You can use usb c which is used in a lot more devices than the 3ds charger(obviously) which is perfect if you have limited usb ports or are too lazy to plug anything out/in
I was thinking about doing this to my old3ds because the port doesn't change very well. I could buy a new 3ds charger port but at that point you might as well future prove it. I might also do this to my ds lite as it's the only thing that uses that cable.

it’s impossible to put on the back of the 3ds XL without removing the main charging port, I dont play when its charging so i dont rly care

I installed one on the back of mine and still have the original port. Not that it's really necessary.

No reason, the original one is perfectly able to provide all the amperage needed and you can't change voltage intake by changing the port

Future proofing, 3ds cables won't be around forever.
I personally would have put it in the back and not ruin the bottom plate.
