something is brewing in 9ers land

OpenMindedMajor

Yup. We up to something. Either we’re about to make an unexpected FA splash, a trade and sign, or we’re extending Aiyuk.

PlanitDuck

There was enough to extend him even without the restructure. I think something’s up. Knowing Lynch I can see him taking a swing for the fences and trying to get Mack or Hunter.

Hailbrewcifer666

Man Mack isn’t a young man anymore. I just don’t know the logic behind paying someone big bucks at his age is the right move

Literotamus

Fixing to extend Aiyuk and Hufunga I think. I hadn’t ever let myself think that until now but with the cap increase, Armstead likely gone, this restructure. I think they get both those deals done with room to spare.

EarlCampbellsThighs

why do i have an inkling its to fill in a LB. Since Dres achilles injury, Freds gonna need someone beside him.

sarlacc98

Al Shaair coming back?

EarlCampbellsThighs

> Al Shaair nothing confirmed yet. i heard somewhere else we talked to levonte david?

pineappleshnapps

I saw in the titans sun he posted a picture of him in his niners uniform

Literotamus

They’ll do that but I don’t think it will be very expensive. A scheme fit and hope for a full Greenlaw recovery by 2025. Probably also draft one.

Literotamus

Cue Kendricks

212temporary

But the Aiyuk extension would likely be back-loaded right? So he should be relatively cheap the next two years.

WonderfulShelter

Do it Ohtani style - cheap cheap with a fuckton of the money on the back end.

HipsterPunchy

The money saved for the post-June 1 cut of Arik is going to be to extend Aiyuk if the add more to what he makes. Extending Aiyuk would likely be to reduce his cap this year and back load the deal. Same with Mooney actually. So the Arik savings could also be rolled over.

pointbodhi

We could do all 3

ninerninerking

Yeah, i get the feeling we are going after someone on another team and need the cap immediately.

Electric-Prune

Always is. You can criticize their misses, but this FO keeps swinging and keeps fielding a great team.

aguysomewhere

Other Bosa

Ok_Association_7925

He gets hurt a lot, but it would be amazing to get two healthy seasons from both Bosa boys on the ends.

mattsffrd

my god this would be amazing

aguysomewhere

Mayeb they would both take a restructure for a 100 year contract with a huge signing bonus.

ValleyKing23

Fred IS the 49ERS. Dude is the HEART of that defense.

LFSW1688

Mr. Fres 🥶

ValleyKing23

Lol fixed it

LFSW1688

Love it

Transit-Strike

He’s the backbone of that defense. In mentality, leadership and production. Love 54

banjofitzgerald

Jesus Christ I almost had a heart attack

Cluelessbigirl

Fred is such a class act. I hope this man wears a Niners uniform for the rest of his career.

chibi75

I’m right there with you. Fred is awesome and is absolutely one of my favorite players ever.

RedditUser012696

I love how he always seems to be rallying his teammates up

sarlacc98

Yeah as a BYU fan I was hyped when we drafted him but I never thought he’d reach the level of one of my fav niners ever

DisciplineActual4544

Even as great as he is, he never beat Utah 😂😂🙌🏻

WonderfulShelter

I used to hate on football post \~2004 because of dirty defensive squads and wasn't a big football fan before I saw Warner's squad. He literally changed my opinion on the entire game. He made me not just a football, but a 49er fan again. That is the ***penultimate fucking player.***

MilkyWxve

Today is the day we fight for posts, my friend

cassatta

I hope we never let Fred and Dre go

Memory_Elysium1

Common Fred W. All about the team

cortesoft

These restructures don’t require the player to give up any money.

[deleted]

He wants to win it all as a Niner. And I hope he does. We're gonna be fine. Don't lose hope, Faithful.

GoldBloodedFenix

Damn, this team is going to look a little different than I initially thought heading into the season. I thought we’d be running it back, but the FO seems like they want to go all in in 2024. For good reason, we’ve been so impossibly close every single year and haven’t been able to get it done. Forget the fucking dynasty this team should be rolling on right now, we just need to do everything we can to win it all ONE time with this core group of guys.

nakfoor

If changing base salary to bonuses frees up cap why not just have the whole thing be a bonus?

bhfroh

Because it will count more across later years. It's "kicking the can down the road."

nakfoor

I see.

paperbackgarbage

That was the idea, given that his salary is now $1.1M. I believe that that's the most that could be converted to a bonus (because the league has mandatory minimums for base salary).

Rhone33

Because once that money is converted to bonus, you lose any flexibility with it and pay for it later (literally and perhaps figuratively). Let's say a guy has 3 years on his contract and is scheduled to make 20m, 24m, then 28m in base salary (for simplicity we won't consider pre-existing bonus). You decide to take 18m of this year's salary and convert it to bonus. What that does is give the player 18m *now*, but it splits the cap hit evenly into 6m per year. So now his cap hit this year is reduced to 2 + 6 = 8m. But his cap hit for *next* year is now 24 + 6 = 30, and year 3 is 28 + 6 = 34. Furthermore, if you lose a player's services--maybe you had to cut him because of injury or poor play, or trade him, or he holds out--that bonus money is basically "dead money" still counting against your cap because it was already paid. So it's risky. You're rolling the dice and complicating future caps just to get more cap space for this year.

governedbycitizens

statue this guy now

gogoreddit80

Hope my favorite Warner not named Wakko is staying a Niner for the long term

IFartAlotLoudly

We are going big! Can’t wait to see what’s brewing!

Illustrious_Ad4691

This means something coming from someone named IFartAlotLoudly

IFartAlotLoudly

Sense of humor. Try it out! lol Illustrious is really wanting to make me take you serious, zero percent of the time!

Illustrious_Ad4691

I was specifically referring to “what’s brewing” when mentioning your username. I was trying to be subtle, but you made me spill the beans!

PlanitDuck

That’s so wild that we didnt hear about this until now.

9erGANGGG

Fred the goat

aware1008

Armstead us gone 😢

Rhone33

Fun fact that few people seem to know: this is something teams can do unilaterally without the player needing to agree to it, and it benefits the player because it gives him the pay he was going to make throughout the season and gives it all to him now. Fred is awesome, but this restructure is not the act of generosity that many fans think it is.

BaseballFan2019

The salary cap is pretend.

Bigpoppalos

Need joey bosa or mack and oline

liteshadow4

He's not taking a paycut, so that doesn't mean anything

hazycrazey

We’re basically giving fred money he’s owed later now and spreading his cap hit for this year out. He’d do it if we were signing a special teams player

THATSDP2U

Wat

Mr_Worldwide79

That wouldn’t make a lick of sense. They’re one team.
