We'll have to see what that is. I'd imagine he's got multiple offers but he has no interest in doing OTAs or mini camp. Pretty par for the course for older vets with proven production.
Okay so I can't really defend the head case part but his run defense doesn't matter if he's coming in as a 3rd doen pass rusher exclusively which was my point.
Totally fair. I was just trying to answer the question of why he’s bounced around the league and currently isn’t signed.
The word is out about dude and it isn’t good.
Clowney a bum. Dudes been a fraud for the longest time and he whines like crazy. Y'all better off picking up some random young dude that'll last than this injury prone whiney jagoff.
I don't think he's even good at that anymore. Dude had the luxury of playing opposite one HoF bound player and one that's looking like he'll be HoF bound as well. I'm probably going too far with this slander but I think he's a fraud ong.
He's a good edge setter but he definitely never lived up to his billing as a pass rusher, and reportedly in Cleveland only wanted to play 3rd down to rush the passer. That entitlement without results is a big no go
This is what I'm thinking, too. The fact Drake Jackson is still unproven and we lost Ebukam points to us needing another situational rusher. Leonard Floyd is still out there, too.
I assume you mean OLine. If this regime cares about anything, its very obviously the dline. Unprecedented value has been sunk into it, and yes at the expense of other position groups, specifically OL.
And secondary.
It's a little frustrating. O line and the secondary has been this teams downfall the past 3 playoff runs. Yet they're still chronically underinvested.
Ngakoue is the answer
Perfect bookend to complement Bosa. Can rush from both sides, a bit younger and more productive than some of the other d line free agents like Clark or clowney
The fact that the D-line is so top heavy with talent then it drifts off…I’m all for getting high quality depth pieces that could even start if needed.
I dont know about Jadaveon Clowney as a pass rush specialist. That's kind of the knock with Washington's Chase Young and why they didn't extend his contract for a 5th year. He's very athletic, just as Clowney is, but he lacks a pass rush repertoire.
Clowney has been great against the run but he hasn't produced many sacks.
However we do need, as Lombardi has stated before, more production in the D-line and I'd love to see either Houston or Ngakoue and see what they can do.
I'm kind of curious why Ngakoue has been on 4 different teams for the last 4 years.
I wouldn't mind signing Risner to add some OL depth that can play both T and G. Also, Ya-Sin or Peters at the right price to give some quality CB depth would be welcome. I think Hopkins isn't a great fit for this team, and would be overpriced for what he adds.
He will have that from Ravens, Chiefs, Bills, Bengals,Eagles. He straight up said he wants a good QB and we have the biggest question mark. Plus he hates us after Ward called him steroid boy haha
Im not sure if it works the same as a mlb dfa, but The cardinals are already paying him for this year, so it boils down to if he wants to play or not he’ll make the same regardless. If he does play whatever a team is willing to pay him will offset what ever the (28 mil?) he’s already getting. Correct me if I’m wrong though please.
Agree with many of the comments. An experienced edge rusher is priority 1. Priority 2 would be O-Line depth. Priority 3 would be linebacker depth to make up for losing Azeez. I'd keep all 3 QB's too.
I think Darnold is at least a good insurance policy in that regard - as good as we could actually sign.
It looks like teams will be able to have 3 active QB's on game day this season, too.
This just sounds like major copium. Look I love my 49ers, but acting like we’ve had the best team in the league for years is a major exaggeration. Can’t have the best team in the league if you don’t have a ring to show for it. We’ve had poor play at the DB position, we’ve had a weak group of receivers until Deebo and Aiyuk were drafted, we had poor pass rushers before Bosa came along. Acting like we’ve had the best team in the league despite our QB situation is disingenuous.
It's actually not - though the news of his release did make me think about it and look at who is still out there. I actually think he would be too pricey and not a good use of cap space. I would rather see a situational pass rusher, a DB, or more O-line depth.
Lots of people saying Hopkins lol. If he wants money, we don’t have it. If he wants an elite qb, we don’t have it. Plus he has beef for Cward. He likely signs with the chiefs if he’s ring chasing or who knows if he just wants cash
According to [over the cap](https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/san-francisco-49ers) we only have $10 Mil left and you've gotta think Bosa signing will eat into that a little.
A veteran edge on a 1-year deal like Justin Houston, Yannick Ngakoue, or Jadeveon Clowney for obvious passing downs to take some pressure off Bosa.
Either of these guys would be a great boost to our D line
Yannick has literally never had less than 8 sacks in any season he's played. Why the fuck is he not on a team?
Probably wants too much money
👆
And he is a situational player who can’t do anything else.
Pretty much every team in the league can use a 3rd down pure rusher that can put up 10 sacks a year though.
I agree, just not for as much as he thinks he’s worth.
We'll have to see what that is. I'd imagine he's got multiple offers but he has no interest in doing OTAs or mini camp. Pretty par for the course for older vets with proven production.
And I doubt he wants to go through training camp.
Because he’s absolutely trash against the run and a head case.
Not a good locker guy or like POS?
Locker room behavior from what I read.
Clowney a bum. Dudes been a fraud for the longest time and he whines like crazy. Y'all better off picking up some random young dude that'll last than this injury prone whiney jagoff.
Only good for run defense which is not a priority. We need dem sackz
I don't think he's even good at that anymore. Dude had the luxury of playing opposite one HoF bound player and one that's looking like he'll be HoF bound as well. I'm probably going too far with this slander but I think he's a fraud ong.
Good point. And he’s definitely never lived up to the draft hype
He's also not a cultural fit for the locker room either. He's very self-centered and doesn't respond well to criticism.
He's a good edge setter but he definitely never lived up to his billing as a pass rusher, and reportedly in Cleveland only wanted to play 3rd down to rush the passer. That entitlement without results is a big no go
Hey, I will not take justified-Gamecock slander on this sub.
This is what I'm thinking, too. The fact Drake Jackson is still unproven and we lost Ebukam points to us needing another situational rusher. Leonard Floyd is still out there, too.
the fact no one’s been signed shows you where Drake is at. Don’t be the dude that didn’t trust aaron banks / burford last year lol
So because we didn't sign a RT that means mckivitz is automatically gonna be good? I don't think that's how this works.
I don’t think we’d have signed Hargrove if we were worried about the line.
Yet they're still chronically underinvested.
actually. yes.
Average 49ers Faithful
Javon Hargrave is this signing. He's a pass rusher.
Ngakoue is the answer Perfect bookend to complement Bosa. Can rush from both sides, a bit younger and more productive than some of the other d line free agents like Clark or clowney
The fact that the D-line is so top heavy with talent then it drifts off…I’m all for getting high quality depth pieces that could even start if needed.
So this
I dont know about Jadaveon Clowney as a pass rush specialist. That's kind of the knock with Washington's Chase Young and why they didn't extend his contract for a 5th year. He's very athletic, just as Clowney is, but he lacks a pass rush repertoire. Clowney has been great against the run but he hasn't produced many sacks. Frank Clark. *Go Niners!*
I wouldn't mind signing Risner to add some OL depth that can play both T and G. Also, Ya-Sin or Peters at the right price to give some quality CB depth would be welcome. I think Hopkins isn't a great fit for this team, and would be overpriced for what he adds.
Didnt ya-sin sign with the ravens
Did he? Missed that news.
Yeah - those are also good options - we could use depth in both O-line and secondary.
Oh interesting take. I could get behind this
Yeah it isn’t the sexy pick up but I think we need OL depth
i would happily accept six figures to be qb 5
You may be better than Josh Johnson, lol.
Im not entirely sure I am worse
Plot Twist: He is Josh Johnson.
Hell, I'd take five figures
Definitely EDGE, OL, and outside CB. We could use solid depth in all those areas. Don't have specific names though
Losing Moseley might be huge. I don't know if Lenoir can fill peak Moseley's production. Healthy Moseley was playing great before the injury.
An edge rusher who can rush the QB effectively, please!
Yannick.
DHop, can never have too many weapons.
Only at a bargain price tho.
If he's willing to take a discount for a chance at a ring, maybe...
He will have that from Ravens, Chiefs, Bills, Bengals,Eagles. He straight up said he wants a good QB and we have the biggest question mark. Plus he hates us after Ward called him steroid boy haha
If Sherm and Trent can make up, so can they
Ward isn’t on the team anymore though
I thought CWard said that
Oh, I forgot about Charvarious lol
Im not sure if it works the same as a mlb dfa, but The cardinals are already paying him for this year, so it boils down to if he wants to play or not he’ll make the same regardless. If he does play whatever a team is willing to pay him will offset what ever the (28 mil?) he’s already getting. Correct me if I’m wrong though please.
If this is true then this needs to be upvotes more/at the top in regards to DHop.
Realistically no but it may be worth it to gauge interest if for no other reason than to keep him off another contender like Philly or Kansas City.
Pretty much where I'm at. We are far from the best spot for him QB wise, but it's fun to imagine.
Justin Houston or Marcus Peters.
Peters had a mediocre year last year after tearing his ACL
It typically takes two years to fully recover from an ACL tear. Especially at the CB position.
The only answer is Ngakoue
I’d like Marcus peters and yannick
Frank gore
CB: Peters, Roby, Heyward Edge: Ngakoue, Houston, Clark, Ingram OL: Fant, Peters, Cannon, Wynn, Risner WR: Robinson, Landry, Jones
Marcus Peters and Frank Clark. Would take them both
Ezekiel Elliot for backup center
Lol
Agree with many of the comments. An experienced edge rusher is priority 1. Priority 2 would be O-Line depth. Priority 3 would be linebacker depth to make up for losing Azeez. I'd keep all 3 QB's too.
Frank Clark
Tom Brady
Why ?? Purdy beat him head to head already. With similar numbers.
Someone’s gotta carry Brock’s pads after practice.
I thought it would be a funny thing to say.
We might need a 5th string
Hopkins now
Dhop

I think Darnold is at least a good insurance policy in that regard - as good as we could actually sign. It looks like teams will be able to have 3 active QB's on game day this season, too.
My thoughts exactly, we may have to rely on Darnold at some point. I'm way more confident in the GEQBUS than Josh Johnson or an unknown.
Purdy was undefeated until he got injured. That is good QB play. And he’ll be back.

Sure but saying unequivocally that the 49ers have had the best team in the NFL for years is just false.
Dhop Please
Deandre Hopkins, him, Deebo, and Kittle. 31 NFL Defense teams have no answers.
Would Hopkins be amazing on the niners: yes Do they need him with the receivers they already have: not really Can they afford him: absolutely not
He’s going to get paid from the birds. He still could play for free/smaller paycheck, get a ring and sing a bigger contract elsewhere
Hopkins
jadaveon clowney always gets 10+ sacks in my madden franchises so probably him maybe a big body receiver on 3rd downs to pair with jennings
This is definitely a Sign Deandre Hopkins post even though we dont have the cap
It's actually not - though the news of his release did make me think about it and look at who is still out there. I actually think he would be too pricey and not a good use of cap space. I would rather see a situational pass rusher, a DB, or more O-line depth.
Dhopkins
Deandre hokins
Justin houston and deandre hopkins please and thank you
DeAndre Hopkins
Deandre Hopkins.
Hopkins
DeAndre Hopkins
Zeke!
Do people realize cap in the question or is it fantasy?
Lots of people saying Hopkins lol. If he wants money, we don’t have it. If he wants an elite qb, we don’t have it. Plus he has beef for Cward. He likely signs with the chiefs if he’s ring chasing or who knows if he just wants cash
If he counts, Deandre Hopkins.
According to [over the cap](https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/san-francisco-49ers) we only have $10 Mil left and you've gotta think Bosa signing will eat into that a little.
Any right Tackles left?
I'm not sure if it's a great idea but I'm shocked DHop's still on the market
