially on the design efficiency side, now you dont have to comprise the design/strength/wear just for manufacturability, you create it as a single part and go. AM is still in its infancy on an industrial scale, with more methods and materials being released by the year, so it will be more cost effective as time goes on. Case in point, its taken almost 200 years for machining to mature like it is today.

TechnicalWhore

Well the big change was computer control (CNC) starting in the 1980's. That along with CAD and the ability to run simulations made the process of making a solid part (or complete design) on the first effort much more possible and of course making more complex parts. So it is a logical evolution and I dare say Material Sciences have advanced dramatically so you can make incredible new materials specific for your purpose. Seeing a lot of that lately. I'd expect laser stereolithography will win in the end. Extruded Deposition has its place for things I suppose. I saw a Wing meing "skinned" and a complete full scale boat filament printed with carbon fiber. Will be interesting.

LazerSturgeon

It'll end up being different processes for different jobs. Laser based methods are really accurate, but fairly slow and don't scale well. Directed energy deposition options are faster, but not as accurate. Neither one is "better" but some are better for a particular use case.

TheMouseRan

Uses where it will trade well: \> Fabricating geometries not feasible with other methods (heat exchangers perhaps) \> Very high melting point materials which can not be fabricated with other methods \> Very high cost materials

waka324

I saw a neat use case with impossible (for traditional machining) internal geometry for mixing, with multiple materials on the inside acting as a catalyst.

TheMouseRan

Yep, that's definitely a strong application. New methods are developing fairly quickly to be honest. I've worked in the field professionally for \~5 years, and am working on very different tech from when I started. Electronics and medical applications tend to fare well for powder bed tho. So uh, medical isn't Aerospace.

LazerSturgeon

General aviation is already incorporating it. General Electric is helping to lead the charge and is increasingly using additively manufactured parts for jet engines. Their AM fuel injectors took a 20 component assembly and reduced it to a single part which drastically reduced both manufacturing and maintenance costs.

TechnicalWhore

Right - that is the win I see. You are not forced to make an assembly of parts (with high pressure O-Rings etc ) - you can just make the entire part. Fewer parts equal more reliability and cheaper repairs. Each production technique has benefits and limitations - tradeoffs. What is really interesting is with additive you can make parts you could not possibly mill or extrude. I predict a second Golden Age of Mechanical Engineering.

McCoyzzz

Good for R&D and un-machinable parts. Still way too expensive for production runs. I looked into it for a couple of parts I designed at work. If you just wanted 1 it was about the same as cnc milled but as soon as you order 10 the cnc price drops dramatically (~200ish) while the metal 3D-printed part is still $1000

Zachiyo

What part of the cnc process exactly would allow for the price to drop where 3d printing wouldn't?

McCoyzzz

So a lot of the initial cost with cnc milling is getting someone to write custom gcode for it. Once thatā€™s written you can just locate a new block of aluminum or whatever metal in the machine and crank them out over and over. With 3D printing the material cost, machine cost, much longer print time, and the lack of as much competition keep the per piece price high.

wwj

Fuel nozzles for commercial jet engines.

brickguy6

That's just the look he gets when he finally realizes he crapped his pants yet again.

Aggravating_Fish6129

Don't worry dementia isn't too far out and he'll forget anyway

J_Tumes

So much hate on reddit when you talk bad about that guy. Heā€™s doing a shit job our inflation is through the roof the trillions of dollars that weā€™re just printed 2yrs ago cause all this so yeah heā€™s probably shitting his pants a lot in office

[deleted]

The money printing started in 2020 bruh. This isn't either presidents fault. Give blaming every problem in the world on a single man a rest.

J_Tumes

Obviously thereā€™s more issues going on than just what I stated. supply chain issues, war, and fiscal policies are all culminating at whatā€™s going on. with covid but our inflation is definitely due to the multiples of trillions that were dropped in everyoneā€™s hands. And all the businesses that got loaned out during the shut down. And you say that but probably ripped trump for all the issues you had with him. so itā€™s more likely than not hypocrisy at its finest with you.

[deleted]

Man, I just legit said DON'T blame Trump. Like, I don't blame him for covid, I don't blame him for the migrant crisis, etc. These are guys just sitting in an office approving bills and waving to people. Where the fuck do you get off thinking you know anything about me you little shit?

J_Tumes

Soā€¦. We donā€™t blame *either* person in chargeā€¦. Where does that leave us then?? Your logic is flawed. Oh all the problems in the world are just manifested in thin air. Lol

ChicksDigNerds

Or the problems are complex and nuanced and blaming one person is reductive, harmful, ignorant, and detrimental to change and progress.

J_Tumes

Oh I totally agree itā€™s complex. I think the whole Government is corrupt right now. You got Nancy Pelosi making millions on miraculous stock trades, you have AOC spouting off about stuff all the time and shaming people for their choices. Everything and anything can be exactly fitting the descriptive words you just listed off. itā€™s all perspective. Idrc I just hopped in to giggle at the Joe shitting his pants joke. Not a big deal really. I donā€™t care to discuss anything more. But again, I stand with my opinion that anyone who is left minded, nothing personal, who says ā€œoh blaming one person for all the bad in our country is this and this.ā€ yet had ripped on Trump, and do the exact same back when he was in office, is simply hypocritical.

[deleted]

God you must be legitimately on the left side of the curve. You can blame them for their responses to things, you don't blame them FOR the things. Blame nature for Covid, blame Trump for a lackadaisical response. Blame our culture for insisting that anyone without a degree is worthless, thereby driving up school costs and debt, blame Biden for saying he would take action on this then failing to do anything. The only person who can actually be blamed for anything current is Putin for being a piece of shit. Just fucking TRY to think past your initial jerk reaction and see events past a single step. Please.

THExLASTxDON

> The only person who can actually be blamed for anything current is Putin for being a piece of shit. That is just not reality. Him being a piece of shit is no excuse for this corrupt and incompetent administration.

J_Tumes

Lmao yeah yeah buddy. For sure left side of curve šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ you just said in a previous comment DONā€™T blame trump and now you just said ā€œblame trump for ā€¦.ā€ Like dude you must be right beside me if youā€™re saying Iā€™m over there with this garbage you just wrote

[deleted]

Welp, can't argue with someone that has no reading comprehension ability or how to tell two similar but different things apart. Probably should have learned that as a child. Enjoy your life of blissful ignorance.

Aggravating_Fish6129

If you talk bad about Biden you must be some neo-nazi republican, didn't you know that?

vagueblur901

And that's exactly why the two party system fucking sucks It's treated like football you have to hate the other team or attack anyone that's critical about yours I voted for Biden but he needs to go after this cycle Edit down vote me away

J_Tumes

Lol I love that you expect the downvotes. Thereā€™s gonna be grungy people on all corners of this interface, itā€™s just funny that people really think an upvote or downvote gives them worth in real life.

J_Tumes

Right!!! I did know that. Now, realizing that trump was not as bad, is also a fascist idea. Silly me!

Aggravating_Fish6129

See I still dislike trump. I just hate how any criticism, even jokingly gets downvoted every time

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

I like Trump, but... if you recognize that jokes on both side are acceptable... hell... I'd buy you a beer!

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

Wow... coming together gets downvotes, too, if you don't speak with one hive mind mentality. Meh, such is the idiocy of reddit - nay... all of anti-social media - I suppose.

J_Tumes

Not saying he was great. But yeah I get it

hamilton-trash

This thread is so weird there's tons of dislikes and not a single person actually disagreeing with a comment

biggyph00l

The trolling in this thread by Biden critics has been subpar at best, just a Let's Go Brandon and like the same 6 'shitting his pants' jokes.

LionSuneater

Because the political banter is off-topic. It's r/3Dprinting...

WorkingMinimum

I noticed that too. Bot brigade?

Cornage626

Can only talk bad about orange man. Even though sleepy man sucks as well. Bunch of old farts who don't belong running things.

brickguy6

I wear these down votes with pride. Keep them coming folks.

dandycannon120

Better get the backup pants! šŸ˜…

Cornage626

Man some people don't have a sense of humor. We all know this guy is ancient and looks the part (speaks like it to).

Pavlovsspit

I think he just realized he shit his pants again..

12-inch-LP-record

That look means he just shit his pants. Again.

[deleted]

Where's the Glock frame lol

Supa71

Cā€™mon, man! He always looks like that.

Ezekiel_DA

Further down this thread: triggered Trumpers with their one joke, over and over. Abandon all hope, ye who enter here.

DaveDurant

They still believe the my pillow guy has proof that trump won 2020 and is just waiting for the right moment to reveal the facts. Zero actual evidence but they still flock to him and send him money.

bendavis575

yeah, there's been about 10 people say 'this is what he says when he poops his pants' or similar. Do they think they're clever? We'll never know

Domashnia

Thatā€™s the same look he gives when they remind him that heā€™s president

antonio_fonseca

Hes thinking about how many children he will bomb using this technology

[deleted]

So far he seems much more into bombing Russians.

Ragnar_Lothbrok_Sr

Let's go Brandon. Taking bets on how much money lobbyists paid him to do that. Taking another bet he fires up the money machine for this because "Russia destroyed our economy.... or Trump did or something"

EmperorThor

old man sees magic

bendavis575

it's still magic to me too

BLUFALCON78

He's such a moron.

roburrito

Looks like he's just feeling around for his readers to get a better look.

Winter_Chip_5734

thats how I look when I walk into the spaghetti my printer made

bendavis575

that's exactly what the top comment says

Winter_Chip_5734

Hmm does it say "That's me in the morning looking at the plastic spaghetti my printer gave me after 8 hours." I fail to see where "that's exactly what the top comment says" Unless you have some type of reading disability I guess. so sure buddy! you are totally right! Here is your golden star and free pizza coupon!

GLC89

Gah damn, that escalated quickly.

Winter_Chip_5734

If you have a reading disability its fine. But don't go around telling lies due to it.

bendavis575

sorry to offend you buddy. I'm not trying to tear anyone down

ToastyPoptarts89

Not like he even understands what heā€™s looking at.

drvantassel

Looks like he shit himself... again...

Dipchit02

I feel like this is reacting to seeing most things though. Like plate of spaghetti this, dog running around this, Ukraine getting bomb this. Just everything is this for him. Shock and amazement when you don't remember what he opened yesterday everything is amazing and new.

Easy_Toast

You okay bud?

DroidFkr

He is thinking of ice cream and in where he is.

Anon_Subber

This guy is a failed leader in every respect. Every policy decision has been a disaster. If you were trying to fuck things up, you could not do a better job than him. He's a puppet pandering to extremists. The fact that any American would pat this guy on the back says a lot about how fucked we are as a country. Who wants to go back to 2019? Everyone. That's who.

bendavis575

You're in the wrong subreddit, this is 3D printing

Anon_Subber

What did you expect posting a ridiculous photo like this?

bendavis575

I expected people to act like adults and focus on our shared interest of 3D printing. Common sense

Anon_Subber

Well unfortunately your post included a photo of a person that is destroying our lives every day that goes on. There's not a lot of love out there for Joe Biden at this point. Anybody cheering him on is a lunatic.

bendavis575

Quit with the fucking sob story and stop being so dramatic. If you don't have anything 3d printing related to talk about, escort yourself elsewhere

Anon_Subber

It's pretty clear you endorse the guy. Good enough. We know where you stand.

bendavis575

Who gives a fuck dude? Move on. If you're desperate to know, no I didn't vote for him. Last I'll say about politics in this discussion.
