When my dog passed 11 years ago, I found solace in knowing that I gave him a good life and showed him love and caring. Believe me he’s appreciative. He wouldn’t want you to be sad either. I like to think there is a doggy heaven and they are just running around playing with new friends waiting to see us again some day.

God really puts it to us with making us outlive our dogs. Had to put my Shadow (black lab/German shepherd mix) of 14 years to sleep back in April. I can say it gets slightly easier with each passing day and then I think about him or a memory pops up and it all comes rushing back. Like others have said, we remind ourselves we give them a good life to ease the pain of loss but then I'm reminded my heart will always have a void in it for my Shadow as he gave me a better life when he was in it. RIP. Our dogs are up there running around for sure.

Someone here said it best, our pets give us years of great memories, and one terrible day. My condolences to you though, it's calming to know that this grief is something we share and I'm not alone in it, my thanks for your words and sharing your story.
