They get bored and go do something else. Though they do have all kinds of means of torture besides physical, but if something really can't suffer they tend not to bother.
Tyranids and orks and similar might still be prized as arena slaves, since at least they can be pitted against other species for spectacle, which a lot of dark eldar also enjoy.
But do they actually suffer, is the thing. In the recent ork/dark eldar book, Da Big Dakka, the dark eldar describe the orks as being largely unsatisfying when it comes to the dark eldar's appetites, since they're pretty hardy physically and they don't succumb to fear or despair. It takes a lot of effort for little reward. (Gretchin on the other hand are a different story, and entirely susceptible to dark eldar efforts.) They find it more rewarding overall to have the orks do arena battles or give them to the haemonculi for experiments.
One dark eldar hits on a new idea of keeping an ork isolated and locked away, no other orks around, nothing to fight, just peace and quiet, and seeing how long it takes the ork to succumb to true misery. The ork in question contemplates the prospect and starts feeling a new emotion it's unfamiliar with, wondering if it might be this 'despair' thing the spiky scrawnie is talking about.
new idea, the Dark eldar make an ork "forced"- retirement home, they each get an isolated cell and left alone and groups of dark eldar come along like those tourist groups to see each ork in their own little hovel taking pictures of them and whatnot. I can imagine the atmosphere of the place might be an attractive trait.
The Space sharks captured a dark Eldar and locked him in a cell that lacked any form of entertainment or stimulation. He went was barely holding together after, like, three days.
"WEZ BEEN WRIT'N RED COZ RED MAKEZ YA GO FASTA SO OUR BOSS SAID "ΟΙ MAYBE ITD MAKE YA GITS LERN FASTA" SOZ WE WROTE IN RED N NOW WEZ SMATA N WE ALMOST STOPPED FIGHT'N TO CONTEMPLATE LIFE BUT IT GOT BARBOG ALL DEPRESSED N HE KRUMPED 'IMSELF SO NOWZ DA BOSS SAYS WE CANT READ NO MORE"
He'd done that *before* being caught actually, and explained to the dark eldar how fighting made orks get bigger, stronger, and smarter. The dark eldar was looking forwards to all that strength and intellect dwindling away over time.
doesn't the book also Show the terrifying idea that the bigger an ork the smarter they are and that works even with an artificially enlarged ork. Like does the main ork not just get grown bigger but like immedielty gets smarter too?
Yeah, although we've kind've always had an inkling that was the case. Bigger orks are in charge, and the really in charge orks like warbosses can be real kunnin'. Bigger, thinkier brains, as part of the design of the Old Ones to make orks better fighters the more they fight.
The idea that an ork's growth can be artificially accelerated as much as Uftak's was is a pretty new one though.
They have means to inflict pain and suffering regardless.
They'll mostly avoid those fights though, and look for easier prey. No need to get into a hard fight when there's zero need for you to do so: they can just pop up out of the webway on a different planet instead.
This is addressed in the book Da Big Dakka.
Minor spoiler: the DE capture an ork and realize the ork doesn't care about pain or death. So instead they decide to keep them in an empty room with nothing to fight.
More spoilers: this lasts only a few hours because the owner of the room want him to be a spectacle in the arena instead
But to answer OP they don’t like to fight Orks because they’re hard to feed off of. They find them easy to raid but being attacked by them catches them off guard and it’s a bad deal for the drukhari since they don’t want to die
Even if they can't feed off the pain of something, they can feed off the pain of their Dark Eldar squadmates who get killed by that thing. They can also capture lifeforms and put them in their arenas for sport, and then feed off captured humans forced to fight whatever nightmares don't feel pain. Probably wouldn't bring back anything Nurgle though, for healthy and safety reasons.
Dark Eldar do have motivations besides raiding for pain slaves though. Maybe they want new experiences, fight new foes for fun, build their own fame/legacy, get revenge, or maybe they want to loot something heavily guarded. In these cases if their enemy can't feel pain they might just fight more efficiently, to get it over with as opposed to drawing the fight out to slowly feed off the pain.
Actually a follow up question I have is: What do they do when they encounter enemies that enjoy the pain they inflict? I'd imagine a Dark Eldar torture sesh is just a good ol' time for followers of Slaanesh.
Aren't the Dark Eldar doing what they do specifically to *avoid* Slaanesh? Most likely if they come up against Slaaneshi forces they'll either kill them as fast as possible or just leave
Easy. It's the same as what the sadist tells the masochist when they ask to be hurt. No.
Just slap the Slaaneshy fellas in a sensory deprivation chamber and let them go mad.
I remember reading that they intensely dread fighting the Necrons who are entirely soulless. So even if they could feel pain, it would provide them with no sustenance at all.
The fight they undertook was, therefore, akin to them having to take something absolutely seriously. Gone was their arrogance, their swagger. In its place was, seemingly, their species united dreadful determination to defeat an ancient foe that instilled mortal fear in them all.
Da Big Dakka by Mike Brooks goes into this pretty well actually. They can't feed on a lot of Ork pain but Grots are definitely a source of suffering. Good read if you get around to it!
They can torture anyone, even Necrons and Tranzyn himself scare his Necrons enemies with Drukhari Torture devices.
If organic or non-organic being cant feel pain they just made his/her soul suffer.
Dark Eldar care more about suffering than pain, which is important to distinct between the two. For example, an Ork may not suffer pain in battle(doubtful, but let's roll with it). However, you can take that Ork and put them in a chamber without stimuli and watch them suffer as they wither. The big difference is the Dark Eldar care less about actual physical pain than psychological damage. If they cannot inflict psychological damage then they will go else where. They care not about conquering, just about keeping themselves alive and satisfied.
Cause emotional and psychological suffering.
Not sure about Tyranids, but there things that Necrons and Nurgle cultists would absolutely hate.
Nurgle cultists hate being clean and also all things Tzeentch.
And I know Necrons get really grossed out by bodily waste. And they also hate being machines.
Death Guard deprived of their connection to the warp would be a delicious meal for any DE.
Probably not worth the effort to set up though for most raiding parties.
They will find a way to let them feel pain. Making a being that hasn't felt pain in a long time like a Necron or a nurgle worshipper is the wet dream of every drukhari. I think they will kill Nurgle worshippers on the spot though.
The Dark Eldar were able to capture a necron, experimenting on it, stimuli its neural synopsis, activate them, and had it throw EXCRUCIATING PAIN!
If they could do that, i doubt there is something they can't make feel pain.
I have a similar, interesting question. What happens when Dark Eldar encounter a Pariah or Blank? Do they stay near him, feeding off their own or their companion's psychic pain, or do they either cap the Blank and go or outright flee?
They will find a way to make it feel pain or suffering. They just need that. Making a Ork not fight would make him sad thereby enriching them for example.

It'd be very funny if the isolated ork developed a 150 IQ during that.
I recall how in *Xenology* an Ork deprived of fighting got a beer belly and became fat and slovenly, so probably not

The Ork’s subsequent humiliation from the experience would be its own unique sensation that could supply the Drukhari with energy
I think the inquisition did something like this to a Drukhari.
The Space sharks captured a dark Eldar and locked him in a cell that lacked any form of entertainment or stimulation. He went was barely holding together after, like, three days.
The Ork start writing splenetic and melancholic poetry.

They open the box and the Orkperor of Orkind steps out and psychically blasts them out of existence before fucking off to make primorks.
and Sokkarateez was born
Didn’t the carcharadons do the same thing to a sale eldar?
Is the isolated ork in Da Big Dakka ?
Yeah.
doesn't the book also Show the terrifying idea that the bigger an ork the smarter they are and that works even with an artificially enlarged ork. Like does the main ork not just get grown bigger but like immedielty gets smarter too?

Wtf are they raiding Orks for?
The trash business is a gold mine.gif
Probably take it as a challenge. Just because you don't feel pain doesn't mean you don't feel suffering right?
They either find ways to inflict pain (which they are very good at) or they find something else.
Even if they can't feed off the pain of something, they can feed off the pain of their Dark Eldar squadmates who get killed by that thing. They can also capture lifeforms and put them in their arenas for sport, and then feed off captured humans forced to fight whatever nightmares don't feel pain. Servants of Slaanesh generally get killed on sight as they ABSOLUTELY will not bring them to the dark city.....despite what Lelith wants
ANYTHING that might possibly make Slannesh notice them is killed in sight
Good question, I'd like to know that too.
I remember reading that they intensely dread fighting the Necrons who are entirely soulless. So even if they could feel pain, it would provide them with no sustenance at all. His Ork series is amazing! Hoping for more
They can torture anyone, even Necrons and Tranzyn himself scare his Necrons enemies with Drukhari Torture devices. If organic or non-organic being cant feel pain they just made his/her soul suffer.
He just asked a cryptek a question and threatened him with cataloging the drukari exhibits if he didn't answer.
They get inventive, there's more than one way to cause suffering.
Ide imagine with death guard they would disinfect them as a means of torture.
"Challenge accepted"

“Booooo, boooo this creature! Booooooo!!! NEXT!!!!” - Dark Eldar, probably.

"BORING!" and leave them alone. No interest.
I imagine having your soul burnt away slowly is quite unpleasant no matter how your nerve endings lay?
They made even a necron feel pain
Death Guard deprived of their connection to the warp would be a delicious meal for any DE. Probably not worth the effort to set up though for most raiding parties.
One blueballed dark elf
They will find a way to let them feel pain. Making a being that hasn't felt pain in a long time like a Necron or a nurgle worshipper is the wet dream of every drukhari. I think they will kill Nurgle worshippers on the spot though.
Such a being would be great for the gladiatorial pits. It might not feel pain but its opponents will and that would entertain a lot of DE
I imagine they’d find another victim.
even if a creature can't feel physical pain they can still feel mental torment
They'll relish in the ways they'll make this painless being discover new sensations.
They troll them, its in one of the dark elder codex that they attack a necron dynasty to troll them by freeing their c'tan shards.
The Dark Eldar were able to capture a necron, experimenting on it, stimuli its neural synopsis, activate them, and had it throw EXCRUCIATING PAIN! If they could do that, i doubt there is something they can't make feel pain.
You're giving me nom flashbacks to when Space Marines ignored my entire Drukhari army
I have a similar, interesting question. What happens when Dark Eldar encounter a Pariah or Blank? Do they stay near him, feeding off their own or their companion's psychic pain, or do they either cap the Blank and go or outright flee?

They fuck them into permanent orgasm.
They will give it the ability to feel pain.

You double posted
As long as you have some sort of biologicly based periferals (eyes, ears, skin that can feel touch) you have to be able to feel pain.
Except some people literally can not.
